Chapter 01
I closed the car door, staring at Beacon Hills Highschool. It hadn't changed one bit since the last time I'd been here, 11 years ago.
I was born in Beacon Hills and grew up here, but I had to move away when I was 6, leaving this town and my friends behind. Now, my parents just suddenly decided to move here again, so here I was. I was a bit miffed at my parents for moving back here, as they barely gave me a warning before I was forced to pack up all my stuff and leave. Dwelling on the past wouldn't change anything though, so it was best to focus on the future.
"Bye kiddo, have a good day," my dad, Ted, said through the car window.
"Bye Dad," I said, giving him a half-hearted smile. He wished me good luck before driving off, and I was left on my own, looking up at the school once again. Taking a deep breath, I walked up the steps and opened the doors to the school, my stomach a bundle of nerves. Hopefully everything would be fine.
Inside the school, kids were milling about, talking and laughing with one another. I walked through the halls until I found the office, where a kind lady gave me my timetable and locker combination.
I made it to my locker without any problems and started putting my books in my locker when I looked to the door and saw four kids about my age.
As soon as I saw the first boy who had black hair and brown eyes with olive brown skin, my world turned upside down. Literally.
All of a sudden, I wasn't in the school anymore. I was in fire. That was all I could see; a raging hot fire devouring everything.
I blinked, and I was back in school, staring at the boy as he talked to his friends. I blinked, again, not sure what to make of the strange encounter. What just happened? I decided to brush it aside and focused on the three other people instead.
The first girl had strawberry blonde hair and hazel eyes while the second one had brown hair with brown eyes. The last person, a boy, was turned with his back to me, so I couldn't see his face, but he had brown hair.
I thought about going up to them and introducing myself but chickened out and decided to instead find my classroom.
I left the four people and walked through the corridor, frowning and my timetable. Where was the history classroom?
I didn't notice the person walking towards me until I bumped into them, and I looked up to find a girl with black hair and brown eyes staring at me with a half-smile.
"Oh, I'm sorry I wasn't looking where I was going," I apologised, heat rushing to my face in embarrassment.
"It's fine," she said with a smile. "Do you need help finding your class?"
"Yes, thank you. I'm new here and have no idea where I'm going," I admitted shyly.
"Its okay. I only moved here a few weeks ago, so I'm pretty new too," the girl said. "My names Kira by the way."
"Y/n," I greeted, smiling.
"So, what class do you have?" Kira asked me.
"History," I said, and Kira's face brightened.
"That's the same as me. We can walk there together if you want," she said.
"That would be great," I said, following her as she led me to History class.
It was quiet for a bit before Kira spoke.
"My dad actually teaches the class," she said, looking at me hesitantly. "I'm not sure if that's cool or not."
I smiled at her in an attempt to soothe her nerves.
"I think is pretty cool, if I do say so myself," I told her, making Kira's smile widen as she continued to lead me to History class.
Once we got there, Kira took a seat in the very back, and I followed suit, eager to stay away from the curious stares the rest of the class gave.
As the bell went, the two boys I saw earlier walked in and sat near the front. I frowned in disappointment as I looked at the back of the second boy's head; I hadn't seen his face earlier and was hoping I'd see it in class, but to no such luck.
"Good morning everyone, my name is Mr Yukimura," a man said that must have been Kira's dad. "I'll be taking over for your previous history teacher. My family and I moved here three weeks ago. I'm sure by now you all know my daughter, Kira."
I saw Kira cringe as her name was mentioned, a blush rising to her cheeks. This was obviously not what she wanted.
"Or you might not since she's never mentioned anyone from school. Or brought home a friend for that matter."
Kira slumped her head onto her desk, embarrassment defeating her. In synchronisation, every head in the class turned to look at her, including the mysterious boy whose face I wasn't able to see until now.
Looking at the boy, I was shocked to find that I recognised him. His name was Stiles Stilinski, and we used to be best friends when we were younger before I moved away. Even after I moved away, we still texted each other frequently and called each other every night, until slowly we started to drift apart. The last time I texted him was a few years after his mum died, and we hadn't talked since.
I stared at him and watched as his gaze slowly slid to mine. Surprise and shock mingled in his eyes as he recognised me, and I resisted the urge to grin as his mouth hung open.
I smiled meekly at him before quickly averting my eyes to Mr Yukimura. I felt Stiles' gaze on me as I stared at the teacher, but when Mr Yukimura started talking he finally looked away from me, though he kept glancing my way throughout the class, as if thinking I'd disappear if he didn't look at me every 5 minutes.
When the bell finally rang for the end of class, Stiles was out of his chair and walking towards me before I'd even packed up my stuff.
"Hey," he greeted, a little breathlessly as he stared at me.
"Hi," I said shyly, looking at the books now in my hands as I stood up. Stiles had grown a lot since the last time I'd seen him and, to my dismay, was taller than me.
"I can't believe you're back," he said with a smile.
"Me neither," I stated. There was an awkward silence as we stood in the now empty classroom before I said, "walk and talk?"
"Definitely," he said with a grin, walking beside me as we left the classroom.
"So, how's Beacon Hills?" I asked as we walked.
"Crazy," Stiles said, before his eyes widened and he hastily added, "but, like, normal crazy. Nothing crazy, crazy or anything, just like, average crazy."
I laughed at his rant, happy that some things about him hadn't changed.
"Sounds crazy," I said, receiving a laugh from him.
"Yeah, it is," he said.
We continued chatting as we walked, talking about when I moved back to Beacon Hills and how happy our parents would be to see each other again. Stiles' mum and my mine used to be best friends; that's how we met in the first place.
"I missed you," Stiles said quietly as we walked. I looked at him and smiled.
"Me too," I said genuinely.
We arrived at my locker and agreed to talk later, and he left to go get his books for his next class. Once I'd gotton my stuff, I started walking, wondering if I could ask Kira to direct me to my next class when I spotted her and her dad walking down the hall talking.
"I thought you wanted to make friends," Mr Yukimura said to his daughter
"Not like that," Kira said.
"I thought you wanted to be noticed," He stated.
Kira stopped walking and turned towards her dad.
"I could set myself on fire and get noticed," she hissed.
"Well then you'd be dead," Mr Yukimura told her.
"Exactly," she muttered.
Her dad sighed, shaking his head tiredly.
"I just wanted to help," he told her.
"Well, I don't need you to. I already made a friend," Kira said, before looking into the crowd and spotting me.
She beckoned me over and I made my way through the crowd to get to her.
"Hello," I said with a smile. "My name's Y/n L/n."
Mr Yukimura's eyes widened slightly at the sound of my name, but his expression quickly changed to a kind smile.
"Nice to meet you Y/n," he said. "I'm Ken, though I suppose you have to call me Mr Yukimura."
"So, now that you know I have friends, please don't do that ever again," Kira said seriously.
"You have a friend," Mr Yukimura corrected, causing Kira to roll her eyes.
"Whatever, same thing," she told him.
Mr Yukimura chuckled, before checking his watch and bidding us a swift goodbye before leaving.
"So, we're friends?" I asked Kira with a smile.
"Oh, um, well I thought we were. It's totally okay if you don't want to be though- "
"No, no, I definitely want to be friends with you," I assured her, causing a smile to spread across her lips.
"Okay, um, cool," She said, her smile still on her face. "Do you want to go to next class with me?"
"Of course," I said, and linked our arms. Her smile widened at the action, and together we walked to our class.
