"Hey Amy, wake up" Someone whispered into my ear while shaking me awake, I groaned opening her eyes to see her sisters bright green ones contrasting with my own blue ones.
"Clary enough!" I said pushing her off grinning as she hit the floor
"Hey be nice it's my birthday" She cried getting up
"So what? it's my birthday in a week I get to boss you around!" I said shrugging a grin dancing on my lips. Today was the 21st of August also known as my annoying sister's birthday mine was in a few days. Also today we are gonna get Clary to the Brooklyn Academy of Arts so she can see if she could get accepted in like I did. We both draw just with different styles while hers were landscapes and scenes mine were people and feelings. I got in about a year ago for both art and dancing Clary would have done ballet like me but not gonna lie she was horrible at it.
"I'm gonna take you there at we will have some coffee then I have martial-arts classes you could join" I informed her while getting up
"There is no use in those classes come on its Brooklyn who is going to attack us here?" Clary said waving her hand s all over, she knew damn well that people still get attacked here I thought my smile slipping off my face. As Clary realized what she said her hand flew to her mouth.
"Oh Lia, I'm so sorry I didn't me-" she started to apologize but I cut her off
"You know what it's fine, go get ready so we can leave and I will join you after my class in the Pandemonium later on. " I said sighing my shoulders still tense, I saw her eyes cloud with guilt as she left the room
I picked out my outfit and went to take a shower, I felt the warm water run down my face it felt amazing, after I washed my hair and body I started to get out when I noticed that there was some red hair dye swimming with water and bubbles. Why do I dye my hair? its because when I was around 5 people would say that I am not a part of the Fray family because I lack the signature curly red hair, instead my natural hair is golden nearly white and hangs as loose waves. So I begged my mom to dye it and it has been ginger ever since.
I walked over to the mirror to find that instead of the strong ginger hue it was yesterday, now I had blonde locks mixed in with the ginger. Personally, I think it looks better that way this way it is more unique like this. Its been a while since I saw the real color of my hair this time I won't dye it again just for a change.
I walked out of the bathroom so I could do my make up and dry my hair. I put on some mascara and some light eyeshadow I threw on my clothes and pulled my hair into a messy bun. One last look at the mirror, smile I thought and ran down the stairs
I grabbed my leather backpack which is what I usually bring with me when going out it was a present from Luke on my 15th birthday and I absolutely adored it.
"Are you going to dye your hair again?" Clary asked as I walked out of the house
"Actually no I like it like this I'm keeping it for a change" I answered pulling a piece of my hair behind my ear
"Yeah, I think it looks nice on you!" She said smiling and looking at my bun
"Anyway enough talk about my hair where is Simon?" I asked once we reached the Caffe that's next to the Academy
"There he is," Clary said walking over to a familiar mess of brown hair, she taped him on the shoulder causing Simon to jump and turn around. He sighed in relief when he saw Clary and I.
"You scared me" He exclaimed and Clary giggled.
"Hi, Si!" I said hugging him and he squeezed me back, Simon was like a little brother to me. I sometimes hang out with him and Clary when I have nothing to do. Besides it was fun to tease him
"Morning Amy" Also giving Clary a hug I got my phone to check the time we had five minutes and the Deans hate when people are late
"You ready Lissa we have to go," I asked my sister Simon grinned at the nickname and Clary shot him a glare because only I can call her that
"Some times I forget her name is Clarissa you know" Simon whispered into my ear, it was true Clary hates being called Clarissa but I loved calling her that so she told that I could call her Lissa instead.
"Let's go," Clary said rushing into the entrance I was allowed to go with her because I also go to the school and that I am her sister or usually the Deans wouldn't allow it. I sat in a corner as she headed towards them so she can show her artwork. To pass the time I dug out my sketchbook from my bag I suddenly had an urge to draw, when I draw I usually draw what I'm feeling deep down the emotions or memories that I don't want to talk about. But sometimes I get this sudden urge to draw and when I finish it I don't remember the process.
I looked at the blank page and started to sketch my hand flowing like it had a mind of its own even as Clary and I walked out of the room I heard her talking with Simon but it sounded like I was listening from underwater. I hear Clary calling my name but I couldn't stop Simon tried to wave his hand in front of my face but even that didn't make me stop either.
Every single detail with my black charcoal, thin strokes, wide strokes. My hand started to slow down to a stop I dropped my charcoal onto the table and looked up to see my sister and Simon staring at me in concern. I looked down at my hand then at my drawing my frown deepening.
"Amy are you all right?" I heard Clary ask her voice laced with concern
"What just happened?" Simon asked his gaze flitting between me and Clary
"I have no idea I just couldn't stop" I answered my voice quiet still staring at the drawing it was the face of a man his mouth stitched together his eyes sealed closed there was a marking on the side of his face, he seemed bald under his hood.
"Can I see?" Clary asked slowly reaching out for my sketchbook I nodded and handed it over. Clary's eyes widened slightly and she traced the marking with her hand
"I've drawn this before," She told me her green eyes wide I opened my mouth to speak but no noise came out.
"Amy, could I have a look?" Simon asked turning towards me I nodded again as he too had a look
"That's a very....." He searched for a word to describe it and Clary piped up
"Interesting?"
"Sure yeah," Simon said slowly handing it back I looked at it again, instead of my usual soft patient strokes these were messier and hurried it was a complete different style from my normal neatness.
"Anyways did you get in?" I asked Clary looking at the paper Simon dropped on the table I picked it up to find large red letters that spelled out CONGRATULATIONS I smiled looking at her.
"I knew it!" I yelled getting up to hug her she was smiling wide her eyes bright. The waitress came up to us with our drinks, I had ordered an iced coffee and like my sister's latte, it came with a biscotti.
"So what's the deal with you and Maureen?" Clary asked Simon with curiosity picking up her biscotti. I grinned at Simons expression it was one of pure shock playing along with Clary I piped up.
"Yeah what's up with you two" I continued my grin widening Simon shot me a glare, he had told me that he had a crush on Clary for a while now and come on, it was quite obvious. But what's wrong with having a little fun
"What deal?! No deal we sing together that's it" Simon stuttered looking at us both
She put down her biscotti " You seriously don't know she's been crushing on you this whole time?"
"What? No no" He stammered
"Simon, how can someone as smart and perceptive as you did not realize the person sitting right there is in love with you." She said
I chuckled and Simon shot me a glare
"Oops sorry!" I said not before whispering so only Simon heard "Nice"
Simon frowned slightly then answered Clary "I assure you I'm not the only smart and perceptive person that has made that mistake"
Ain't that right I thought as I watched Clary smile then she frown at her coffee.
"Yeah that's a latte," Simon said pointing at her coffee
"I know but I could have sworn I had a biscotti," Clary said looking up confusion apparent on her face, I spaced out when Simon started to babble on with some theory. I looked down at the table to see a detailed drawing of a biscotti. I ran my fingers over the drawing, I felt the texture change as my fingers ran over it instead of the normal texture of the paper I felt the rough texture of the pastry and suddenly there was a biscotti on the table. I frowned and said to Clary
"Umm Clary I think I found your biscotti," I said melting my frown into a smile.
"Oh great, now I can officially declare today to be the best 18th birthday in all history" She smiled lifting her cup and we all said
"L'chaim!"
The Frays home
As Clary was talking to Dot, I went in to greet my mother and grab a change of clothes for after my martial arts class. I walked into the living room to find my mom holding two wooden boxes engraved beautifully with delicate designs.
"Hey mom" I greeted her, sitting on the couch across
"Hey sweetheart, I need to talk to you about something." My mother said looking up tracing her finger on one of the boxes.
"Sure no problem," I said leaning forward I saw my mom hesitate then reach for the bigger box slowly opening it up.
There was a simple and silver bracelet with a design of a delicate heart with a pair of angel wings, there is a purple gem in the middle of it. Next to it, there was a wand-shaped thing made out of smooth purple crystal, with the same wing-tipped on the end.
The bracelet
"That's a stele." My mom said as I ran my finger over the wand-shaped object tracing the wing at its tip.
"They're beautiful" I whispered picking up the bracelet and putting it around my slim wrist there was a small design of a bird and the initials C.H were intertwined in between it, maybe it was my grandmas bracelet I thought, I did think a out it to much though still distracted by its glowing purple stone . I took the stele into the light making a purple-tinted rainbow.
"When the time is right you will need that stele, believe me." She said leaning forward
"I believe you but how about the bracelet?" I asked caressing the two wings
"That you will need it much later and if you're lucky never" My mom sighed looking up at me she was acting so weird but I played along
"Okay anyways I have to grab a change of clothes for after the class," I said as I made my way towards my room
"Okay honey be careful," My mom said as I grabbed my clothes and made my way to the antique store to say goodbye to Clary.
"Ow sis watch were you're going," Clary said as I bumped into her on the way out
"Sorry but I'm going to be late. See you at the pandemonium" I waved as the door closed behind me
I grabbed a cab and he started to drive towards my martial arts class. As I walked into the building I saw an array of different weapons Naginatas, Chakrams, Katanas, Guisarme, Kunai to name a few. There were also bows, and short throwing daggers for aim. I go better with aim preferring throwing daggers or knives over Katanas but if I had to use a different weapon I usually work best with dual wakizashi. Also, I'm not so bad with a bow and arrows but I did nearly shoot an arrow through my foot a couple of times but what can I say nobodys perfect.
"Good Afternoon sir!" I said as I saw my coach near one of the training rooms, he was Asian -how ironic- with thick black hair, that was streaked liberally with gray, he had deep brown nearly black eyes. Mr.Wo Chang was very skilled in his arts, and kinda looks like the coach from The Karate Kid but without the balding hair.
"Good Afternoon Amelia are you ready for today lesson?" He asked walking towards me
"Yes sir, just have to change into a pair of leggings. Which weapon are we using today?" I said grabbing my leggings out of my locker
"Ahhh we are continuing with your dual wakizashi since you have mastered your throwing daggers and Chakarams" He answered pointing to a pair of wakizashi he had prepared on the table I smiled slightly
"Okay sir" I nodded at him
"I'll wait for you in room" He answered his accent thick. As soon as he left I got dressed quickly into my training clothes that I leave in my assigned locker with my throwing knives which my mom let me buy from the center.
I walked into the training room to find my coach stretching on the mat he nodded acknowledging my presence.
"We will begin first stretch then fight" He ordered not opening his eyes
After the lesson was finished I pulled my hair down and brushed it away from my sweaty forehead. I got out and started to make my way towards the showers when I heard my coach call out my name.
"Yes sir," I said turning around to see him holding a package in his hand
"It's your birthday in a few days yes?" He asked I nodded slightly
"Well I'm traveling back to Korea tomorrow so I'll give you today," He said handing out the box
"Sir there is no need to give any-" he cut me off
"I insist," he said placing it in my hands I slowly opened it to find there were 3 black and purple throwing daggers I smiled running my hand over them
"Thank you, sir," I said and he nodded stiffly and left after I finished showering I dressed the change of clothes I got for when I went to the club with Clary
Sticking my one of my new throwing knives into the small pockets in my boots that I had sewed in a year ago after a certain incident that I don't want to talk about. I put the others in the inside pocket of my leather jacket.
Outside the Pandemonium
I spotted my sister spray painting Simons truck when a guy bumped into me. I turned to meet a pair of hazel eyes.
"Hey watch where you're going" I scowled looking at him he had weird tattoos adorning his hands and neck.
"Wait how can you even see me?" He asked confusion clouding his eyes I frowned
"Umm, I have eyes which I use to look at people maybe you should too." I said my voice dripping acid. His frown deepened he muttered something about a 'mundane' and the 'sight' and walked away not looking back.
"Rude" I called out walking towards my sister
"Hi, Clary!" I said as I got closer
"Amy!" She waved and then a blonde guy bumped into her, what the hell is up with guys cant the watch where they are going.
"Hey watch it" Clary snapped the guy turned I noticed that he had similar tattoos as the other hazel-eyed one and he had the same confusion apparent in his blue eyes but when I looked closer one was part honey brown which made me want to get out my prismacolors and sketch them.
"You can see me?" He asked why can't he just admit that he didn't see her he would sound way less dumb. I put an arm around my sisters shoulder
"Yeah and so can I," I said my tone flat and bored his eyes searched Clarys face than mine
"You both have the sight, how can I not know who you are?" He asked looking into our eyes I let out a humorless laugh
"Has that line ever worked out for you?" Clary asked
"Like ever?" I continued my tune icy, he was about to answer when a voice yelled out what I suppose is his name
"JACE!" so he rushed and before we could call him out he mingled.
I pulled my hair into a high ponytail and started to make my way towards the club Clary right on my heels her red curls bouncing as she hurried to keep up with me. I heard Simon yell something about how 'our fake IDs suck' I just shrugged and kept on speed walking towards the entrance. Unlike what Simon said Clary and I got in just fine. As we started looking around for they blonde. When a guy with yellow-green eyes that reeked of alcohol grabbed my hand
"Come on pretty thing dance a little" He slurred drunkenly dancing
"Let me go before I twist your hand" I hissed narrowing my eyes
"Oh come on just a little dance" He smirked okay he was asking for it I thought as I twisted his hand he yelped letting me go. I saw a flash of red hair as Clary got into the Vip section, I immediately linked my arm with one of the bouncers giving him my best flirtatious smile which wasn't really much.
"Someone works out" I cooed and looked at his obviously fake eye contacts he smiled at the compliment. I made it in to see the sight in front of me there was a very beautiful woman in a tight white top with a matching tight skirt dancing seductively while taking off her platinum wig, I turned to see a dark-haired guy standing in the dark the shadows concealing his face.
In the middle of the room, the blond guy from earlier had his grip around a woman whispering into her ear. I watched as he reached into his pocket pulling out a tube that turned into a glowing sword.
"Watch out" Clary yelled pushing the woman away, the woman hit the couch and immediately whirled around her eyes glowing blue I watched as tentacles burst out of her mouth. And hell broke loose.
"Clary, move!" I yelling at my sister, but the redhead was frozen in place mouth wide open staring at the creature on the couch. The dancing woman had started to fight the creatures surrounding her using a silver whip her raven hair whirling around her, the blond guy was using his blade to attack some of them and there were arrows shooting out of the shadows.
I heard a growling sound getting closer reaching into my inner pocket whipping out my throwing daggers I aimed at the approaching monsters and it landed right between its eyes. The monster let out a piercing screech and turned to dust, I moved to stand in front of my sister.
The blonde guy had drooped his glowing which turned back into a tube and skidded at my feet. I reached out to pick it up and the glowing part burst out
"YES I'M A JEDI!" I squealed then blushed looking down at the blade I don't usually squeal but come on this is cool. It felt like kind of like a wakizashi but a little heavier, I readied my stance as a group of men with glowing eyes approached.
"Bring it" I said my eyes flashing and jumped into the fight much to my sisters surprise
ALEC POV
Aiming at a large man with scruffy blonde hair seeing his eyes flash blue I let my arrow fly. I nocked another arrow looking for the next target I marked an African man just I was releasing the arrow a flash of red and blonde hair around the man , my eyes widened as he fell to the ground my arrow whizzed past her nearly hitting her arm.
She moved as quick as lighting to avoid it, looking up she frowned at me. I stood there watching as she moved nearly as fast as Jace and with the same agility. As she stabbed and slashed face set in a look of concentration hair flying behind her in a red and blonde swirl. I couldn't help but admire the way she moved she made it all seem like a dance, twirling, twisting, kicking, and punching.
The blade suddenly dropped from her hand landing and her less talented sister who picked it up the seraph blade lit up. The other girl pushed one of the demons onto the blade, watching as it turned to dust. One last demons approach her from behind, she reached in her boot pulling out a sharp object throwing it at the demon. Instead of turning to dust it let out a screech but kept on coming, the weapon wasn't runed I realized.
I started to nock my arrow just as it lashed out at her she tried to move but this time she was too late.
"Look out!" I yelled letting my arrow fly, as the demon slashed her side leaving a gash. My aim was true as it hit the demon directly between its eyes, The girl turned around to give me a brief smile which turned into a wince as she ran behind her sister's hand on her side.
"Who the hell was she?" I heard Jace ask his eyes wide
"I don't know, I didn't see any runes on her" Isabelle said moving to stand next to our adoptive brother
"But we're going find out" I said moving past them
"Where are you going?" Isabelle asked grabbing my hand
"First to the institute then I'm going to follow them, I have questions" I turned to face my sisters dark eyes as she nodded in understanding
"I'm coming with" Jace informed picking up is seraph blade
"I'll stall at the institute," Isabelle told us as we made our way back
