142. Abhimanyu.
While taming my sister was hard.. So was taming her husband. Neither was ready to back down.
" I cannot believe you're still wanting to go! " Saag sai-sorry. Shouted.
" Sagarika. I am the Samrat. I have to go. I have no choice. " Yudhishthir tried placating her.
Don't worry it was of no use.
But Yudhishthir has essentially signed his death certificate.
Not by the Kuru Army no. By his wife.
Even as she left fuming after her husband, I saw the fear in her eyes.
But fear doesn't win battles Saag.
So as we proceeded to leave for another day, I saw someone else also emerge from camp.
" Abhimanyu? Shrutkarman? Where are you going? " Saag asked, evidently just as confused.
" They are about to fight my queen. " Their father announced as he walked over behind them.
" Absolutely not-"
" Karali. You cannot govern if I let my sons into the field. " Sphulingini suddenly said, her eyes dark and challenging any who dared.
I'd rather not. I've seen Devi's anger. I've seen Saag's anger.
I'm happy not meddling.
" But -"
" Sakhi. You cannot govern who fights. " Krishn said sternly, as if warning her to speak a word..
Right... Their conversation, the one where Krishn scared her for life.
" But -"
" Nothing Samragyi. I am sure of the capability of my son. He will emerge victorious." Kumari Subhadra added as she warded off the evil eye of the two young boys.
It's funny how they're only about 15 years younger than us. I cannot fathom them fighting, much less Saag.
Guddu is the same age as them. Abhi is 12 . It's strange. Rudra is 12 too, but I'll never let him fight. Not by any chance.
" Come, let's head to the fields. I have someone to kill. " Bheem announced as they walked towards the field.
I could feel Saag's frustration bubble up, her anger was simmering. These people were idiots. Sending kids into a fight.
"Arjun. Do you truly believe in defying your Samragyi on who she chooses to allow in her army? " I asked him suddenly and he shook his head.
" No, I could never defy bhabhishree. But my sons need to learn. " He announced sternly, as if leaving no room for discussion.
We reached the field and the conch shell blew, drawing the armies together once more.
With GuruDron gone, they had not many people left to make the kuru Senapati. But then they choose someone who would be far more revengeful than any on the field today.
Guruputr Ashwatthama stood on the main chariot, his eyes bloodshot as he stared at the field.
While we drew our own Vajr formation, they chose a stronger move.
" What is happening?" I asked suddenly as I saw us being surrounded by horses and soldiers. Saag and Yudhishthir stared at each other in horror, before the rest followed and I looked up in the air in frustration.
" Arjun! " I called loudly, loud enough for anyone to hear, but all I heard in reply were grunts of a man far too busy in his fight.
" It's a chakravyuh. " Sahdev announced ruefully, his eyes tracking the field in anger and confusion, before settling on something I couldn't discern.
" But how will we fight it? Only Arjun amongst us knows how to fight it -"
" So do I . " Karn called and as I felt a ray of hope shimmer, someone came and stood in front of us.
" Would you dare to defy the power of Mahadev? He who himself granted me the boon. Today I can restrain all pandavs except Arjun. None of you will pass. " A slimy voice called as he walked in on his horse, his eyes gleaming with unrestrained malevolence.
" You can stop the Pandavs but I am not a Pandav Sindhuraj. " Karn announced, but the moment he raised his bow, his eyes scrunched in confusion.
The day you need your knowledge the most, you will lose it. You will forget the knowledge you earned by deceit.
My ears echoed with his curse, the one he told me he feared the most.
"No! No! Not today! " He growled in anger, raising his bow yet his hands shook with fear.
" Jyeshth?" Saag looked at him in confusion before she glared ahead at Jaydrath.
" You may be able to stop the pandavs and their brother. But who will stop us? Our flame! Who dares to challenge the flames of Agnidev! " She shouted, raising her flames over the air, her anger truly reaching his potential as Devi and her sisters followed when a rumbling voice shook the earth.
"Me." The deep voice called, as if speaking from the depths of the flames, the place where it burns the lowest.
In front of all of us stood a reluctant Agnidev, who held his own wall of flame, his two heads simultaneously breathing fire out, enough to cover Devi and Saag's and their sister's.
"No! No! " Devi Vishwa screamed in anger, her flames rose higher and brighter but they stood no match for the origins of the same flame, which countered each one.
"Retreat. Retreat now! " Yudhishthir ordered. But just as they began to move back, " No! No tatshree. If we move back now we'll lose half our army! We cannot fall back!"
" What else do you propose son! We are at the end of the road! " Nakul shouted in anger, while fighting off soldiers.
" But i can go in! I know how to -"
"No! " His jyeshth mother yelled, anger bloomed in her eyes wider than any I'd seen before.
"Mata-"
" Absolutely not! You are not going in! My son will not walk into his grave on his own! I will not allow it. Fall back! " Sphulingini shouted, while the battlefield thundered with her anger.
" Sphulingini-" Kali began, but, " No! I don't care who says what. Who can fight who cannot fight. But my son will not enter. Not at all! " She shouted.
"But no one else knows the trick to break in Sphulingini! If Abhimanyu goes now, we can follow him! But if he doesn't, we'll lose nearly our entire army! " Sulo said, but Sphulingini yet again shook her head.
"No. I will not allow it. My son won't walk into his death -"
" You'd rather so many innocent soldiers die than allow your son to go in, when you can even follow him Sphulingini? " Agnidev's deep voice rumbled in the field again.
"I don't care if we get to go in! You won't allow us to use our flames! Abhimanyu cannot walk -"
"Jyeshth mata. " He whispered and she shook her head, tears streaming down her face, " I'll be fine mata. I'll be fine. " He whispered.
"No! No no! " Saag yelled, surprising me as well. " Who dared to order Agnidev himself! Agni isn't bound! Who dares to have him here-"
"My boon , 'kiddo'. "Ashwatthama's sly voice called, as he watched from the middle of the field.
" He's here on my boon. Today your flame won't be by your side. You cannot win. Today the pandav's will lose their entire might! " He laughed as Shakuni and Duryodhan joined in.
"Mata please! " Abhimanyu urged, watching as our armies grew smaller in size, their anhilation evident.
"No -" But before she could say anything, Abhimanyu charged ahead..
" Abhimanyu! By order of me, the Samrat! You must stop! You will not fight here! " Yudhishthir thundered, his voice full of anger but the young boy wouldn't stop.

" Abhi! " A pained voice shouted, as if completely broken and I looked up in fear.
"Madhav? Who's this, calling for my son? " I asked, my hands began to lose their strength, even as Susharman and his army lay dead.
" I wouldn't know Parth. We must find out. " He said, though his voice held a certain reservation. As if he knew.
"Madhav? Is-is my son dead? " I asked, frost filling my soul even at the thought of it.
Madhav remained silent, he wouldn't speak.
"Tell me Madhav! Has my son died! " I asked, blood curdling in my veins. My bow fell out of my hands into the chariot and that is when Madhav looked back.
"Pick up your bow Parth. The war isn't over yet. " He said sternly.
