3.) Patrol
Night falls quickly as Echo moves around on her patrol. She glances at the time to read 8:30.
"Guess I should get some dinner."
She glides down onto the streets to an American sandwich shop. She went to America for some martial arts business and fell in love with Philly cheese steak wraps. She made sure to find a restaurant once she got back in Japan. She orders two to save one for tomorrow.
"Thank you, see you next time, Echo!" the cashier waves off.
She gives her a thankful nod and straps the two sandwiches on her back, the nanotech covering them to keep them in place. She makes her way back up to the roof and jumps across different building tops to one of the highest buildings to get a good view while she eats. A figure is already there observing the area.
Echo lands and walks up beside him. "Hey, Eraser."
He visibly startles as he turns to her. "Jeezus, Echo. You really weren't kidding. I didn't even hear you coming."
"Good," she responds, taking a seat next to him. "Have you eaten yet?"
"No."
"That's no good." She pulls out the two sandwiches wraps. "You ever had a Philly cheese melt?"
He shakes his head 'no.' "Did you just pull that out your back?"
"My suit is made of nanotech. So whatever I think for it to do, it'll do. The suit held it in place on my back. Anyway, you should try it. It's good." She hands the extra sandwich to him as her helmet vanishes.
He hesitantly takes it, pulling his goggles down to rest around his neck. "If I get food poisoning, I'll never forgive you."
"You won't. Even if you do, I probably will too. We'll struggle together," she laughs.
They both settle into a comfortable silence as they unwrap the sandwiches and eat. She watches his reaction as he eats, disappointed that he didn't show any.
He notices her glance and swallows his bite. "It's good."
She smiles then continues on her wrap. They eat in silence. About 10 minutes pass before she interrupts it as her thoughts are taking her over.
"Uh... I should... apologize for what I said earlier..." Echo mumbles embarrassed.
"What?"
"The... the sleeping bag thing... that was inappropriate and unprofessional... I'm sorry about that whole mess..." She awkwardly and shyly moves her hands in weird movements.
He watches her flustered gestures in amusement. "It's fine. It was... amusing. I'm just glad Hizashi or Nemuri weren't there or they'd tease us relentlessly."
Her face flushes and lets out an awkward chuckle. "Yeah, that's true. ...Wait, you thought it was amusing?" Her wide doe eyes look up at him in surprise.
He releases a short deep chuckle, surprising Echo. "Well, not really funny. More... your reaction to you figuring out what you said."
She slaps her cheeks, gazing anywhere but him. "That's so embarrassing! Eraserhead!"
Echo buries her face in her hands for a little bit as Eraser looks on slightly amused.
"I saw you during your class and how you took down all of them," Eraser speaks up. "It was impressive to watch."
"Oh, thanks! I will admit, Todoroki, Bakugo, and Kirishima were definitely the ones I had to think about how to take down. Being able to see them probably wouldn't have helped either."
"Being able to see?" Aizawa mutters confused. "I knew your quirk included echolocation, but you aren't blind, are you?"
She lets out a loud laugh. "No, no! I was proving a point to them. Martial arts isn't just about fighting, it's also about using your senses. So I had my eyes closed and didn't use my quirk."
Aizawa blinks. "Wow. That's embarrassing for them. I should expel them all."
"Stop that," she says, jokingly slapping his arm. "They're all pretty good so far. Though I am confused about how the score for the entrance exam works. Four of the top ten kids are in 1-B."
"I couldn't tell you. That's all up to Nezu."
"I don't understand the invisible girl, Hagakure. She would make more sense in 1-B along with Mineta. Shiozaki and Kendo would be better."
"We'll have to see how they improve. If they don't, expulsion or they will be traded out to class B next year," Aizawa answers.
"Yeah, that makes sense," Echo says.
"I noticed you took more time to take down Ojiro, the boy with the tail."
"Ah, Mashi-chan!"
"Mashi-chan? A little too familiar there?"
"Ah! No!" She quickly moves her hands back and forth in a shakey motion. "It's not something weird! I've... known him since he was born. Our parents work together. My parents helped his parents build their dojo, so he's kinda like a baby brother." She thinks as she takes a bite of her food.
"Oh? Sounds like you're going to tease him."
Echo smirks with a nod of her head as her mouth is full of food.
They remain silent to continue and finish eating. He finishes his melt and bundles the trash into a ball. Echo holds her hand out for the trash. He looks at her confused before placing the trash into her hand. Her suit seemingly swallows it. She does the same with her trash.
"It stores away into my suit until I'm able to dispense it," she says, seeing his mildly confused face.
"We should get back to patrolling," he says, standing up grabbing his scarf.
"Wanna patrol together?" Echo suggests.
"I appreciate the thought, but I like to work alone."
"I can understand that," Echo nods. "But I will continue to ask until you say yes. Till next time, Eraserhead." Her suit's wings spread out from under her arms and between her legs. She salutes before jumping and gliding through the city.
"See ya," he whispers into the wind though she obviously still hears it given her quirk.
She stops a few crimes before finally heading back to her penthouse at 1 am. She enters and releases her suit. It stores itself into her bracelets which she promptly takes off and sets on the counter. The trash from earlier was already thrown away, so it wasn't still stored in her suit. She takes a shower, gets into pjs, plays on her phone a bit before finally falling asleep.
