Chapter 98) The Future Is Now
Many months have passed ever since we had our first visit to the OB-GYN. Ashley and I have grown more closer than before when it came to us approaching to the birth of our child. We had a mini baby shower and it turned out we were having a little boy, and everyone celebrated with us for hours on end.
After the baby shower, I had to return to the ring a few days later and focus on the Universal Championship against Brock. Needless to say that I lost my WWE World Heavyweight Championship a few months ago, but now I'm moving onto something bigger and better and with a son on the way in two months. Ashley was due about a week after SummerSlam, and I was more determined to bring home the championship and to provide for the family.
SummerSlam 2018
Ashley and my family decided on sitting at ringside to support me during my match for the championship. I was standing near the gorilla and waiting for my match against Brock Lesnar until I felt small taps against my shoulder.
"Rome, how are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling great, Ambrose." I huffed. "I just hope that I can win this tonight for my wife and for our unborn son."
"I never thought I'd see the day where my best friend would be nervous during a match. You weren't this way when you faced Brock a couple of years ago at WrestleMania."
"I mean, I was a different man back then."
I grew silent with my hand gently tugging at the pitch black curtains in front of me, waiting for my cue to make my way down to the ring.
"I have a wife now and a child on the way. I'm doing this especially for them."
"I understand, Rome." Ambrose smiled, "You're gonna be an amazing father."
"Roman Reigns to the gorilla!"
"Thanks, man. I'll see you after my match." I grinned.
I made my way out to the ring and waited for Brock to make his entrance with Paul accompanying next to him.
The moment Brock made his way down to the ring, I locked my eyes onto him and he did the same.
"Take a look at Roman Reigns. Never taking his eyes off of the Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar. Nor is the beast breaking his stare at Roman Reigns. Brock knows he's ready for a fight." A random person said on commentary.
"Do you actually believe that you're going to beat me tonight?" Brock laughed.
"You're not gonna be laughing once I beat your ass and take that championship off your shoulders tonight. I've done it once, and I can sure as hell do it again."
"Not a chance."
Braun Strowman interrupted our stared down with the Money in the Bank briefcase in his grasp.
"Everybody knows the history of this Money in the Bank contract; and I refuse to be a coward and cash it in when my opponent's back is turned."
The crowd began to cheer.
"I am the Monster Among Men, and I do things face-to-face! So good luck to you, Roman. And good luck to you too, Beastie-Boy. Because I'm gonna be standing right here this entire match, and I don't give a damn who wins because at the end of the night, one of you two is gonna get these hands!"
The match started and I quickly threw Superman Punches right and left across Brock's face. Brock began giving me F5's after F5's. Suplexes after Suplexes. No matter how many times Brock continued to perform his moves on me, I always kicked out at two.
Brock then started to attack Braun with a steel chair and slowly brought it into the ring. With Brock being distracted with Braun, I prepared for a Spear and won by pinfall.
The arena exploded and I was genuinely shocked as the referee handed me the Universal Championship. I looked down at it with widened eyes as I held my newly won title. I shouted in excitement. "Let's go!"
Heading backstage, I watched Ashley charge towards me and gently pulled me into a hug while Ambrose, Renee, my family, and our friends celebrating my victory with me. This moment was surreal, and I never expected to become the champion just a week before my son was born into this world.
Suddenly, I heard Ashley beginning to scream in pain and attempting to catch her breath.
"Are you okay, baby?" I asked.
"My water just broke!"
Everyone stopped celebrating and immediately went into a panic to rush Ashley to the nearest hospital.
"We need to get her to the hospital, now!" I shouted.
Ambrose and I rushed Ashley into the ambulance that was near the arena and made our way to the hospital. They placed her into a wheelchair and given her small breathing exercises on the way.
"You're going to do amazing, Ashley." Ambrose said in attempt to comfort her.
"She wasn't supposed to be due for another week." I said.
When we made it into the hospital, the nurses quickly hooked an IV into her arm and made sure that she was ready to have our child as she was currently in labor. Overnight, she was still in labor. I refused to leave her bedside with my hand holding onto hers as she continued to have one contraction after another. Ashley was experiencing multiple pains and she was clutching on the railing of the hospital bed. The pain looked unbearable.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I'll be just fine. I just want to get this over with already."
I nodded.
Hours went by and thankfully Shane broke the news to the WWE Universe that I was unable to appear on Raw due to the birth of my son. I simply refused to leave her side. The nurses rushed in and checked on her vitals, making sure that she was ready for delivery.
Ambrose, Renee, and Eva made their way into the hospital room and shown a look of concern on their faces.
"Is she going to be okay?"
"Yeah. We're just waiting for the nurses to come back so they can help Ashley have the baby."
"That's a relief. I'm wishing you the best of luck, Ashley. You're already a strong woman for everything that you've been through and I know you can get through this too." Ambrose said.
"You're gonna do just fine, babe." Eva said with a smile.
The nurses came into the room and demanded for everyone to leave except for me.
"Alright, Mrs. Anoa'i. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly."
Minutes passed and she struggled to deliver our son. I was beginning to grow worried that something was wrong.
"Is everything alright?"
"Yes. She's just struggling to push."
"Come on, baby." I said with my hand in hers. "You can do this. I believe in you!"
Ashley proceeded to scream in pure agony. She continued to push until we heard the sound of a baby crying.
He was finally here.
The nurses cleaned him up and wrapped him into a blanket, allowing me to hold my son for the first time in my arms while Ashley took a moment to recuperate.
"Hello, champ." I smiled.
"What would you both want to call him?" The nurse asked.
"Loto Fetu Anoa'i."
"What a beautiful name!"
"What does that mean?" Ashley asked in between words, catching her breath.
"Loto means 'heart and soul' in Samoan. In which meaning that he'll have the heart to do whatever he wants to do in the future."
"That's so beautiful."
I couldn't help but to smile at my son and my beautiful wife. I laid Loto next to Ashley and she held him in her arms with tears falling from her face with a smile.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong." She sniffled. "I've been waiting for this moment for years."
"So have I, Ashley."
Our friends and family gathered into the room and gushed over our son the moment they first laid eyes on him.
"Aww! He's so adorable!" Eva cooed.
"What's the little guy's name?" Ambrose asked.
I smiled, "Loto."
"Loto? That's adorable!" Renee said.
"You did good, my son." My father said.
"Ashley, sweetie. How are you feeling?" Mother asked.
"Exhausted." She said. "Very, very exhausted!"
"Get some rest. Everything will be okay."
Ashley laid back in bed and closed her eyes, falling asleep in her bed the moment everyone left the room. I allowed her to rest as I held Loto in my arms for the first time. I was finally a father and hopefully someday, my son can carry on in my legacy.
"Welcome to the world, my son. I love you so much."
