THE NEXT MORNING, EDEN WOKE up unexpectedly in a sweat. her head was pounding and she felt an overwhelming feeling in her throat. when she checked her phone, she realized that it was only four in the morning. it was a given that she wasn't going to be able to go to school later after feeling anything like this, but she didn't want to miss her poetry class. the class has really started to grow on her. it may be because chris is also in the class, but there's still a lot more to it.

eden carefully pulled herself out of her bed, in desperate need of using the bathroom. but the second she stood, up a rush of dizziness fell over her. her first instinct was to sit back down on her bed, though when she did that, she felt the sudden urge to throw up. her stomach ached and she immediately got back up and ran to the bathroom as fast as she could. eden hated getting sick, especially when it came down to this.

after throwing up, she noticed that she felt only a fraction better. she couldn't even get up off of the floor due to how nauseated she was. there was no way eden could possibly see herself showing up to school after this.

but where did the sickness even come from? she was perfectly fine after getting home yesterday. was there something in her food? whatever it was, eden couldn't bring herself to care that much right now. all she had to do was somehow make it back to her bed, so she could rest.

WHEN EDEN DIDN'T SHOW UP FOR class, chris figured it had to do with their argument yesterday. it wasn't outrageous but it still left a sour taste in his mouth. he wished he could just tell her he was sorry, but how could he really be when he was only just trying to protect her? shawn wasn't at all a good person and would be one of the very last people he would have allowed eden to speak to, and he hated the fact that out of everyone in this school, he had to be her pen pal too.

when he informed her about her new little "boyfriend", she played it off as a joke and even accused him of being jealous. which he may have been a little, but it hardly mattered if he was jealous or not. shawn was still the same kind of guy either way, and eden was falling for it.

he tried to get through the class, but all he could think about was eden and shawn. the whole class it was his fucking face reoccurring over and over again in his mind. it did make him jealous and, even more so, pissed off. it didn't make sense how eden was able to even look at him and decide to willingly be around him. especially when every time he thought of him, his skin crawled.

shawn, of course, wasn't the only person he had in his mind. if that was the case, chris would have thought something was seriously wrong with him. eden had taken up almost double the space in his mind. he came to the conclusion that his constant thoughts of eden may have been a result of her current absence in front of him. he missed her a lot more than he hoped, and he couldn't stop himself from pulling out his phone, knowing he probably shouldn't, and texted her.

chris wasn't able to see the answer from eden because the second he sent it, his phone got snatched and turned off by mrs. walker. "c'mon, chris, you know the rules, why do we have to keep doing this? you can get it after class," she interrupted herself to call chris out in front of the class, though it sadly wasn't anything shocking at this point. despite his grades, chris thought mrs. walker was a great teacher and he loved having her so much, but she was unfortunately one of those phone hounds. it was like her only flaw as a teacher. she was one to not hesitate when laying her hands on your phone if she caught you with it, and chris knew that. it was most definitely his third time this week that she'd taken his phone during class, and he saw the agitation in her gaze.

he couldn't even think of how annoying his phone getting taken was because all he could think about were the different responses he would get from eden. and that's what he did for the rest of the class. he started thinking of ideas that they could do if she said yes, and ways to maybe convince her if she said no. he knew the only reason she wouldn't want him over was because she could get him sick, but he truly couldn't care less. he just really wanted to see her again.

the last five minutes of class were insanely boring, more boring than it has ever been if he was being honest. even before eden had shown up, he'd never felt the need to sleep after a class more than he had this period. how was he supposed to function the rest of the day after this?

eventually, the bell rang, and a few seconds after, mrs. walker called for him over the sounds of dismissing students, "christopher?" he responded with a face that said he was listening, even though he probably wasn't actually going to retain anything she said next. "this is the third time this week, if i catch you on it one more time, you are getting lunch detention. i don't want to do this, but apparently, me taking it from you isn't doing anything."

"that's fine, mrs. walker. i understand." though he didn't quite understand, as he was only half listening to her words. mostly because of the adrenaline he had thinking about opening eden's texts when he finally got his phone back. and that's exactly what had happened. he turned on his phone and saw the messages from her on his lock-screen, clicking it to see what she had said.
