-he has PTSD due to the fire that killed his husband and is very traumatized by it, so much that he has a phobia of fire.

-he has nightmares and night terrors of the fire and sometimes when he wakes up from a night terror, he's not actually awake, he's still having the night terror

-he's on medication for his night terrors but due to his dyslexia, he sometimes forgets to take it.
