Chapter 4: Danger
"Aren't you cute"
Bunny's head tilted in confusion, her little fist gripping onto the man's shirt for support. She stared at the strange man, curiosity filling her little mind as she quietly watched the scene before her. Lexi could only stand there, frozen by the sight before her. This man...this monster stood before her holding her baby so innocently.
'What's your name?'
Slowly, Bunny's fear began to subside little by little. She completely forgot about the knife, about Lexi's blood stained side, about everything that made this situation dangerous. Instead, she wanted to know more about this mysterious person. Will, that's what her mother called him right? Where did he come from, how did he and her mother know one another, why was he here? So many questions, so little answers. She focused more closely on his appearance, the little gears within her brain switching into overtime. She could only make out a few letters on his strange pin, but not enough to know what it fully said.
S....U.....TY....
Nope, she just couldn't get it. Still, she was curious about the man. There was this strange feeling lingering within, as if his presence was familiar somehow. But why? She had never seen this man before in her life, and she couldn't have possibly forgotten a strange face like his. Her thoughts were swarming with all kinds of theories, so much so that she had completely disconnected from reality. How long had she been disconnected, she had no idea? The only thing that snapped her out of it was the bear, her favorite bear, being ripped away from her grasp. She quickly snapped back into reality, reaching for her best friend as it was pulled from her reach. The man seemed to study the old toy, ignoring the child as she called for her friend back. Not a second later was she released, dropped onto the hard floor as Lexi scrambled to her child's side. The man's expression was different, he seemed angry as his grip one the toy tightened.
"Where the hell did you get this?"
Bunny couldn't help but to flinch slightly at the tone of his voice, the anger radiating like heat coming from the oven. The fear came back, the child quivering slightly as she was wrapped in her mother's warm embrace. She could feel the blood from her mother's wound slowly staining her own gown, the sickening warm fabric clinging to her skin. Lexi held the child as close as possible to her chest, burrying the girls head into her chest in order to shield her as much as possible. The child couldn't even face the scene before them, turned so that her back was towards the strange man.
"Willaim please, l-let's just talk about this" Her voice was shaking, fear coursing through her veins. The large gash on her side was also pretty painful, even more with Bunny clung rightly to her mother's sides. Still, she tried her best to keep her voice straight, trying not to let her fear be known. Truthfully however, she was petrified for both her and her daughter. She once knew this man, he was her best friend at one time. Her alcoholic best friend who never failed to make her laugh. That was until she found out life-changing news, news that would forever change the way she saw this man. Her former friend became nothing but a stranger to her, and she cut all contact shortly after.
"Please just calm down"
He chuckled, shaking his head as the bear was dropped onto the floor. His creepy grin returned, an evil glare glimmering within his eyes.
"Believe me, I'm calm"
He began walking towards the pair, knife gleaming in the moonlight that shined through the window. Lexi held her child tighter to her chest, trying to find her feet. She had to run, she needed to get both her and her child to safety. Yet, as she tried to stand, she found herself frozen to the floor. Was it fear, was it weakness, she couldn't tell. Her body was frozen, as if she was completely paralyzed. She hadn't even realized she was trembling, like wet clothes in a dryer. Her heart was beating so fast, her chest felt heavy, as if a weight was pushing down on her. Her eyes were stinging, warm tears flowing down her cheeks as the fear finally took over. Even if she wanted to, she couldn't run. She couldn't do anything other than watch as the man approached the two. On his face was a grin, a psychotic grin that would forever be burned into her mind.
"W-Willaim pl-"
Her sentence was cut short, a cry of desperation escaping her throat as her child was snatches away from her secure grip. Bunny was thrown to the wall nearby as if she was nothing but a weightless ragdoll, hitting her head in the process. The child cringed, feeling a warm substance coat the back of her neck like a wet blanket. She reached back, only to pause as she felt the warm sensation on her fingertips. Looking at her hand, she saw her fingers were now covered the the red liquid. The back of her head was throbbing now, but she didn't notice it to much. Her attention was shifted back to her mother, who's screaming filled the whole house. She was being held down under the grip of this 'William' fellow, squirming and fighting to get away. She sat there frozen, helplessly watching as thr knife he held was raised. She saw it all, his grin, the terror in her mother's eyes, the evil in his, everything. Within a second of rasijg it, the knife was brought right back down, piercing through her mother's chest as if it were nothing but a slice of cake. He ripped the knife out, the silver metal now stained in a crimson red. Lexi gasped, only to have the knife plunged back into her.
over....
....and over.....
......and over
Bunny stood there, horrified as she watched her mother's struggles slowly stop. She could hear the unnatural gasping coming from her mother, her screams turning into wheezing as blood filled her lungs. Her nightgown was now covered in her own blood, now becoming surrounded by the pooling liquid. The man had ripped his knife out of her chest once agaim, this time getting off the woman. The bright light in Lexi's eyes was no longer there, replaced by a dull, lifeless haze instead. Her arms dropped to her sides, never to move again as she went fully limp against the floor. It was as if she was nothing but a marionette on strings, awaiting it's puppeteer. The man just stood there, staring at the body of his former friend. That sickening grin never left his face, in fact it only grew as he stopped to catch his breath. If there's anything Lexi could do, she definitely would put up a fight. Through, you can say that's what made it more amusing.
'...m..ama'
He turned his attention back to Bunny, who was slowly crawling over to her mother's body. Man, this child is such an idiot. Yet you can't really blame her, she's way to young to have any real sense of danger. All she knows is mama, that mama is her safety. He watched as she made her way over, sitting on her knees as she stared at her mother. Her knees became soaked in the blood of her own mother, but she didn't care. Her mama was hurt, very badly hurt. Her mama needed to get up, so that she can get better. She reached out, her hand trembling as she placed it on her mother's chest. Her eyes widened as she noticed it wasn't rising, just sitting still. She crawled closer to her mother, ignoring all the blood as she placed her head against her chest. She closed her eyes, trying to listen for her mother's heart.
one second
two seconds
three second
ten...
She stood up, hyperventilating as she slowly backed away from her mother. Her heartbeat....it was...gone. Her mother was gone, her mother was GONE!! She felt the tears streaming down her face, collapsing down to her knees and she sobbed. Her figure was nothing but a temping mess as she hicuped and gasped, sobbing into her hands as the man stood was watched. He found it amusing, yet familiar. He couldn't help but laugh, enjoying the sight of the child's misery. After a bit, he finally grew tired of seeing the girl crying. Going over, she was harshly snatched up by her arm. The girl; however, continued to cry as she tried to pulled away. It was pointless to try, afterall she was nothing but a child and he was a full grown adult. She was so afraid of him that she couldn't dare to look, covering her face with her other arm as he held her up. Her constant crying annoyed Willaim, she cried way to much.
"Shut up already"
She didn't listen, or rather didn't hear him. His grin faced, eyes growing darker with malicious intentions. Once again, he told the girl to hush, even snatching her a little closer. She just fell to the floor, curing into the fetal position as she cried even louder. Her head hurt, her mama was dead, she was terrified, all this emotions were just way to much for her to handle. She was borderline screaming, irritating the man to his breaking point.
"I said shut UP!"
The wind was knocked out of her lungs as she received a heavy kick to the stomach, flipping her over on her back. She felt like throwing up, clutching her stomach as it pulsed with pain. Her eyes were filled with tears, blurring her vision so much that she couldn't see straight. All that she could see was the faint glimmer of knife raised above her. Eyes widening, she let out an ear piercing scream as it was violently brought down. The knife priced through her stomach, her moth being covered before she could scream anymore. The pain she was feeling was excruciating, feeling some of the blood rise up to her throat. She grabbed the man's wrist, trying desperately to push his hand away. In return, he twisted the knife, bring more pain to the small child. Her screams were muffled, tiny feet kicking against the floor as she fought with all her strength. However, she quickly found herself growing more tired as the seconds ticked away. The pain in her stomach was quickly fading away, being replaced by a warm sensation that covered it instead, slowly spreading to her sides and back. She felt her eyes closing, wanting to take a nap. She could hardly see anything now, in fact her vision was growing darker and darker by the second. She couldn't even tell if she was moving anymore, her body just felt so numb. In fact, all she could really hear was the sound of a faint, muffled music box. She recognized the tune of Pop goes the weasel from anywhere. The sound was almost comforting as it lured her off into a nap, a nice, comforting, nap.
