Quests are stupid

After we got claimed, Logan, Percy, and I moved into our respective cabins. Logan and Percy moved into the Poseidon cabin while I chose to stay in the Apollo cabin since apparently Hades doesn't have a cabin at this camp which is kind of stupid since he's one of the big three and Zeus and Poseidon have their own cabins here despite them not having children at camp until this very moment.

After I got my three drachmas from Travis, I officially moved into the Apollo cabin and it was honestly everything. There was sunlight from every angle and even when you turn down the lights you can still feel the warmth of the sun.

Will noticed me coming in and waved me over.

"Heather! Come here!" he shouted. "We saved a bunk for you!"

Bunk? So even though the Apollo cabin was one of the biggest cabins aside from the Hermes cabin, they still had room for about three more campers. I had a bunk next to Will and another camper, Michael Yew. And to be honest, these bunks are relaxing. The bed sheets are soft and the bed itself could make me fall asleep within seconds.

I placed the picture on one of the desks beside a sun-lamp before staring at it for a moment.

My mother was actually a demigod? What does that make me then? A child of a god and a demigod? A demi-demigod? A demigod 2.0. This is confusing.

Will plopped himself down on my bed and sat next to me as I looked at the picture.

"She's pretty," Will said.

I smiled. "Thanks," I told him. "You know she's your half-sister, right?"

Will nodded. "I know," he said. "Does that mean I'm your uncle?"

"Don't even go there," I said. Will just laughed and I followed suit soon after.

After a minute of everyone getting ready for bed, they finally turned off-or down-the lights. Remember when I said that these beds make you fall asleep rather quickly, well after three minutes I was unconscious and in a very deep sleep.

Though, that didn't last long as I was immediately woken up by someone shaking me. My eyes slowly opened to see Will above me.

"What?" I groaned as Will finally got off of me.

"Grover's outside," he told me. "He wants to talk to you."

I groaned, not wanting to get out of bed but I knew I had no choice. I jumped out of bed and opened the door to see Grover standing outside.

"What do you want, Grover?" I asked him. "I was having a very good nap until you interrupted that."

Grover sighed. "It's Chiron," he said. "He wants to see you, Logan, and Percy in the Big House. It's urgent."

Once I arrived in the Big house, he informed us of what was going on. Apparently someone stole Zeus' lightning bolt during the winter solstice last year and Zeus, since we're his brothers' children (who they're not supposed to have by the way), thinks it's us.

"So that's what happened during the last winter solstice," Logan said, looking at me.

Chiron nodded.

"So why is Percy the only one who goes to the Oracle? We're all suspected of allegedly stealing the bolt." I asked Chiron.

"I have decided that Percy will be the one leading this quest," he explained.

"Quest?" Logan asked.

"We're going on a quest?" I asked. "For what?"

"To retrieve the master bolt and give it back to Zeus before the summer solstice."

"And where would we go?" Logan asked. "We don't know where to look for a Lightning bolt except for where it's supposed to be, which is in the sky!"

Chiron sighed. "Well, if my suspicions are correct," he then glanced at me. "The bolt might be in the underworld with your father."

I raised an eyebrow. "My father?" I asked. "Why?"

"Well," Chiron started. "Who would be the one to take a god's most powerful weapon than the god who's been separated from his family for centuries, waiting for the perfect time to strike?"

"Why would Hades take the Master Bolt?" I asked Chiron. "Doesn't he already have a powerful weapon? He is one of the big three after all."

"As I said before, he has been separated from his family since he resided in the underworld. It is assumed that he is angry at the gods and wants revenge, hence why he would take the Lightning Bolt."

I sighed. Of course they would think that. "But still, why does Percy need to lead this quest? Since we're going to the underworld, would it be best if I led it?"

"Yes, but I have a feeling he is more qualified than the two of you."

Logan and I looked at each other offended.

"I'm sorry?" Logan asked.

"Yeah, I'm sorry, what?" I questioned. "Now if you gave us a more acceptable response, then I would've just stayed back, but just hear yourself for a moment. You're letting Percy Jackson, a boy who's only been here for a week, someone who can't even hold a sword, lead a quest, and not the two people who've been here for six months and are more qualified than him in every way, shape, and form?"

"I am," Chiron said. "And I am not taking any arguments from this point on."

I groaned before turning to Grover, who was sitting beside us this whole time snacking on some cards. "Groves, help us out here?"

Grover looked at me before looking at Chiron. "I, uh, really don't want to choose between my friends," he said, chewing on the cards once again.

I sighed. "This is unfair," I said. "What does he have that we don't? Answer me that."

"A destiny," he answered. "It has been foretold by the fates that this is what he has to do. And you cannot defy the fates."

"Sounds like favoritism to me," Logan muttered. I nodded in agreement.

Chiron sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, even though he had nothing to be frustrated about. "Listen-"

Before he could finish, the golden boy of the month arrived. He looked at us simultaneously before turning to Chiron.

"So," he asked. "What did the Oracle say?"

Percy took a breath before reciting the prophecy given to him.

You shall go west and face the god who has turned,

You shall find what was stolen and see it safely returned,

You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend,

And fail to save what matters most in the end.

I felt Chiron eyes on me and I groaned. I hate this so much.

"Just as I suspected," he spoke. "'You shall go west and face the god who has turned'." no one other than the god of the dead himself. You must travel to the Underworld and secure the master bolt and bring it back to its rightful place in Olympus."

Percy was silent. He didn't understand what was going on at all, which I expected from him.

"Now," Chiron continued. "I would usually only allow two campers to accompany you, but since Logan and Heather are needed for this quest, I will allow you to take an additional two campers with you."

Once again, Percy was silent. I then turned to Grover who was chewing on the cards in his hand. I guess Percy and everyone else was looking at him too cause he just paused and looked around at everyone.

"Hmm?" me mumbled with his mouth full of cards.

"I want you to come with me," Percy told him. Finally, the first good decision anyone has made today. Grover is my best friend, so of course I would want him to come with us. I wonder if Percy's brain cells are going to abandon him on this next choice.

"Okay," Chiron spoke. "Grover is one, and Logan and Heather are second and third. Luckily, there is one camper who volunteered to join the quest."

I smirked. Finally!

Percy rolled his eyes. "Oh great," he said jokingly. "Who would be stupid enough to volunteer for this quest?"

Then, the air shimmered and just as I suspected Annabeth appeared next to me, taking off her cap of invisibility.

"I have been waiting years for a quest," she told Percy. "Athena and Poseidon aren't the best together, but if you're going on your first quest, you're gonna need wisdom on your side." she then pointed her thumb at me. "And if Heather's going, so am I."

I smiled at her while Percy sighed. He then looked at me and Logan. "And why are you two going?"

"Moral support," Logan answered.

"You're gonna need a safe passage to the underworld," I told Percy. "As a daughter of Hades, I'm the best candidate." I then pointed to Logan. "And yeah, he's going for moral support."

Percy looked at all of us before sighing. "Fine," he said.

"It has been chosen," Chiron announced. "Heather, Logan, Grover, and Annabeth will accompany Percy on his quest to the underworld. Get some rest. Tomorrow meet me bright and early on Half-blood Hill for your final farewell."

I groaned. Finally! I can sleep. I immediately walked out of the Big House with Annabeth and Logan following behind me.

"Am I the only one who thinks this quest is gonna go haywire with Percy in charge?" Annabeth asked us.

I sighed. "I thought I was the only one."

The next day Annabeth woke me up an hour early and helped me pack my things. It wasn't much as you know. Just a few toiletries and some outfits from the Aphrodite cabin as well as some shirts one of the girls in the Apollo cabin let me have. Annabeth also lended me a book to read during the trip as well as a few puzzles to keep myself occupied. Logan had almost the same things as me apart from the book and puzzles. Once we were ready we all walked down to the peak of the hill where Chiron was waiting for us.

Grover had on his fake feet and trousers to pass off as human. He also had some reed pipes for the road in case a nature song comes to mind.

Percy practically carried the lightest with only a toothbrush and some clothes. Is that toothbrush even sanitary anymore? I really hope he switches it out for another one.

Once we got closer to Chiron, I noticed four very familiar kids talking to Argus. I went to go talk to them.

"So," I said, causing the four to turn around. "What are you doing here?"

Travis cleared his throat. "Just giving you a little send off before your quest."

"Travis wants to hop in the van," Kenzie snitched, causing Travis to nudge her.

"I was not," he said. "I just wanted to steal a little peek at the inside."

His lie caused Argus to grunt at him, causing the rest of us to burst out laughing at him.

"Fine," Travis shouted. "I was going to hop in the van."

"I already knew that, Travis," I told him. "Why were you going to do that?"

"Cause you get to go on a quest!" he pouted. "If you're going I wanna go!"

"Is glory that needed that everyone so desperate to get it?" I asked.

"Yes," Travis, Connor, and Kenzie said in unison.

"It's to prove to our parents that we can do things without dying," Chandler explained.

"That's...too much," I said.

"We know," Kenzie sighed. "But, as we said, it's needed.

I was about to say something else until I heard Chiron clear his throat behind us.

"The four of you are supposed to be in the camp, not here," he told them. "Go back inside."

Travis and Conner groaned as Kenzie hugged me. The Stolls followed soon after, telling me to bring them back some souvenirs, to which I agreed to. After that it was just me and Chandler after Travis, Kenzie, and Conner went back to the camp (Kenzie refused the urge to drill me on road safety).

I raised an eyebrow at him. "I guess you're waiting for a very special goodbye," I said. "You can't just be still here for nothing."

Chandler smirked at me. "You're right," he said as he stepped a bit closer. "I am."

With that, he lifted my chin and before I could do anything, he gave me a peck on the cheek. My heart practically leaped out of my chest the moment he let go of my chin. My face heated up as I just stood there stunned.

"You could've waited three months for that?" Travis' voice rang out from across the field, causing the two of us to just laugh at him.

"Aren't you supposed to be meeting Luke in three minutes?" Chandler shouted back. Travis turned white as he ran down to the armory.

"Finally," Chandler smirked. "The first time he actually tried to train."

I chuckled at him. "I don't think he's that lazy."

"Then you obviously never met him," he joked. "Be careful. The world of monsters is a dangerous place for half-bloods, especially someone as powerful as yourself."

"I don't think I'm that powerful," I told him. "I haven't even shown any bit of my magic yet."

"You will," he assured me. "I'm sure of it."

I smiled at him. "Thanks," I said before nudging him. "But don't get your hopes up. I thought Demeter and Hades are supposed to be rivals?"

"We are not Hades nor Demeter," he told me. He then motioned to Percy and Annabeth. "And they aren't Poseidon nor Athena. We aren't our parents, so we shouldn't act like them and try to follow their traditions just for their approval."

He was right. I don't feel like Hades. Logan and Percy aren't Poseidon, and Annabeth and Kenzie aren't Athena.

I was about to say something else until I heard something swoop over my head. I jumped a bit as a pen flew over our heads and landed behind the van.

Chandler and I gave each other looks as we heard Chiron speak.

"It'll take a while," he said to Percy. "Check your pockets."

Percy did check his pockets and pulled out a Pen, the exact one that flew over the van. I completely resisted the urge to check the back of the van to see if the pen was still there.

Chandler chuckled a bit. "Well, I best be going," he told me. "Who knows what those two are dragging poor Kenzie into."

I chuckled. "Right," I sighed. "We better get going too, I know good and well Zeus does not like to be kept waiting."

"He doesn't," Chandler agreed. "I'll leave you to it then."

As I waved goodbye to Chandler, he stopped about halfway, turned around, and went to fish something out of his pocket.

"Here," he said. "Will told me to give this to you."

Chandler handed me a bracelet. I gave him a confused look.

"Tap the center."

I did and almost screamed as the bracelet expanded and turned into a large bow and arrow. It was all golden with the tips of the arrows being pure white.

"Will found it in your bag since it spilled out once the bag fell," he explained. "He didn't know what it was but he told me to give it to you anyway."

"And how do you know what it is?"

"I tested it on the way here."

"I knew it."

Chandler laughed at me before he started walking backwards. He then gave me a playful salute.

"Remember that souvenir, darling," he said to me.

"I won't forget!" I said back as he finally walked up the hill. He passed Luke and the two fist-bumped as they did.

Logan groaned as he walked towards me.

"So Percy gets a sword from our father and I get nothing?" he asked. "This is just blatant favoritism at this point!"

I looked down at my bow and quiver for a moment before looking at my brother.

"Want a bow and arrow?" I asked.

Logan looked at it for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, I'll take the bow and arrow," he said as he threw the quiver across his back and tucked the bow into the quiver.

I smiled at my brother as we both hopped in the van. I noticed Annabeth who was sitting in the passengers seat. I waved at her and she waved back. After a minute Grover hopped in with Percy following behind him.

Chiron stood in front of us. "Be careful, children," he told us. "Don't forget about your deadline." he then turned to Percy. "Percy, don't forget the journey that awaits you."

My happy mood deflated then and there. I looked at Logan and I could tell we were thinking the same thing.

Favoritism.

Once Chiron finally closed the door, Argus took off and our quest officially began.
