Chapter 2 - First Day
Lucy woke up early in the morning and after sorting herself out in her bathroom, she went down to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. She made some pancakes and was stacking them high on a big plate when Charlie came in.
"I'll set the table. Coffee?"
"Please. Milk and no sugar."
She happily shoved her last piece of pancake into her mouth when she heard a shriek from upstairs. Apparently Bella just woke up and was pissed off. Charlie sighed and told Lucy to get ready for school and hurry along, telling her that he'll do the dishes.
Lucy ran up the stairs and brushed her teeth. She changed her clothes and did her hair, and picking up her bag and keys, she ran down the stairs, gave Charlie a quick hug, than drove away to school.
She could immediately hear other students whispering about her and her sister being new students as she walked across the parking lot to school office.
"Hey, you must be one of the new students. Are you Isabella or Lucrezia?"
"Lucrezia Swan. You can call me Lucy if you want to. I know my name can be a mouthful."
The boy nodded. "Lucy then. I'm Eric, the eye and ear of this place. If you need anything, like a lunch mate, a tour guide, a shoulder to cry on, I'm right here."
"I would rather cry on my wolf stuffy."
"Ah. Then do you mind if I ask a few questions for the school article?"
"As long as it's not too invasive." Lucy shrugged.
Eric thanked her and hurried away to inform his friends who's probably in charge of school papers. Lucy just sighed opened the door to the school's front office for her papers.
Mrs. Cope was a sweet lady, and she even gave her a little pep talk as she handed her her schedule, locker number, and a pink slip that her teachers' should sign.
Lucy headed to her first class, which was AP History. Most of her classes were AP classes and she made sure she had top grades in order to graduate early. She wanted to take a break for a year or two after graduating high school, but didn't really want to go to college years older than her peers.
"You must be the new student, Ms. Swan. Why don't you introduce yourself to the class?" Mr. Green, the history teacher, said, signing the pink slip.
Lucrezia sighed. She didn't like the whole 'introduce yourself in front of the whole class' thing. They weren't in elementary school, and this was quite humiliating.
"Lucrezia Swan, but everyone calls me Lucy and trust me, I'm the better twin." she shrugged. Everyone laughed good-naturedly, thinking she said it in a joking way. Only she knew that she fully meant what she said.
"Okay then. Ms. Swan, sit next to Mr. Hale. Mr. Hale, please raise your hand?"
A blonde haired boy raised his hand. Lucrezia sat down next to him and gave him a slight nod. "Lucrezia Swan."
The boy nodded back and replied with a southern accent. "Jasper Hale, Ma'am."
They both payed attention to the class after the short interaction. Or rather, only Lucy did. Jasper couldn't really concentrate because of her unique scent. She didn't have one. Jasper was puzzled, and it took everything in him not to stare at her.
The bell rang, and Lucrezia packed her bags and headed for AP Literature. She did hope they were working on a good book because the subject could be a disaster if the book was not her taste.
Luckily for her her teacher handed her a copy of Little Women. Next to Romeo and Juliet and Harry Potter, Little Women was her favourite. Also, she didn't have to introduce herself, which was a huge relief. They had to fill out a worksheet about the previous chapters and read quietly.
The book had few missing pages which was a disappointment, but it was a school property and almost every school stuff is a bit damaged in one way or another, so that was to be expected. She read about three chapters and caught five loose pages, and was too frustrated to read any further.
"Did people rip out pages for fun or what?"
"I don't think other students really handled the books carefully."
Lucy went to AP French and Culture with Angela, who shared her desk with Lucy in Literature. Angela turned out to be shy and sweet, but once she opened up she was quite funny. They both liked reading and bonded quickly talking about books.
Few classes later, and another stupid and unneeded introduction later, it was lunchtime, and after Angela taking her photo for school paper, she followed her to a lunch table, where unfortunately her sister was also sitting at.
"Hi, I'm Jessica. You're Lucrezia? I've never met someone with that name before."
"Classic, isn't it?"
Lucrezia took a bite of her salad with chicken fingers as it was practically the only thing that looked good enough to eat. She made a mental note to pack her own lunch from now on.
Bella was batting her eyelashes and blushing as Mike and Tyler ran around her. Lucy sighed as she watched Jessica let out a very fake laugh. She could see where this would go. As the boys fawned over Isabella, Jessica would be her friend but remain jealous. Eventually this friendship will go up in flames when Bella starts to flirt and string them along.
Lucy was answering Eric's questions for the paper when Bella suddenly spoke up.
"Who are they?"
"Those are the Cullens."
She looked from her salad to see a group of beautiful people walk in. Jessica, who turned out to be Forks' gossip queen, cleared her throat and leaned in, eyes twinkling.
"They are the foster children of Dr. Cullen and Mrs. Cullen. Moved from Alaska two years ago. Super gorgeous, but don't even try. They are like together, together. It's weird, you know? The blonde girl is Rosalie Hale. She is with Emmett Cullen. The short girl is Alice, she is with Jasper Hale. He looks as if he is constantly in pain."
Bella was practically burning holes into them as she stared at them while Lucy was munching on her lettuce drenched in honey mustard. She internally sighed as Bella's eyes widened at someone.
"Then there's Edward Cullen. He is the only available Cullen of them all. But like, don't even try. He apparently thinks no one is good enough for him here. Seriously. Like I care, you know?"
'Oh she definitely cares.' thought Lucy as she shoved her chicken into her mouth.
"I wasn't going to." Bella mumbled, as she ducked under Edward's glare. Lucy snorted, making Bella glare at her heatedly. She knew her twin was going to try her everything to get that boy. A gorgeous looking boy who never really had dates with other girls? To Bella he was practically a walking golden trophy.
The rest of the day was simple. Lucy got her slip signed, had fun in Art and not so much in Trigonometry. She went back to the office to turn in her pink slip when Edward Cullen stormed in with a glowering look. As she went out, she could hear him trying to change Biology into something else.
She drove home and got started on her homework. It wasn't much, just a few worksheets, some researching and printing out photos to use for her design board on Art. She was supposed to read a few chapters of Little Women but decided to skip that because she practically knew the book by heart. She was just roaming the internet when it was time to meet her Dad at the diner.
He was waiting for the twins at his usual spot.
"I ordered you a classic cheese burger with fries and coke, and Bella a garden burger. Does she like garden burger?"
"I think so. She prefers them to cheese burgers anyway. What did you get?"
"You know me. Steak, as usual."
They were talking about their day as Bella joined them. Cora, the waitress, came with their food a minute later.
Lucy immediately took a huge bite and shoved a fry in her mouth. She drowned out all the talk going on around her as she focused on her food. Cheese burger was one of her favourite foods and she did miss the diner's burgers. And cream puffs for dessert. You shouldn't forget the cream puffs when you come to Forks Diner. It was Lucy's favourite 'Diner Dessert' along with glazed lemon cake.
"Homemade peach jam especially for you, Lucy."
Cora knew the girl was literally in love with her cream puffs. Ever since she was allowed to eat desserts in the diner Lucy always had at least one cream puff for dessert. The whole town knew it to the point where the town people each payed for a bag of cream puffs in advance for 5 year old Lucy's birthday. Cora made a little coupon book so that Lucy could come in and get a bag whenever she wanted. For a week the adults smiled down at the little girl who carried it around proudly. (The coupon book only lasted a week and Charlie was at his wit's end because the kid wouldn't eat proper meals because of those blasted puffs.)
Lucy blissfully ate her cream puffs reliving those happy days. She didn't really remember it, but her father and others constantly reminded her. The awkward air around her dad and Bella doesn't really go away but she turns a blind eye to it. She had cream puffs to attack.
