Matt - Ankle
Hello! Welcome to the first chapter of this collaboration book.
How this works is the first paragraph was written by Millie ( @Officially_HanJisung ) and then the paragraph after that was written by me ( StopDropAndRollAway if you don't know who me is π ) and the it rotates like that the whole story.
Requests are open for this book!!!!
Requested by Eve ( @LuverMatty03 ):
"yk Matt's ankle injury?? We maybe you can make a one shot on it if it gets worse. At first he would think it's a little pain it would go away soon but it gradually gets worse and worse. Then when he goes to the doctor they realize it's way worse then they thought."
Yesss ik this was recommended to my book but we need one here to get started withh.
Anyway we hope you enjoy!!
--------
Ever since the triplets went to the zoo, Matt's ankle had been bothering him. He didn't think much of it at first, hoping it would heal by itself.
Lately though, that was not the case. It had progressed much worse. He winced slightly everytime he stepped on it.
He tried to hide it, and for a while it did work. But his limping became so bad it would be hard not to notice.
One day, when Matt woke up, he tried walking into the kitchen. Nick was already there. His limping had gotten so bad even his brother had noticed.
"Matt? Why are you limping?"
"Uh, nothing. I probably slept on it wrong and it's still kinda asleep."
"Don't lie to me. It's been like this for a few days."
"Really, Nick. It's nothing."
Matt said, trying to change the topic. He didn't want to lie to Nick, but he didn't want to go to the doctor. He hated the doctor so much, and his anxiety didn't help. If they were to take him to the doctor they would probably have to drag him out of the house and into the Uber.
"Matt" Nick continued. "Just let me see it. I can try to help."
"I said it's fine Nick, just leave me alone!" Nick was slightly taken aback. Matt wasn't one to yell or get mad, only when something was seriously wrong or he dosen't want someone to find out about something.
"Whatever" Nick muttered, sinking back into the couch. Matt continued on his morning routine. He kept limping around the house so bad even Chris saw and questioned. Matt tried to play it off again, but Chris was more persistent than Nick.
"Matt? Why the fuck are you still limping? Don't give me the 'it's nothing' bullship you've been limping since the zoo." Chris said grabbing Matt's arm so he can't walk away.
"It's not bullshit! It is nothing!" Matt snaps back.
"I can wait all day. You're not leaving here until you tell me." Chris said refusing to let go of Matt. He knew something was wrong and was tired of Matt not telling them.
"Chris just let it go!" Matt said trying to wiggle out of his grip.
"I'm not letting it go until you tell me what's wrong."
"Chris. Like i said before. I just slept on it wrong! Now leave me the fuck alone before i get really mad!" Chris let Matt go, hoping that he would talk to him soon. He never wanted to see an angry, angry Matt.
Matt stormed to his room. He tried to make himself look mad and angry, but with the condition his foot was in, he just looked hurt. He was constantly limping and wincing, so it didn't help.
When Matt got to his room, he closed the door and slid down it. His foot hurt so much he couldn't go any further than that right now.
He started to cry from the pain. He was as silent as he could be, but he let a few sounds escape. They were quiet, so he hoped Nick and Chris didn't hear them.
He held his ankle as the pain got worse. It was now shooting pains through his entire leg. He put his hand around his mouth, trying to silence the sobs coming out. It hurt too much for him to bear, but he didn't want his brothers to know the pain he had been dealing with for the past 2 months
Matt felt the pain radiating through his leg. All he wanted was for it to stop. He wished there was some way to make it stop. But the only way would be by telling his brothers and going to the doctor. And he didn't want to do that.
But deep down, he knew the more he put it off, the more it would hurt, and the worse it would be when he did go to the doctor.
Matt tried to stand up and grab his phone from the nightstand, but he let out a loud whimper as he put pressure on that foot. He sunk back down to the floor, deciding to crawl instead. He could've hopped, but the loud steps to the floor would've alerted his brothers, and he didn't want that. He crawled, his knees getting red from the floor, until he got to his phone.
He hesitated before calling Nate.
"Hey. What's up?" Nate answered.
"Hey. Um. Dont freak, but i need you to come pick me up and bring me to the hospital. My ankle is killing me and i can barely move."
"What do you mean you can barely move?" Nate asks, sounding kind of panicked.
"Just please come pick me up." Matt says as he tries not to make a sound as he feels another sharp shooting pain go through his leg.
"Do Nick and Chris know?" Nate questions. He would pick Matt up but he wondered why they couldn't help him get there.
"Well.. no.."
"Matthew! Why don't they know? And how am I supposed to get you without them seeing and asking questions?" Nate says kind of disappointed that Matt was hiding this from his brothers. Nate would pick him up regardless he just didn't want Nick and Chris to be mad at him for not telling them.
"Ill just say i forgot we had plans and i was in a rush to leave."
"Just...fine. Okay. I'll be there in 5." Nate answered.
"Thanks." Matt whimpered and let out a groan as another unbearable pain shot through his leg.
"Matt? What happened?"
"Nothing. I'll see you in 5." Matt answered as he hung up the phone. He bit back a scream as he stood on his foot, tears pricking the corner of his eyes
Matt walked to his door, trying to fight back all the pain he felt as he walked. All he had to do was get outside. And go down a flight of stairs and lie to his brothers..
He opened his door and walked past the kitchen where they were.
"I'm going out with Nate. I forgot we had plans." He said as he fought back tears. He hoped his brothers didn't ask any questions as he approached the top of the stairs.
He took a deep breath, biting his cheek as he lowered his foot to the lower step. When he had the pressure on that foot, he bit his cheek more, almost making it bleed.
He could hear Nate's car pulling up outside, he quickly tried to move, biting his cheek more and more. He quickly put his sandals on, limping outside and into Nate's car. As soon as he shut the door he flopped his head forward and sobbed, letting the tears out. He started gasping over the pain. Nate rubbed his back, still parked in front of the house.
"Just drive, please." Matt insisted.
Nate looked at Matt one more time before pulling off the side of the road and starting to the hospital. He didn't know whether to tell Nick and Chris or not to. He didn't know what to do. All he did know was that Matt really needed his foot checked out if it was making him cry. It took a lot of pain for Matt to cry over.
Matt continued crying. It hurt worse than it did this morning and he didn't know how or why it escalated this way.
"Please." He cried out. "Make it stop. It hurts." He sobbed louder, gasping for air as the pain turned into a constant shooting.
He couldn't breathe as he began to have a panic attack. He continued gasping for air.
"Help" he whispered, unable to get one good breath in. He felt the car turn and could hear the faint click of the blinker. Nate had pulled off to the side of the road.
Nate got out and ran to Matt's door, opening it and unbuckling him, trying to do anything to make him feel less suffocated.
"Breathe Matt.. I know it hurts, but you're going to make yourself pass out.. Breathe."
Nate said as he opened the dashboard and started to look around for anything to help with his pain.
Matt spotted a bottle of paracetomal in the bottom of the dashboard. He shakily grabbed it. His shaky hands couldn't open the lid, so Nate took it from him. He opened the lid and put 2 in his hands, grabbed the bottle of water from the door and gave them to Matt, helping him take it. Matt coughed up a little water, but no medicine.
He was still gasping when the pills started to take effect. Nate placed his hand on Matt's back, rubbing it up and down in hoped Matt would follow it with his breathing. Matt eventually caught on, taking deep breaths as Nate went up and breathing out when the hand went down.
"Are we ok for now?"
Nate asked as he continued to rub Matt's back, trying to comfort him as much as possible as he kept crying.
"Yea.."
Matt responded quietly as he continued to take deep breaths.
He felt Nates hand leave his back and heard his door close as he continued to sip on the water. He heard another door open and close again then the blinker stopped. Nate patted his shoulder before heΒ put his seat belt back on then pulled back out into the road again. Continuing their way to the hospital.
Matt was still leaning forward when they arrived to the hospital. The medicine had helped, but only in the slightest. The shooting pain had only been reduced to a throbbing sensation.
He tried to hop out of the car but his leg still hurt. He wasn't able to move very much, so Nate went to his side of the car and helped him hop through the hospital doors. As he walked in, a nurse spotted him and gave him a wheelchair so he could roll around instead of walking on his ankle.
The emergency room was pretty much empty, so they got a room right away. The nurse took the wheel chair away from Nate and started pushing Matt into an empty room so he could be looked at, with Nate following behind.
"A doctor will be with you shortly, sweetheart." The nurse said as she left the room.
Nate helped Matt onto the bed, being sure not to hurt his ankle anymore. Now, all they had to do was wait.
The doctor walked in, taking a look at Matt and asking him what was wrong. Matt explained the situation and the doctor asked for Matt to take his shoe off. Matt tried to do so, almost screaming in pain as the pressure was on his foot again. His shoe eventually came off. Matt, nate and the doctor gasped at his ankle. It was slightly swollen but with purple and blue all around it. Matt normally had his high length socks on, but he wore short socks today because of the pain. He never seemed to notice the markings.
The doctor removed his sock, being as careful as he possibly could be, knowing it would hurt him getting it taken off. Matt was lying back against the bed with his eyes close to not think about the pain as much. Nate was holding his hand, not knowing what else to do.
Nate hand was going numb from holding Matt's, but he did what he needed to do. Matt hated hospitals because of his anxiety and past trauma, so Nate could see his chest rise and fall quickly and hear the slight whimpers as the doctor proded around his ankle and foot. One spot especially hurt and he squeezed nates hand so tight, Matt's hand turned white.
"Stop, please stop. It hurts. Stop. No stop."
"Mr. Sturniolo?Β I believe we need to do an xray if you'll follow me."
This time, Nate picked Matt up off the bed and sat him down into the wheelchair gently, knowing he wouldn't be able to do anything with his foot right now. The doctor started pushing the wheelchair out of the room and off to the x ray room with Nate staying behind in the room, not being able to go for safety reasons.
When Matt entered, the doctor asked if he could lay on the bed. Matt tried standing up, but his leg gave out, so he almost would of crashed face first if it wasn't for the the doctor catching him. He picked him up and placed him on the bed, getting the xray ready and placing a paper like blanket on him. The blanket had a little hole where the xray needed to look at so it would help.
The doctor started the x ray, and the whole time, Matt was trying his hardest to stay still. But the pain, as well as his anxiety of doctors and being alone with one, wasn't really helping. He couldn't wait for the x ray to be over. He just wanted to be with Nate again. He just wanted his brothers as well. He should've told them, he thought.
He tried to remember the feeling of Nate's hand on his back while he was panicking in the car. The feeling of his hand running up and down. He relaxed slightly, still allowing the doctor to do the work. He was still kind of jittery, and he had a guilt pooling in his stomach for not telling his siblings, but he tried his best to stay still. Soon enough, the monitor beeped and the screen showed pictures of his ankle bone. The doctor went wide eyed.
"How long did you say this had been going on for?"
"2 months.." Matt responded quietly, still trying to remain calm.
"Do you have any family I can call? You might want them here.." The doctor said, being very vague about how bad his foot was.
"Yea... my brothers.. Why?" Matt asked. What the doctor said wasn't helping his anxiety.
"I think we should wait for them to get here to discuss that. Let's get you back to your room.." The doctor said as he walked to where Matt was lying and removed the paper covering before gently picking Matt up and sitting him back into the wheelchair.
Matt's breath was slowly picking up until he was bent over, slightly gasping. If he needed to call his brothers, it meant it was really bad. The doctor didn't seem to notice Matt's panic attack until they reached Nate. Matt's nails were clawing at his neck, leaving red scratch marks.
"Woah Matt, breathe. You're okay. It's over, breathe." Nate tried to comfort Matt again, taking his hands away from his neck. The doctor just stood there, as if nothing was happening.
"What is wrong with you, go get some help or help yourself!" Nate said, his voice rising
Nate picked Matt up and laid him on the bed, trying to get him more comfortable and more room so he could calm down easier. The doctor just left the room to leave Nate to deal with Matt and his panic attack.
"Breath Matt.. please.."
Nate said as he started rubbing Matt's back again since it worked well the first time. Nate didn't even know what happened, but he assumed it was something pretty bad or concerning.
"He said...to call someone...he wouldnt tell me...what's going on" Matt tried to explain, hiccuping and gasping every few words.
"I'm sure it's okay. Just focus on breathing okay? Follow me. Breathe in...hold...breathe out..hold. Repeat. Okay?" Nate asked trying to do the breathing exercises, knowing that Matt would relax faster is someone was doing the same as him.
As soon as Matt calmed down, some, Nate decided to ask him a question to try to understand more.
"Call who?"
"Nick.. and Chris.." Matt said, still hiccuping a little bit in between.
"Do you want me to call them for you?" Nate asked which Matt just nodded to.
Nate took his phone out of hisΒ back pocket, putting in his password and dialing Nick's number.
"Hey Nate. Arent you hanging out with Matt?"
"Yeah, listen. I need you to stay calm, grab Chris and bring him to the hospital. I'm with Matt because he could barely move his ankle. Don't ask questions, just come." Nate told Nick, before hanging up.Β He stayed with Matt, holding his hand and rubbing his thumb over the top of his knuckles.
Matt's neck was still red from where he scratched it and it looked like it hurt.
"CHRIS! GET YOUR ASS UP HERE NOW WE'RE LEAVING!" Nick yelled as he put his shoes on and called for an Uber.
"Nick? What the fuck is going on?" Chris said as he got to the top of the stairs and walked into the kitchen where Nick was.
"Matt's at the hospital, and Nate just called me telling me we need to get there now. So stop standing around and get a move on." Nick said as the phone was ringing dialing the number for the Uber.
After ordering an uber, they waited for it to arrive. Chris just stood there, confused as to what happened. He was also in shock, but mostly confused.
"Wait, what?" Chris asked.
"I'll explain on the way there." Nick answered, shaking his leg out of anxiety.
The uber arrived and they ran outside quickly, hopping into the vehicle and rushing the words out.
The uber driver quickly started driving at the urgency of the voice. Nick calmly explained what happened with Matt and his ankle to Chris and he understood better.
The whole car ride, Nick was taping his leg, and Chris was looking around like a lost and confused puppy.
They were both undeniably scared for Matt and what would happen when they got there.
"How much longer?" Nick asked the Uber driver as he felt Chris grab his hand. He didn't blame Chris he was worried too.
"About 5 minutes." The Uber driver responded with.
Chris put his head back and sighed, his leg shaking more. Why did it have to take so long, he wondered. After what felt like hours but had only been about 4 minutes, Nick saw the hospital sign. Both of them quickly unbuckled their seatbelts, opening the door and hopping out before the car was at a complete stop. They thanked the driver before running inside, going to the front desk and quickly asking for a Matt Sturniolo or Nate (idk his last name). The nurse quickly paged Nate and less than a minute later, you could see him running out, and into the waiting room.
"Whats going on?!" Nick asked.
"I'll explain in a second. Right now, Matt needs you. Bad."
Nate led them to the room where Matt was, and they saw him lying there with tear tracks down his face. They noticed the red scratch marks on his neck and could tell he definitely had a panic attack or too. They saw how bruised up his ankle was also now that it was exposed and he couldn't hide it anymore.
"Matt, what the heck happened to your ankle." Nick asked, out of concern.
"I..i dont know..the doctor said to call someone. Im scared Nicky." Nick's heart melted as Matt used the nickname he hadn't used in a while. Nick only remembers hearing it when Matt was sick, delusional or very, very scared.
He just pulled him in for a hug as Matt's tears ran down his face. The tears ran quicker as Matt kept whispering shakily.Β
"Im scared, im really scared."
"It's ok, Matt..." Nick says, trying to comfort him as much as possible.
"Yea.. We're here.." Chris adds in coming over and joining the hug, making it a group hug.
"I'm sorry guys I should've told you.." Nate says quietly feeling bad for lying to them and for the condition Matt was in.
Nick or Chris didn't answer Nate, only caring about Matt. The doctor walked in a few minutes later. He looked surprised that his brothers looked like him, but shook it off and looked at Matt.
"Thank you guys for coming here. I wanted to discuss the situationof Mr. Sturniolo's ankle. We took an x ray and its not good." He said, pulling out the pictures of the x ray. "Im surprised he was able to walk on it okay for 2 months with the way it is."
At this point, they all pulled out of the hug, and Chris was sitting next to Matt on the bed with his arm wrapped around his shoulders. Matt was resting into Chris' side, still crying slightly. He was still terrified but was doing better now. Nick and Chris were there.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Nick was tired of the doctor tip toeing around the issue. He wanted to know what was wrong right then and there. He didn't want to hear the doctor apologize or try to make it sound better than it was. He wanted the truth.
"Well, as you can see on the picture, the bone is cracked. Its not completely broken, but it has a crack that could be much worse. It could snap at any moment and make it much worse and painful. This is a very dangerous thing and it needs to be put into a cast. As i said before, im very surpised how you survived this long." The doctor explained.
Matt stopped listening after a while, beggining to get tired, after the couple panic attacks and the day he had. He leaned more onto Chris and he closed his eyes.
"So what do we do now?" Nick asked.
"Well, I can go have a nurse come in and cast it for you. He will need crutches and rest his foot as much as possible. It will need to be elevated as much as you can also. Every day, ice it at least 3 times a day for 20 minutes at a time and at least 2 hours between each icing." The doctor explained.
The doctor called in a nurse and she brought in a baby blue cast with a bandage and crutches. They elevated his foot, and started wrapping it. Matt winced in pain a lot and tears began to brim his eyes again, it hurt so much. Nick took his hand and squeezed it. He could see Matt slightly relax after. The nurse then put on the hard part of the cast and finished it up, giving him crutches and then leaving. During this time, the doctor was writing a perscription for pain medication and gave it to his brothers afterwards.
The doctor hands them the prescriptions and then left the room to go get the discharge papers.
By this point, Matt is basically already asleep.
"I'm so sorry, guys.." Nate says again quietly.
"It's ok, Nate. You got him here to get help and helped him with his anxiety. But you will have to drive us home." Chris said as Matt was asleep against his side. His arm still wrapped around Matt.
"Yea, Nate, we're not mad at you. But you do at least owe us driving us home." Nick adds.
Right after that, the doctor walks back in with the discharge papers.
Nate chuckled a bit hearing that statement. The doctor walked in as he did and handed them the papers for them to sign. Nick, being the oldest triplet, signed it as they got up and thanked the doctor walking....and swinging...out of the room. Matt only knew the basics of using crutches, but for now, that's all he needed. They walked out of the hospital and Nate drove them to the pharmacy, to get the perscription and then drove them home.
