She's been slamming her axe in the trees for two hours now. I watch as she swings her axe again. Her eyes were screaming worry and rage. I turn my head. How long can a mortal girl go on like this? Her arms were shaking. Sweat was pouring down her hands.

"What a fool." I turn.

"Astrid, you alright?" I hear.

I turn. I see Stoick the Vast walking up. The boy's father, presumably one of the best chieftains this side of the archipelago but they're all the same in my eyes. Humans are all the same. Cockroaches under our feet. Still... I walk closer to them.ย

"We looked everywhere we know of." Astrid says.

"And we'll search to the end of the earth." Stoick the Vast says.

I do not know why they are pursuing one small boy. A boy who has evaded me for many times. There have been so many times when I could've taken him to the afterlife, but overall, he does not succumb to me. Me, Hel, the Goddess of Death. Daughter of Loki. Why trouble themselves for the sake of one human?

"Yeah. I know." Astrid says.

The ends of the Earth? Heh. It's quite father than that. I know just where Njord dropped him off. A place remote. A place more beautiful than Valhalla but more prison-like than all of Niflheim. I let out a breath. He is never coming back. He can not come back.
