Chapter 72) Pensacola, Florida
Ashley and I were finally on our flight to Pensacola, Florida. I haven't visited my hometown in months, and I couldn't wait to take her to this beautiful sunset that she hasn't seen since her coma. Arriving back to my hometown with Ashley and seeing my family for the first time in awhile was a breath of fresh air.
"I'm so happy that we're able to finally relax together."
"Me too." She grinned. "How long is our flight?"
"Roughly two hours."
"I cannot wait until we make it to your hometown."
"Me either." I replied.
We both remained silent while sitting next to each other inside of the plane and relaxed in our chairs with my fingers intertwined with hers.
I looked beside me to seeing a beautiful view of the clouds and the sun beaming down on the airplane through the window. It was breathtaking.
The entire plane ride was peaceful. No noises or hearing children screaming in the back. It was perfect and it wasn't long until the both of us made it to my hometown.
Upon arrival, we left the plane and taken our luggage to the Pensacola airport. After half of hour of waiting for our Uber, we started making our way to my home.
After we left the Uber and made it to my house, I helped Ashley with her luggage and walked with her to the door and rang the bell.
"Hello?" Said my mother from a distance as she was walking towards the door.
My mother opened the door to seeing Ashley and I with a couple of suitcases next to us.
"Oh my! I've missed you so much son!"
"I've missed you too, ma."
"I also see that Ashley's awake from her coma! Sweetie, how are you feeling?" She asked, pulling her into a hug.
"I'm sadly suffering with memory loss, but it's nice to see you, m'aam."
"Oh dear, let's get you kids inside."
The both of us walked inside and I seen that Ashley's eyes brightened up like a Christmas tree. She must have forgotten that my home was huge.
"Your home is so beautiful, Mrs–"
"Anoa'i, sweetheart."
"Mrs. Anoa'i, you have a lovely home. It looks familiar to me somehow."
"It does?" I said with a smile on my face.
"Yeah." She replied.
It was incredible that she slowly began to remember the smallest things about the past. It's like her memory loss is starting to fade away and her memory is becoming more clearer by the day.
We spent a few hours speaking with my parents. It felt great being able to spend time with my family and the woman I loved the most in this world. I remembered that I was going to show her the Pensacola Beach during the sunset and I had to make our conversation short.
"Ma, dad? I'm going to take Ashley down to a special place that we've been to before to help jog her memory."
"Alright." They both said in sync.
We left the house and I walked with her to the beautiful sunset that Pensacola had to offer.
It was a beautiful scenery. The sky was tinted in pink mixed with a little orange, the ocean was clear, and the sand was soft in between our toes as we walked around the beach with a small gust of wind that was blowing onto us.
"Roman, this is so beautiful."
"We used to come to this very beach before you lost your memory. It was one of your favorite spots to relax at when I first brought you here." I said, sitting the both of us down on the sand and staring at the ocean.
"I can see why." She said with a smile.
"Mhm." I said, laying one arm around her shoulder and gently moving her next to me.
This is what I called a perfect moment. I loved spending as much time as I could with Ashley to help her reminisce these moments that we'd share before Seth and Charlotte put her into that coma.
Suddenly, she began to speak.
"Roman?"
"Yeah, Ashley?"
"You know, this is the best thing that's ever happened to me from what I can remember. From everything that I've heard about my past, with being bullied and Seth treating me poorly, it sounds like everything used to be shitty for me until the day we first met. If only..."
Ashley paused, looking down at the sand and then to the oceans water. She then started to shed a tear.
"If only I could remember everything like before."
"Babe," I said, wiping her tears away with my thumb. "I know you'll soon begin to remember everything like before. I can promise you that."
"I remember the smallest things, even this beautiful beach that you brought me to. Everything is so beautiful, it's so peaceful and calming. It helps me remember things so clearly."
"It does?"
"Yeah. It's not long until I start to remember everything like before. It's just a long and stressful process, but I'll get there."
I looked at her with a smile on my face.
"You will, and I believe in you, babe."
We spent some more quality time together as we watched the sunset. The stars started to emerge and the moon was as bright as ever with a very cool breeze that lingered around us. The feeling of the breeze sent chills across my arms and legs.
"Wanna head back home?" I asked.
"I'd love that." Ashley said with a smile.
I took her hand in mine and we made our way back home for the night. Our walk lasted for nearly half an hour, and we finally made our way to the door.
"Thank you for tonight, Roman."
"Don't thank me, baby. I just wanted you to regain a small amount of your memory with the beach. I know how much that place meant to you and I couldn't wait to bring you back here."
"I'm glad you did, because it was a beautiful sight and I've always adored everything about the beach. Tonight was wonderful."
"I'm glad it was." I smiled.
We opened the door and made our way inside the house.
