Chapter Fifty-Five
(Candle Wax)
Korri POV
We walk through the cave for what feels like eternity.
The cave itself looks as if it were made out of candle melted wax, there were the old-timey stick candlesโtwo inches wide and two feet tall; all that illuminates the tunnel wallsโshoved in each room.
There is one room, that splits off four ways or more, and we would go down one of those passages and come across another room identical or similar to the one before it, and repeat.
My injured leg feels burnt. And feels like a thousand needles pressing into it all at once.
"Hey," Mars says after a moment. "You okay?"
"Yup." I force a smile.
But I can't help but favor my left leg.
Ugh.
"All good."
He clearly doesn't believe me, and frowns. "Okay, 'cause if you need to stop, we can."
"All good." I repeat.
"You sure?"
"I said I was fine."
We walk for a few more miles before my sore leg gives and I fall, my leg hurting ten times worse than before.
Ugh.
AND THERE'S DIRT IN MY EYES!!!
ARE THE GODS AGAINST ME OR SOMETHING?!
OWWWWW
It hurts dammit!
"Korri? You okay?" Mars asks. "Can you stand?"
"I'll try," But I fail miserably.
"Nope, guess not."
"But I'll resort to crawling? At least I can still do that." If necessary.
"No." Mars frowns. "If you cannot walk, then we shall turn back."
"But we can't." I argue. "This is a labyrinth, we need to make it through."
No you won't. A little voice in the back of my head whispers. You can't even walk. How could you make it out of a freaking labyrinth? But... you also can't, because of THIS.
The pain goes from just barely bearable, to way past tenfold.
I try not to scream, but I fail.
"What?" Mars asks, the concern in his voice overwhelming.
But it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
We are both dragged away, screaming and struggling.
But I eventually go unconscious after being banged in the head by the stones on the ground.
