Chapter 7 - Monte Carlo of Forks
It was the day everyone's been waiting for.
Prom day.
Girls were busy making themselves look perfect for the day. Jessica, Angela, and Lucrezia went for a girls' night to have their nails done the night before prom. They parted fairly quickly though, since Jessica insisted that they needed their beauty sleep.
Lucrezia came home that evening to find her dad polishing up his camera very thoroughly.
"You never really took care of your camera."
"I need to take the best picture tomorrow, don't I? You will be the most beautiful girl in town tomorrow and I need to make sure I capture that moment perfectly." Charlie said, carefully wiping the lens with a piece of soft cloth. Lucy leaned down and gave him a small hug.
"Well, I'm going to bed early. Jessica practically forced us to have beauty sleep and she'll have my head tomorrow if she sees even the slightest shade under my eyes."
Charlie waved good night and Lucy went upstairs and got changed. Snuggling into her blankets, she closed her eyes.
Lucy snapped her eyes open on the day of prom. She took a long bath and came out in her new pajamas when there was a knock at her door.
It was Rosalie.
"Alice is helping your sister get ready. I thought you would definitely want some help to outshine her." Rosalie smiled as Lucy stepped back to welcome her in. She took Rosalie's bag from her and set them on her bed. Rosalie looked around in awe.
"Your room is beautiful. Emmett is coming to pick us up later."
"He's taking me as well?"
"I couldn't help overhearing that you were planning to get drunk. You can't drive yourself home, it's too dangerous."
Rosalie sat Lucy down at her vanity and combed her hair back.
"Trust me, and you'll be the prom queen this year."
Rose did her makeup splendidly with the colours she already picked out. She then curled the long brunette hair in thick waves.
"Come come, the dress. Show me the dress. No, actually, don't show me. Wear it, and come out." Rose excitedly pushed Lucy to her closet area.
"I thought you were the 'Ice Queen' of Forks, Rosalie."
"I don't really like anyone in town but you? I like. You're sweet and sassy, and all time adorable. Also, it's been a long time since I last had this kind of gathering. Alice is a bit too hyper for my taste." Rosalie said as she quickly put on her makeup and styled her own hair. She gasped and clapped her hands as Lucrezia stepped up to her in her dress and new heels.
Lucy slightly hesitated, thinking about how Rosalie used the word 'gathering'. It sounded so old-fashioned somehow. But she brushed it aside while putting on her jewelries.
"And Emmett told me to give you this." In Rose's hands was a bottle of bourbon. She shrugged as Lucy just stared. "It's Carlisle's collection. Purely decorative because he doesn't drink. He wouldn't mind."
"If he asks anything,"
"Blame it on Emmett. I will." The girls started to giggle like mad as they rushed to a desk in order to pour the liquor into the flask.
It was dark when they got all ready for prom. Emmett was talking excitedly with Charlie about baseball and how Rosalie's ice just melted away with Lucy. The chief was quite proud and subtly bragged about how his daughter had that effect on everyone. This made him like Emmett much more than Edward who was standing at the bottom of the staircase with them.
Uneven clumps were heard as Bella came down the stairs with a brace on her leg.
"Alice lent me the dress. I had to wear converse because of the cast." Bella said as Charlie snapped a photo.
"Do you not own a single flat?" a voice sounded from up above.
There stood Lucrezia in all her glory. Her dress trailing behind her as she walked down. She signaled to her dad to take photos of her walking down and he obeyed, clicking away.
"Your shoes are too muddy and doesn't match the colour of your dress. At least put on a cleaner one. And it's May, Bella. You don't need a sweater. Hey Emmett, thanks for the ride." Lucy gave him a simple curtsy as he exaggeratedly bowed. "I'll be back until midnight like Cinderella."
Charlie shooed the three of them off to have fun, then got ready to leave for Billy's to have a cry about how his baby was now all grown up.
Lucrezia headed straight for the gambling table while others quickly started dancing and having fun with their dates. Mike and Jessica came over to her as she threw some chips in.
"You are really just here for gambling?"
"Look what I got, Jess!"
Lucy showed her the round flask in her purse. She specifically chose that one because it had a chance to say it was a perfume bottle. Jessica gave her a look because she didn't know she would actually do it, and Mike just blurted out, "But we already spiked the punch," earning a smack.
Out of corner of her eyes, she saw Edward and Bella come in and walk around awkwardly. She just snorted and dealt her cards. She did have a talent in poker, since there already was a huge pile of chips and plaques in front of her. She threw them in a plastic box that was lying around, and went to claim her prize.
Lucrezia just raided the place. Any adorable plushies, it became hers. Anything that looked delicious, it became hers. Anything useful, became hers. Her hands became full with a teddy bear, two rabbit plushies, a box of quite expensive looking chocolates, and a hundred dollar Starbucks gift card.
Placing the gift card in her purse, she put everything else into a plastic bag that was on the counter. She was just about to go outside when a southern drawl stopped her.
"You have to dance at least once. It's prom after all."
"...Fine. Only because you have good manners." Lucy sighed, swigging a gulp from her flask. "I'm to sober for this."
"Why?"
"I prefer slow dancing. This is too chaotic here. Where's Alice anyway?"
"She's dancing with Rosalie over there. She thought you should have at least two dances. So I'm here, sent by her." Lucy looked over to the girls who were waving her over to the gazebo excitedly.
Overall she did have fun.
She danced with Jasper and Emmett. Although she groaned and downed her entire flask when Emmett approached her with a grin. He just picked her up and spun her around and around, which was fun, but she did dry-heave after he put her down. The three girls danced while the boys got some food from the table.
A slice of bagel with cream cheese and salmon with orange juice along with some lemon squares. Something light since her dress did have some boning. Lucrezia bit into the bagel and sighed with content.
"Do you think they will mind if we steal some food with us while we leave?" Lucy asked as she swallowed her orange juice.
"No they won't. No one really goes for that table anyway." Alice chirped. Lucrezia and Alice became quite close while dancing. It was hard not to. Watching Alice was like watching a little squirrel scurrying around. It was amusing and cute.
"Right then. Operation Steal the Food is on then."
Emmett, Rosalie and Lucy headed towards the food table and stood in front of it guarding it from view. Alice, who was practically invisible behind Emmett, crept up and piled on two salmon bagels, chicken strips and some fries and covered them with another paper plate. Jasper, meanwhile, just casually stacked lemon squares on top of each other and quickly left with Alice. When they texted Rosalie that the food was safe, the three went back to the parking lot and burst out laughing.
Rosalie took Lucy home and helped her carry the dishes to the kitchen. Charlie was dumbfounded when he found two piles of food in their hands, but popped a fry in his mouth with a shrug.
After Rosalie left Charlie and Lucy had another round of photo session and she flounced about, doing poses around the house with her dad following her around. They had a great laugh, and changing into a t-shirt and shorts, Lucy wolfed down her food.
"So, good prom?"
"Quite nice, I think. And I think a trip to Vegas is needed. Seems like I'm a great poker player. I mean, these are nice teddies. Chocolates are very fancy too. I started with thirty dollars and won the rest."
It was ironic how the daughter of the chief just casually admitted that she gambled successfully and Charlie didn't know what to think of it at first, but he trusted her so he didn't say anything about it.
Lucy went upstairs and flopped down on her bed. After reading her favourite book, Little Women, with a cup of hot chocolate, she turned off the lights.
Crashing prom was definitely a fun thing to do.
