PARK Hayeon has been through some... heavy shit to say the least. But her life is better now. Or it should be. Right? Yeah. That's what she tells herself anyways.
She's way too busy, and she knows it. But it's ok, right? That's her excuse. No matter what, it's all ok. Work comes first anyways, so why should she worry about if everything's ok? She also Jungwon. That's a really big bonus to her life.
Standing up from the desk she was at, she wanders around her office. Being a CEO isn't easy, and to be honest, at this point she's just waiting for her next call. Her next distraction from her problems.
Her phone rings, her ringtone surrounding the room with its familiar tune. It's comforting, it's something she expects, something Hayeon knows. Something she's used to.
It also makes her feel badass, 7 Rings by Ariana Grande tends to do that.
Hayeon answers the phone without hesitation, years of experience in her position leading to her confidence.
"Hello, this is Park Hayeon speaking. May I help you?" She asks in her polite businesswoman tone.
"Yeonie!" An excited voice sounded out from the other line, another regular in her life. Jungwon. "I'm filming for a new series, right?" He asks and continues, not letting her answer. "Well, they let me off early because I only have a side role. I can come home early, so I'll be back in like..." there was a silence as Jungwon checked his watch on the other line. "In like 10 minutes!"
Hayeon smiles softly, knowing he can't see it. "I'll see you in 10 minutes then." She responds with an amused tone, though she's used to her boyfriend's attitude. "Oh, and before you ask" she adds "I already have dinner ready. You don't need to buy ramyeon, or pasta, or anything. Alright?"
Hayeon hears a soft sigh from the other line, a resigned "Ok..." meeting her ears. She chuckles and nods, happy with herself. "Bye Jungwon" she says, being met with the same response from him. After that, they both hang up.
Soon enough, unease fills her. Jungwon is so kind to her, she could never ask for anyone better, but does she deserve him? This is Hayeon's skin, but it isn't. Does she deserve Jungwon? Does she deserve her success? Does she deserve anything-
Her ringtone sounds off again, breaking through her thoughts, except this time there's an ominous feeling hanging over her existence. She's about to answer, but she checks the clock, and sure enough, it's 8:30. She's off call for the day, meaning any calls should be going to her secretary, not her, unless they are emergencies.
That means this call is either from Jungwon, or it's an emergency.
Jungwon called her maybe 2 minutes ago.
So who is this?
— — — ❝ ???'s POV
Ok. Maybe I was just a bit too harsh on Seolhee. Only a bit.
I promises to make this call a bit more pleasant. Maybe a bit less blunt. Or maybe I should rewrite the script? But then I would sound insincere, well... I did sound insincere for Seolhee. Oh my god, who knew making calls about deaths could be so hard?
Maybe I should just emit the part about her committing suicide in the first place...?
Yeah. That sounds good. I'll do that.
— — — ❝ 3rd POV
Unknown Number. That's what her phone is saying. It's an emergency, it's important, and it's worthy of her attention.
Hayeon's finger hovers over the answer button before she taps it, bringing the phone to her ear.
"Hello? Is this Park Hayeon?" A gruff voice sounds out from her phone.
"Yes, you are speaking to Park Hayeon." She confirms. She is Park Hayeon. Whoever made this call, meant it for her.
"I suggest you take a seat." The voice says. This is bad. Really bad. How bad? Only fate knows (and the reader 🤫).
Hayeon listens. She sits. She waits, impatiently, until, the voice speaks up again.
"I am sorry to inform you that your friend Noh Mishil passed away. I send you my sincerest condolences."
Hayeon's breath catches in her throat. A constant in her life has been taken away. Were they close? Maybe, she's not sure. But Hayeon needed to know one thing, though that one thing is what the caller wished to avoid.
"How did she die?" She questioned.
Fuck. He didn't mention her death for a reason. Guess that failed...
"She died of a drug overdose, and yes, it was suicide. I again wish you my sincerest condolences." The man responds, trying (and failing miserably) to sound sincere.
Hayeon hangs up without another word.
She blocks the number.
She needs Jungwon.
She needs comfort.
She needs someone to treat her like Jungwon does.
She needs, Hayeon needs, but she's reaping off of Hayeon's success isn't she?
No. This isn't the time for an identity crisis.
She knows she needs something. Maybe, just this once, she'll acknowledge it.
She'll allow herself to need.
