Chapter 2

Naruto Uzumaki was what most people called a 'problem child'.

He grew used to the constant glares and ignorant stares which were thrown in his direction; being constantly called a delinquent meant that either he could try his hardest to prove everyone wrong, or he could resign to his fate and have fun with his bad reputation.

Naruto wasn't stupid, oh no, definitely far from it. He was just interested in certain things, like sport, and disinterested in others, like academics.

Sasuke once told him that he was pursuing a self-fulfilling prophecy. After Naruto's puzzled expression, Sasuke explained that a 'self-fulfilling prophecy' is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true.

"So, what does that mean, in my case?" Naruto had asked.

Sasuke sighed and replied, "Basically, it means that if you yourself think you're a delinquent, then you will become one, since you accepted it as truth."

So yeah, Naruto agreed that he was pursuing a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Naruto exhaled and threw his cigarette on the ground as he threw his blazer on the grass, laying down on the material. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the sun shining down on his tan skin. The heat was so devastating that he thought if he would stay outside for more than two hours, he would shrivel up on the spot. The sun bit into him, he could practically see the orange and yellow through his tightly shut eyelids.

Naruto fumbled to reach into his bag, and pulled out his sunglasses. After always laying in that exact spot, he knew that around this time of year, he needed to constant be equip with sunglasses, or else he would he uncomfortable.

"Ino has nice legs." He thought, peeking at the platinum-blonde haired girl. He shut his eyes again.

There was a set of approaching footsteps, every trod made a crunching sound as the dry grass was crushed. It was obviously someone who was trying to be quiet, but instead each step was unevenly spaced from the last, with no rhythm at all. It was clear that the person lacked confidence.

Naruto turned his head to the side and opened his eyes. The brown-haired boy was uncomfortably shifting his weight from foot to foot, standing a metre away from Naruto.

"Hi." The brown-haired boy quirked his lips upwards into a wavering smile.

Naruto watched silently as a bead of sweat slid down his cheek. He was interested in the triangles on the boy's face, but decided that it wasn't any of his business to know what it was meant for.

"Hey."

The brown-haired boy lay his own blazer down and inelegantly dropped down, the sound of him falling to the ground sounded a little bit painful.

Naruto hummed and turned his head again so that he was staring at the sky, "Smart." Through the corner of his eye, Naruto saw the other boy tilt his head in confusion. "Lying on the blazer." He explained simply.

Kiba nodded fervently and dug into his blue backpack and pulled out the blond's jumper, which he borrowed the previous day.

"Here, I washed it." Kiba handed it to the mysterious blond. "Naruto, was it?"

Naruto opened one eye curiously, "Yeah." He wondered if the brown-haired boy had heard of him.

Smiling, he replied, "I'm Kiba," watching as Naruto folded the jumper twice, and lay it under his head, like a pillow. "Ah, I just washed that. Well, at least I think dry grass won't give any stains."

"Kiba," Naruto rolled the name off his tongue, trying it out, "Class started ten minutes ago, Kiba."

Kiba shrugged, "I'm just skipping class, like you."

Naruto lowered his sunglasses slightly and studied Kiba's face with a small smirk. "Hm? You don't seem the type."

Leaning back on his hands, Kiba raised an eyebrow at the blond. "And you are?"

Naruto chuckled, "More specifically, I'm a disruptive influence." Kiba laughed but didn't say anything. Naruto continued, "Tomorrow, you should bring a book or something."

"Why?" Kiba questioned.

"You might get bored, just sitting here." Naruto had no problem with lying down, doing nothing. He didn't really think of much, and didn't really care about grades and the like. But somehow, he didn't want others to be like him.

"Do you ever bring a book?" Kiba questioned.

A laugh spilled out of Naruto's lips, he didn't expect that. "No, sometimes I bring a game, but I usually just sleep." He paused, "Or stare at the girls."

Kiba knew that. He was well aware that Naruto liked to stare at the girls. He followed Naruto's line of sight and landed upon Sasuke and Sakura, who were conversing - well, more like Sakura was trying to converse, but Sasuke was blankly looking at the table.

Sasuke was definitely attractive, Kiba supposed that Sakura was too. Sasuke was pale, even in this bright sunlight, and he had a sharp jawline and pitch black hair which looked really smooth.

"Sakura, huh?" Naruto commented, taking his time to sit up and lean on his hands.

Kiba's head twisted to the side and he stammered. "Uh, um-"

Naruto nodded in appreciation and whistled, "She's cute, nice legs and ass." He sighed, "Shame about the boobs, but overall you have good taste."

Weakly trying to correct Naruto, Kiba raised a hand and shook his head. He didn't like to lie, but he didn't know if he could trust Naruto with the truth.

"N-No, I wasn't looking at Sakura." He swallowed the lump in his throat. "I was looking at Sasuke."

He waited for Naruto to recognise what he meant, as in he was gay, but he really didn't want to watch Naruto's face contort into one of horror and disgust, which was what he expected.

However, staring wasn't quite the word for that Naruto did, though it would fit the dictionary definition of the blank expression that Kiba received. He didn't blink, but it didn't scare Kiba, instead his eyes softened and his lips jut to the side slightly. His eyes narrowed and he tilted his head, it was so subtle that Kiba almost didn't notice it.

Naruto snorted and snapped Kiba out of his trance-like state.

"Ah, Sasuke? You've really got shit taste!" Naruto shook his head sadly.

Kiba nearly gaped when he didn't get the reaction he expected.

"That guy's nice to look at, but has a rotten personality and treats most people like shit." Naruto raised his arms and shrugged. "He's alright to me, but that's because we grew up together."

Blinking, Kiba crossed his legs and leaned his chin on the palm of his hands. "...So, you don't care?" He asked, "That I like guys?"

"Hah?" Naruto scoffed, "On the contrary, if there were more gay guys like you," He turned and smirked to look right into Kiba's eyes, making him shiver, "My competition for sexy girls would decrease." He gave a thumbs up.

A few silent seconds passed until Kiba suddenly doubled over and burst into a loud cackle of laughter. He slapped the grass and threw himself backwards, feeling the hard ground against his back. He writhed with laughter and it was like he couldn't breathe, he was beside himself in hysterics.

"Hey, what are you laughing at!" Naruto pouted and punched Kiba's shoulder lightly.

Kiba shook his head in hilarious exasperation and wiped a tear which threatened to fall from his eye. "You- Your head is only filled with girls!"

Naruto placed his hands on his hips, "Well, of course! Girls are the best thing in this world, a man-loving boy like you just doesn't understand their beauty-"

Transfixed on Naruto's flushed face as he animatedly used his hands to describe the various positives about the female body, Kiba just thought to himself.

"Wait, there is absolutely no difference in his inner thoughts and his words." He chuckled again, "And he doesn't have a filter either."

"-Oi, are you listening to me?" Naruto leaned forwards and narrowed his eyes.

Kiba nodded enthusiastically with a grin, watching as Naruto continued. It was the first time that he met someone who said exactly what was on his mind, and the first time that he didn't think that he would have been better off without his power.

Leaning his chin on the palm of his hand, Kiba smiled. "Well, this is a first."

"Why are you always alone?" Kiba asked the next day.

Naruto and Kiba were in the same position as they were the previous day, with Naruto lying down and Kiba sitting up glancing at him.

Kiba had wondered if it was even appropriate for him to ask such a personal question to someone he just started talking to, and he almost apologised and asked him to forget that he ever asked.

Before Kiba could do that, the blond hummed and thought about it for a few seconds.

"Doesn't it look cool?" Naruto smirked, pushing his sunglasses up slightly. "People see me as a delinquent, and I've gotten into a few fights, so they've given up on me." There was a slight bitter tone in his voice, one which Kiba almost didn't notice.

Kiba paused, "Who do you usually hang out with?"

Naruto shifted uncomfortably due to Kiba's line of questioning, but he didn't really have much to hide. He looked at Kiba, "The guy you have a crush on, Sasuke."

With an angry blush, Kiba retorted, "I don't have a crush on him! He's attractive, but he's not my type in the slightest." He started muttering indignantly, "I can appreciate good looks, okay?"

"Sure, sure," Naruto laughed, not a low chuckle, but a real laugh, the likes of which Kiba only witnessed a few times. "Although I keep away from him in school."

"Why?"

Naruto exhaled and pushed himself up into a sitting position. "He asked that too, once." Naruto shrugged, "We're best friends, but I don't want him to be affiliated with me in school. After all, he's a goody goody, and I'm not. So, well... he'd look bad."

Kiba furrowed his brows, "So you're protecting his reputation?"

Pursing his lips, Naruto snorted and nodded. "Yeah, I guess I am." He frowned, "He's not a bad guy, but like I said-" He quickly pointed at Kiba, "-to most people, he's rotten to the core!"

Kiba rolled his eyes playfully and they had a few scattered conversations, mostly just stared at the gym classes and the sky.

It was nice. Peaceful, Kiba realised, very peaceful.

That abruptly changed when Neji Hyuuga, who was one year older than them and a perfect student, strolled out of the doors after class. They could have felt his presence from a mile away as he stomped towards Naruto and Kiba, who were very clearly skipping class.

Neji was an overbearing genius, one who Naruto always had a squabble with since he was part of the student council. He usually caught Naruto skipping class or ignoring basic school rules - they didn't get along in the slightest.

What infuriated Neji the most was Naruto's laid back and nonchalant attitude, as if nothing Neji said was relevant or important to him - Naruto knew that, so he used it to his advantage.

"Naruto Uzumaki, what a surprise." Neji put a hand on his hip, the other hand was holding a stack of paper. He frowned and looked down on the seated boys. "You two shouldn't be out here."

The said blond tapped his foot on the grass, "Aren't you skipping class too, Neji?"

If Neji could possibly scowl more, he did. "I'm delivering exam papers to teachers, I would never be like you." He glanced at Kiba, "Oh? Kiba Inuzuka, is it?" "I've heard a lot about him."

Kiba stiffened as he heard Neji's thought, "Yes."

Neji quirked a brow, "So the useless, good-for-nothing delinquent and the rumoured gay, huh?"

It happened in almost a millisecond, Kiba's heart sank when he heard what Neji said. He didn't even have time to look down in shame when Neji stumbled backwards, letting go of the test papers and making them fly into the air.

As the various sheets of paper settled back onto the ground, Kiba watched as Neji groaned in pain and held his nose with his hands. A steady stream of crimson dribbled down his chin as he cried out in pain. "What the hell Uzumaki?!"

Kiba slowly turned his head to face Naruto, who had a brief flash of something in his eyes. His fist was clenched and angled towards Neji. He straightened his back and grimaced at the fallen boy.

"Fuck off, Hyuuga." He spat.

Neji scampered off, most likely running to the infirmary to get his broken nose checked out. Naruto stared at his fist in disdain, and wiped away the smear of blood on his jumper.

Aghast, Kiba managed to get a sentence out. "You're going to get in trouble."

Naruto snorted, "I'm always in trouble, makes no difference to me." He sighed and sat back down on the grass. "On the bright side, you know what the test is going to be on."

As he motioned to the fallen exam papers, Kiba chuckled and shoved one into his backpack. His smile then dropped as he looked back at Naruto. "Why did you do that?"

Without hesitation, Naruto lay back down and put his hands behind his head. "Didn't like what he said about you."

Kiba never really blushed, but for some reason since meeting Naruto, it became almost a common occurrence for a rising heat to sear through his cheeks. For a second, he thought his face was on fire, and by then he must have looked socially incompetent.

"You didn't have to..." He trailed off.

Averting his gaze, Kiba attempted to hide his rosy features with his dark brown hair.

Naruto stared, almost entranced by Kiba's embarrassed act, and he blinked calmly. Kiba heard a short sentence ringing through his mind.

"Ah, he's cute."
