Mission: Mission Creek High

xvii. mission: mission creek high

"I got a new lab, I got a new lab. I got a new lab!" Davenport bragged as he led Adam, Bree, Chase, Leo, and Freya down a hallway to the new lab. It was in the shape of a hexagon with a honeycomb design. Freya smiled at the design outside the lab doors, because she designed the honeycomb design and the lights. Rather proud of herself for that.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. I think you mean, we got a new lab?" Bree protested.

"Excuse me. Did we pay to rebuild it?" Davenport asked.

"Do you sleep in a glass box?" Bree asked him and Freya grinned, chuckling.

Davenport pause, before chanting again. "We got a new lab, we got a new lab." Leo and Chase danced along with Davenport. Davenport stopped and gestured to the lab door. "And here it is."

The door opened to reveal the brand new upgraded lab.

"Whoa!" Freya gasped. She designed the purple hue lights around the lab and the hexagon flooring, but everything else was new to her. Everyone else was in amazement and shocked as they entered, also gasping at the sight.

"Guys, look at all these upgrades." Chase said in amazement. "Mr. Davenport, this place is amazing."

"Of course it is. I designed it." Davenport smiled

Leo and Freya looked at him. "Ahem."

Davenport sighed and reluctantly agreed. "Fine. WE designed it. We, we!" Freya smirked as Davenport sighed. "Upgraded capsules, bam!" He gestured to the three new capsules near the wall. "Quantum processing supercomputer, bam!" He gestured, leaning against the near supercomputer desk. "Four-dimensional combat simulator, bam!" Freya chuckled when Leo copied Davenport. "This, my friends, is what a multi-million dollar makeover looks like."

"Is there a mini fridge?" Adam asked.

Davenport shook his head with an annoyed smile. "No."

Adam muttered to Chase. "I bet our real dad's lab has a mini fridge."

"Hey, Leo, where's your work station?" Bree asked.

Leo took the table and gestured for everyone to follow. "This way, children."

Leo pressed a few buttons and his work station popped up from the floor. Freya smiled, happy to know he idea worked.

"Whoa!" Adam gasped.

The floor in the lab is compartmentalized, meaning we can store things in it." Leo explained and put an arm around Freya. "Designed by this girl right here."

"Every hexagon shape thing is my design," Freya smiled proudly. "May I?" Davenport nodded and Freya struck a pose. "Bam!"

Chase looked behind him to see something and he gasped. "Is that a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer?" Chase rushed up to it and leaned down, getting up close and personal with it. "Ahh! I've never seen one in person before. It's so beautiful."

Freya grinned, folding her arms. "Should we leave you two alone?"

Chase stood up, feeling embarrassed.

"Mr. Davenport, how did you afford all this?" Bree asked Davenport.

"Well, I used some of the money from the jet wing stunt, but the rest of it I got from a huge government contract I just signed." Davenport explained, typing on the computer and showed them the system. "I am developing a rocket system to protect the earth from rogue asteroids. Thanks to this little baby, I'm on my way back up Rich Man Mountain, and, WHOO, the air smells better up here! Whoa! Oh, wait, there's one more thing I forgot to show you."

Adam gasped. "Mini fridge?"

Davenport angrily gritted his teeth together. "There's no mini fridge!"

Davenport typed a few more things and Eddy appeared. "But there is me!" Everyone groans at him. "Hello, friends, and I use the term friends loosely because you're not my friends, and I hate you."

"You're kidding?!" Freya rolled her eyes. "Did you really have to bring Eddy back?"

"Yeah, I don't know that I'm okay with that." Chase agreed walking toward Eddy's screen.

"Well, then you definitely won't be okay with this." Eddy replied and suddenly floor opens up, making Chase scream and fall in.

Freya laughed. "Maybe I'm okay with it."

"Bam!" Eddy cheered.

~The Next Day

Adam, Bree, Chase, Leo, and Freya arrived at school, standing outside the front entrance. They were watching someone do donuts to do in the parking with their car all morning. Not caring if the hit someone or a car or crash into the building.

"That jerk has been doing doughnuts in the school parking lot all morning." Bree mentioned as the group stopped, looking at the car.

Adam chuckled. "I know. Finally, a good reason to come to school."

Chase yelled, wrapping his arms around Freya. "Guys, look out!!"

Adam grabbed Leo and Bree, pushing them out of the way as Chase moved Freya. Freya leaned back only to realize Chase was holding her and the two shared a flustered look, before moving away from one another.

Perry was the one in the car and the five stared at her as she struggled to climb out the window of the car. After a few moments, she opened the door and stumbled out of the car.

She casually greeted the group. "What's up?"

"What are you doing?" Leo asked her.

"Pushin' the envelope on this little baby's rollover specs." Perry answered.

"How did you afford this?" Adam asked.

"Your daddy gave me my first payment for keeping your little bionic secret. So naturally, I went out and bought my dream car, a barrel of pudding, and a lifetime supply of kitty litter. The fancy kind that clumps!" Perry explained to him and laughed.

"I think we have different definitions of fancy." Bree mentioned.

The six of them walked into the school and Perry was nagging at them with questions about their bionics.

"So, you guys are bionic. How's that work? Can you recharge my cell phone? Do you have vacuum attachments?" Perry asked and gasped. "Can you turn into wolves?"

"Not yet, but I did put that in the suggestion box." Adam remarked.

"Come on, there's gotta be more you're not telling me. Spill!" Perry cried, complaining and started poking Adam. "Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme!"

"She's not gonna stop, is she?" Bree asked.

Perry continued to poke Adam. "Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme!"

Freya raised her eyebrow. "What do you think?"

Perry started tugging on Adam's backpack. "Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme."

Adam got fed up and confessed. "Okay, okay! We use our bionics to go on missions."

Freya groaned as Chase rolled his eyes.

Perry gasped. "Missions! I would be so good on missions. I can see it now."

"I don't want to see it." Freya shook her head, covering her eyes. "Tell me when it's over."

Perry went into an imaginary vision as Bree, Leo, and Adam looked up, seeing the vision too. Chase looked at Freya, who was covering her eyes. He gently took her hands and removed them.

"Is it over?" She asked.

"No." He said and pulled her aside. "I want to talk."

"Chase, I already said what happened and I don't want to talk about." Freya sighed.

"But why?" He asked her.

Freya shook her head, averting her eyes. "Because I don't want to."

"What's the problem?" He asked, getting annoyed.

"The problem is that you don't understand that I don't want to talk about it," Freya remarked and let out a breath. "I'm sorry. It's complicated."

Freya walked away after that, leaving a confused Chase. He was confused and upset on why Freya won't admit she kissed him.

——

After school, Freya went home with Juliet. The whole day she was thinking about Chase and the whole situation. She wants to talk to Chase, but she's scared due to past experiences. She doesn't want to get into a relationship and than have him leave her immediately. She knows Chase is super sweet and probably wouldn't do that, but could still happen.

Freya sat on the couch, watching The Office while petting Cinnamon. She wasn't really paying attention to the show and Juliet noticed this.

Juliet walked over to her and sat next to her. Freya glanced at her, giving her a faint smile.

"What's going on?" Juliet asked, pausing the tv.

"Hey, I was watching that." Freya frowned.

"No you weren't. Your eyes are literally glued to the wall behind it. I can see your mind moving a thousand miles an hour," Juliet told her. "Talk to me."

"Nothing is wrong." Freya denied, looking at Cinnamon.

"You would usually be with the Davenport's right now. And you are at home, doing nothing." Juliet reasoned. "You spend all your time with them."

"I was just tired," Freya shrugged.

"Freya, tell me what's wrong," Juliet sternly ordered him. "I'll figure out what is wrong eventually. You can't hide it forever. I'll get it out of you one way or another. You-"

"I kissed Chase!" Freya admitted, covering her flushed face.

Juliet gasped in shock. "You what?"

"Don't make me repeat it," Freya groaned.

"Freya, you kissed Chase?" Juliet asked with a big smile. "I knew this would happen!"

"You what?" Freya asked.

"It's obvious you two have feelings for one another," Juliet smirked and Freya rolled her eyes. "How did he react?"

"We haven't talked about it," Freya remarked. "Not something I want to talk about."

"Why?" Juliet asked and saw her flustered, yet sad face. "I don't know Chase too well, but I don't think he will do what Brandon did."

Freya cringed at his name and Juliet rubbed her shoulder. "What did I tell you about mentioning him?"

"I'm sorry. Chase seems like a much sweeter and better guy," Juliet assured him. "Not to mention a nerd who has no other girls after him. Literally only talks to his siblings at school. From what I see, he likes you back."

"I never said I liked Chase." Freya rolled her eyes, her face getting redder.

"You sure? There's nothing about Chase you like?"

Freya shrugged. "Well... he's my friend. Close friend." Freya sat up, twiddling with her thumbs. "He's kind, sweet, he can be funny, but usually boring. But he's a nerd and I think it's cute when he's talking about something he enjoys. We both love science and we are going to that planetarium in two weeks. He's also really cute. Has a sweet smile and I feel like I can talk to him about anything."

Juliet was smiling, noticing her sister's smile filled with love and her flushed cheeks.

"I think you like him," Juliet teased.

Freya groaned, covering her face. "I know!"

"Go tell him!" Juliet pushed her gently.

"But what if he doesn't feel the same?" Freya asked.

"I think he does," Juliet nudged her. "Go to his house and tell him. You'll regret it."

Freya thought about it and nodded, before standing up. "I'll go tell him."

Juliet clapped. "Go get that nerd!"

Freya smiled confidently, before leaving her house. Her heart pounded out of her chest and she felt butterflies as she ran to his house.

She arrived at the Davenport house and took a breath, before walking in. She saw Davenport sitting at his desk and she went up to him.

He saw her and her a small smile. "Hey, Freya."

"Hey, is Chase here?" She asked, fumbling with her hoodie strings. "I need to talk to him."

Davenport shrugged. "I don't know. The lab maybe?" He suddenly got an alarm on his table and he checked it with panic. "Why is the lab the lockdown?!"

"What?!" Freya asked in shock and Davenport stood up, rushing to the lab elevator. "Should I go with you?"

"Yes." He said and Freya followed him.

Guess I have to wait to tell Chase. Freya thought with sorrow.

——

Davenport and Freya friend outside the lab doors to hear the same alarm blaring.

Donald yelled. "What's going on in there?"

Bree gasped in relief. "Finally! Mr. Davenport's here."

Adam, Bree, and Chase had taken Perry on a fake mission and she accidentally sent a rocket toward Mission Creek High. Chase tried to stop it, but ended up putting the lab on lock down.

Adam protested. "It could be a trap."

The bionic teens went up to the door with Perry. Chase attempted to assure Davenport. "Hey, Mr. Davenport. Don't worry. Everything is fine."

"Of course it is. That's why I got an alert on my phone that the lab is on lockdown!" Davenport snapped.

"What's going on?" Freya asked.

"Hi bestie!" Bree smiled and Freya grinned.

Chase blushed when he heard Freya's name. "Hi Freya... so Mr. Davenport, remember your rocket program?"

Freya's eyes grew at those words and she sighed, already assuming what had happened.

Davenport eyes grew in anger. "Yes!"

"Perry may have accidentally--"

"Sent one to hit our high school." Bree finished for Chase nervously.

Davenport and Freya shared a shocked look. "Perry?!"

"Hi, Don and blondie," Perry greeted, giving the kids a look.

"Nobody touch anything." Davenport strictly ordered them and started typing on his tablet. "I'm gonna try and hack my way into my own security program. It's not accepting my override command. Why did I have to design it so perfectly?"

Freya rolled her eyes at him and his ego. "Wow."

Bree scoffed. "Wow, even in a crisis, that ego does not quit."

Davenport lot out a sigh and gritted his teeth together angrily. "Adam, would you mind using your strength to destroy my brand-new lab doors?!"

Davenport pulled Freya away from the door as Adam readied to use his strength to break the doors.

Perry got out a giant weapon. "Back up, jumbo. I got this."

Bree and Chase yelled, moving back. "No!"

"Yes!" Adam laughed.

Perry blasts the door, but is repelled backwards and falls on the console, opening the lab doors. Davenport walked right in as Freya stepped through the door and Chase blushed at the sight of her.

"Wow, she opened it. Maybe we should add her to the team." Adam mentioned.

——

Davenport was trying to shut down the rocket remotely. Freya was nervous that the rocket was going to hit the school before he could. Leo was there with Janelle and she was scared for both of them.

Chase was sitting at a console and Freya was standing nearby, looking super nervous. He noticed this and gently took her hand, squeezing it. She turned to him and he gave her a soft smile.

"It will be okay," he assured her and Freya blushed, squeezing his hand back.

"I hope so." She whispered back. "Also, I'm sorry about earlier. I keep pushing you away and I don't mean to. I meant to talk to you, but can't do that now."

Chase stood up and gave her a warm smile in return. "It's okay. We can talk later. Whenever you are ready."

Freya blushed and looked away as Chase continued to smile at her.

Davenport attempted to shut down the rocket. "I should be able to shut down the rocket remotely from here. I just have to switch everything to the satellite feed."

Perry chuckled with an ice pack on her head. "Satellite feed."

Bree frowned at her: "You okay? You look weird..." Bree paused for a second. "-der than normal."

Perry shrugged and put down the ice pack. "Course, I'm okay." She gasped as she started to hallucinate Davenport as a cat. "Mr. Whiskers. Come to mama!"

Davenport started to fight off Perry and Freya and Chase approached the group, holding hands still. "Get her off me. Get her off me! How could you let her down here? She's shedding!" Perry moved away and Davenport groaned. "You are all grounded forever! Times three times pi. Freya, I'll be calling your mom!"

"I didn't even do anything this time!" Freya protested.

"I was in the moment, my bad," Davenport chuckled and Freya rolled her eyes at him.

Davenport checked the rockets location and his smiled faded. "The rocket's too close to its target. I can't stop it from here."

Freya looked at Chase. "Chase, can't you slow it down with your molecular kinesis?"

Chase shook his head at her. "Not something that big traveling that fast."

"It's only three minutes from its target. We have to evacuate that school." Davenport ordered and pointed to Adam and Bree. "Adam, Bree, go!"

"Is too much to ask for a please?" Adam protested.

"Go!!" Davenport yelled.

"Come on." Bree supersped Adam out of the lab. Freya started to grow more nervous, fearing for Leo's life. And everyone else's.

"You think they can do it?" Chase asked.

"They're our only hope." Davenport remarked.

Freya sighed and Chase noticed her nervous expression, squeezing her hand.

"Mr. Whiskers, time for a rubby-rub-rub on your tummy-tum-tum!" Perry went up to Davenport and grabbed him, which made him panic and push her off. He started to run away as she chased him. "Mr. Whiskers! Mr. Whiskers!!"

Chase and Freya watched in amusement, before looking at one another. Freya could get lost in Chase's hazel eyes all day.

"I hope they can do it," Freya nervously said and Chase put his arm around her, pulling her in for a hug. Freya leaned into his grasp, resting her head on his chest.

"Me too," he sighed, rubbing her back gently. Freya felt herself relax in his arms and shut her eyes, let out a calm sigh. Chase loved the feeling of Freya in his arms.

——

Later, Perry, Davenport, Freya, and Chase were watching the satellite feed of the rocket. It didn't take long for Adam to throw a car at it and Davenport noticed this happen.

"Look, something is hurtling towards the rocket," Davenport pointed out and Freya leaned forward, noticing the object flying toward the rocket.

"Huh. That looks like my new car," Perry frowned and got closer, grabbing the screen. "That is my new car!"

"Yay," Freya mumbled, grinning and Chase chuckled.

The car hit the rocket, making it explode in midair and Chase, Freya, and Davenport cheered as Perry cried in agony.

"No!"

Davenport and Chase hi fived before Freya and Chase shared a right celebratory hug. It lasted longer than it should have and the teens pulled away, sharing a bright smile.

——

Davenport had made Perry leave the house and Adam and Bree had returned. They had changed back into regular clothes and went upstairs, which left Chase and Freya alone. Chase has yet to change back into his regular clothes and Freya didn't mind that he had waited to change out of his suit. She enjoyed seeing him in his mission suit, she thinks it looks really good on him.

Freya was hesitate on talking to Chase. She hates talking about her feelings, it's not something she does. She would rather tease Chase and punch him that's how she shows affection. Making fun of him is how she shows Chase she likes him.

Freya was sat on the cyber desk, contemplating on what to say to him. Chase wasn't pressuring her to say anything, because he didn't want to force her or make her feel uncomfortable. Chase gave her a small smile as he went to his capsule to change.

Freya's eyes followed him as he walked by her and she let out a sigh.

"Chase." She stopped him and Chase turned to her, stopping.

"Yes?" He asked, removing his gloves and put them in his pocket.

Freya stammered over the words and got nervous, not sure how to word her sentence. "I...I want to... Ugh... I don't know how to do this. Never mind..."

Freya turned away, looking down with red cheeks and a sad expression. Chase got worried and walked around the desk to stand in front of her. Freya felt embarrassed, she couldn't bare to look at him. She can't do it, she's too scared.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" He asked her, gently grabbing her hands. "Freya, talk to me."

She shook her head, squeezing her eyes shut and trying to stop the tears from falling from her eyes. "I want but, I can't. I'm sorry, it's just too hard. I'm scared. I don't do this stuff. I don't talk about my feelings. I hate being vulnerable like this. I'm supposed to be the sarcastic and snarky one. I don't do this."

Freya had started to softly cry and Chase's heart broke at the sight of her sobbing. His hands moved up to her face and they softly touched her cheeks, rubbing the tears away.

"It's okay." He assured her. "I'm not gonna judge you or anything. It's okay to show feelings, nothing wrong with that. This doesn't make you weak. It makes you strong."

Freya finally had looked up and saw Chase's worried eyes. His eyes softened when he saw her red eyes and tear strained face.

"Please, tell me what's wrong? I promise you, I won't judge. I'm here to listen," Chase assured her, lowering his hands back to her hands. He squeezed them and Freya let out a shaky breath, attempting to calm down.

Freya sniffled, glancing down at their interlocked hands and took a deep breath. "I've never been good at relationships. I've only been in one real one, but he was..." Freya paused, taking a breath, hating the memory. "He... wasn't the nicest to me. Is what I'll say."

Chase's eyes darkened at the sentence. "What's his name?"

Freya shook her head. "It doesn't matter-"

"It does matter. Because I'll find him and make him pay," Chase firmly told her, feeling anger bottle up.

"Juliet already did that, trust me," Freya remarked. "But that doesn't help the fact that I'm emotionally damaged. He completely changed how I feel around people and if I can trust them. Especially when it comes to relationships, I'm afraid if I get to close that they will just leave me or even worse do what he did to me. That's why I don't show feelings, because everyone leaves. That's why I pushed you away, because I was scared. I'm sorry."

Chase listened intently to Freya, who was letting out shaky breaths and still had tears falling down her cheeks. He had never seen her this vulnerable before, it broke his heart to know what she went through, but he was glad she confessed.

Chase didn't say anything, he just pulled her into a tight hug. Freya gasped at the hug and she released a sigh of relief. She felt herself smile and grabbed her arms around him, laying her head on his shoulder, shutting her eyes.

"Don't be sorry." He muffled into her shoulder. "You have nothing to be sorry for. I'm proud of you."

Freya's heart fluttered at his reaction and tears continued, but they were tears of joy. She felt safe around Chase and his arms around her made her feel relaxed.

"You went though a lot." He mentioned and pulled away to arms length, keeping their arms around one another. "The people that caused you this pain are the problem and they need to be sorry."

"Not mentioning having an abusive father who I barely remember. I was three when my mom, sister, and I ran away from him." Freya confessed, remembering her weird recurring dream of her unknown father.

"That definitely doesn't help," Chase remarked. "But, I promise, no matter what happens, I'll never leave you or hurt you in anyway."

Freya softly smiled at him and Chase returned the smile.

"Also, um..." Freya took a second to form her next sentence and let out a breath. "I did kiss you."

"Oh, I know," Chase grinned and Freya's mouth opened in shock, dropping her arms.

"You knew?" She asked.

"That was the first thing I remembered after the triton app had been disabled," Chase explained, removing his arms from her. "It was brief, but I remember it fondly."

Freya blushed bright red, folding her arms and Chase chuckled, finding her anger cute.

"It was in a situation of life or death," Freya huffed and gently pushed away Chase. "I did it to save me and Leo."

"And me?" Chase asked.

"Sure, whatever," Freya rolled her eyes, hoping off the cyber desk. "Don't mention that kiss to anyone."

Chase shrugged. "Wasn't planning on it."

"Good," Freya replied, before walking out of the lab.

Chase smiled and chuckled to himself, shaking his head. His cheeks were bright red and he felt giddy.

"She's so cute." He giggled to himself.
