Chapter 1 - Twin's Birthday Gone Wrong
Lucrezia busied herself one Tuesday morning as she got ready for school. She always wore baggy trousers to school but today she wore a tweed skirt and she even put on a sky blue beret.
Today was September 13th, her birthday. It was her day and she was preening herself up to let people know something special was going on.
"Happy birthday, Muffin!" Charlie came into her room after knocking. After a bone-crushing hug, he handed her an envelop. He knew she just started her new project so he decided to give her some cash that she can use for materials. Renee sent over Starbucks gift card because she knows her daughter loves her lattes.
After she made herself strawberry yogurt smoothie for breakfast, she quickly fried some potato cakes she made last night. She spooned some dollops of sour cream into a container and some sliced dill pickles into another. Then she threw in a packet of hot sauce and fried potato cakes and zipped up her lunch bag. Gathering her things and giving her dad a hug one more time, she headed off to school.
"Happy birthday, Lucy!" Jessica came running up to her. She handed her a Home Depot gift card with a little bow stuck on top. "I saw you buying some paint and I thought you started a new project."
"Jess, this is perfect!"
"And this is mine!" Angela popped up and handed her Seattle Yarn gift cards. "According to you, you can never have enough yarn, so..." she slightly stumbled back as Lucy practically pounced on her in a fierce hug.
During lunch Rosalie and Emmett came over and handed her a box. She lifted the lid to find a pretty dress.
"Alice is throwing a birthday party for you and Bella. I'll pick you up an hour after school so make sure you are ready in that dress."
Rosalie was indeed waiting for her exactly an hour after Lucrezia left the parking lot after school.
Alice greeted her with a tight hug and Emmett picked her up and twirled her around. Rosalie joined steadied her as she recovered from dizziness. Bella and stood with Edward in her green dress Alice got her.
"You look beautiful, dear." Esme said. "Don't eat too much cake, or you'll get sick."
"We couldn't rein Alice in." Carlisle chuckled, earning a playful glare from said pixie.
Bella, was then dragged to the table with cakes and beautifully wrapped boxes. Jasper, who took refuge to Lucy's side to get away from bloodlust, escorted her as a real southern gentleman.
"Alice, I know I told you I didn't want anything," Bella said, but was cut off by Alice who shoved a box in her arms. She opened it to find an empty box.
"Um... thanks?"
"It's a stereo for your truck," Jasper explained. "Emmett's installing it right now."
Rosalie, surprisingly, was next. She handed Bella a small package which turned out to be a simple bracelet.
"Alice picked it out." She then handed Lucrezia a large box. "I picked this one out for you."
It was a wooden jewelry box lined with velvet. After thanking the blond girl, Lucy quickly unwrapped her other presents and gathered them up. She left for her car to put her new jewelry box, a vinyl record of good tango musics, and a heap of new baking trays and cake pans safely in the back while Bella was opening up her own presents.
As soon as her sister was out of sight, Bella opened an envelop with a little bow stuck to it, slicing her finger a little on purpose. It was a tiny cut, but enough for a single drop of blood to emerge.
"Ouch, a paper cut."
Jasper, who felt Edward's bloodlust full force without Lucy around, charged towards Bella as Edward shoved her into a glass table. Emmett quickly grabbed Jasper and with an apologetic looking Alice, hauled him away.
Carlisle, ever the calm one, ordered everyone around the chaos.
"Rose, take Lucy home. Tell her Bella tripped and fell onto some plates, getting some nasty cuts and that I'll send her home with Edward after I stitch her up."
Rosalie nodded and drove her friend home. Lucy was quite confused because Rose had to walk all the way back, but nodded when she said she needed some air after Bella's antics.
After saying goodbye, she was sorting out her presents and was reading when Charlie knocked at her door.
"You didn't hear from Bella, did you?"
"Dr. Cullen told me that she cut her arm on some broken plates and had to get stitches. Didn't Edward bring her home yet?"
"No. It's already way past nightfall, and she isn't answering her phone. I can't reach the Cullens either. I sent out a search party and asked for the tribe's help too." Charlie huffed out, running his hand through his hair, clearly distressed.
"I'll try calling Rosalie. Don't worry Dad, they'll find her."
They both went out to the front porch. Charlie started pacing nervously while Billy and Harry Clearwater comforted him. Jake, who came with Billy, immediately went over to Lucy for comfort. She pulled him into a hug as she called Rosalie with one hand.
"Rose doesn't answer."
"The boys told us just before that the Cullen's left town, Lucy."
"...Good riddance."
Lucrezia frowned. She came back from their house just hours ago. How could they just pack up their things filling their enormous house this fast? She didn't voice anything though, since finding Bella was more important.
It took another couple of hours for one of the Rez boys, Sam Uley, to come to them with Isabella in his arms. She had her eyes open, but wasn't responding to anything. Charlie and Lucy both rushed toward them.
"Bella, are you all right?"
"Charlie?" Isabella whispered out. She just shut her mouth again as her father took her from Sam's arms. He carried her and set her on the couch as Lucy got armful of fluffy blankets. She made hot chocolate with thick cream and marshmallows for her sister and drew a hot bath as she was being looked over by a doctor.
"It's late, Lucy. Go to bed. I can take care of things alone from here." Charlie reassured her. She nodded. It was so sudden and confusing for her as well. One of her best friends suddenly started ghosting her after she was dropped off. She needed some time to process what actually happened.
"Just get me when it gets difficult, okay?"
He nodded and waved her off. Lucrezia sat at her computer and wrote Rosalie and Jasper an email since she suspected they blocked her number. Then she climbed into her bed after getting ready. She fell into a restless sleep with a heavy heart, mind racing.
Their birthday, which was supposed to be perfect, ended in a worst way she could imagine.
