Why the fuck is Jungkook doing this?
While his scouts are out trying to find Mr. Kim's location, Jungkook is doing his own thing. This is a stupid, stupid idea. he's had enough of the memories. Maybe this is exactly what he needs to do. Jungkook approaches the sign, watching a couple giggle while hanging their locks on it.
He remembers the day he took Taehyung here clearly, almost as if it just happened. In a way, it just did. If he sees it so much in his head, in a way it's like it happened yesterday. Sometimes when Jungkook's home, he calls out Tae's name as if he's still alive.
The thought makes his heart lurch, but he forces it down to instead approach the sign. The couple shares a kiss before entwining hands and moving away, presumably to go spend the rest of this nice day together. Jungkook looks up at the sunny sky, letting out a long sigh.
Tae would've loved a day like this, wouldn't he? He would've loved to take a picture of the sun illuminating the 'LOVE' sign. Jungkook frowns at the thought of Tae kneeling with his cute Canon camera, snapping shots of every single pretty thing in sight, Jungkook included.
He shakes himself out of the memory, approaching the metal. The street is busier than usual, but he's not afraid of being recognized. Not only can he overpower anyone who comes across him, but most people don't know him. He's just a nobody as far as they know. Although he's sure once he starts crying at the lock him and Tae put on here together he'll draw some attention. But that's only a maybe. Normally New Yorkers don't care.
Jungkook stops in front of the side they put it on, sucking in a deep breath. His eyes locate Jimin and Y/n's rather quickly. So they really do have one, and it's still here. Part of Jungkook wants to destroy it. Chuck it in the river. Throw it at them when he sees them again. But for some reason he can't. He's too tired to, not to mention it feels wrong.
Funny how that works, huh? He's killed people for the smallest reasons like pissing him off, but he can't take a lock off a sign without feeling bad. Maybe because he wouldn't want someone to do that to him and Tae's lock. At the thought he almost jumps. Is he... implying that Jimin and Y/n's relationship is similar to his and Tae's?
No, no that's impossible. That can't be true. Jungkook grits his teeth, looking at the other locks instead. He scans over each one, reading them carefully until a golden lock catches his attention. He feels his throat go hoarse as he stares. It's turned away from him, so he can't see the names, but he doesn't have to.
Jungkook takes another step forward, raising his shaky hand to the sign. His fingers brush over the hot metal, turning it around. There it is. Jungkook and Taehyung. The lock that symbolizes their love. But that's just it... their love is gone. It'll forever live on in Jungkook's heart.
"I'm sorry," he whispers, taking a key out of his pocket. He never thought he'd need it, he just kept it as a reminder that they have a love lock together. But here he is, about to do the unthinkable. Jungkook sinks the key inside the lock, twisting while tears cloud his vision.
Jungkook tries not to make any noises, but he can't help the small whimper that passes his lips. As soon as he hears the click, he drops the key. It clatters to the ground, Jungkook not bothering to pick it up to instead take the lock off the wall. He cradles it against his chest, crying softly.
"I'm so sorry..." he repeats, knowing it won't do any good. Jungkook wobbly walks away, ignoring any stares that might come his way. He navigates down the familiar concrete pathways until he gets to the portside, leaning against the closest railing and looking down at the body of water below him.
Jungkook looks at the taunting water, the Atlantic Ocean shimmering under the sunlight. He presses his lips into a fine line, his grip tightening on the lock. Without giving himself a chance to think about it, he kisses the lock... then tosses it into the water.
He lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding, his tears seemingly stopping. Jungkook watches the lock float in the ocean, quickly drifting out of view. He sniffles, wiping his tears away. So, this is it, huh? It's almost like a huge weight just got taken off his chest. Why? Maybe this is what he needed all this time.
Jungkook leans against the railing, looking up at the sky. No one's around, so he lets out a breath. "I miss you," he says. It's only the truth. Taehyung was the light of his life... and now he's gone because of his world. He just shakes his head, refusing to cry again. For Tae.
"I love you so much honey, but I know you're looking down right now, smiling," he says. His wish not to cry is starting to get hard but he manages to resist. "It feels like you're still here. Maybe that's why it took me so long. But I want you to know I always think of you. Every second of every day."
He stares up at the blue sky for a few more moments, then turns away. Jungkook doesn't look back, he just walks. He walks and walks until he can't walk anymore. For the first time in months, he feels okay. Not great, not good, but not bad. He feels okay. Jungkook shakily smiles, his eyes swollen from crying.
"Goodbye, Kim Taehyung..."
