Jesse's face had been all over the news.

Well, her masked face.ย

Ever since the night that she swung through the glass with the masked man she had been everywhere. Nobody knew who she was, which made the media more determined to catch her in action the past few nights in desperate attempt to find her true identity.ย

People had a love-hate relationship with her. Some said that the woman in the mask was bound to be like every other vigilante in Hells Kitchen, while others said she was the start of a revolution for women all over the world. Truly, Jess could care less about the sudden attention. They had been doing this for years, following the Avengers around until they became bored and moved on to someone else who decided to scoundrel New York in a suit and mask . The only issue was, Karen, and Foggy where desperate to find out the woman's identity.ย

"I bet its Jossie." Foggy said, leaning back in his chair with his laptop in front of him. They had been on this topic for about an hour now ever since the first official photo of the vigilante was put online.

"Jossie? Are you serious Foggy?" Karen laughed, pouring herself a cup of instant coffee that was practically water at this point.ย

"That woman's always been a mystery," he argued, flailing his arms around. "Who says after she closes the bar that she doesn't through a mask on and parkour around Hells Kitchen."ย

I snorted, typing up recent reports from a case we had been dealing with for the past few days. "Yeah, I'm sorry Foggy but I don't really see Jossie fighting crime in a mask. The woman's too much of a badass, she would do it without a secret identity."ย

Foggy laughed, "Okay, well if my idea is so foreign who do you think she is?"ย

I paused, "I don't know...I'm not really focused on finding her identity. I mean she has the mask for a reason so I think we should just let her be."ย

"Eh, that doesn't sound fun. I'm still on the theory its Jossie." Foggy said, facing his laptop again and writing up reports.ย

Matt walked through the door, facing the group the noise was coming from. He was dressed in a suit with a grey button up.ย

"Well there's sleeping beauty." Foggy said. "You seriously had your assistant come in before you while you where snoozing away?"ย

"We both know she's better at this job that I am." He smiled, "And I wasn't sleeping, I was grabbing us these." He said, lifting up a paper bag which he soon revealed to have a box of doughnuts in them.ย

"Oh how lovely, you show up late and your trying to get me fat." I said, turning back at Matt. He smiled towards my direction, "Its what I'm best at." He shrugged, handing me a doughnut which I gladly took without hesitation.ย

"So, what have I missed so far?" He asked, taking a doughnut with pink frosting and colored sprinkles all over.ย

"Well, I got an email from our client this morning saying he would like to meet with us and discuss his most recent case regarding the assault charges. Since then we've just been filling out a case file which has occupied about-" I looked at my watch, "-30 minutes of our time. Other then that Foggy has been trying to identify the girl in the mask." I said, turning towards my laptop.

"Didn't you see? She has a name now." Foggy said, pointing at me. "They're calling her the Devils Angel." He nodded his head.

"The Devils Angel?" I laughed. "That's interesting."

"Well all the photos they've gotten with her she's been with the devil of hells kitchen. They're betting that these two are in some sort of relationship."

I hummed along. Oh how the Devil of Hells kitchen was probably pissed that we where considered to be in a relationship. Every picture had been of them on the roof together, and some had been fan art that people had sent in to the journaling offices.ย

"What do you think, Matt?" Karen questioned, looking back at him as he walked up towards me, sitting down in an office chair next to me. "You've got any theories about who this mystery girl is?"ย

He shook his head, a slight smile forming on his face. "Not one clue."ย

He wasn't lying. He had been trying to figure out who this mystery girl was for months. Who the secret Russian woman was that had been helping him fight crime for almost 5 months. Still, considering she was a stubborn ass she never gave any form of her identity up and always asked for Matt to reveal his. The girl was something extraordinary to him, only she didn't have to know that. Don't get him wrong, he hated her with everything in him, but she was interesting to be with. This tension they had when they where together was unbearable. Every time she would groan when he came into the picture or when he would hear her heart rate increase when he mentioned any pet name of any sort.ย

"Why are you smiling like that?" Foggy asked, "Oh I see, Matt thinks she's hot."ย

An instant heat rushed to my cheeks, causing me to laugh along like everyone else.ย

"I never said that, I just said I had no clue who she was." He said defensively laughing.

"That smug smile says it all, Murdock." Foggy said, pointing a finger at him. "I mean, I think she's hot. I wouldn't kick her out of bed."ย

I choked on my coffee, making everyone around me laugh.ย

"What? Oh come on I can't say anything about her?" Foggy exclaimed, "Fine, what about the masked man? What's your opinion on him?" He nodded towards me.ย

"My opinion?" I laughed.ย

"Yeah, smash or pass?"ย

"Oh my God, Foggy." Matt said, leaning back in his chair. The truth was he truly was desperate to see the reaction from her.ย

"Are you serious?" I questioned, followed by an eager nod from Foggy. "I don't know...pass I guess."ย

The heat from Matt's cheeks left as he sat up in his chair. I mean, its not like she knew the man was him, so it wasn't completely offensive and disappointing.

"Your a liar. I can see it in your face."ย

"I am not a liar." I argued, chuckling in my seat.ย

"Are too, and you know it!" Karen said, laughing when I gave her a look of shock.ย

"Okay fine." I paused, "He's a little hot I guess."ย

"So smash?" Foggy asked, rather eagerly. He knew about Matt's secret identity and knew this was causing Matt to go internally insane as he waited for Jesse's response.

I took a deep breath in looking around at everyone, "Smash." I mumbled quietly.ย

Everyone laughed. Foggy raised his hands up in a victory stance. "I knew it!" He exclaimed.ย

Matt was laughing, attempting to cover the absolute boyish smile that he wore on his lips.

~

After endless hours of sitting in a desk hunched over my laptop it was finally time to leave. The office was closing up for the day as the street light reflected into the building, creating a yellow haze over the receptionist desk.ย

I slammed my laptop shut with an exhausted groan. Rubbing my face with my hands, I stood up, pushing in my chair and throwing my coat on.ย

"If I spend any more time on this case I'm convinced I'm gonna go crazy."ย

"I need a drink." Foggy said, walking out into the main office.ย

"A drink actually does sound nice." Karen stated, "Jossies?"ย

"Why not. That way Foggy can ask Jossie if she's the masked woman." Matt joked, walking towards the door near me as he leaned on the wall near me, looking over and smiling as he spoke.ย

"Oh please don't get him started on that again." I laughed, slapping my face with my hand.ย

We all walked out of the building together, Matt wrapping his arm around mine as we walked together down the wet streets of Hells Kitchen. I never knew if he did it just for the mere fact that he needed it or if he actually enjoyed it. Foggy would always raise his eyebrows in a suggestive way when he did it, making me roll my eyes at him. If I was being honest I did like Matt a lot. He was a nice guy, charming, and I could tell he actually cared. Plus he was hilarious, which is truly what I need in my life.ย

The past few days had been rainy, making the air cold and moist. We laughed as we walked, talking about endless little things.ย

We drank for about two hours as we spoke and played pool. Foggy was getting rather irritated by the fact I kept beating him.ย

"This is bullshit. You told me you where decent at pool." He argued after winning yet another game.ย

"I am decent." I said lifting up my pool stick and standing it next to me, "You just suck."ย

Karen and Matt laughed from the barstool next to us, "She's got a point, Foggy." Matt laughed.

"Oh and your just great? Come on, let me see you win against me." Foggy said, putting his arms out.ย

"Oh come on, Foggy. He's blind for Gods sake." I chuckled, "He can't even see which ball he's trying to hit."ย

"Then I guess I'll need your help." He said, coming up from behind me and steeling the stick from my hand.ย

Foggy smirked, placing his tongue on the inside of his cheek as he shook his head.ย

"What's that look for Foggy?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Oh nothing...nothing at all." He said, setting the balls up again. "Matt, considering the fact I know I'm gonna win, you can have the honor of breaking."ย

"Why Thank you so very much." Matt said sarcastically as he bent over the pool table. I walked up next to him, moving his hand on the pool stick as I leaned over helping him.ย

"Okay...now you are just gonna-" I whispered leaning next to him, moving the stick over a bit, "There we go. Now just pull your arm back," I pulled his arm back, resting my hand on his bicep, pushing it forward so the white ball moved to the large set of colored balls, sending a striped ball into a hole. "And boom! You did great." I cheered as he stood up, placing his hand on my lower back. "We make quite the team."ย

"I don't know if you would call me doing all the work and you getting credit for it a team setting." I smiled, "I'm gonna go grab us some more drinks. Same thing as before everyone?" I asked, pointing around.ย

"Oh I'll actually go with you." Karen said, waving her hand up and following me towards the bar.ย

When Jess left Matt looked forward again, hitting the ball perfectly into a hole, getting two in one set.ย

"Your a terrible man." Foggy said, walking over towards him.

"She wanted to teach me." He said, defensively raising his arms to his sides.ย

"She's your assistant." Foggy argued.

"Doesn't mean she can't teach me how to play pool." He said, acting dumbfounded, hiding a sly smirk that he wore on his face.ย

Foggy scoffed, "You always land the pretty ones."ย

"It's not my fault I'm such a charming man."ย

"Oh Jesus-" Foggy interrupted, looking straight forward at the bar. He was laughing hard as hell as he watched what was going on.

"What?" Matt asked before he felt every heartbeat around him increase. The sounds of people cheering began filling the air around them. Super Freak by Rick James was playing loudly from the speakers and noises of heels tapping on the counter made him realize what was happening.

"Please tell me Jess isn't on that counter dancing." Matt said, a smile forming on his lips.ย

"Oh she is," Foggy laughed, "And she is definitely earning the attention of many people."

Jess was up on the counter using a bottle of vodka as a microphone as she danced around. People where surrounding the counter as she danced, earning claps and cheers from others, including Karen who was cheering her on louder then anyone.ย

"How much did she have to drink?" Matt asked, turning back towards Foggy who was walking towards him. He wasn't mad about Jesse's sudden extroverted side, but rather the fact he couldn't see it. Every man's heartbeat in the bar was increasing dramatically, as some spoke about her to their friends, whistling at the lady on the counter.

"I'm guessing too much." He said, clapping along with everyone else.ย

Matt and Foggy made their way to the counter as the song made it's way to the end. People where cheering Jesse's name and whistling as she fell back off the counter, being caught by a group of men who raised their drinks to her.ย

"Thank you, boys!" She said, raising her hands up as if she had just won the best game of her life.ย

"Anytime, honey!" A guy said as they all whistled while she walked towards Matt, Foggy, and Karen. Her hair was out of the usual bun she wore, and her blazar was discarded somewhere.ย

"So..what the hell was that?" Foggy asked, still impressed by the girl who he usually found rather quiet at work.ย

"I really love Rick James..Like a lot." Jess slurred, leaning over on Matt's shoulder with her hand holding onto him. He helped her up a bit, making sure she didn't fall over as it seemed gravity was practically pulling her down.ย

"I think you've had enough for the night." Matt said, "Don't get me wrong the performance sounded wonderful and I can guarantee every man here also enjoyed it." He chuckled, wrapping his arm around the girls arm as he walked towards the door with Karen and Foggy following behind.ย

"Oh I can get home, I live just down the road-"ย

"Jess, I'm walking you home. Don't even try and argue with me." Matt said, facing down at her direction as he opened the door and walked onto the concrete, "Your wasted, and I want to make sure you don't end up in another bar dancing to Rick James."

Jess laughed, looking down and then behind her at Karen and Foggy who where smiling at the pair.ย

"Are you both gonna be okay?" I asked, looking back at them.

"Oh we'll be perfectly fine. Don't worry about us." Karen said, doing a half wave off.

ย "Just get our dancing queen home safely, Matt!" Foggy yelled as we started walking.

Matt and I chuckled as we walked down the cold streets of Hells Kitchen. I clutched my hand around Matt's arm tighter as a gust of wind came from behind us.ย

"Are you cold?" He asked concerned, looking down at me. "Here." He said, taking his suit jacket off quickly and placing it around my shoulders.ย

"Thanks." I said rather eagerly as I tucked the jacket further up my shoulders, leaning in on Matt as we walked home. Her motions where unnoticeable to her but to Matt it was everything. Every time she would place her head on his shoulder or grab her arm when she felt the slightest big unsafe he noticed, making sure he did what he could to keep her from feeling that way.ย

"So...I don't seem to know much about you, Ms. Grace-Philips." He flashed a million dollar smile, "Tell me everything I need to know about you. I'm talking where you grew up, parents, first pet, all of that sentimental shit."ย

I chuckled, "Well there isn't much too me." I lied, "I grew up in Manhattan, left when I turned 18, and well here I am."ย

"Okay well I find that very hard to believe that you don't have much to you considering the fact you just had a full concert at the bar." He laughed, clutching her closer to his side the slightest bit as he used his stick to guide the way. "Why'd you become a lawyer?" He asked.ย

"Well I wanted to be a journalist but that didn't really work out. I had gotten a scholarship to law school when I was in high-school so I decided to do this instead." I shrugged, "Not necessarily my dream job but I do get to argue with people for a living so its not terrible." I chuckled lightheartedly.ย

"You where interested in journalism?"

"Oh extremely." I laughed, "I joined the student paper secretly when I was a freshman and told my dad I was on the debate team. He believed me until he asked the debate team leader and she said she had never even heard of me."ย

"You where sneaky, huh?" He laughed.

"Not sneaky, just a determined writer." I scoffed, looking up at him.ย

The walk was silent for a moment before Matt continued, "So you mentioned your dad was mad but not your mother. Was she more supportive of you writing?"ย

"She actually passed when I was two." I said rather quietly.

Matt could feel her heart beat quicken when she said that. He instantly felt like a dick for asking her and immediately tried to apologize.ย

"I'm so sorry. I didn't realize that she had passed or I wouldn't have brought it-"

"Its okay, really. It happened so long ago that I'm over it." I shrugged, "I didn't really know her so it was just normal growing up without her."ย

"Still, I'm really sorry." Matt said quickly. "I feel like an ass."ย

"Don't be. Really, its okay." She said, lightheartedly patting his arm. "It happens." She shrugged, "Just the way life is." Walking that conversation off, Jess continued, "So, tell me about you." She said, poking his arm with her finger making him chuckle lightly.

"My dad was a boxer. I grew up watching him, well- until the whole accident where I lost my eyesight." He said, motioning towards his eyes with his hands.ย

"Boxer huh? You got any cool moves." Jess said, fake punching the air in front of her. Although Matt didn't see it, he heard her hand go to the air and figured that's what she was doing, making him laugh at the girl next to him.ย

"Ah barely... Do you really picture me fighting? " He asked, throwing a fake kick out, making Jess laugh hysterically. She clenched her stomach, still having the wound from a few nights ago. They both laughed for a moment as they continued walking.

"I don't know. I mean maybe." She shrugged, still laughing. "Who says you aren't the man in the mask?"ย

If only you knew

Matt laughed hard, trying to steer the conversation back towards her. "I mean it could be you. Even though I didn't see that sick punch I could tell you where ready to take someone out." He laughed as Jess lightly punched his arm. "Jackass."ย

When they made it to Jesse's apartment they stood outside, looking at the big green door.ย

"This is me."ย

"Figured." Matt said, placing his hands in his pocket as he took his arm from hers.ย

"Thank you for walking me home." I smiled, "It was nice of you."ย

"Anytime...super freak."ย

Jess chuckled, "Is that my nickname now?"ย

"I believe so. I know Foggy is gonna love making you a name tag for your desk with that on there. Super freak, "he waved his arm in the air, "attorney at law."ย

She laughed as she leaned in the doorframe of her place. Matt was standing right in front of her, looking down at her face. He could see the curve of her face, and her nose, with a couple loose strands of hair coming down to her face. He placed his hand on her cheek, swiping his thumb over it.ย

Jesse's heart beat raced as he did this, and her eyes looked up at him with pure lust.ย

As he leaned down his lips met hers, kissing her softly before pulling back.ย

"Goodnight, Jess." He whispered, taking his hand off her cheek.ย

"Goodnight, Matt." She whispered back as he walked off down the street.ย

Jess opened her door, closing it and looking over at Lily who was peering over out the window with a face mask on and a glass of wine in her left hand.ย

Jess furrowed her brows and crossed her arms, "What the hell are you doing?"

"Just watching you freak out about kissing your boss." Lily smiled devilishly, walking over and plopping down on the couch and patting the spot next to her. "Come on, come tell me all about him."ย

Jess formed her lips into a straight and serious line before dropping her bag on the floor and smiling like a school girl as she ran over to the couch, flinging her heels off behind her. She squealed like a child as she sat down next to Lily, both of them laughing out of pure joy.

As Matt walked back to his place he couldn't help but smile. He looked like an absolute idiot as he walked down the sketchy roads of Hells Kitchen.ย

Jess spoke with Lily until the clock struck 2:00am. Lily was asleep on the couch next to her and Jess was smiling like a fool looking up at the ceiling. She tugged at the jacket on her shoulders, pulling it up and smiling even wider knowing that the jacket she was wearing was indeed his.
