Ichi generally is cheerful and hyperactive. He tends to shout to express his thoughts and goals, much to the annoyance of some of those around him, and often in spite of other pokemon's opinions. One of the first examples of this is when he conveyed his goal of becoming the region's top one pokemon during the time where he and the other starter pokemons watched a live battle of their region's champion and told other pokemon who jeered at him to be quiet.

Ichi's simple yet outgoing personality is frequently played to comedic effect during more serious situations. However, his strong tenacity interests Harry enough to pick the Charmander as his starter pokemon and his determination also leads him to possess an indomitable will. Ichi's determination to never give up, added with his own steel fortitude during grueling or harsh battles, is a trait that becomes the basis for others to acknowledge him, such as his teammates. However, Ichi has shown to have struggled accepting his lack of resemblance being a pokemon would do with his trainer, using his boisterous attitude as a front to hide his insecurity.

Because of his upbringing at the Battle Maison, Ichi frequently receives cruel opinions and insults from almost everyone he meets. To counteract this, Ichi appears to have developed a slightly sarcastic nature as he tries to defend himself. The regularity at which he's exposed to such degrading remarks is such that he now has a certain immunity to them, shown when he easily brushes them off without getting overly annoyed. However, Ichi can still become irritated when others deeply insult his fellow teammates; he will not hesitate to confront them as he tries to defend his friends.

While an immensely endearing and honest pokemon, who can win over people and pokemons with his tenacity, Ichi is also quite stupid. Lux would often call him 'Madcap' when he tries to suppress his anger for him, but the saying is ultimately true. He stereotypically embodies a muscle head with little to no brains, despite his small stature. His constant blurting out of things with little to no tact or care for the situation at hand, and his blind trust of pokemon in the region despite evidence to the contrary has made him very easy to fool, depending on the situation. His trusting, truthful nature has been taken advantage of by the others and he nearly spoke his guilt without thinking of the consequences while he was on the edge. He is also very ignorant about many things in the region and on its functions that trainers should know with most of his teammates incredulous that he doesn't know so many simple things.

Ichi is a male who spends all his time on training, and he will keep it that way until he gets stronger than he thinks, which he thought that he deserves a shot of being one of the pokemon up in the ranks. The pokemon wants a challenge anytime and anywhere he wants, bringing him to a conclusion that he is persistent of it and won't dare back down from a challenge. He does enjoy a great blue berry pie, he would die for it even if it's not a pie as long as it is blue berry.

Losing to someone really pains Ichi a lot, making him realize how far he still was on being close to his goal. He gets flustered a lot if you get him tongue-tied. He hated the fact that he can't be like others and would try his best for it, but it seemed like his thoughts are still lost as he was indeed far from getting what he wanted to be. Of course annoying him will just make him blow a fuse.

Ichi has a pair of fingerless gauntlets that can withstand amount of heat from a pokemon's flames and he used the small slot in the middle to put his Mega Stone and Life Orb. He considered himself as a fighter and had chosen it for himself because he wanted them to see how he was serious about beating them up to a pulp.
