It sounds extremely formal in this bit, yet this part has a totally different register. Not exactly a mistake as that is more of a "stylistic" aspect, but could definitely use some polishing, which is why I can see he's still a beginner overall.

〔 SHIRAISHI UMIKO ﹕ JAPANESE TEACHER 〕 Don't take it as an insult, though: if anything I'm happy to see it. You're studying and learning well, so this is just to be expected. Continue studying this way and your sentences will sound much better in the future.

The sentences are extremely well constructed but a bit too personalized and quite polished, too natural to come from someone not well versed in the language just yet, which lets out your actual proficiency in Japanese. I would not expect this freedom of expression from someone with a very basic level... See what I mean?

〔 MOMOE ﹕ "STAFF" 〕 In their defense, the interviewers did not ask them anything related to proficiency in the language as they were expected to do. They shouldn't have been allowed in but the transgression comes from the production itself, so I fail to see how it is worth noting this aspect just now.

FINALLY BACK FROM THIS HELL OF A HIATUS... I will post updates every 3-4 days from now until the end of the episode, since the rest is mostly done in my drafts. Though again, I'm in exam period until July 15th - even though mine end earlier than that, but better be safe than sorry!

This being said, I have specific criteria for how the grades were judged, and while the VOCAL AUDITION GRADES seem easier to understand, the ones for the JAPANESE TEST are... Huh! Quite the weird thing. To explain what I mean...
