•Chapter ten P2•
~Asylum Part two~
____________________________
Sam pushed the Asylum door open, it made a loud creaking noise as it went. He looked back at Dean who had the handle of August's carrier in one hand, and the EMF detector in the other. He also carried the duffel bag on his shoulder.
Sam turned on his flashlight, Dean turned on the EMF Detector, then they began walking through the halls.
"Getting readings?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, big-time." Dean said, looking down at August who had gotten her pacifier into her mouth.
"This place is orbing like crazy." Sam stated, holding the camera in his other hand.
"There's probably multiple spirits out and about." Dean stated.
"And if these unrecovered bodies are causing the haunting?" Sam said.
"We got to find them and burn them." Dean said. "Just be careful. The only thing that makes me more nervous than a pissed-off spirit is a pissed-off spirit of a psycho killer." He said.
They then started walking again, but stopped as they heard something walk behind them. When they turned, they of course, saw nothing.
August lightly whined, Dean lifted her carrier a little, bringing his hand down to her and gently stroking her arm with two fingers, still holding onto the EMF Detector.
They made their way into a bigger hallway. Sam went off into a side room, Dean stayed out in the hallway looking around.
All of a sudden, Dean heard Sam gasp loudly, then yell for him.
Dean ran in, set August's carrier down, along with the bag and started quickly rummaging through it.
"Shotgun!" Sam yelled.
"Sam, get down!" Dean yelled, rushing forwards with the gun.
Sam ducked and Dean shot the spirit of the woman in front of his brother. She vanished.
August immediately started whining, Dean hurried back to her. He got on his knees in front of her, his hand coming to her chest as he gently rocked the carrier.
"That was weird." Sam said.
"Yeah, you're telling me." Dean said, picking up his daughters carrier, then the duffel bag as August began calming down again.
"No, Dean, I mean, it was weird that she didn't attack me." He said, catching up with his brother.
"It looked pretty aggro from where I was standing." Dean said.
"She didn't hurt me. She didn't even try." Sam stated. "If she didn't want to hurt me, then what did she want?" He questioned.
The two men stopped walking as they heard whimpering coming from a room beside them. They looked in and saw a flipped over table, the sound coming from behind it.
Sam turned on the flashlight, Dean was quickly to pass the carrier so he could point his shotgun.
Sam held onto the handle of the baby carrier tightly, still pointing the flashlight as they headed towards the table.
The brothers glanced at each other, before Sam kicked the table, moving it out of the way.
A blonde girl that was hiding behind it gasped and cried, backing herself into the corner.
"It's alright. We're not gonna hurt you." Dean told her, lowering his shotgun. "It's okay. What's your name?"
"Katherine." The girl, Katherine, answered, slowly standing up. "Kat."
"Okay. I'm Dean. This is Sam, and August." Dean introduced.
"What are you doing here?" Sam questioned the girl.
"Um...my boyfriend, Gavin— "
"Is he here?" Dean asked.
"Somewhere." Kat stated. "He thought it would be fun, try and see some ghosts. I thought it was all just...you know...pretend." Kat wrapped her jacket around herself. "I've seen things. I heard Gavin scream, and— "
"Alright, Kat, come on." Dean stepped to her, gently helping her out of the corner where she stood. "Sam's gonna get you out of here, then we're gonna find your boyfriend." He told her.
"No, no. I'm not gonna leave without Gavin. I'm coming with you." Kat told them.
"It's no joke. It's dangerous." Dean told her.
"Says the guys carrying around a baby." Kat stated, and for a second, Dean went quiet.
"I have to find him." Kat said.
"Alright, I guess we're gonna split up, then." Dean said, his eyes going to his little girl.
Sam noticed.
"I got her, Dean. She's okay." He told him.
Dean hesitated for a second, looking to his brother, but he nodded.
~~~
"Gavin!" Sam called out as he walked down the hallway, carrying August's carrier with him while he shined his flashlight around. "Gavin!"
With Dean and Kat, they were doing the same thing.
"Gavin!" Kat called out. "Gavin!"
"I've got a question for you." Dean spoke up, turning to look at Katherine. "You've seen a lot of horror movies, yeah?"
"I guess so." Kat gave a light shrug.
"Do me a favor. Next time you see one, pay attention. When someone says a place is haunted, don't go in." He told her, then turned, continuing to walk.
Kat quickly followed.
Sam walked down the hallway, going towards the end, shining his flashlight. He then came to the last room where he saw a boy laying on the floor.
"Gavin?" He asked, coming over.
He set the carrier down beside him, and started shaking Gavin.
"Hey, Gavin." He said.
The boy's eyes opened, and he jumped up with a gasp when they landed on Sam.
"Hey, it's okay. Its okay. I'm here to help." He told him.
"Who are you?" Gavin questioned him.
"My name is Sam. We found your girlfriend." Sam told him.
"Kat? Is she alright?" Gavin asked as Sam helped him up.
"Yeah. She's worried about you." Sam said, picking up the baby carrier again. "Are you okay?"
"I was running." Gavin said. "I, uh, I think I fell."
"You were running from what?" Sam questioned, bringing his hand to August as she began to whine a little.
"There was— there was this girl. Her— her face...it was all messed up." Gavin said, obviously freaked out.
"Okay, listen, this girl— did she try to hurt you?" Sam asked.
"What? No, she, uh..."
"She what?"
"She kissed me."
Sam furrowed his brows, shaking his head.
"Um, but she didn't hurt you physically?" He asked.
"Dude, she kissed me." Gavin stated. "I'm scarred for life."
"Trust me," Sam chuckled. "It could have been worse. Now, do you remember anything else?" He asked.
"She, uh...actually, she tried to whisper something in my ear."
"What?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. I ran like hell." Gavin gave a light shrug.
Dean and Kat walked down the hallway, still looking, Dean shining his flashlight.
Suddenly, his flashlight started flickering. He gave a slight groan, shaking it.
"You son of a—" He cut himself off, letting out a sigh. "It's alright. I've got a lighter." He said.
He fished his zippo lighter out of his pocket, and lit the flame.
"Ow. You're hurting my arm." Kat spoke up.
"What are you talking about?" Dean turned to look at her as he wasn't even touching her.
Kat looked at Dean, fear forming in her eyes as she realized Dean wasn't touching her. Dean brought down the flame, the light shining on a hand tightly grasping Katherine's arm.
She screamed before she was dragged back into a room, the door slamming shut.
"Kat!" Dean yelled, running to the door and trying to pull it open.
"Let me out, please!" Kat cried from inside.
"Kat!" Dean yelled, still trying to get the door open, but it wasn't budging.
"Let me out!" Kat beat against the door. "Please!"
Dean grunted loudly as he pulled with all his strength, but the door still wasn't budging, and definitely not opening.
"Kat, hang on!" Dean yelled to her.
Kat backed away from the door as Dean tried getting his crowbar in between in. She backed up until she felt someone behind her. When she whipped around, no one was there.
She felt someone behind her again, and when she turned, there was the spirit of a man.
She let out a loud scream, backing away, only to be met with him again. She screamed again.
Sam and Gavin came running around the corner, Sam holding the carrier close to not shake it so much as he ran.
"What's going on?" He quickly asked as they ran up to Dean.
"She's inside with one of them." Dean stated, still trying to get the door open.
"Help me!" Kat screamed.
"Kat!" Gavin yelled.
"Get me out of here!"
"Kat, it's not gonna hurt you." Sam told her. "You have to face it. You have to calm down."
"She's got to what?" Dean questioned, looking back at Sam.
"I have to what?" Kat questioned.
"The spirits are trying to communicate. You've got to face it." Sam told her.
"You face it." Kat shot back.
"No, it's the only way you're gonna get out of there." Sam stated.
"No!"
"Look at it. That's all." Sam told her. "Come on. You can do it."
Kat stood with her back against the wall, the spirit was coming closer to her. She very slowly turned her head, looking at him.
The spirit leaned forwards, towards her ear, and whispered something.
"Kat?" Gavin asked as they heard nothing.
"I hope you're right about this." Dean told his brother as August began to whine.
"Yeah, me, too." Sam said.
Sam then gave Dean the carrier and Dean put his hand in August's grasp, letting her hold his fingers and hold his hand close to her chest.
The door then unlocked, and creaked open revealing Kat who was probably traumatized, but okay.
"Oh, Kat." Gavin breathed out.
Dean reached for her, pulling her out of the room, Sam rushed in with the flashlight. He came out as nothing was in the room.
"137." Katherine spoke up.
"Sorry?" Dean asked.
"It whispered in my ear 137." Kat said.
"Room number." The brothers said at the same time.
They got down on the ground, Dean set the carrier in between them.
"So if these spirits aren't trying to hurt anyone— " Sam started.
"Then what are they trying to do?" Dean finished.
"Maybe that's what they've been trying to tell us." Sam stated.
"I guess we'll find out." Dean said.
They then stood up.
"So, now, you guys ready to leave this place?" Dean asked the teens.
"That's an understatement." Kat said.
"Okay. You get them out of here. I'm gonna go find room 137." Dean told Sam, picking up the carrier.
He turned on his flashlight, and started down the hall, August quietly babbling as they went.
~~~
Dean walked down the hallway with August, he kept his eye on her, just trying to make sure she was alright.
He found room 137, and he pushed the door open, a chair laying in front of it.
He shined the flashlight around the destroyed room, he started going through stuff, the shotgun in his jacket, and the handle of the carrier in the crook of his elbow.
Dean walked towards a cabinet, moving random stuff out of the way. He opened the broken cabinet door and pulled out a journal.
"This is why I get paid the big bucks." Dean said grinning, looking to August who wasn't enthused with him. "Okay. No need for the attitude." He gave a light chuckle.
He set the journal down and began going through it.
"Patients Journal." He read from the front page.
He sat down on a stood, setting the carrier on his thigh, keeping his arm under the handle and holding onto the side of it.
August reached up, grasping onto his sleeve. Dean smiled at her, but kept going through the journal that had a lot of messed up crap in it.
"All work and no play makes Dr. Ellicott a very dull boy." Dean stated.
He looked up and around as he heard a noise. August whined a little a the uneasy feeling in the room. Dean looked down at her.
"Hey, it's okay. Daddy's not gonna let anything happen to you, I promise." He told her.
~~~
Dean walked down the hallway, slowly rounding the corner to see Kat and Gavin in the hallway, Kat pointing the shotgun at him.
Dean raised a hand.
"Just me." He said. "What are you still doing here?" He questioned. "Where's Sam?"
"He went to the basement. You called him." Gavin said.
"I didn't call him." Dean stated.
"His cellphone rang. He said it was you." Kat told him.
"Basement, huh?" Dean asked. "Alright." He looked down at August. "Watch yourselves. Watch my daughter, and I swear to god, if anything happens to her—"
"It's okay." Kat cut him off. "I used to babysit."
Dean hesitated, but gave Kat the carrier with August in it. He didn't want to leave her with some Teenagers, but he knew that she would probably be safer with them rather than with him while he was going towards the danger.
"We got her." Kat told Dean.
He hesitantly turned around, and went to go find his brother.
He walked down to the basement, calling out for Sam.
"Sammy?" He asked. "Sam, you down here? Sam!" He pointed his flashlight. "Sam!"
When he turned, Sam was standing right in front of him. He gasped and jumped.
"Man! Answer me when I'm calling you." He scolded his brother. "You alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Sam said.
"You know that wasn't me who called, right?" Dean told him.
"Yeah, I know. I think something lured me down here." Sam said.
"I think I know who— Dr. Ellicott. That's what the spirits have been trying to tell us." Dean said. "You haven't seen him, have you?"
"No. How do you know it was him?" Sam asked.
"Because I found his logbook. Apparently, he was experimenting on his patients. Awful stuff. Makes lobotomies look like a couple of aspirin." Dean chuckled.
"But it was the patients who rioted." Sam stated.
"Yeah, they were rioting against Dr. Ellicott." Dean stated. "Dr. Feelgood was working on some sort of extreme-rage therapy. He thought if he could get patients to vent their anger, then they'd be cured of it. Instead it only made them worse and worse and angrier and angrier. I'm thinking, what if his spirit is doing the same thing? To the cop, the kids in the '70s— making them so angry they become homicidal." Dean said.
Sam scoffed.
"Come on." Dean brushed past him. "We've got to find his bones and torch them."
"How? The police never found his body." Sam said.
"The logbook said he had some hidden procedure room down here where he'd work on his patients. So, if I was a patient, I'd drag him down here and do a little work myself." Dean said.
"I don't know. It sounds kind of—"
"What, crazy? Yeah, exactly." Dean said.
He walked down to the end and went into a side room. He looked around with his flashlight.
Sam walked in with his own flashlight.
"I told you I looked everywhere. I didn't find a hidden room." Sam told him.
"Well, that's why they call it hidden." Dean said.
He then went quiet.
"You hear that?" He asked.
"What?" Sam asked.
Dean walked around, following the noise. He found where it was coming from. It was air, blowing through a broken board in the wall.
"There's a door here." He stated, clicking off his flashlight.
Sam nodded and raised the shotgun at Dean.
"Dean." He said.
Dean looked back at Sam, his eyes shifting to the gun. He then noticed blood drip from Sam's nose.
Sam wiped it away with his sleeve.
"Step back from the door." He told him.
Dean stood up.
"Sam, put the gun down." Dean told him.
"Is that an order?" Sam questioned.
"It's more of a friendly request." Dean told him.
"'Cause I'm getting pretty tired of taking your orders." Sam raised the gun at Dead.
"I knew it." Dean nodded. "Ellicott did something to you, didn't he?"
"For once in your life, shut your mouth." Sam told him.
"What are you gonna do, Sam?" Dean questioned him. "The guns filled with rock salt. It's not gonna kill me." He stated.
Sam then shot Dean in the chest, sending him flying through the hidden door and into the room.
"No. But it'll hurt like hell."
Dean gasped, the air having been knocked out of him. He coughed and gagged a little as Sam came over to him.
"Sam. We've got to burn Ellicott's bones." He told him. "And all this will be over, and you'll be back to normal."
"I am normal. I'm just telling the truth for the first time." Sam said. "I mean, why are we even here? 'Cause you're following dads orders like a good, little soldier? 'Cause you always do what he says without question? Are you that desperate for his approval?"
"This isn't you talking, Sam." Dean said, reminding his brother and himself.
"That's the difference between you and me. I have a mind of my own. I'm not pathetic like you." Sam said.
"So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna kill me?" Dean questioned him.
"You know what? I am sick of doing what you tell me to do." Sam told him. "We're no closer to finding dad today than we were six months ago." Sam stated.
"Well, then here." Dean gave him his pistol. "Let me make it easier for you." He held it up to the man. "Come on. Take it." He held it up. "Real bullets are gonna work a hell of a lot better than rock salt. Take it."
Sam reached out and took the pistol, tossing the shotgun on the ground.
Sam then pointed the pistol at Deans face.
"You hate me that much?" Dean asked. "You think you can kill your own brother? Then go ahead. Pull the trigger."
Sam stared at him with hate.
"Do it!"
Sam pulled the trigger and the gun clicked.
It was empty.
He tried again, it clicked.
Dean then reached forward, grabbing his arm, pulling him down and punching him across the face, knocking him onto the floor.
Dean got up off the ground.
"Man, I'm not gonna give you a loaded pistol." Dean told him, coming over to him.
He then punched Sam, knocking him out.
He then laid his hand on his shoulder.
"Sorry, Sammy." He apologized, lightly grunting as he stood up straight, wincing.
He looked around in the hidden room, trying to find Dr. Ellicott's bones. He eventually found his rotted corpse shoved into a cabinet.
Dean groaned, jerking back at the stench that came from the cabinet.
"Oh, that's just gross." He said.
He went through the duffel bag, pulling out the salt and the lighter fluid.
He poured the salt over the bones, not noticing his flashlight flickering beside him.
"Soak it up." He said.
He then got the lighter fluid, pouring it over the bones. He still gagged at the smell.
Suddenly, a gurney table came flying towards Dean, ramming into him and throwing him back.
"Don't be afraid." Dr. Ellicott said as he appeared overtop of Dean, grabbing his face, electricity coming through his fingers.
"I'm going to help you." He spoke. "I'm going to make you all better."
Dean groaned loudly, reaching for his lighter. He grabbed it, slipped the lid, and lit it.
He then threw it into the cabinet, lighting the corpse.
Dr. Ellicott let go of Dean who scrambled away quickly.
Dr. Ellicott stared at his hands as they turned black, along with the rest of his body. He crumbled onto the ground, and he was gone.
Dean raised up a little, and so did Sam who was behind him.
The brothers looked at each other.
"You're not gonna try and kill me, are you?" Dean questioned.
Sam stared at him for a moment.
"No." He answered.
"Good." Dean nodded. "'Cause that would be awkward."
~~~
Dean held August to his chest as that stood outside of the asylum.
"Thanks, guys." Kat told them.
"Yeah, thanks." Gavin nodded.
"No more haunted asylums, okay?" Dean told them, gently patting Augusts back as she reached for his hair.
The two teens nodded, then turned, going to their car.
"Hey, Dean." Sam said.
Dean looked at him.
"I'm sorry, man." Sam apologized. "I said some awful things back there."
"You remember all that?" Dean asked, pulling August's hand down.
"Yeah." Sam nodded. "It's like I couldn't control it, but I didn't mean it— any of it." He shook his head.
"You didn't, huh?" Dean asked.
"No. Of course, not." Sam stated.
Dean made a face as nodded a little.
"Do we need to talk about this?" Sam questioned.
"No, no." Dean looked to August, gently bouncing her in his arms. "I'm not really in the sharing and caring kind of mood." He said, throwing the duffel bag into the impala. "I just want to get some sleep." He opened the back door, gently putting August in her car seat.
He buckled her in as she grasped onto his hands.
~~~
Dean laid in his bed asleep with the covers pulled up to about his mid-torso. He was shirtless, and August was asleep against his bare chest.
Deans arm was draped across the baby's lower back, and his other hand laid on her upper back.
August's cheek was smushed against Deans skin, and her small hands laid against his chest.
She was supposed to sleep in her foldable crib, but she was having a crying fit and wouldn't lay down. Dean was exhausted, and he wanted sleep. Then he remembered that sometimes, skin-to-skin contact could help.
So he shed his shirt, and held August against his bare chest, gently rocking her as she calmed down, feeling his heartbeat and intaking his warmth.
He then found himself laying in the bed with the baby, dozing off as she was already sound asleep.
On the nightstand, Dean's phone started ringing.
Sam woke up a little, but Dean was out cold, and August more than likely couldn't hear it.
"Dean." Sam said.
When Dean didn't answer, nor wake up, Sam reached over, grabbing his brothers phone and answering it.
"Hello?" He asked.
The person on the other end answered, and Sam sat up immediately.
"Dad?"
Thank you so much for reading!
