08. halloween

—You know...I'm completely straight.— Maeve looks down at Elle's hands helping her to tuck her breasts into her corset. — But I may change my mind.

Elle just laughed.

— Finally you will have a good halloween costume and not the cheap version of catwoman.

According to Robbie, they would infiltrate two of them that night. The team agreed that Spencer should accompany the girl since he was the one who would arouse less suspicion as an FBI agent.

Elle chose the costumes.

She turned the girl so that she could see herself in the mirror.

She was Dorothy. She wore the signature blue checkered dress with puffy white shoulder pads.

— I'm pretty sure Dorothy didn't show her tits. — Maeve points to the area, The blouse showed a sweetheart neckline, It was small, it didn't show anything, it was just one more adorable detail.

There is a double knock on the door before Morgan is seen entering the girls' room.

— Meow. — Maeve said seeing Morgan wearing his costume.

He was dressed as El zorro from The Mask of Zorro, a false sword hung from his hips, his eyes were barely visible by the mask in combination with the voluminous hat, the boots matched his dark pants and the white shirt showing his chest in a characteristic way.

Morgan gloats over his own appearance and turns around so she can get a better look at him. Both women agree that he looks amazing.

Maeve manages to get a photo of him off guard. García will pay a lot for this. She thinks.

When the door is left open, a lion appears without warning. Spencer Reid was dressed in a big, fluffy cat smock that made him look cartoonish, with a hood over his head and a comical tail over his butt.

— I had one of those pajamas.— Morgan scoffs.

Spencer was head down, the false skin of the costume was heavy. He lifts his head, his eyes focusing on Maeve.

Elle was braiding her hair, the girl just smiled at the joke Morgan made.

Spencer seemed to swallow thickly.

Gideon shows up after Hotch.

— Hunter. — Announce the first one. —You and Reid will meet Robbie at the entrance, Morgan will be under cover, Robbie can't know he's there. —He says this, fixing his eyes on the young woman from the team.— The rest of us will be near the block, we'll be monitoring them via sound.

Elle finishes the girl's hair and helps her put on the headset.

They all head towards the van, except for Maeve who asks for a minute so she can put on her shoes.

Spencer watches her from the doorway, watching as she struggles to tie them up. Approaching her with clumsy steps through his disguise, he ducks, she flashes a smile at him.

— Let me help.

Maeve sits up on hearing him, murmuring a little 'Thanks.'

Spencer notices how her white socks aren't quite white when she gets closer. He recognizes pumpkins in one and hearts in another. The hearts definitely belonged to Maeve. Her boots had a heart-shaped heel and were red in color, sometimes a red bow adorned her hair, and he has seen her wear those stockings to bed.

The girl's style of dress was always simple, brown and black colors, maybe some boots and a coat, Maeve didn't have the luxury of buying pretty things, now that she could at least she managed to invest in a good collection of boots, more extensive than her hair, somehow, the hearts are present from time to time in the girl's clothes, the same with the color red and although Maeve did not spend much time doing her hair, which sometimes made her look disheveled, there used to be a bow on her head from time to time, even if it got tangled in her hair, she took the time to tie it on her head.

Spencer was characteristic for wearing odd socks, the boy had his reasons. Despite that, he gave up one of those pumpkin socks, but he can tell that he is there. He smiles, not knowing if he has found the item or seeing that she has embraced that involuntary habit, but he doesn't comment out loud.

He finishes adjusting Maeve's shoes and tries to stand up. The girl laughs at how this caused Spencer difficulty and opts to offer her hand.

Right, he doesn't like that. She thinks.

He didn't care, he needed help getting up.

Both agents go to the vehicles, being transported to the party that would pay tribute to the doctor.

— Why honor the doctor's memory this day?—  Morgan asks.

— Dia de muertos. — Says Elle. — It's a mexican celebration.

— In fact, the day of the dead is in two days. — Spencer informs through his microphone.—But we usually associate it with Halloween because of the belief that astrophysical doors usually open today, connecting the world of the dead with ours, in some way they relate it to any mythical creature such as witches, zombies and others...in theory it is cultural appropriation

— Reid. — Gideon cuts him off.— We need you to be sneaky when talking, No one can notice you talking.

— Sorry.

Morgan would find a way to enter before them, while they were waiting for Robbie's arrival, around fifteen minutes he had arrived.

Robbie's costume stood out from the other two, due to its lack of creativity, a bone-colored shirt matching pants a few shades darker was what he was wearing, the hat was the only thing capable of giving away that he was dressed: A pirate.

He smiled at Reid in greeting, greeting Maeve with a touch to the nose and a flirtatious smile. Spencer was looking down the street hoping to end the show.

— Ready, princess?— Robbie asks, waiting for an answer from Maeve.

Maeve nods, standing in the middle of either side looking at each boy on their opposite end and deciding to hold their hand as they enter.

This act takes Spencer by surprise. He wishes his hand wasn't covered by a fake lion's paw so he could intertwine his fingers with it.

The place was larger than they imagined, the decoration was subtle, barely present, but the artificial haze and low opacity, being barely illuminated by red, purple and orange projectors, it was difficult to distinguish many things, including faces.

— I hope being here helps in your investigation, Princess.

Robbie whispers into the girl's neck, so close that the boy's shirt pinks the microphone causing a screeching noise on the other line. Maeve smoothes her hair, trying to hide her hair, and just smiles at him to distance herself.

Robbie clung to the explanation that the actions were not premeditated, and that everything was attributed to the fact that the doctor was corrupt. According to the boy, the people present were not only his patients, but also buyers.

Some boys go in search of Robbie and they receive him between hugs and pushes, Maeve did not recognize any of them before.

— I don't see Morgan.— Maeve speaks to Elle when she finally gets the chance.

— He must be doing reconnaissance of the area. You and Reid keep acting normal.

Maeve nods knowing that Spencer had heard too and they both just smile. Robbie returns, this time with two drinks in hand, one of which is for Maeve.

— Why isn't there a drink for Reid?— She said..

— Oh. Sorry bro, I had no idea what you liked to drink and I didn't want to risk it.

Maeve looks into the glass, realizing it was just grape soda, She passes the glass into Spencer's hands.

— We can share. —She says before walking away when she thought  saw Morgan, leaving both boys alone.

Spencer looks at the glass and doesn't hesitate to drink a little when he can't find what to say. Unlike Spencer, Robbie wasn't bothered by the environment, he lets out a snort similar to a laugh.

— So Hunter is now a role model. — Spencer watches him out of the corner of his eye as he drinks.— I don't believe it...

— Make it talk Reid...—Gideon mumbles.

— Maeve... She was dating you, right?

— Not about that, Reid. — Ella whines.

— I am her best friend. — Explain the black-haired.— Eventually her boyfriend.

—Ex-boyfriend. — Spencer corrects and tries to suppress a slight smirk as he does so.

—Hunter would do anything for me. — Hotch and Gideon exchange glances as they hear that.— The girl hasn't loved anyone to do that for someone other than me. Love does not disappear.

— Do you love her?

— What?

— Maeve.  Do you love her?

— I'd kill for Hunter.

—  But. You love her?

Robbie seems to be wary of Spencer's words and didn't want to answer but did.

— Nobody loves her like I do, if that's your question I do love her. She's my girl.

But Spencer didn't like that my, Maeve wasn't an object he could possess.

They both fall silent and enjoy their drinks, Spencer being the first to break the silence.

— You said someone was on the night of the murder, why would someone you know be there?

— I already told you, Dr. Reid.— He puts quotation marks around the word doctor.— She was selling drugs.

— As? That person would have had to be at least twenty feet away to be able to identify the scene, assuming they have good visio—

Robbie leaves him talking alone.

— You tried it boy. — Said Hotch.

Maeve was free to come and go anywhere, one could say that she possessed the spirit of a cat.

That's when Spencer notices that Maeve was dancing on the floor,El zorro was dancing next to her, they both seemed to be having fun. Robbie looked at the scene confused, deciding to get away from her and Spencer with some amusement watched his best friends dance.

— They don't know how to lay low.— Spencer talks to Elle.— They are dancing.

She had them apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was lookin' at her.

Maeve was many things but not a good dancer, her movements were graceful, and jerky, but she didn't seem embarrassed, Morgan makes movements with his cape, The girls begin to surround them and Maeve begins to walk away shaking her head.

She sees Spencer and goes to his side.

— Here I am. — She announces and takes a seat, Spencer following, sitting next to her.

The girl's labored breathing causes Spencer to go looking for water, it took him a while to find the drink but he was successful.

— Thanks. — She drinks from the water bottle, when Spencer takes a seat next to her again, she rests her head on someone else's shoulder trying to recover her energy. — You wanna dance? — She looks up to try to meet his eyes.

— Weren't you tired?

The song had changed but it was still an upbeat beat, Maeve manages to make out the artist's voice.

Taylor Swift.

Maeve didn't consider herself a fan but she recognized a couple of songs and obviously her voice.

— Noup. — Maeve gives a wide smile.— You wanna dance with me?

— I don't want to refuse, but I'm afraid I will.

— Come on. — She insists but Spencer continues to refuse.— All right. But you owe me a dance.

Spencer listens to some murmurs, not being able to discern what they were saying caused a feeling of anxiety. The murmurs take on a face when two girls take a seat on the sofa in front of them.

— Boy. —Spencer raises his eyebrows when he sees how she speaks to him.

— My friend likes your costume. she says you're cute.

Maeve's brows furrow in confusion.

A brunette who was speaking to Spencer, covered a redhead behind her shyly.

— Oh. . . well, thanks. Don't you think it's silly?— Spencer giggles trying not to feel embarrassed by what he was wearing.— I feel like I've had eyes on me all night.

Maeve lifts her head from Spencer's shoulder and combs through her hair that seemed to be more messy after dancing.

— You wanna dance? —It's the first thing that redhead says.

Spencer looks at Maeve who was unbraiding her hair.

—In a bit, okay? — Spencer says not sure how to reject someone.

The girl nodded, and she and her friend left with a happy smile on their faces.

Morgan walks past the pair of friends and points to someone who he proceeds to follow.

— I will return to the dance floor. — Maeve says, forcing a smile.

I pictured you with other girls in love, Then threw up on the street.

Maeve winces when she pays attention to the lyrics, they sound melancholy, the words being confused with the rhythm to them.

— I would also throw up in the street right now.

Maeve dances clumsily, because she doesn't know the lyrics of the song, not being able to sing it, she only agrees to take little jumps along with the rest of the group when they chanted:'' Oh my, love is a lie. ''

Spencer joins her as the song just goes into the bridge, the song almost ending. Maeve chuckles as Spencer pretends to know the lyrics, saying things unrelated to the song.

— CATASTROPHIC BLUES MOVIN ON WAS ALWAYS EASY FOR ME TO DO IT HITS DIFFERENT. HITS DIFFERENT CAUSE ITS YOU. — The others yelled, The two of them had no choice but to cover their ears and laugh.

— I thought you didn't want to dance. —She yells for Spencer.

— I did not want to. But you left me alone.

The group of people dispersed waiting for the next tune.

The music had changed pace.

— It's supposed to be a halloween party, this is kind of cheesy. — Maeve scoffed. She recognized and liked the song but the girl insists on not being the right celebration to put something like that. — I can make a whole list of why NOT put this song and which should be. Thriller is obviously first on the lis- What are you doing?

Spencer grabs Maeve around the waist, spinning her around so she's facing him.

Waking up to kiss you and nobody's there...

She doesn't take long to react, she looks around and copies the actions of the other girls present, she wraps her right arm around her partner's shoulder. This made them get closer, catching both of them off guard. Maeve giggles, which Spencer mimics, implying that it wasn't something about either of them.

And I want to tell you everything...

It is Spencer now who takes the opportunity to look around.

—I feel ridiculous. — Spencer mutters, looking around, pulling the hood off his head.

Being ashamed of himself was not something of his own, but he feels that everyone is laughing at a joke he doesn't know about.

They all seemed to have a good time, they all looked sexy, and he felt like he was invisible but judged at the same time. Just as he has felt the rest of his life.

— You and Morgan look fucking attractive.— The boy purses his lips in a way to contain his discontent.— And i look like a cat.

If the whole world was watching I'd still dance with you...

— But i like cats. —Maeve gently turned Spencer's face so that he would stop looking to the sides and not be distracted.

She was actually just another dog person, but she was talking about a specific lion.

The boy tries to smile but fails.

— No you  don't. You don't likes cats, Maeve. — She was about to object but Spencer won't let her.—You pet every stray dog you see. The cats are...a charity for you, so you don't make them feel left out.

Are they still talking about cats?

Maeve opens her mouth in surprise and her eyebrows curl down, unable to believe what she was saying. This time she did make the boy laugh even if it wasn't the intention. Spencer spins her on her heels to try to make her forget. Maeve can't deny what was said because it was the truth.

— Just made a profile?

— Oh, I did a profile of your likes a long time ago.— Maeve arches an eyebrow. but Spencer doesn't say why.

The boy breathes, recovering his physical posture when she returns wrapped in his arms like a funny top.

Trying to focus his thoughts on Maeve, his gaze travels between the red light from the projector reflected on the girl's face to the red lipstick on her lips, he lowers his head for a second, also observing her red shoes.

You still make me nervous when you walk in the room...

He was about to mention how she had stolen one of his socks.

— May I have this dance?

The voice snaps Spencer out of his head, and he can see Robbie behind the girl.

— Sure. — He answers before turning away from her.

—Spence?—She called behind him but he was no longer paying attention to tem because of his big steps as he walked away

Robbie's and Maeve's voices faded to a distant murmur as the boy walked away. He wanted to breathe a moment away from the environment, he needed a moment for himself.

Maeve only tells Robbie that it was not the time to dance, but Robbie stayed by her side for the rest of the night until his contact made an appearance, which came in the middle of the night, when the number of guests at this time only caused growth among them, people were more and more.

Robbie insists on the idea of being the first to talk to his contact, he would answer his questions but they had to do it under his orders, Robbie enters the small room of the residence where that person was, Maeve waits outside and reports the situation to Hotch after the headphone.

About twenty minutes later the boy comes out, and reports that her friend Reid can come in now, but Maeve hasn't seen him for a couple of hours, neither has Morgan.

— i'll go. —Maeve takes only a few steps but Robbie's arms pull her back into place.

— Hold on, Pretty Princess. Reid is the one to enter.

— Robbie. It's a conversation, I can take care of myself.

But this was not enough to let her pass. Maeve pulls out her cell phone and calls Spencer, Robbie looks at her anxious for his to arrive.

He doesn't answer.

Maeve backs away from the boy just to pretend she's talking behind the phone and communicate with the team.

— Hunter what's going on? Why don't you go ahead?— Hotch asks.

— it's just me here. — Whispers.— Reid isn't answering my calls and Morgan is nowhere to be seen. — Maeve takes a look around the room.— I don't care about this case now. — She being honest— I worry about my boys.

— Maeve. — It is Elle who speaks now.— Do you think they are in danger?— Maeve doesn't answer.— Do you think that Robbie is able to hurt them?

A single word and everything falls apart, they dismantle the covert scene theater and evacuate the place.

— No...—Maeve looks around realizing she was alone now, not seeing him.— I mean I don't know. I hadn't seen Robbie in...more than a year.

Maeve takes advantage of the solitude to be able to approach the room with Robbie's witness, she was approaching slowly with her heart racing.

—I'll go there. — Aaron said.—Hunter, how is the place where you are? Hunter?

— Maeve? —Gideon sounded concerned when he didn't receive an answer.

The angle Maeve was at did not allow her to see clearly. He heard Robbie's voice behind her yelling at him not to come in, but she was quick, a crash present as she opened the door. She heard Robbie swear, he was angry, she thought he was yelling at her but there was a figure she couldn't make out, she only saw shadows.

In a blurry way, she can see how Robbie pushed the shadow, as if trying to hit it, Maeve instead tried to stand up, but her head was heavy and she felt hot, she didn't have the strength to stand up, taking her hands to the head noticed how there were burns on her face, that's when she noticed the smoke in the room, the place was starting to catch fire.

Robbie, upon seeing her, consents again, bends down to her height, holding her back so that she can sit down.

— Hey. You okay? — He asks with concern, he sees the girl's cheeks red from the pressure and runs his thumb over them.— You'll be fine, Princess.

Robbie takes his gaze off Maeve's face and Maeve's expression changes when he sees the other person.

— Hunter was not supposed to get hurt. — Robbie gets to his feet to confront.

— Evacuate the area !— Voices were heard getting closer.

Robbie and the unknown exchanged concerned glances. But the second did not think twice to flee the scene. Robbie, on the other hand, knew that they would help Maeve if they see her lying there, and he could leave, but he didn't think it was right to leave the only person he loved to her fate.

— FBI. Hands up.— The boy raised his arms but his concentration was on Maeve. He stepped back.—Don't move.  —

— I'm so sorry Princess... —The boy whispers as he watches Maeve try to squat.

As Hotch advanced, he saw Maeve's body on the floor, although the smoke allowed him to identify her, calling for help.

Maeve squeals as she sees the ends of her hair go up in flames.

The girl saw how Robbie's body was moving away, when a silhouette dressed in white thought that he had repented, however the black cape hanging made a presence.

Morgan put out the fire on it and managed to carry the girl.

—   Where's Spence? — There was anguish in her voice.

— He was with me, don't worry.

The man manages to get his partner out, she was the only one injured, the guests were evacuated on time, and she was fine, just a few first-degree burns, her hair couldn't say the same.

The girl is placed by paramedics on a stretcher to check her injuries.

— Where's Maeve?  —Spencer was looking all over the place for the girl like a lost puppy, trying to find a trail.

When he could see her he ran over, he lets out a small laugh as a result of his nervousness.

— We have to stop getting hurt in every case we are together. — Maeve laughed, Spencer wincing as she coughed through laughter.—You'll be fine?—She nods and this makes him feel relieved.—I shouldn't have left you alone.

— Totally your fault

— Maeve !

—  You left me on a case alone! —She was laughing. — I don't even know how to use a bicycle and you think it's a good idea to leave me alone.

Spencer sighs and watches as the girls from the ambulance place an ice pack on her face.

— Hurts?— He inquires even though he already knew the answer to this.

— Not really, but my body hurts a little. —She looks at him like she's going to lecture him.

— What have I done now?

— You left me in the middle of the dance. It is the second worst thing that I have been left in the middle.

— What's first?—She doesn't respond waiting for him to pick it up, which he did minutes later. — Dirty. . . Also, it's not my fault, Robbie wanted to dance with you.

Robbie.

Shit Maeve. He has used you once again. She thinks.

— I want to dance with you.

— Pretty girl. — Morgan appears interrupting the conversation.

— My hero.

Morgan tries not to laugh and stay serious.

— Hotch says you need to state the facts tomorrow morning.

— Yes, Sir.
