8.) Miruko Agency First Internship

Maki had to meet Miruko at the train station in her city. The heroine doesn't have her own agency, preferring to work alone. She'll get the call if she's needed, but she's usually out and about anyway.

The only reason she's interning Maki is because she owes Maki's parents. So no more debts owed.

Miruko is based in Fukuoka which is about 11 hours away from UA. It was a long trip, and Maki is still groggy from sleep.

She sluggishly pulls her luggage, keeping her eyes closed as she maneuvers around people with her quirk. The soles of most of her shoes have been ripped out, so it just looks like she's wearing shoes.

Maki senses a very buff, impatient woman ahead feeling the long bunny ears and each tap of her foot thumping against the ground. She peeks her eyes open just enough to make sure it's Miruko before shuffling over to her.

Miruko turns with a small smile as Maki walks up to her. "You must be Maki. I can tell from the hair colors. Listen here. I'm only doing this to repay a favor and because you won the sports festival. I don't wanna do this. Remember that I work alone." She sighs, uncrossing her arms. "We're heading to my place to get in uniform then go patrol. Keep up." She starts walking towards the exit.

"Hai, sensei." Maki nods, reclosing her tired eyes and following after.

They make their way across the city to the pro's penthouse. Maki opens her eyes and looks up at the tall building they're standing in front of.

"Alright, kid. So, here's the deal," Miruko says once they arrive in front of a complex. "My apartment is on the very top floor. There's no way to enter it from the building. I don't have a front door, so the only way in is from the balcony. I don't like people disturbing me. Here's your first test, figure out how to get up there by yourself." Miruko turns at the feel of a push of air, looking up to see her new intern already on the balcony, waving down at her. She places her hands on her hips with a smirk. "Not bad." She jumps up after.

"What took ya so long?" Maki grins.

"Alright, alright. Follow me," Miruko says, leading the girl inside after unlocking the door and taking her to a room. "This is my guest room. If you find any red feathers give them to me." She smirks, an evil expression forming across her features. "I'll show you what to do with them later. Hawks sleeps here sometimes. I hate when he leaves his feathers." She rolls her eyes in annoyance. "Get your suit on and meet me back in the living room in 5 minutes."

Maki salutes. "Aye!"

Miruko nods approvingly, heading off to her room.

Maki flips open the lid of the suitcase for her hero suit, quickly getting it on and meeting Miruko in the living room.

Miruko looks her up and down. "Like the outfit." She takes in the girl's muscles. "I'm impressed. You're just as muscled as me." She holds her arm out beside Maki's own. "And almost as dark. You must be outside getting a lot of sun like I do."

"Yes, to better my quirk, I work outside on my own personal training field," Maki nods.

She looks down at Maki's bare feet. "No shoes?"

"Better to not have any."

Miruko shrugs, gesturing towards the door they came through. "Patrol, but don't blame me if you cut your foot on something."

They exit onto the balcony.

"I won't."

"Good cause you'll be patching yourself up if you do," she responds, locking the door behind them. "Keep up."

"No problem."

And keep up Maki did. So much so, she was in front of Miruko more than 98% of the time.

It made Miruko both proud and really annoyed.

Nothing interesting really happens besides a small car chase that Maki easily stopped with her earth quirk.

"Kid! Let's go eat lunch!" Miruko calls out.

She leads them to a little hole in the wall, sitting them outside after waving down a waitress.

Maki sits, leaning back in the chair with her eyes closed. She crosses her arms while her eyebrows furrow. She takes a deep breath and sighs, blowing out a breath of air. "Phooew." The napkins on the table blow off into Miruko's lap.

"Ya look like you're thinking real hard there," Miruko says, picking up the napkins and placing them back on the table. "What's up?"

"Yeah, my... friend is working with his father for this internship, and I'm not around to save him this time. I... don't think we've ever been apart this long. Well, once the week is over at least. I'm just... worried about him."

"You're talking about Endeavor's kid, right? The two of you worked together during the festival. Good pair. He'll be alright. He's a strong boy from what I've seen."

The waitress comes and gets their orders before they continue.

"I know..."

"Ah, right, have you come up with a hero name yet?"

"Seismic Cyclone," Maki answers in English. Cyclone was pronounced basically the same in both Japanese and English. Seismic wasn't. She wanted the repetitive sound.

"Sei-Cy!" Miruko grins.

Maki blinks then chuckles with an amused nod. "Yes."

...

"Alright, kid," Miruko says, hands on her hips. "You've got a lot of energy and a crazy powerful quirk. And you know exactly how to use it. A little too much reliability on it. Today we're tussling. No quirks. Got it?"

Maki salutes. "Aye!"

For the last two days, Miruko has been taking them out on patrol. Nothing interesting but a few purse snatchers, bullies, and one bank robbery.

Miruko decided to switch it up today, taking Maki to a gym. A gym designed for intense combat/quirk training. Thick durable pads surround every surface of the gym. Miruko rented out the large gym area for the rest of the week.

Miruko smirks before she lunges, right foot first, heading straight at Maki's chest.

Maki squeaks and quickly pushes herself out of the way with her wind.

"Oi! I said not to use your quirk!" Miruko scolds.

"Heh... sorry force of habit..."

Miruko sighs. "You gotta get your speed up without the use of your air. You're built like a tank. Use it."

"Hai." Maki closes her eyes, taking a deep breath before releasing it. She opens her eyes as a rush of air leaves her body.

Miruko's eyes narrow, feeling the change in her aura. Her animal instinct would see this person as someone completely new if she didn't see the change with her own two eyes. It makes her pause, kicking in her fight or flight. It takes everything in her to keep herself from running away like her senses are telling her to.

Maki's eyes become slits, narrowing onto Miruko before she vanishes from view.

"Shiit!" Miruko swears, quickly lifting her arms to the left of her head to block the kick coming her way.

The resulting sound was like that of an explosion. It echoes throughout the gym as the floor shakes and gusts of wind blow from the intensity of the collision.

Maki grins, pulling herself away and vanishing again.

Miruko grunts. Kid's a lot stronger than anticipated. She was forced back, having to dig her feet into the ground to keep herself from being thrown back. She smirks. Didn't think she'd be able to go all out on her from the get-go. She likely has a giant bruise on her cheek now. Stings as much as her now bruised arms. Kid has power.

The resulting battle had the gym rattled and the two women covered in dark red spots turning blue.

Miruko was eventually the one who came out on top but only by a hair. She does have more experience, but damn do Maki's parents know what they're doing. The girl wasn't even using her quirk. She shutters. This girl. Society should be grateful that she's on their side. She's absolutely terrifying.

~~~
Miruko decided they had enough for the day and to go clean up before heading out to eat.
The two girls land on Miruko's balcony. Maki pauses, grabbing the pro's arm. "Wait, there's somebody inside."
Miruko notices a few red feathers on the ground and heads inside. Her ears twitch, hearing the familiar movement inside. "Don't worry. It's just Hawks."
"Hawks?" She mutters, following behind her.
"A little feather told me that somebody was in my room." Hawks perks up from his spot on the couch. A single tiny red feather is being spun between his fingers.
"What're you doing here, Hawks?" Miruko groans annoyed, smacking his forehead. "And dammit I told you to stop leaving your feathers behind!"
"Oww! Oww..." His eyes catch Maki's movement behind her, shoving the rabbit hero aside. "Oh, are you actually interning someone?" His eyes widen, recognizing her then looks back to Miruko. "Wow, who are you and what'd you do with my favorite rabbit hero?"
"Ha. Ha. Very funny," she eye-rolls. "I owed her parents a favor."
"Tokoyami?" Maki mumbles once she realizes she senses his body through her feet.
Hawks manages to catch what she said. "You know my little bird?"
She perks up. "Yeah! He's in my class!"
He snaps his fingers. "Ah, you're the dimension girl with Endeavor's kid and the sports festival winner!"
"Hawks, what do you want?" Miruko huffs, cutting straight to the point. She leans against the edge of the couch with her hip.
"Well, I'm in town. Figured I'd crash here like usual."
"Find somewhere else. Your room is obviously taken."
His feathers puff as a mischievous idea forms and smiles. "That's fine! I can just sleep with you!"
"No way in hell!" She furrows her eyebrows.
"Ah, it'll be like back when we were old schoolmates. Oh, and we can patrol together with our interns!"
Tokoyami makes his way into the living room, spotting the two women. "Miruko..." He nods his head, acknowledging her in respect. When he looks back up his eyes grow, seeing his previously missing classmate. "Iwase! You're okay!"
Maki grins, salute waving. "Yeah! All good! Just went to a different universe is all."
"Different universe!?" Tokoyami shouts, eyes bulging out.
"Yeah! I got pictures!" she pulls her phone out and pulls up the pictures to show him.
"See then they can share a bed too," Hawks shrugs, seeing how close they seem to be. "Everything works out."
Maki squeaks, shoulders rising in alarm. "No!"
He looks at her. "My intern won't do anything to you, would ya Tsuko?"
"Absolutely not. But–"
"See?"
"It's-It's not because I don't trust him!" Maki stutters, face flushed. "I-I-It'd be wrong. I can't! I'm not allowed to!"
"Can't sleep with a boy?" Hawks chuckles. "I won't tell your parents."
"That's not the problem!" Maki huffs. "It'd-It'd be infidelity!"
Hawks chuckles, sensing the problem. "That's only if you partake in the sexual part. Besides, that's for if you're in a relationship. Are you?"
"Well... not exactly... Not yet!"
"Then what's the problem?" He's gonna force out the answer one way or another.
"Hawks, I'm not consenting to this," Tokoyami huffs, crossing his arms. "Neither of us are comfortable with the idea."
Maki flushes and puffs her cheeks, facing the floor. She mumbles.
"If she doesn't want to share a bed then that should be that," Miruko says, crossing her arms. "She doesn't need a reason. Besides you're not staying here."
"What? Couldn't hear ya, kid?" Hawks says, ignoring the rabbit hero.
"I'm-I'm engaged! It's wrong to sleep with anyone else!" Maki forces out. She widens her eyes and covers her mouth, glancing at Tokoyami.
All three of them now have their eyes blown wide. "Engaged?!"
"You're 15!" Miruko shouts.
"That son of a bitch," Hawks scoff laughs in an unamused way. "Had a feeling it was something like that. You're okay with being in an arranged marriage?"
"Yeah, I've always loved him," she admits with no hesitation.
Hawks smirks. "Well then." He sighs and shrugs, turning to the balcony. "I guess that's that. Come on, kid. We gotta find a hotel tonight."
"Wait!" Maki shouts, grabbing Tokoyami's arm. "Don't tell anyone about my engagement."
The bird boy gulps at the use of her scary voice and nods. "My lips are sealed."
"Thanks."
"Rumi, let's head out to eat after we find a place to crash," Hawks says. "I'll text ya."
The rabbit girl sighs. "Sounds good."
~~~

Halfway through dinner, Maki's phone goes off. She looks at the screen to read that her mother is calling.

She answers the phone. "Moshi moshi?"

"Hun, did you get any news from Shoto?"

"Huh? No why? Is something wrong?" Maki's tone grabs the attention of the three others at the table.

"He was in an attack with the hero killer and Nomu's. He's currently in Hosu General Hospital getting looked over."

"Hero killer?! Is he okay?!"

That makes everyone perk up, pulling out their phones.

"He's fine, hun. Just a few shallow puncture wounds and cuts. He's perfectly fine. Some of your classmates were also there. That cute fluffy green-haired boy we met and Ingenium's younger brother. They got more injured than Shoto, but they'll be fine as well."

"I'm on my way," Maki says.

"No, he'll be okay. You need to stay for your internship."

Maki determinedly looks to her mentor. "We're heading to Hosu."

Miruko was already aware, getting news reports from her phone. "Not gonna disagree with ya there. Already decided that when she brought up nomus. We can do some investigative training."

Sora's sigh is heard through the phone. "Seems you've already made up your mind. Love you, sweetie. We miss you. See you soon. Mwah."

"Mwah," Maki kisses back before hanging up.

"You coming with?" Miruko looks to Hawks.

"Nah, seems there's enough heroes on it," he casually responds. "Besides, Tsukuyomi and I got some more training to do." He ruffles the top of Maki's head. "Maybe next time we can all patrol together."

"Yeah!"

...

They took an airplane the next morning to get to Hosu. Took around 2 and a half hours total. Miruko dropped Maki off at the hospital while she went and found a place for them to stay the day.

She heads to the front desk. "I'm here to see Todoroki Shoto."

The lady looks his name up before replying. "Sorry, he's not able to take visi–"

Maki's eyes become slits as she glares at the woman. The woman nervously swallows.

She stomps on the floor to allow herself to get a layout of the whole building. "He is my fiancé. I'm the daughter of Earthquake and Tornado. One way or another, I will be seeing him now."

"R-Room 407..."

Maki nods, grabbing a pass and making her way to where she feels her beloved and her other two classmates. She bursts in, scaring them as she rushes up to Shoto, and collapses in his arms.

"I-Iwase?!" Izuku and Iida shout surprised.

Maki sniffles with tears in her eyes as she looks up at Shoto. "I was so worried! Why didn't you message or call me?! When mom called me and told me what happened my heart about stopped!" She lightly grabs his face assessing the damage. "Don't do this to me again!"

Shoto places his good arm's hand atop her head. "I'm okay. I'm sorry for worrying you. I should've messaged you. I wasn't thinking about it because it's a small wound."

Her lip quivers as she shoves her face into his stomach, wrapping her arms around his middle.

Iida and Izuku embarrassingly look away like they're intruding on them.

She pulls herself onto the bed, snuggling up next to him and leaning her head on his shoulder. She wraps herself around his uninjured arm as she calms herself down. "Izu, when you sent your location, is that what it was for?"

He scrunches his shoulders with an unreadable look on his now red face at the use of a nickname. "Ye-Yeah..."

"I'm sorry."

"I-I-I-It's okay! You were too far away to get here anyway! I'm-I'm just glad that everyone is okay!"

She looks over the greenet and frowns. "You're hurt. Both of you. Iida, you're–"

He gives her a tired smile. "I'll be alright."

"I'm glad that you're alright too," Izuku says. "We were surprised when Todoroki showed up. We didn't know the two of you were back."

"Yeah, we went to another universe!" she grins. "It was super fun! We met Sho's twin!" She pulls out her phone. "Let me show you!"

"A different universe... I still can't believe that," Iida says. "Remarkable."

"I realized that Todoroki, you have much better control over your flames. I figured it was because of your internship but then you explained more about the world of bending. It seems that the trip was good for you," Izuku rambles. "It's crazy that everything is centered around four elements and–"

Maki smiles as they all listen to his rambles and theories. She tucks her phone away, knowing she's not going to be able to show pictures with all his talking. She'll show them later.

Shoto looks down at Maki with a small smile. She came all the way from her internship just to see him. He's happy. For now at least. He realizes that she makes him happier. His eyes catch the few bruises on her arms.

"What happened to your arms?" he whispers.

She leans her head back to look up at him. "Training with Miruko. She's tough! I also met Hawks! He's super cool! And Tokoyami is interning with him, so we were able to hang out too! Also, I think Hawks has a crush on Miruko." She scrunches her face. "Or maybe not. Can't really tell."

"Crush her?"

Maki chuckles. "No like he like likes her. Like, would date her."

"Oh." He shrugs not really getting the whole dating thing. Why would he? It's already been decided who he's going to be with.

Iida eventually interrupts Izuku's rambling, breaking him out of it and focusing his attention on the couple. "Todoroki said that you were interning with Miruko. How's she?"

"I've been having a lot of fun! She's showing me a good amount of attacks using the legs." She winces as she moves awkwardly. "A pinch sore now. But, what about you guys? I'm gonna need to know the details of what happened."

"Endeavor took Stain down," Iida is quick to say.

"We took down Stain," Shoto corrects.

"Todoroki! We aren't supposed to talk about it!" Iida exclaims. His arms would definitely be chopping if he was able. They can all see the phantom motions as if they were going at it.

"I'll hide info from the rest of our classmates, but I'm not hiding anything from Maki," Shoto sternly replies. "I don't care what that damn mutt said."

Izuku squeaks. "Todoroki!"

Maki chuckles, having never really heard him cuss before. She bites her lip from letting herself burst out laughing at Izuku's startled face.

Then Shoto continues, telling her the whole story with the other two adding in their own stories.

Maki buries her nose in Shoto's neck, squeezing him a little tighter. "I'm glad that you're okay."

Izuku awkwardly clears his throat, looking between the couple. "I've... been meaning to ask... It's okay if you don't want to answer! I've... just been curious... Todoroki... ever since you brought up how your parents got together... Are the two of you also–?"

"Yes," Shoto cuts him off then sighs.

Maki sits up. "Sho! I thought we weren't going to say anything?!"

"He figured it out." He shrugs.

"Uhh... am I missing something?" Iida speaks up confused.

"Wait! Really?! You two are–?"

"Yes."

Izu's mouth drops open. Eyes as wide as saucers. "Whoa! Seriously?!"

"Ever since we were born," Maki says. "Our parents arranged it. Don't tell anyone."

"We'd like to keep it a secret. We don't want the class to lose focus," Shoto says.

"Ah, right." Izuku nods in understanding. "But still! It's just kinda weird to think about my two classmates."

Iida just looks on confused. He sighs, giving up.

"Ah, Tokoyami also knows..." Maki sheepishly admits. "I accidentally blabbed it. It's Hawks' fault really."

"Ok."

The door is thrown open. "Oi, kid. Ya done coddling your mate? Found us a place to stay." Miruko walks in in all her hero glory. "You're still under my internship which means no dilly-dallying." Her attention zones in on her intern then on the boy beside her. "You must be him. You don't look injured at all. Must be a real baby." She looks to Iida and Izuku. "Now those are injuries."

Izuku's eyes are wide and shiny. "You're Miruko! Can I have an autograph?!" He pulls out his notebook from who knows where and holds it out to her with her info page. His whole fanboy body vibrating with excitement.

She grins, swiping the notebook to read. "Wow, kid. You really know your stuff." She takes the pen in the spine of the notebook and signs it. "Superhero fanboy, huh?" He gives a lot of nods as she hands it back to him. He giggles as she chuckles. "Cute. I like you. Sei-Cy, let's go!"

Maki gets up. "Hai."

Miruko starts down the hall.

"Sai sai?"

"Short for Seismic Cyclone," Maki answers Iida. "My hero name."

"That's right! You guys weren't here for hero names!" Izuku says, momentarily breaking out of whatever trance he was in. "That fits!"

"I agree. I like it," Iida nods.

"Thanks, guys!" Maki flushes. "Sho, what did you go with?"

"Shoto."

"Sho! That's so boring!" She pouts. "You gotta come up with something better."

"I don't know why yo–"

"Because I don't want everyone to get to call you by your first name!" She puffs her cheeks and crosses her arms. "Only me..."

Shoto furrows his brows confused.

Miruko leans her head into the room. "Kid! Come on! We're going on a run!"

Maki gives the other two boys hugs before squeezing Sho. "You guys heal up and stay outta trouble. See ya back at school!" She leaves with a wave and a smile before disappearing behind the doors.

Shoto watches her leave then frowns, looking to his lap. "I don't understand..." he mumbles after she's gone.

Izuku looks over at him. "Todoroki, I think it's because only people really close to you call you by your first name. She won't feel special if everyone gets to call you Shoto."

"She usually calls me Sho though..."

Izuku sweat drops. "I-I agree with her though. Shoto isn't a good hero name... Bland really..."

"What do you recommend then?"

"Well..."

~~~
"Oi! No quirks!" Miruko shouts out from behind Maki.
Maki slows herself down to let the rabbit hero catch up. "Oops. Sorry."
She huffs, breathing a bit heavily. "Honestly, I feel like I don't have anything to teach you. You honestly just need experience at this point. You should focus on more styles of martial arts. You'd be unstoppable."
Maki looks bashful. "A-Arigato..."
"I detected some judo and jujutsu," Miruko says. "Any others?"
"Aikido."
"What about kendo? Or any weapon-based martial arts?" She grins as Maki shakes her head. "Great. We'll be doing that today then!"
~~~

"Change of plans," Miruko says, walking into Maki's room with her phone in hand.

Miruko got a hotel room with connected rooms in the undamaged part of Hosu. After their run, they returned to the hotel for a quick shower. The plan was to go find a place to practice with swords.

"Huh?"

Miruko tosses her phone to Maki. "Got a job for us. Drug bust. Way below my pay grade, but a good starting mission for you."

Maki reads the text on the screen, absorbing all the details. "When we heading out?"

"2 hours once night falls," she answers, catching her phone as Maki throws it back. "So, I'll do a quick prep for how we're going to do this."

~~~
An unfinished hotel that was abandoned because of a lack of funds. That's where the villains have decided to make their hideout.
The hotel goes straight up with rooms around the outsides. You can see straight to the top from the bottom and reverse-wise.
Miruko and Maki started up from the roof, making their way down while silently taking down any lackies.
On the bottom floor is where they're making the drug. Instead of what would be a hotel lobby, looks more like a small laboratory.
"Hurry and get everything packaged. We need to be outta here in the next ten minutes!" the supposed leader shouts. He's currently getting patched up from what looks like having blood drawn.
Large canisters of green gas surround the villains. Each canister being lifted to be loaded into trucks.
"Alright, Seismic Cyclone," Miruko comes in on their earpieces. "I want you to block all exits. Now."
Maki stomps on the ground, blocking off every possible exit except the roof. "Done."
"The gas canisters. They're full of the leader's quirk. They call the gas Trigger. But the guy's quirk is pure stuff and not altered to be as bad as it could be. It's technically not Trigger yet. His quirk basically makes a quirk more of itself. Surround each canister, so we don't have any accidents. We attack right after."
Maki stomps again, gathering everyone's attention in confusion as the canisters start to be covered with the floor.
"We're under attack!"
"Hell yeah, you are!" Miruko shouts, jumping over the ledge straight onto the nearest criminal.
Maki jumps over, blasting everyone back with air.
The leader stands up as if nothing around him is wrong. He looks from Miruko to Maki, deciding that Maki would be Miruko's weakness. He starts to make his way in her direction.
Maki cackles menacingly, turning and giving the leader the full view of her wicked face. He pauses, feeling like all the confidence in him was flushed out. His instincts were telling him to immediately blast her with the full force of his gas. So he unconsciously follows through with it.
"Seis! Watch out!" Miruko shouts, rushing towards them.
Maki brings up a wall to block the blast as Miruko plows through the leader.
"It's a shame, little bunny," leader chuckles, coughing hard from the initial kick she gave him. "There's quite a few ways... to use my quirk. Not just from my blood or gas." He reaches around and grabs her bare leg. "But by skin contact too."
Miruko grunts, kicking the man unconscious as she keels over.
"Miruko!" Maki shouts, stomping and dragging everyone into the ground up to their heads. She rushes over to Miruko.
"Get-Get back kid! I-I don't wanna hurt ya!" She shouts, groaning in pain.
"What's happening?!"
"The drug increases a quirk user's quirk to the uncontrollable extreme!" a lackey provides with a laugh.
Maki contemplates her next move before deciding to wrap Miruko in rock until she calms down. What she wasn't expecting was for the hero to shrink and disappear, leaving her hero suit behind. She's quick to sense the small body tangled in the clothes. Maki kneels to move aside the clothes to reveal a small fluffy rabbit.
"Uh, oh." Maki sighs. "I knew he was coming. You didn't have to protect me." She cradles the small brown and white spotted rabbit. She looks around at all the struggling villains and covers all their mouths, so she doesn't have to hear their complaints anymore. She squishes Miruko's cheeks. "So cute!"
Maki takes down all the earth walls to let the police she sensed outside inside.
She gave them the laydown of what happened.
"And that's pro hero Miruko?"
"Yeah. Her clothes are where I found this bunny after being hit by the leader guy."
"You're interning under her from UA?"
"Yes."
The policeman sighs, bringing a hand to his head. "I'd recommend heading back to her house to get her settled. From what we know about his quirk, if it didn't kill the person, the effects should wear off in a few hours. Sorry about your internship."
Maki shrugs. "I only had a day left."
"You need an escort?"
"No. I'll be able to manage getting her home."
After half an hour of explanations and proof, Maki is on the train with actual rabbit Miruko back to her city with all their stuff.
She decides to message Tokoyami to tell Hawks about the situation. An unknown number later messages her saying it was Hawks and the two were gonna meet her at Miruko's apartment.
Maki was dressed back in civvies, wearing a hoodie backward to have Miruko snuggle down into the hood. She's currently sleeping after having her fill of kale.
Hawks and Tokoyami make it to the penthouse before the girls do. They were already inside as Hawks has a key.
Hawks is immediately in front of Maki. "Let me see the fluff ball!"
Maki chuckles, scooping Miruko out of the hood into Hawks' waiting hands. "She's sleeping."
"She's so cute!" Hawks squeaks, softly petting her head. "She would absolutely kill me if she heard me say that."
"So what are we going to do with her?" Tokoyami asks.
"We're going to get Galaxy to watch her. Iwase on the other hand is going to join us for the last internship day," Hawks grins. "You can fly, right? Like your mother?"
Maki nods. "I can."
"Perfect. We'll go out on a night flight patrol."
It's about half an hour before a portal appears in the living room and Galaxy walks through. "Oh my! So cute!" She zips up to Hawks, scooping Miruko into her hands. Another portal opens and the two disappear.
"Well, that's settled let's head out before burrowing away for the night," Hawks grins.
Tokoyami groans as Maki chuckles.
...
The next day, Hawks wakes the two and decides that they're going to do something different.
"We're not patrolling?" Tokoyami asks as he arrives in Miruko's living room.
Maki slept in her room while Hawks took Miruko's room and Tokoyami took the couch.
"Yeahhh... I forgot that I had to do this today..." He awkwardly rubs the back of his head. "But cool thing... You two get to join me!"
"Still don't know what this thing is you're talking about."
"Trust me! You'll love it."
"That's what worries me."
~~~

"Absolutely not."

"Oh, come on Toko," Hawks pleads with a laugh. "Maki is on board."

"I am not Maki nor do I have either of your looks."

"Don't say that! You're a good-looking guy!"

"I have a bird head."

"There are plenty of other bird quirk users, and I imagine a bunch of them would find you attractive." He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively.

An eye roll. "I said no."

"And I'm not taking that as an answer."

Apparently, the thing that Hawks had to do was a modeling shoot. Maki was totally on board to have photos taken. She's done a few before with her parents. Hawks' mischievous self is also interested in seeing how her parents plus Endeavor react to it. He also wanted to mess with his intern.

"Come on, it'll get you popular with the laaadiesss."

"I don't enjoy the attention."

"That's a lie!" Shado pops out sneakily.

(Bc I'm lazy I'm calling Dark Shadow just Shado bc Dāku Shadō is the Japanese pronunciation, and I don't feel like typing Dark Shadow every time.)

"Shado!"

"Was about to say the same thing," Maki says as Shado wraps around her. She giggles and lightly pets Shado's head who coos and curls into her hand.

Hawks looks at her. "You can tell when people are lying?"

"Yep, by the vibrations of the heart." Maki shows him the bottom of her shoes to be open. "I can basically see with my feet."

"Like your father," Hawks says with a finger snap. "Seismic sense, right?"

"Hawks?" a worker calls out, knocking on the door to the room. "Makeup is ready to come set up. Have you gotten your interns to agree?"

Hawks sighs. "Let them in."

Tokoyami does end up taking photos only because Shado forced/wanted him to.

...

Today was the day the UA students would be returning to school.

The quirk on Miruko wore off, so she was able to see Maki off. Hawks was also there to wave his intern off.

"Well, kid. Sorry about having to skip out on our last day," Miruko sighs. "I was actually having a good time mentoring you. I still like to be solo, but we'll see if I can get you back for another internship later."

"If not, I'll steal you!" Hawks butts in, leaning on Miruko's shoulder which she promptly shoves off and making him stumble. He catches himself with a chuckle. "You're tons of fun. Maybe next time we can tussle, so I can see how terrifying you really are like Tokoya–"

Tokoyami quickly cuts him off with Shado covering his mouth. Tokoyami sheepishly looks away. Maki doesn't need to know he thinks she's scary.

Maki blinks, tilting her head in confusion at the scene. "Alright! You're on!" The two clasped hands with mischievous big grins spread across their cheeks.

Miruko and Tokoyami nervously gulp, pushing the two away from each other.

The train horn chimes off as a last warning to get on.

"We should go," Tokoyami says. He bows. "Thank you for everything you taught me."

Hawks ruffles the top of his intern's head. "I'll see you next time."

Maki moves quick, so Miruko can't dodge, to give her a hug. "I had a lot of fun! Thanks!" Then she's on the train before Miruko can blink.

Miruko then grins. "Speedy little shit."

"Got a picture of that!" Hawks waves his phone around.

"Delete it!"

The two interns watch the two tussle from their seats by the window; Maki laughing and Tokoyami sighing.

"I can't wait to see everyone again! I missed them!" Maki says, seat shaking beneath her from her excitement.
