Chapter 4) Sellout Backstory
After the three of us made it to the hotel, Dean and I stepped out of the car and went to check into our hotel rooms. I brought my luggage to my room and after settling in, I kept receiving messages from Roman.
Roman - Are you available tomorrow?
Ashley - Yeah, how come?
Roman - I thought tonight was pretty fun with you. I wanted to hang out some more since we don't have a house show to work at tomorrow.
Ashley - Sure, it'll be fun!
I turned off my phone and began making my bed, thinking about what happened earlier with having dinner with Roman and Dean tonight. However, I remembered how they were with Seth Rollins back in The Shield. I knew they had to split-up due to the script last year, but it's peculiar because I've never seen him ever interact with Roman or Dean, unless it was for segments where they would go back and forth and exchanging blows. I would always see him with the authority when they would make their way to the ring. Maybe they were all trying to keep kayfabe alive.
I picked up my phone and called Roman. He finally answered a few seconds later. "Hello?"
"I have a question about something. It's been crossing my mind for a few minutes now."
"Sure, what is it?"
"I've never seen you and Dean hang out with Seth ever since the split. You said you needed a third member to hang out with and I don't think I've ever seen him around with you guys. I was wondering why you guys didn't mention him earlier at the restaurant. Did something terrible happen between you three after the implosion?"
He remained silent and sighed. "I can tell you if you come over. Number four-fifty-three."
"Alright, I'll see you there."
I walked over to Roman's room and knocked gently onto the door. I heard a cough while he opened the door. "Come in, Ash."
I plopped down on the couch and seen Roman move the hair back from his face as he offered me a small cup of coffee.
"Coffee?"
"Sure, thanks."
The room was silent for a few minutes.
"What's wrong, Roman?" I asked, breaking the silence between us.
"It's a long story about...Seth."
"What happened? If it's too personal I won't ask anymore."
"It's fine. I'll be more than glad to explain things to you. It's not an issue with me."
"Listen, I know you guys imploded last year and he joined-up with the authority. What else happened?"
"Long story short, Seth ditched us as his friends after beating us with steel chairs and leaving us in the ring with scars and bruises on our backs. He allowed the likes of Randy Orton to finish us off like we were a scrap of meat in front of everyone. Like we were prey waiting to be eaten. Ambrose and I believed that he was following the script and was still someone that we could call our brother. Until that is, he started talking with the authority and would ignore us as if we never existed. No, this wasn't kayfabe that he was doing, Ashley. He stopped calling and texting us to the point we just eventually gave up all hope in the friendship we all had at one point."
He paused, "Brothers..."
He looked down at the floor. "It's just only Ambrose that I consider a brother in this business. I really want to put a stop to the authority somehow because they change people for the worse. They ruined the brotherhood that we all once shared together and I'm still in disbelief over it all."
"That's terrible. I'm so sorry that happened." I apologized.
"It's not your fault." He shook his head, "The authority did this to him and now he's corrupted."
"I really shouldn't have asked. I just thought he wasn't available for tonight to hang out with us and I never thought he would do this to you guys."
"It's alright Ashley. You didn't know." He said, allowing a small sigh escape from his mouth.
"Would you like to have some company tonight? It's the least I could do for upsetting you." I offered.
"You didn't upset me, and I'd love the company. It's been pretty lonely here lately."
I watched as Roman stood up and walked into the other room for a moment. A few minutes passed and he came back with a look of concern written all over his face.
While I was sitting on the couch, I heard him clear his throat. "Ashley, can I ask you something?"
"Yeah, sure."
"I hope you can keep this between the both of us? You know, my emotions. I don't usually express myself all too often when it comes to these things."
"Of course I can."
Throughout the late hours of the night, Roman and I spent all night talking and I started telling him more about myself.
"Roman, I've been waiting for this dream to come true ever since I was young and I'm thankful that I've met you and Dean. I've always been quiet towards all the other wrestlers but with you guys, I feel more comfortable. It's like I've known you two for years and that's rare of me to say."
"I'm glad that we met, Ashley. I'm still sorry for having to explain the Rollins issue earlier. I hope I didn't become a bother for explaining everything."
"Don't apologize! I'm always here for you and Dean."
"I really appreciate it. More than you'll ever know."
Tonight was full of conversing with one another. I never thought I'd form a close bond with a co-worker in such a short amount of time. Roman, on the other hand, reminded me of myself somewhat. We both went through betrayals and endured a lot of hardships throughout our lives.
After we finished hanging out for the night, I stepped out and made my way back into the room in attempt to sleep for the night.
