For as long as I can remember I've been seen as a strange one. When I'd walk down the road, I would see all kinds of people start talking.
"Isn't he the Matsuzakis kid?" A woman said to another woman. "I think so. Just look at him! He's all beaten up and in rags!"
"Just shows how abusive his dad is." "Not only that but he's the spitting image of his dead wife!" "Explains the beating. Poor boy."
"I've heard his dad grabs his hands and burns them in the ashes of fire!" A guy chirped into the conversation. "Really? I've heard that his dad's made him eat dead animals!"
"Geez! I heard once that the dad always calls him by his dead wife's name!!" "And I've seen him play and talk to squirrels!!"
"That sad little kid has no friends so he plays with rodents." "Could never be my kid! He's as obedient as a dog." The guy laughed. "Yeah I guess so." The other lady laughed as they all giggled and continued.
And they're not the only one. Every other family or group talked the moment I passed. Poor boy this. Poor boy that. None of it mattered.
They all liked to talk to hide their secrets. Well this sad little kid knew everything. Whenever I brought it up, they would all just stare and mutter.
But they should've all paid attention to themselves. Maybe then that lady would've realized her fiancΓ© was gonna leave her the moment he got his hands on the family wealth.
That guy would've kept an eye on his son, who ended up executed by a gang. That lady could have prevented the fire that happened later that day.
They all laughed at me. They all pitied me but never helped out. They never helped me when I needed it the most. But it doesn't matter anymore.
Because I was the one who had the last laugh.

As Yasu ran for miles moving farther away from La Casa Lejos De Casa she recalled what her crow said to her. "Caw! There is a city in the middle of many forest. On the outside of it, you can see many different plants and trees. A little farther in there are different animals of many sizes and colors.
If you look around that area you can see neighborhoods, around five families in different places. These neighborhoods have farms and domesticated animals.
During the day they harvested and took carts of it deeper into the forests. If one was ever to get lost, all they had to do was follow one of the many rivers that led to the main river right outside the forest.
Deeper into the forest are only trees. The farther you go the colder and darker it gets. There were many boulders and trees with signs on it. Don't forget those little details. Caw! After a while, you will arrive at a city filled with lights and sounds.
There have been demon slayers who've gone and defeated many demons before but apparently, there is one they couldn't have defeated yet. He is a small demon boy who has taken control of the forest, ending people faster than other demons have. Very few of the demon slayers who survive call him a tyrant. It is your mission to find him and to defeat him. Caw!"
Yasu continued running through fields, getting farther away from civilization. "How did he even manage to remember all of that? They weren't kidding when they told me he was a bit more advanced than the other crows." She thought in her mind.
Suddenly she stopped as a huge forest greeted her. She looked around and found the main river her crow mentioned. She looked up to see the sun. "Feels weird that I'm about to slay demons during the day." She mumbled as she entered the woods.
As Yasu walked into the forest she looked around. It was bright as the sun shined through a few branches, making it seem like an enchanted forest. "Hello there!" Yasu flinched as she turned to see a young male.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." He apologized as Yasu watched, "we usually don't get visitors." She looked behind him and there were many cattle. "Oh! I see you noticed my family's cows. These little calves are about to be one year old!" he pointed as one of the cows walked towards her.
Not one word was spoken from Yasu, making the young guy look down at the ground as he slightly bit his lip. "Am I making this too awkward for her? I just spoke to her out of nowhere so obviously it's awkward." "They're adorable," the guy looked up to see Yasu pet one of them as she glanced up to him.
"Y-yeah they sure are!" He blushed as she petted the calf one last time. "I'm sorry for not talking but I need to run an errand. Is this the way to the city?" Yasu said as she glanced towards the forest.
"Oh you mean Kakureta? Well in woods like these, all you have to do is walk until you see the city light." He pointed as he held back one of the calves from following her.
"Okay. Thank you." Yasu bowed as she made her way deeper into the woods. "Hey! Uhm.. would you like to join us later for lunch?" He asked as he scratched his head. "No thank you. I'm fine," Yasu said. "Oh.."
"...but if you'd like, you can save me a bite." she smiled as she turned her head. "O-of course! I'll wait for you if you'd like!" He exclaimed as smiled. "What was your name?" Yasu stopped as she turned.
"My name is Asahi!" he shouted. "Well, Asahi. Hopefully, I'll see you on my way back. That's if I don't take a different route."
"Wait!" Asahi shouted as Yasu sprinted into the forest. "I forgot to warn you about the demons."
As she went farther in she noticed the temperature dropping and the forest getting darker. As she looked around she noticed light scratches on the tree bark. She started walking as she looked at every little thing.
She walked farther and farther until she saw the city lights glowing. "Now to find the demo-" All of a sudden, Yasu was kicked on her arm as she landed a couple of feet. When she looked up she noticed a female demon silhouette. "What are you doing here? We don't like intruders. You are not welcome here."
Yasu stood up and took out her nichirin. Her voice sounded loud yet so dead. "How about you just -!" the silhouette shouted as she launched towards Yasu. The demon throws herself as she aims for Yasu's face.
As Yasu used her sword to stop her, she kicked the demon in the stomach and dropped to the ground. She started gasping for air as Yasu was about to slash her head. "Move," she barely whispered as another demon came from the top.
Sensing the presence, Yasu jumped into the air as she saw a different demon moving side to side. His head suddenly snapped up towards Yasu and formed sharp icicles, pointing them to Yasu.
As Yasu landed on a branch, she took a deep breath. "Wisteria Breathing, Second Form: Blowing Iris Storm!" Yasu then jumped over the screeching demon, covering the demon with a storm of blowing Iris petals, slashing them three times.
Before the demon could realize what happened, his body went limp. As Yasu was about to attack the struggling demon, he let out a horrendous scream and dropped instantly.
"What the.." Yasu furrowed her brows as she examined him. He already seemed dead but she beheaded him, just to take care of that. Then the other female demon groaned in pain.
When Yasu turned to look at her she saw something on her neck. The demon grabbed onto the ground as she coughed blood. "Do it! End it! I don't want this anymore!" She screamed as something was shot behind her head. Were those acorns? Suddenly she cried in pain as her body stood up like a wooden doll.
Before the demon could move, Yasu tackled the demon as she held her back with her sword. "Who's doing this?" Yasu asked as the demon cried. "He is! That little boy is-"
Another acorn was hit on her head, causing her to scream in agony. "THE KING! HE HATES REBELS!" she screamed, jumping into the air with Yasu on her back.
Yasu then decided to let her go and kick her down to the ground, seeing a glimpse of her face in agony. This demon "king" had them all under his control. Yasu could feel her anger rise as she landed on the ground.
As the motionless body ran towards Yasu, she decided to end the woman's misery. "Wisteria Breathing, Fifth Form: Plum Blossoms Of Pure Beauty!" Yasu charged as she decapitated her.
Instead of feeling pain, she felt... nothing? As she opened her eyes, she saw the once dark and cold forest become filled with Plum Blossoms and light.
"What is this?" the demon gasped as she looked in wonder. "Is this... the sun? It's been so long," she cried as she remembered walking by the river outside the forestβa memory of her past before she became a demon.
As her head fell to the ground, she could see Yasu. "You're pretty. Thank you," the demon smiled as her head faded away.
As Yasu bowed her head, she headed to the slowly fading body and took out what was on her neck. It was an acorn. But who was able to engrave it into her with such force? Suddenly it dissolved and there was a shout.
"Aww cmon! I was just starting to have fun!" A voice claimed from the trees. As Yasu looked up, a small figure loomed out from the leaves. "Especially since you lasted longer than the other ones." He said as he threw a katana, striking the ground right next to her.
"So you're the so-called tyrant of this forest." Yasu frowned as she held her sword tighter. "Is that what people call me? No no no, I like to think of myself as the forest ruler!" He exclaimed as he threw his hands in the air. "I've known this forest more than anyone or anything that has ever set foot!"
"These forests have been my home since I was a young boy. Until one day, I was given the gift of being the eternal ruler. Now I control all my subjects and live freely with my brothers! And it seems like there's a rebel in my kingdom," he said as he grabbed some leaves and formed them into acorns.
As Yasu noticed the acorns, she darted back as soon as the acorns were shot, each one missing her. "That's it! Those must be the things that controlled the demons against their will!" Yasu thought as she climbed up to a tree.
Suddenly she was wrapped against the tree by a vine as another demon appeared quick but carefully.
"That still doesn't mean they won't come after me," Yasu muttered as she moved her hand, slowly cutting the vines.
"FinAllY. A meAl afTer A loNg tIme!" the demon said as it was getting ready to eat her. Luckily, Yasu cut the vines just enough for her to move. As the demon was face to face with her, she used her strength to kick it right on its chin-neck thing.
She then put her feet on the tree bark, pushing herself to loosen the vines. As the vines loosen, she dropped and kicked the demon down. The demon still recovering from the two kicks, she didn't hesitate and decapitated it.
"You're not like the others," the demon said as hanged upside down using his tail. "I only noticed your presence. Do you not like working with others?" Yasu gasped as she looked up. "He's known I was here the whole time?" Yasu thought as she swung her sword, almost decapitating him.
"By the way you were walking and looking, I can tell your alone. I've seen many people walk like you, especially after being abandoned by their loved ones," the demon giggled under his breath as he looked her in the eyes. Yasu gasped and frowned as she charged.
As Yasu shouted, the demon stopped her swing with his hands, slightly bleeding. "I guessed right, didn't I?" He laughed as he grabbed her sword and threw it along with her into the trees. As she hit the ground, she took deep breaths.
"Concentrate! I need to calm down before I let my emotions get the best of me." Yasu thought as she looked around. Suddenly she remembered the marked trees and boulders. But if she were to make a run for it now, she'd be caught.
Yasu started running farther into the woods as the demon followed her from above. "Come on! There's no use in running! Just surrender and become one of my playmates!" The boy yelled as he directed acorns toward her path.
"What's your name?" Yasu asked as she kept running. "Some like to call me Risu but I prefer Touji! Why do you ask?" he said, commanding some squirrels slow her down.
"Well Touji... we just met but you sure... do know how to play with someone's mental state." She said as she grabbed the squirrels and tossed them to the side.
"Of course. I've always been able to drive someone to question what they truly know! Even before becoming a demon, I knew the village's secrets. I used to make everyone uncomfortable." He said growing bored.
"Well, then you must have also been abandoned. Just like how you can read others, you're an open book yourself," Yasu said coldly as Touji looked at her. "Am I right?" Touji grew slightly uncomfortable as he sent more obstacles her way. "So what?"
"So what? It's sad because you pick on these people's lives because of something they have. They all have someone who'll remember them, love them, and care about them. But you. You're alone. You were abandoned."
"Why don't you just shut up? I'm way more popular than you! Everyone knows my name and fears me! No one will ever see you!" Touji yelled as he tackled Yasu. "But no one will truly care about yoy," Yasu said as she kicked him up and jumped up a tree.
As Touji hit the ground, in anger, he looked around frantically. "Shut up!! Shut up shut up sHUT UP SHUT UP!! NONE OF THAT MATTERS!!" Suddenly Yasu jumped from the tree. "Wisteria Breathing, Ninth Form: Azaleas of Guilt!!" Yasu then lunges at Touji as he starts seeing Azaleas grow and wither. "What the..." Suddenly Touji drops to the ground.
"Why can't I move? Why do I feel so weak?" As Touji's eyes start darting, he looks at his body with now fresh 11 slashes. "Is this poison? That BRAT!!" He yelled as Yasu ran.
She was running out of breath and she needed to rest. Luckily, all she needed was a few minutes to freshen up and give it her all to defeat him.
As she found a marked boulder, she pushed it with all her strength. Suddenly, a demon jumped out tackling her.
"What!" Yasu gasped as she kicked them into the sky. As they hit the ground, burned from the little sun that reached them, Yasu decapitated.
She continued running until she found one of the marked trees and climbed into the center of the branches.
As she entered the tree, she was engulfed in the smell of wisteria. "He won't be able to attack me from here now," she breathed out as she sat down.
As she took deep breaths, she couldn't help but remember her past. Touji triggered something in her mind, something she never wanted to remember.
"No. No. Stop it. Not again." Yasu gasped as she ran her hands through her hair. "Yasu," Yasu gasped as she heard Ayaka's voice from a past memory, "It's okay to remember."
"I know it hurts. Believe me, I know." Ayaka smiled. "But we have to embrace it. If we don't, they'll just keep haunting us. If you don't want to tell me it's fine. But I'm here to help you, just like how you helped me. I care about you so much. So don't let anything hold you back. Sometimes we have to embrace it to become a better and stronger version of ourselves."
As Yasu opened her eyes, remembering what Ayaka told her, she took deep breaths. Maybe she was right. In a setting like this, the cool of the wind, and the trees, Yasu went back many years. Whether she was ready or not, she was about to relive her memories. Her past.
