"The Italians call them strega." Elijah lectured like a professor as Hayley sat on the sofa, stroking her bump with thumb whilst Klaus stood in the doorway, Ambrose sat on the table with Morgana beside him, and Alvaro sat at the desk, legs propped up "The Yoruba of West Africa call them aje, meaning mother. Where my mother was from, they called them hรคxa, and here we call them witch. Or since our discovery wiccans. Over the centuries, vampires have fought them and fought beside them, bedded them and burned them. Whether adversary or ally, they have been a force to be reckoned with. Their ancestral magic anchors this city. There's never been one all-powerful wiccan witch until Davina."
"Who is now tucked in safe and sound down the hall under my protection." Klaus walked further into the room before looking at Davina's drawing "Your Celeste was quite beautiful and a 'portent of evil,'" he air quoted the last part, they'd all seen their share of evil recently and were entwined with Satan himself, they were as evil as it got "according to our volatile artist in residence."
"Yes. Perhaps Davina's mistaken what she calls evil for power." Elijah said "Celeste was certainly very powerful in her, but she's been dead for over two hundred years. I don't understand. Why all these sketches now?"
Alvaro raised an eyebrow, eyes blank but wide "Why does any wiccan do anything?" He questioned just before a crash was heard. Klaus poured himself a drink as Ambrose raised his brows. The Morningstar sighed "Well, that's going well."
"Hm, if you were trying to win the girl's trust Nik," Ambrose remarked "perhaps poisoning her one ture love wasn't exactly the best idea."
"Oh. Are there any more inopportune deaths anyone would like to wave in my face?" Klaus raised his brows looking over them all.
"Give me a month. I'll get you a list." Elijah stated making the youngest Mikaelson in the room snort as the Spellman bit his lip, failing to keep the smile from his face. Morgana raised her eyebrows, smiling amused.
"Young, old, dead or alive, wiccans are a pain in the arse." Klaus said getting to his feet.
"Perhaps keeping Marcel out of the way, to allow the girl to calm down might help." Morgana sassed.
"Well, come on then." Klaus nodded to the door "Will one of you-" he looked between the Spellman and Morningstar "-show Davina which witch is in fucking charge?"
------
"What's with all this racket?" Klaus snapped as he and Morgana entered the room, eyes landing on Davina. They halted dead in their tracks as she throw up dirt "Bloody hell."
Suddenly the entire building began to shake violently. The hybrid and infernal duo, accompanied by Marcel dashed out of the room on to the landing. They rushed to the balcony that overlooked the courtyard. Alvaro, Ambrose, Elijah and Hayley did the same.
Prudence and Rebekah metallised into the courtyard from one of the rooms on the ground floor. They met the group's equally baffled expressions as the snow white blonde questioned "What in Hacate's name is going on?"
"Davina." Klaus breathed.
------
"I do have to say, this place is beautiful." Caliban breathed, eyes wide with admiration as he scanned the courtyard yard "Might even fancy staying for awhile."
Morgana grinned shifting a chuckle as she led him to though to one of the sitting rooms. Caliban scanned the room before his gaze landed on the drawing. He walked towards it before kneeling to examine it "Who's this?"
"Celeste. Elijah's ex from a hundred years ago." Morgana crossed her arms above her bump "And a 'portent of evil'-" he glanced at her with a 'really?' expression, although he saw that she believed the statement as much as he did "according to the wayward wiccan in residence."
"Huh." He got to his feet, eyebrows furrowed "So, what's the problem? And what was that earthquake about when I arrived?"
The younger of the two licked her lips "Davina."
"Davina?" He repeated confused.
------
"This is madness. How can a sixteen year old girl shake the entire French Quarter?" Klaus questioned with disbelief, looking at his brothers and Marcel.
"I've seen her rock the church, but I've never seen anything like this?" Marcel shook his head, irrated with the fact that he didn't understand what was wrong with the girl that was practically his daughter.
"How did you control her when she was in the attic?" Alvaro inquired, brows furrowed "I mean she must have lost control once or twice, she's a teenager, hormones and all that."
Marcel shook his head as Elijah pointed out "He didn't have to. He didn't try to kill her boyfriend."
Klaus rolled his eyes, waving a hand dismissively "Yes,yes. We've been over this part already. The point is, in her present state she's useless as a tool against the wiccans."
Marcel glared in the hybrid's direction, growling "She's not a tool Klaus!"
"Somethings obviously wrong her." Klaus spoke after a moment, breaking the uncomfortable slience that had occurred.
"She has too much power," The trio turned to find Caliban and Morgana enter, Klaus smirked happily, which the demon returned "power which she cannot control. That much we already knew. The question of why it's manifesting itself in the aggressive manner, that it is. Perhaps it has something to do with the Harvest."
Marcel tilted his head as Elijah raised an eyebrow. The younger Mikaelsons shared a look, thinking.
Caliban sighed tempestuously "What her majesty is saying is; instead of twiddling our thumbs let's ask a witch. It's witch business. And you've got three under your own roof. Who's got to know a thing or two about the wiccans."
"And below." Alvaro grinned catching on, Morgana smirked at him, loving how they practically shared the same mind. The younger Mikaelson made his to door "Caliban, with me." He kissed the side of Morgana's head before exiting.
The demon shot a grin to the hybrid before giving a slight, respectful nod to his sister-in-law before following. Elijah went for the door too, Klaus frowned "Where are you going?"
He turned "It's wiccan magic, let's ask a wiccan."
The only remaining infernal royals shared a disbelieving look as Marcel looked between the two baffled. Just how much change had happened in the original family? He wondered. He'd never seen Klaus have actual friends outside his family or Alvaro be remotely affectionate to anyone.
------
After Alvaro and Caliban returned from the Infernal realm. The blonde stood at the bar next to the dirty blonde who sat, glass in hand. Rebekah and Morgana sat beside each other on one of sofas. Prudence and Ambrose on the other. Alvaro stood across the room, but near Morgana.
"So, you have stolen the remains of the very person that Davina's been drawing for months." Elijah stood arms crossed, over Sophie who sat in one of the armchairs "Would you care to explain this starting coincidence?"
"I can't, I didn't even know who Celeste Dubois was until I-" the Deveraux was cut off by the Abattoir beginning to shake violently for the second time that day.
Klaus sighed taking a sip from his glass whilst Caliban raised his brows boredly. None of them made little movement other than waiting patiently for the shaking to stop. Sophie however, was gobsmacked.
"Was that Davina?" Sophie questioned in shock after it stopped, she was on her feet looking between the group.
"Charming little habit she's developed." Klaus smiled sarcastically.
"And the earthquake I felt today?"
"Also Davina." Rebekah nodded.
"And she's taken to vomiting dirt." Prudence added.
"Oh." Realisation swarmed on Sophie's face like ants on fell out fruit, eyes wide with panic "We have a huge problem. I thought we had more time, but we need to complete the Harvest now."
"Said the desperate wiccan conveniently." Alvaro quipped.
"I'm serious." Sophie gazed at them all desperately "The earthquake you just felt-a preview of the disaster movie that is about to hit us."
Caliban stepped forward threateningly "Why the heaven should we believe you?"
"You've met Davina, you know her story, for months now, she's been holding all the power of three girls sacrificed in the Harvest Ritual," Ambrose narrowed his eyes, everything has a price, his aunt Zelda's voice echoed throughout his mind "a force that was meant to flow through her and back into the earth. One person was never meant to hold that much power. It's tearing her apart, and it will take us down with it."
"Everything has a price." Ambrose whispered.
------
Alvaro and Klaus followed Father Kieran down the street. It was decided to keep Davina calm as much as possible, which proved easier said than done. The eye of the storm was approaching. It was the Mikaelson luck that is was anything but a normal November day.
"We need to prepare." Klaus instructed "According to Sophie Deveraux, Davina's self-destruction cycle goes through four stages that represent four elements to bind together The Harvest."
"The earthquake." Kiernan realised.
Alvaro nodded "That was only stage one. The second stage is wind, and with each following stage it hits worse than the last. New Orleans is running out of time. Next comes water."
"Flood, how bad?" Kiernan questioned stopping in his tracks, the original brothers turned to face him, Klaus clicked his tongue as Alvaro continued "Ooh, quite bad actually. But that's not the worst of it. The last stage is fire. And since it's the last, it will be by far the worst. But my brother and I, Hell didn't take over New Orleans to watch it burn to the ground."
"You can stop this, right?" The priest looked between worried, fear for his niece.
"We can." Klaus nodded, taking over "But it won't be pretty." Before the hybrid could fully explain their plan, the trio was knocked back by the wind. Klaus' open coat flapped as the fabric of Alvaro's shirt slammed against his chest. The brothers shared a look.
------
A lot had happened in so little time. A horrible chain of events. Marcel running off with Davina and now Elijah's present idea. The two Morningstars, Spellman, Blackwood, Alvaro and Rebekah gwarped at the eldest Mikaelson. By now they were all wishing it was a normal day that happened to be the 27th.
"It's taken a thousand years," Rebekah shook her head with disbelief "but it's finally happened."
"You've lost it." Ambrose stated, eyeing Elijah as if he'd been body-swapped with some insane lunatic.
"Our bloody, fuckin' mother!" Alvaro demanded from beside Morgana.
"Yes," Elijah sighed, knowing he'd get the outraged reaction he was reserving "our beloved mother, who Niklaus has affectionately placed in a coffin in our basement, not daggered but quite dead."
"Well, she did try to kill us all. Most of us anyway." Klaus shrugged before taking a sip from his glass.
"Yeah!" Alvaro cried, an outrageous scrowl on his face "Or has that slipped your mind, brother?"
"Well, I say we put her to use and put her to rest once and for all." Elijah ignored his brother's comment "Now, if we bury our mother on land owned by one of her descendants, she becomes a New Orleans witch, and we as her family share in that ancestral power."
"But, the moment you put her in the ground there's a possibility she can escape her fate in Hell." Caliban informed, giving Elijah a look "Also, your all vampires. You can't practice magic."
"Or own property for that matter." Prudence reminded.
"Yes. With regard to practicing magic-"
"You can channel it to Sophie." Ambrose caught on, eyes wide.
"Exactly."
"But, wouldn't that mean you..."
"We have to participate in the Harvest, yes." Ambrose's head bowed before dipping back up "And as for owning property, not all of our mother's descendants are dead."
"The babies." Klaus breathed. Alvaro immediately glared, stepping nearer to Morgana "No, go forth and multiply." He snarled.
Elijah sighed "Either Morgana or Hayley have to sign. The parish tax assessor's office is just steps outside the quarter, once one of you signs, you will hold the title to the plantation. Therefore the baby does too. If we bury our mother there, and we consecrate those grounds, we can finish the Harvest ritual."
"You're a bit of a mad genius Elijah." Klaus smirked raising to his feet "Count me in."
"Are we the only ones with a sane mind?" Prudence demanded gesturing to everyone but the older Mikaelsons "Your mother was one of the most powerful wiccans in history."
"By burying her, we hand over all that power to our enemies to use against us." Ambrose stated.
"Given our circumstances, I hardly say we have a choice." Elijah objected "I don't know why I bother. You lot would do what you want anyway."
"This isn't the time for democracy." Klaus said looking over the six "While you argue of politics and war, New Orleans is on the verge of blowing up. Believe me, I don't like the idea of handling out mother's power, but we don't have any other alternative anymore." He took a confident stance "Since the chain of in events in our lives, in Greendale and Mystic Falls." He gestured to Caliban and Morgana "We have aligned ourselves with the family that came before all of us, we still have the overall advantage."
Rebekah went to argue but stopped as heavy rain began to bullet down on the window "Water," Elijah realised "the next sign's begun."
Rebekah sighed "Kill a demon today, we face the devil tomorrow. Count me in."
"If that gives the excuse to stay longer," Caliban smirked "count me in two."
"Me too." Prudence nodded.
"I guess, life would be boring if everything went smoothly." Ambrose sighed tempestuously as he stood up "I'm in."
Everyone's eyes shifted to the king and queen of Hell. Morgana growled lightly "I suppose life can't get even more worse."
Alvaro glared "When this comes back to bite us all in the arse. Which it will. It's on you." He pointed at Elijah "Let's end this once and for all."
------
They all stood watching Father Kieran consecrate Esther's bones. Hayley stood with Rebekah and Ambrose under an umbrella. Klaus and Caliban under another, along with Elijah and Prudence. Alvaro held an umbrella above himself and Morgana, hands held as they huddled together.
"Are you ready to do this?" Father Kiernan questioned, holding his cross.
The Mikaelsons, Morningstars, Spellman and Blackwood shared a look before nodding. Klaus produced a knife before slitting his palm, looking over them all sparingly "Always and forever."
He handed the knife to Caliban, who repeated his movements. The knife got passed round and ended up in Alvaro's hand, he reluctantly released Morgana's hand and sliced his hand, he arched his head "O mighty Dark Lord," his family joined in with the following sentence, even Elijah, it was mark of respect to their family below, in the Infernal realm "by whom all things are set afire, thy power be the path, thy will be my desire, in Hell as it is on earth, praise Satan." He allowed his blood to fall on the coffin before throwing the knife into it.
"It's done." Father Kieran announced.
------
They'd all witnessed the Harvest. It failed. Alvaro had his legs propped on the left armrest of the wire bench, he lean his back and left arm on the right one. Right arm curled on the back. His left hand dangled down as Klaus sat in a chair before.
"Where did all that power go, though?" He questioned, eyes narrowed as he stared ahead in thought "I mean, something went wrong."
"Are you suggesting someone hijacked the Harvest, and used the power to resurrect someone else?" Klaus questioned curiously before taking a gulp from his glass.
"I'm merely asking something happened." He gave him a pointed look "Don't put words in me mouth. You know as well I. Something went wrong. Or maybe I'm wrong. And our mother's conspiring our doom on the other side."
Klaus sighed.
------
Morgana strolled into her room. A pain shot through her. She hissed grabbing her baby bump "Your getting stronger." She muttered.
Thinking it was her boy demanding attention from his mother. But when she felt liquid flow down her legs, a gasp fell from her lips. Eyes wide.
------
Klaus nursed his glass before going to speak but was cut off by Morgana shouting "Alvaro!"
The very original lifted his head.
"He's coming!"
Alvaro shot to feet and sped upstairs. Klaus stood up, calling for everyone else. Ambrose and Rebekah teleported to Greendale to get Hilda and Zelda.
Caliban and Klaus went to retrieve Lilith and Lucifer, as Prudence and Elijah got to work, driving the night and daywalkers out of the compound. Knowing that if Alvaro or Lucifer deemed any of them - who were to curious for their own good - would kill them on sight.
