chapter 6

My training began the next day, when most of the members had returned from their missions and made their way back to the hideout. I think Shigaraki told everyone to keep a watchful eye on me and not to inform me of any missions or escapades.

Though they'd accepted me as a member of the League of Villains, I could tell no one trusted me with that type of information. Not yet.

I knew I had to prove myself so that I could really become one of them. In all honesty, I hadn't known how I was gonna do that quite yet, but strength training seemed like a good start.

When Kurogiri had announced that he was going to begin my training today, everyone had wanted to tag along as well. Dabi had said he had "things" to take care of and that he couldn't come though. The news disappointed me a bit... I wanted to see what his flames could really do.

From what I've gathered so far, Mr. Compress and Spinner were their own little friend group, with Magne occasionally associated; Toga and Twice were friendly with everyone; and Dabi and Shigaraki are mostly loners.

All the latter does is go into the back room with his small TV all day, and I don't think I even wanna know what Dabi does with his time. But Shigaraki had come out to train with us; after days of trying to guess what his quirk must be, I'm excited to see what it finally is!

Kurogiri had warped all of us to a huge warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Surrounding us for miles and miles were abandoned streets and roads, rare patches of grass between the desert-like climate. We must be really far away from Kamino Ward.

The warehouse might've looked big and plain on the outside, but it was even huger on the inside. Every space of the dirty white marble was sectioned off, huge rollercoaster-like structures in each segment. It looked like it was specially built to cater to each individual's needs and weaknesses.

Some structures had moving targets, others centered around fighting in the dark, others requiring flexibility and such. The sight was so overwhelming and unbelievably great that it filled me up with pure elation-- my hands twitched, yearning for a notebook to write in.

"Let's have fun training, Izuku!" said Toga.

"Yeah and we can get ramen after!-- Ramen is shit!" Twice cheered.

While everyone went to separate corners of the warehouse, Kurogiri had led me to my own little space. Compared to everyone else's, mine was kinda sad. It was only a simple boxing ring with punching bags and weights covering every corner. Even so, it's never excited me more.

This is where it starts. This is where I'll train and grow stronger so I can have the power Mom always wished for me; I'll become a person no one will mess with, someone who can deconstruct the Hero society from the inside out. I'll be the one to defeat All Might.

With solid determination and excitement coursing through my veins, I grab onto the rough red ropes and step onto the black platform. I try not to gush too much at the whole place, but taking a step back to look at it, I think I was unsuccessful.

Everyone had begun their training, the warehouse seemingly shaking from the raw power of the quirks being used. Slashes from knives and swords of all kinds filled the space, ductile bodies flying skillfully through the air, the force of magnetism pulling my face in and out.

The oxygen in the warehouse was charged with tenacity and strength, I can practically feel the zapping electricity on my skin.

I eagerly looked towards everyone's corner, anxious to write all my discoveries in my notebook. The first one I located was Toga's space. She was given a large section of the warehouse, moving torso targets surrounding her as they closed in, sharp knives jutting in and out of them.

The weapons were edged enough to cut and kill, but Toga looked absolutely thrilled if nothing else. She still wore her usual schoolgirl uniform, but had donned a piped black mask with the image of a predatory grin, a few bottles, and knives of her own.

Madly blushing with pure excitement like always, she lithely jumps onto the heads of the targets, stabbing each of them with equal ferocity and thrusting needles into their necks. I committed the way she moved to memory.

She went from the next target to the next, switching to running on the wall to round back to one she missed. She'd finished in a matter of minutes and hadn't even broken a sweat.

It seemed to be the same with Twice, who was now artfully taking out the moving targets with... Toga? But I thought she--

I looked back to her corner and sure enough, Toga was there, stretching comfortably.

Realization dawned on me-- now I get it! His quirk must be related to duplication of some sort, that's why he's called Twice. I wonder if his quirk includes objects, or is it only people? Will it work as long as he sees the person? Or can he only do it with people he's familiar with? Even so... he's powerful enough to take down entire countries...

I switched my focus to Spinner in another corner, who was having no problem decapitating the targets' heads before they could get within five feet of him. He was focused, keeping his eyes on his mark as he climbed up the wall. Jumping off once he got a good angle, he stabbed the last target with ease.

So I was right; he must have a lizard-like quirk. And that intimidating sword of his must be a support item, since there's not much attacking you could do with just being able to climb up walls. I make a mental note to remedy that for him.

Mr. Compress had finished his own training in no time at all, spinning around each of the battle drones adeptly, similar to that of a dancer. With his graceful and quick hand movements, he made each robot disappear, seemingly replacing it with a small blue marble. He then rolled the marble underneath a few clumped up drones and, at the opportune moment, it reverted to its original state, destroying them all together.

I've never wished to have my notebook so badly, even if it was only to write down notes on how he glided around so agilely. Being able to move around one's opponents with such ease like that would be exceedingly helpful, especially when dealing with laser-focused type quirks that require agility.

I'd imagined his quirk to be similar to what it actually was, but I can't think of how it'd be possible scientifically. Is there possibly some sort of chemical or unknown variant that could grant someone the ability to compress and decompress large objects at will? I'll have to do some extra research on that later.

Magne's targets seemed a lot more difficult than everyone else's. While everyone else had at least up to forty of them, she must've had around a hundred! And instead of just automatically moving around with protruding knives, the targets were a lot more capable, able to run on its mechanical feet and quickly dispose of anything in its sight with its built-in guns. Magne let out a long sigh and muttered, "Easy." She took out the first ninety robots before my eyes could register it.

The last ten she spent her time with, ripping out their arms and thrusting her hand into their mechanic chests. I didn't miss the satisfaction on her face, her lips curving into a wicked grin. It was satisfying to watch her do it too...Β  To take apart something, having the chance to examine it from the inside out... just seems so thrilling to me.

I look to where Shigaraki might be, excited to see his own quirk in play. But when I finally find him, he's merely leaning on a railing on the second floor, watching all of us contentedly.

"Soon you'll be able to move like that, Midoriya," Kurogiri interrupted my thoughts. "But first, we must build up your physical strength, and the only way to do that is to--" he nudged a Bob torso bag-- "train the good ol' fashioned way."

"Oh," I said, "right."

Kurogiri stood behind one of the black punching bags, holding it securely. "Go ahead, give this punch all you got."

I doubtfully looked at my fists, which I'd bandaged the other day once I'd settled into the backroom of the bar. The dried blood was still prevalent, tainting the white dressing.

Though it was only a few days ago since the rooftop, I'm never going to reach that point again. From now on, I'll be strong. I won't let down my new teammates like I did everyone else. I won't be weak, not anymore.

Clenching my right fist, I hit the punching bag, or at least I thought I did, but my hand never makes contact.

"What the..." I murmured. Kurogiri had warped my hand to the side, looking at me with a teacher-like expression.

"Your fist is in the incorrect form," he explained.

"Incorrect form... ?"

Kurogiri opened up my tightened fist with his misty hand, bringing my thumb out.

"Your thumb should be on the outside of the fist for reinforcement, otherwise you'd break it from the force of impact."

I pulled my hand out of his warp. "Break??" I sighed, "Sorry, Kurogiri, I really don't know what I'm doing..."

It was a moment before he placed a hand on my shoulder. "You needn't apologize. We're training, aren't we?" He smiled, his bright eyes gleaming kindly.Β

"R-right!" I tried to remember a fighting stance from my Hero Analysis Notes, leveling my body and grounding my feet on the black platform of the boxing ring. I held my hands closely to my chest and sent out a fist sharply at the punching bag.

The force wasn't as much as I expected and Kurogiri didn't seem to feel it, but he still smiled at me.

"Much better!" he praised. "It seems you're also familiar with the fighting stance I'd meant to teach you at a later date."

"Oh, yeah," I nervously laughed, "The heroes I used to study do it all the time."

"You used to study heroes?"

"Well, sorta. Since I didn't have a quirk, I kinda resorted to studying other heroes and fights, thinking that it'd make me stronger somehow. I know a lot about heroes, I'll know any one you name, and their quirks. I've always thought it to be pretty cool since I was a kid," I rambled on excitedly, fumbling with my fingers.

Kurogiri looked to the side, seemingly lost in thought. His eyes narrowed by a fraction before a lightbulb went off in his mind and they widened. He turned to me.

"I might know what you could specialize in, Midoriya..."
