Chapter 71) Nightmares & Anxiety
"Did you enjoy tonight?" I asked.
"I did, thank you." She replied.
"Do you want to rest for the night or do you want to spend more time together?"
"I'd love to spend more time with you because I'm starting to slowly remember things like before."
"Where would you want to go?"
"I'm in the mood to do anything you'd like."
"Luckily for you, I have an amazing idea."
"What's your idea?"
"Because I don't have to wrestle for awhile, how about we make our way back to my family's house in the morning. Maybe that'll jog your memory a little."
"Unfortunately, I don't remember what your home looks like."
"I'd love to show you soon, Ashley." I smiled. "I feel like you'll remember my home in no time."
"Maybe." She shook her head. "I don't know and I don't want to disappoint you."
"You're never disappointing me, Ash." I leaned down and planted a small kiss upon her lips, "It's for the best that the both of us get some sleep for tonight. My family knows how much I care about you and they'd love to see you again."
"I hope they will be happy to see me again. I wish I was able to remember what they looked like and how your home looks."
"You'll find out in the morning." I grinned.
Ashley crawled into bed and started to fall asleep next to me in our huge blanket. I lied in bed and texted Ambrose that Ashley and I were heading back to Pensacola for a few days in hopes of her memories coming back.
Shortly after I sent him the text message, I fell asleep.
A few hours passed and I was in a deep sleep. I kept having these frightening nightmares about Ashley and I.
It felt like I was unable to open my eyes; suddenly I kept having these fears of losing Ashley. The way I almost lost her during her second coma would forever give me a sense of anxiety.
"Ashley?" I wandered around in nothing but a dark room.
The room remained silent.
"Are you there?" I continued to say while walking around in an empty, darkened room.
After walking around in this darkened room, I felt something that was on the ground. I took a small glimpse and realized that this was a body that was in front of me.
"No, it can't be."
Kneeling down next to the body, I realized that this was Ashley and she wasn't moving nor breathing. I began to tremble while moving the hair from her face and attempting to wake her up.
"Ashley? Ashley?" I panicked.
The room grew colder and I felt mortified at what I was witnessing. Ashley looked like she was lifeless right in front of me. My biggest fear was always losing her after the coma incident.
After multiple attempts to wake her up, she wasn't breathing or moving around. I started to scream with tears falling down my face and I could feel my heart racing.
After waking up from my nightmare, I jumped from my bed and felt my heart racing. I attempted to catch my breath and started scratching the back of my head.
"Fuck."
I looked over to my side to seeing Ashley peacefully sleeping next to me. I took a small sigh of relief that she was safe and out of harms way.
I slipped out of bed and went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. This nightmare was one of the worst ones I've ever had in my thirty years of living. I decided to fall asleep for the second time and held Ashley close to me and I peacefully drifted off to sleep.
7:39am
Morning struck. The birds were chirping outside the hotel window and the sun's light was beaming in our faces through the curtains. I sat up in my bed with my alarm going off from my phone and turned it off. I glanced over at Ashley and seen her opening her eyes.
"Did you sleep well?" I asked.
"Yeah." She smiled. "Did you?"
"Um—I guess you can say I did."
"Did something happen last night?"
"To be honest with you, yes. I had a heartbreaking and terrifying nightmare that you were somehow dead in front of me. It's hard to describe but I didn't get as much sleep as you did, Ash."
"Nightmares happen." She pulled me into a comforting embrace. "I promise that everything will be okay."
"Thank you."
My phone began to ring and I realized it was from my cousin Jimmy.
"Hey Uce. How's it hanging?"
"It's been alright. I'm heading back to Pensacola for a couple of days with Ashley."
"How is she? I heard she woke up from her coma about a month ago but nobody's given us the details."
"She's doing alright. The only downside is that she lost her memory, but she's starting to slowly remember things again like before."
"Let's hope for the better, Uce."
"She'll remember things again. Last night, I took her to the restaurant on Cherry Street and she actually remembered the place. I'm taking her down to Pensacola for awhile to help her remember the memories that she had with us at the time."
"That sounds like a good idea. Jey and I aren't going to be in Florida for awhile because of our schedules."
"I understand. I have to get packed up so we can catch our flight in a couple of hours."
"Alright Uce. If she starts remembering everything again, you better call us because we'd love to see her again sometime."
After hanging up with Jimmy, Ashley was already beginning to pack her luggage.
"Starting ahead of me, huh?" I chuckled.
"Yeah. I just wanted to prepare before our flight so I'm not missing anything. We wouldn't want that would we?" She laughed.
"You've always been very organized."
When we finished packing, we made our way to the airport and finally boarded our flight to Pensacola, Florida.
