It happened on the night when he found out- Alis bore a second child. A girl, to be named Emma Yao, taking her mothers name. A useless, vain, little girl. He already had to put up with one of them- why couldn't the next at least be a boy? He wouldn't have it. He couldn't be King of the Lands if, for the rest of his life, he would have to deal with two stupid girls. That Luna, he thought, can't do anything right. "She's only two," Alis would insist. He sneered. A two year old boy would be able to do simple his tasks, surely. Anyways, he would not put on a smiling face for the cameras with two girls. He glanced up at the clock. Perfect timing, it had just hit midnight. And so, the King of the Lands, husband to Alis Yao, and father to Luna and Emma, did the only logical thing- he ran away.

Alis was shocked. Could he really have abandoned us? She shook her head. No, there has to be a logical explanation. Maybe he had an urgent task, or had to go check on his ill father, Ruthus. Search for him, she told the guards. She could do little herself, as she was pregnant with Emma. Weeks later, the guards returned. He seems to have run away, vanished into thin air. No. No, this couldn't be real! Alis's world was shattered. She cried alone for months, neglecting her duty as Queen. No one could find out, the whispered to the baby. This will be our little secret.
