VALERIE AND CHAR WERE FINALLY filling their stomachs with the most delicious food. french bread pizza... it was char's idea to stop at the ice rink on their way back from a very needed target run. they were originally on the hunt for the newest hozier vinyl. after they found it, it is pretty easy to assume that their shopping trip didn't end there. so now they're sitting in char's room, eating the french bread pizza they bought, listening to all things end, and talking about skating.

"i almost spun in the air today! like how was that even real?!" char squealed with her fingers intertwined with the others, non-stop thinking about the moment since she took off her skates. even if her ass was still aching hours later.

"you almost landed it too!" valerie joked, alluding to the fall that caused them to leave. it just lead to another wave of laughter between the two. at this point you couldn't even hear the heavenliness of hozier's voice anymore.

valerie felt very accomplished along with char, as she was the one who taught her everything she knows. it hasn't been the easiest since she's not exactly trained to teach others, but char has taken in all the information and learning all the skills exceptionally well. maybe even faster than valerie...

"i'm so glad to have you as my teacher. i mean you're also my bestie, but that's like whatever now." she laughed again, giving valerie a humongous hug, knowing that last sentence was far from the truth.

it wasn't always true though, of course. they were, in fact, quite the opposite for a long time.

char was a little popular girl in elementary and part of middle school. despite her clearly having the fakest of friends, valerie was jealous of her social status. she tried everything in her power to become friends with her and the other kids like her, but they didn't seem to care for her all that much. valerie specifically hated char for it because she was the one who would make fun of her. her lunch box wasn't as cool as theirs, or she couldn't sing as well as them (in elementary school?), and lastly she never stopped talking about her "dumb" ice skating tricks.

that's when valerie decided that if she wanted to be popular, she would have to become popular all on her own. telling herself that there was no way she was going to become friends with people like them. but here she was, sitting next to the one and only charlotte clark. 

"can we talk about those guys at the rink? you gotta admit they were kinda cute." char mentioned out of nowhere, sorta knowing it would spark something in valerie. whether that spark would be good or bad wasn't determined.

"yeah, the ones who almost hit us like a billion times with their pucks?" it was a bad spark.

she had this unspoken hatred for hockey players that char knew of even before today, so the second she saw the pucks and sticks, she immediately decided to hate them too. it was a horrible judgement, but she had her reasons. wether those reasons were enough to hate a whole sport or not is a different story.

"c'mon, valerie, it's a public rink they had every right to be there," she defended, referring to the already loathed hockey players.

"the rink is huge for a reason, there was no reason for them to be that close to us! plus they had that weird ass camera. like do you think they were recording us? that's just weird." her nose scrunched up in disgust, wanting nothing more than to move on from the topic.

"they were just recording themselves, i promise. i was watching them the whole time."

"is that bc you think they were cute." valerie attempted to bring back the lighthearted atmosphere, almost succeeding before char brought it back down again.

"no, they're not really my type." she shrugged, telling the truth.

"well they were definitely not my type. also most of them looked very alike to me, that's just weird to say."

char easily caught the slyest hint of a lie in there. it wasn't even able to be considered a half lie, but she still caught it. and deciding not to mess up their little hangout any further, she zipped her lips about the subject for the rest of the night. though, maybe she just got the wrong message? she may never know.

four hours later.
