145. A Vow.
Today's fight was one where I knew I shouldn't interfere.
Arjun was dead set on his own vow and the stars of Keeping up with the Kurus were hell bent on making his vow fail.
While I was busy in my own fight, I suddenly felt the sun rays fall away leaving a cloudy and twilight sky. The area was lit up with fire torches and there was commotion around the centre of the field.
" Arjun? " I asked confused as he got off the chariot, dejected, but his spirit wasn't broken. It was as if the death of his son made him aware of a reality.
This reality was my nightmare.. And now, it was my reality too.
But as he walked ahead, Shakuni's brain finally worked.. And it made me want to laugh in Shakuni's face when I realised what Krishn had done.
" Why mamashree. Took you far too long to realise? " I laughed and he glared at me.
" Vasudev! Remove your Sudarshan from the skies, the one which hides the sun behind it! " He shouted angrily.
Jaydrath, who had been looking smug all this while looked up in surprise, his smile fell of his face, replaced by fear.
"I-still! If you kill me and my head hits the ground because of you, you'll burn up! You still cannot kill me! " He shouted at Arjun who smirked.
I had seen him smile like a little boy, smirk mischievously, cry, weep, look smitten in love. But this was unique because this one was ruthless.
" I don't need to. Your father's boon will be fulfilled by him only, " He threatened as he drew his bow, then closed his eyes.
" Parth... Remember your meditation. " Krishn said sneakily, as if they hid a big secret. I thought hard and fast before I realised what he meant.
" The pashupatastr. " Yudhishthir mumbled and I nodded, as Arjun drew the arrow, eyes trained on Jaydrath's head, before it went flying off with the arrow, his body lying headless.
Some say that for a few seconds, the body can survive headless.
This was proved when we saw Jaydrath's body shudder and shake, before finally giving it's life.
" No! " Duryodhan's angry voice rang across the field as he threw away soldiers in anger, rushing towards Arjun and us, before we saw the actual sunset and he stopped short, eyes contorted in anger and fury.
" What did you do! This is deceit Vasudev!" Shakuni yelled.
" Was it not deceit when five men attacked one boy! " Vishwa roared back.
" I will kill you Arjun! I won't spare you! " Duryodhan shouted, as he was held back by Ashwatthama and his brothers. Well those that remained.
Bheem and Nakul finally made a pact. Nakul would have the chance to kill Dushasan. And the rest were the recipients of Bheem's anger.
But why you ask? Well....
7 years ago, just after the sabha...
" Bhabhishree? " I heard Bheem call as he walked over to the balcony.
" What is it? Did you not find enough food in the kitchens-" I began but he stopped me.
He took one hand and asked me to sit, before sitting down myself.
"Bhabhishree. I am sorry.. " He mumbled and I looked at him confused , placing my hand on his head.
" What for? Are you alright? " I couldn't understand why he wanted to apologize to me.
"Bhabhishree, I couldn't protect you or Jyeshth in the sabha. What's the use of such power when I couldn't use it when it mattered the most. " He cried, holding up his hands as if in defeat.
" But Bheem, it wasn't your fault. I put myself to bet. I took the risk to save my husband and despite it being one of the most idiotic things I have ever done, it saved him and it showed Maharaj Dhritarashtr not to test me, your wife and our sisters. So why are you apologetic? " He put his head next to my hand on the sofa, eyes moist.
" But I am the elder after Jyeshth Yudhishthir and Jyeshth Karn. It was my responsibility to look after you, to protect you from everything that can hurt you. Even when Sahdev was ready to bet himself into the game you didn't let him. Then how did I not speak up for you? I'm sorry bhabhishree, I let you down and -"
I stopped him, standing up and pulling him too.
"No! Absolutely not! You're not at fault. Elders look after their children. Before Madhu, Mini was my child, after I married Yu- Arya, you all became akin to my own children. I don't hold you to fault and neither should you. I did what I had to do, you did what you had to do. It's not your fault. " I told him softly.
" I understand bhabhishree. But if not an apology, I do make a vow to you, " He said, " I vow to make sure that all those who laughed at you in the sabha, Duryodhan who dared to hurt one I love as my mother will regret it. I will not die till I tear Duryodhan's hands from his body for daring to touch you. " He vowed, placing my hand on his head.
" But Bheem vengeance will destroy you -"
" - this isn't vengeance bhabhishree. This is justice. I will make sure, that for any man who dares to look at a woman with lust in his eyes will loose his eyes, any who touches a woman without her permission would loose his hands and any who dares to degrade her for her purity will loose his tongue. " He said, as if it was now his only purpose in life.

" Sagarika? " A voice startled me as I sat at the edge of the pond, Madhu asleep next to me with her head on one thigh while Abhi's rested on the other.
"Mata? " I asked, looking at her, perturbed.
" Is it true that you are from Kaliyug putri? You've said it, many have said it. But I never thought it to be true." She said, sitting by me. She ran her hand over Madhu's head, smiling fondly.
" I am mata. In fact your son was there with me as well. For a short time. " I said and she looked up surprised. Looking at her confused face I couldn't help but laugh.
" When he went to Pragjtotishpur for my 'swayamvar' Krishn had actually sent him over to Kaliyug. Five months in that timeline. We spent five months there. " I said, nostalgia hitting me like a truck.
" But that means the king and queen of Pragjtotishpur aren't your birth parents are they? What about your parents in Kaliyug? " She asked.
I sighed. This was one conversation I didn't want to have on and on.
" My parents passed away when I was fifteen mata. " I told her and she gasped.
" I'm so sorry putri - I didn't know -"
" But it's fine... I found another life, one which they might not have imagined for me, but they would be happy to know I love it. All I hope is that they are proud of me. " I added wistfully.
She held my cheeks, " When one is like you, they wouldn't not be proud. You are -"
" - Priye! " Yudhishthir's voice cut off mata's words. He was panting.
" Duryodhan and his army have brought a night attack! They're advancing here and we don't have much time! " He said, though he was trying to be calm, I sensed the fear in his words.
" Go on putri. I have them. " She smiled and I nodded, running after my husband who urged me faster.
