a/n: season 1 Dick Grayson, you will always be famous and own my heart

"I'm back!"

"You were gone almost a month! We have a new member and everything!" Robin exclaimed, running up to me with Wally and Kaldur close behind.

"Oops?" I laughed and was tackled to the floor by Wally. "Wally, get off me!"

"Don't leave me for that long again! Where were you all this time!?"

"Oh, the usual. She saved the universe from being eaten by a dude made of anti-matter, made me chuck a planet at it and then had a chapter written in the Book of Oa which is as old as the universe itself." Hal smugly said and joisted me up. "Could've done more but she got homesick and missed you guys."

"She made you throw a planet!?" Robin shrieked.

"He was the size of a moon and my battery was near empty! I had very limited options in space, okay?" I defended and he raised his hands in surrender. "I guess you could say I was feeling the aster..."

"You're finally getting it!" He smiled and I felt my face heat up.

"Alright, I have work to get to and cross my fingers that Carol accepts my date tonight." Hal called out and hugged me before pointing at his ring. "Call me if you need anything, okay?"

"Are you going to tell us, or do we have to keep guessing what led you to throw a planet at somebody?" Kaldur smirked.

"Okay, okay! So it all started when we got to Oa. As usual, Guy was being annoying so..."

"Nice reflexes."

"Learned a thing or two from training with you." Robin grinned, dodging my blasts as we both decided to head to the beach to train.

"I never asked... why the red and yellow when Batman only wears black?" I asked and he hesitated for a few seconds before sighing and gestured for me to fly down. "You don't have to answer if you don't want and I'm sorry for-"

"My parents. The night they died, they were wearing these exact colors... it's the same reason I'm Robin."

"They used to call you that?"

"My mom did." He chuckled, reaching out to remove his mask and I widened my eyes slightly. "I used to hate it, but now? Now I just wish I could hear it again."

"Sometimes we take things for granted and we never notice until it's not there anymore. I too had to learn it the hard way." I admitted and we both sat on the sand.

"You lost your parents too?"

"Robin, I'm banished from my home because I am a Red Lantern. I will never see my parents again for as long as I'm alive."

"You're kidding!?"

"I wish I was."

"But h-how did it happen?"

"I became a Red Lantern, Robin. Becoming a Lantern is one of the highest honor you can receive since my people only had one before... but I wasn't chosen by a green Ring." I simply said and laid down to look up at the clouds. "So I was banished and Hal was kind enough to take me in and train me."

"But what's the difference between-"

"Green emits willpower, red emits rage. To be worthy of a Red Ring, you have to feel great anger and allow it to consume you. I missed the only loophole I had years ago."

"What was it?" Robin wondered, turning to look at me and felt my ears get hot.

I've never seen eyes so blue before.

"I could've taken off the Ring at any moment before I said the oath and I would've been fine... but Atrocitus waited to say that until I was halfway through the oath and it was too late. So, now I can't take off the Ring unless I want to die and I can't risk the battery getting too low or it has severe side effects."

"Like?"

"Possibly suffering a heart attack. Don't tell the Team, but I almost died facing Krona. I could feel my heart giving out and I was coughing up blood and black goo."

"Goo?"

"Spoiled parts of my blood. It was a whole-"

"There you two are! We've been looking for you everywhere!" Artemis called out and I sat up.

"We've been taking a break from training. What's up?" Robin immediately slipped on his mask and stood up, outstretching a hand for me.

"The fair's in town. We were looking for you two so we can all go together!"

"You up for it, Zar?" Robin asked with a smirk and I nodded.

"I've never actually been to one... I've always been off-world whenever it comes to town."

"Oh, you're gonna love it!"

"You've never seen fireworks!?"

"Loud explosions scare me. And after Krona-"

"Oh, come on. I'll protect you." Robin teased and pulled me to the Ferris Wheel. "It'll be fun, Zar."

"Robin, I don't-"

"One, my name is Dick. Two, you can trust me." He assured and held out a hand. "You'll love it."

"Dick? That's a peculiar name." I smiled, sliding onto the booth.

"It's a nickname for Richard... it's stupid, I know."

"I kinda like it. It definitely suits you more than Richard." I laughed and his ears turned red. "What's that on your hand, by the way?"

"Cotton candy. Want some?"

"Do you remember the last time I ate some cotton-"

"This is different and I still can't believe Roy dared you to do it." Dick chuckled and stuffed a piece of cotton candy in my mouth. "Is it like the cotton balls you ate?"

"It vanished!"

"It does that. It's pure sugar."

"Did I miss anything when I was away?"

"Aside from Artemis joining? Not much. Maybe one or two missions, but that's about it."

"Oh..." My shoulders slumped and I turned to look at the view. "Your mentor won't be too happy about that."

"Batman? He knows you've been off-world. And when Hal says what you did on the next League meeting-"

"He will deem me too dangerous."

"Zar... you're not dangerous." Dick frowned and scooted closed to me. "You're our friend, remember that."

"Dick, that was one of the few times I used my Ring to its full capacity. My powers can exceed those that Hal has if I get too angry and-"

"Having powers isn't something to be scared of, Zar. This Team is full of people with abilities and they're not scared of it."

"Dick, I managed to hold literal anti-matter from leaving the Sun and destroying the universe."

"And I'm just mad I wasn't there to witness it. I'm sure it was awesome!" He laughed and an explosion was heard making me immediately cover my ears. "Hey, it's okay... it's just the fireworks I told you about."

"I don't like loud noises." I mumbled. "They scare me."

"You can hold my hand if you want. It'll be okay." He assured. I constructed a pair of earmuffs so I could steal hear him and held his hand tight. "See, everything's okay."

Slowly turning back to the fireworks, I was immediately in awe of all the colors and explosions in the sky.

"Consider me whelmed." I chuckled and he smiled. "We don't have this in Tamaran... normally when you hear an explosion, is because a war broke out. Which is odd because we are considered to be a peaceful race."

"Which is why they scare you." Dick realized and I nodded.

"Last time I heard one, I was with my best friend Koriand'r and her sister Komand'r. After that, I never saw them again."

"They died?"

"No... they're both Princesses of Tamaran, so they had to be relocated. I was a warrior's daughter, so I had to fight."

"At eight years old!?"

"Nine, and yes. We are trained from a young age to be warriors, Dick. I've been training to fight since I learned to walk."

"You didn't have a childhood?"

"I used to fight Kori when we were in Okara if that's what you mean?"

"No... that's not what I meant." He sighed and I frowned.

"Oh..."

"When we get back, I'm showing you one of my favorite games."

"As long as there's no explosions."

"Promise."

"Tag! You're it!"

"Wally, no cheating!"

"Then I can't win!"

"So don't!" Dick and I yelled, running away from Wally.

"Red, curfew!" Hal called out and stepped back when Dick and I sped past him. "What the-"

"Tag!" Wally cheered, tagging Artemis and she groaned immediately running after us.

"Hand-eye coordination and agility test, B. Can't talk now!" Dick called out, jumping on the couch as I hung onto the lamp.

"By playing tag?" Hal laughed and we nodded. "Why don't we ever do this in training, Spooky? It looks fun!"

"Where's Kaldur?" Batman asked, stifling a laugh.

"He went home about five minutes ago. He lost horribly." I waved it off and flew to the ceiling before Artemis could tag me. "Ha!"

"No cheating, Zar." She smirked.

"It's not cheating if you were born with the ability." I defended.

"Guys, it's three in the morning. Time for those that do not live here to go home. And those that do, bedtime." Hal crossed his arms and I landed in front of him. "Had a good day today?"

"Yeah." I smiled and glanced at Dick who was already standing beside me. "Best ever, actually."

"Ooh, Zar! Don't leave this." Wally said and threw me a plushie that Dick won earlier in the night at the fair. "We went to the fair today and it was so cool!"

"Time to head home, Red." Hal smiled.

"Hey, Zar... sorry about the fireworks again." Dick rubbed the back of his neck and I reached out to kiss his cheek before I could stop myself.

"Don't worry about it, Robin. I had fun."

"Huh... consider me whelmed then." His cheeks turned red and Bruce turned around to try and not laugh. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Sure thing, Boy Wonder."
