"What! And Lars is still in space!?" Sadie exclaimed as she held Steven by his shirt over the counter.

Steven and I went to meet Sadie in The Big Donut early this morning to explain the situation with Lars.

"Yeah...he is, but don't worry he's with some very nice gems who were in the run from their HomeWorld overlord" Steven casually explained.

Sadie groaned in disparity.

"Oh Larsss"

I pated her on her puffy blonde hair, not know any other way of comforting her.

"Don't fret Sadie he's in safe hands besides we could see him anything through Lion"

"At least he's kind of alive" Sadie said trying to think positive despite the tears in her eyes.

"You told his parents...right?" She asked.

I looked at Steven.

"Patents?" I asked. Steven nodded.

"You're kind of my practice run for that" Steven admitted.

We left the Big Donut to go tell Lars' parents the news. After walking for a few seconds we met up with a crowd of people. We stopped to see what all the commotion was about.

"-Am I right about it?" A small nanny asked.

The nanny talked about Mayor Dewey not being a good Mayor, I could see that Steven was getting nervous.

"Steven. I'm going to Lars' parent's house" Sadie told him.

"Ok, we'll catch up with you" He replied.

"It was nice meeting you Y/n" Sadie waved goodbye.

"You too! And good luck with his parents!" I waved back.

"And that is why you should vote for me! Your favourite Nanafua for Beach City" Nanafua spoke causing the people to cheer.

"When I say 'Do we want Dewey?' You say 'Dewey? Do we want Dewey?"

"No!" The crowd shouted.

"Do we want Dewey?"

This time the town people raise your hands and shouted 'No!'.

While this was happening Steven used a small device in his hand typing words.

"I don't know, Universe. This doesn't look good" Mayor Dewey said, looking at his window where angry protesters were yelling at him.

"How about this?" Steven asked holding up as sigh saying 'Dewey's Great ♡'

"That's great but I need more" Mayor Dewey told him.

"Gosh, I never had an opponent before. Even when I ran for mayor of High School I ran unopposed. Probably because I made up the position"

'Of course he did' I thought.

"If only I could have warned you about the abduction stuff sooner then everything would have been fine" Stevens said.

"I've really dropped the ball"

I placed my hand on his shoulder.

"Don't beat yourself up like that Steven. If it wasn't for me agreeing with the idea for collecting the humans' none of this would have happened"
I explained.

"You're right Universe, Ms Diamond this is all your fault. Ha" Mayor Dewey laughed.

This caused me to narrow my eyes at him.

'You know what. I honestly think Nanafua would make a better mayor'

"How about we call an impront to a town meeting on the Broadwalk. We'll tell everyone what happened, how you weren't involved at all and everyone will feel better and vote for you in the next election" Steven suggested.

Mayor Dewey agreed to in saying the ball was back in Steven's court.

"So in conclusion, mayor Dewey had nothing what-so-ever to do with the abductions" Steven said through the megaphone.

"Everything was my fault because I unknowingly provided some space gems with a list of names and everyone endanger"

Steven nudged me and I took the megaphone.

"Steven isn't the only one here to blame. I also went along with the Diamond's idea to collect the humans. So I do apologize for that"

I gave him back the megaphone.

"Mayor Dewey would never do anything purposely endanger the town. He basically keeps a low profile and doesn't get involved in much of anything" Steven concluded.
This caused mayor Dewey to sweat nervously.

"Yeah well, maybe he should be involved!" A citizen shouted.

"He's the mayor!" Another shouted.

Soon enough everyone started to shout.

"Thanks for listening and please vote for him for the next Beach City Mayor elections" Steve said.

Mayor Dewey took the megaphone from Steven and generously laughed.

"Wow this whole abduction business was a really close call, wow" He said wiping his sweat off his forehead causing it to go in Steven's face.

"But look around you. Everyone is safe and accounted for"

"That's not true! What about my friend Lars?" Sadie questioned.

"Who?" He asked.

This caused me to facepalm.

'Well he dug his own grave now he got to lay in it'

"Wha-? Lars! Lars Barriga?! Mister and Mrs Batriga's son!
Did you even know, he was still missing? Did you know he was somewhere in space? What kind of mayor does not know where his own people are lost in space?!" Sadie steamed with teats in her eyes.

Mrs Barriga began to cry, her husband there comforting her.

"The Donut boy?" Mayor Dewey asked himself, he moved the megaphone away for his mouth.

"Is that's why the Donut Store was closed this morning?" He whispered to us.

"Yeah but-"

"Do not worry. I will do everything time in my power to hire a new Donut boy" Mayor Dewey said with a smile.

This caused the crowd to boo at him.

Steven facepalm while I crossed my arms and looked at him unimpressed.

The crowd continued to boo at him and someone even threw a tomato at his face.

It was time for the Speech-A-Palooza and I was behind the stage on my phone Steven had gotten for me.

'Harry Potter? That seems interesting' I thought.

I looked up to see Steven and mayor Dewey looked extremely tired had red eyes and bags underneath them.

"My word. You two look terrible" I told them shocked at their appearance.

Before mayor Dewey went up on stage Steven hugged him.

I walked up to Steven.

"I don't know how you do it Steven" I told him.

"Do what?" He asked.

"You helping him. Can't you see this is a fight you can't win? He's clearly not fit to lead these people"

"Aw come on Y/n. I know he can do it he just needs a little push"

I sighed and looked back at my phone.

"I hope you're right Steven"

Mayor Dewey began his speech saying how everyone blamed him and how he's the only one who can handle the pressure of being mayor. This caused a few people to clap.

Nanafua openly agreed that she blamed him for many things. She then said instead of pointing fingers at him that the whole town should come together and take responsibility together this caused everyone to cheer at her.
(Lol she pulled a reverse uno on him 😂)

Dewey seeing that Nanafua was a better leader than him, redraw from the race, automatically giving the position of mayor to Nanafua.

Dewey walk of the stage and Steven ran after him.

"Mayor Dewey what are you doing? You can't just throw the election like that. We could have still win"

"Well I know it's not very traditional to do that in the middle of a debate, but why drag it up?" He asked shrugging his shoulder.

"We could have won!" Steven yelled.

"I really believe in you! I really beloved in us!"

"Well, you wrong. What do you want me to say?" Dewey asked?

"How about, 'I'm sorry we were in this together and I let you down'?" Steven suggested.

"Come on Universe. You know she's going to be  a better mayor that me it was the right thing to do"

We all looked back to Nanafua as she smiled and waved to the people who were cheered her name of and over again for their new mayor.

"I guess but... I still fell betrayed. That's probably how Connie feels" Steven said finally realizing.

I put my hand in his puffy hair.

"Is that the same girl who was with the Crystal Gems? And the reason why you felt upset the other day?" I asked.

He nodded. We watched as Dewey walked off, saying something about finding a new job. Steven takes his phone and tried to call Connie.

Later that day we were back at Steven's house.

I had changed into some nightclothes.

I could see Steven still trying to call Connie.

I sighed feeling sorry for him.
I would have gone on my phone but sleep was creeping up on me.

I snuggled into the couch with.y blanket.

"Goodnight Steven"
