~Chapter 9~

I sat in class, one hand leaning against my cheek, another tapping my pencil against the table. My ears were tired of the sound of my teachers' voice ringing around the classroom. While in this boring trance, I heard a voice ask,

"Lia my dear, do you think you could come up and solve this problem."

My head stayed down, at first not noticing she was asking me. As I sat there unaware of all the eyes staring at me expectantly, I heard another feminine voice comment,
"I bet she couldn't solve the problem if the answer wasn't right in front of her."

I glanced up, curious about who they were talking about. Soon realizing it was me, once seeing all eyes trained at my face. My face warmed with embarrassment, shooting up to answer the problem. As I shot up, I unintentionally knocked over ink, spilling it all over the girl who made a snide comment about me. She gasped in horror, furiously attempting to brush the ink off. Once she realized it was permanent, her ice-blue eyes glared up at me. Trying to contain her fury she breathed,

"I'll get you for that..."

My gold eyes lit up with worry over the threat. The girl, I soon recognized was named Lucinda, or Lucy for short. She was the most insulting, unkind girl in the school, and on top of that, the most wealthy. She made sure we all knew that, with her designer clothes and Carmel hair styled in ridiculous ways. I for one knew it was the worst being on her bad side, which I just got on. Quickly turning to the whiteboard, away from the drama queen I solved the problem on the board with ease. Making Lucy angrier.

When I returned to my seat, I felt eyes watching me walk up, then sit down. Once the bell rang, I made my way to the door as fast as possible. Swiftly climbing up the stairs to my dorm, and locking the door behind me. I laid out on my bed, breathing heavily, due to the speed I climbed the stairs in. Once my breath had been caught, I decided fresh air may be a good distraction. I drifted over to my balcony, opening up the doors, closing my eyes, and breathing in the crisp air. Feeling refreshed I lifted my eyes open. Startled to see the black-feathered bird examining me.

"Hi again," I told it.

The bird nodded its head and motioned down to its leg. There sat a small letter tied around its leg. I reached down and untied the note, reading it eagerly.

I laughed when I saw your note, I feel as if I'm being interrogated.

To answer one of your many questions, the bird is male, handsome isn't he.

I have no title for him, if you desire to, you may name him.

Finally, I feel that our identities should remain hidden, keeps it more exciting.

Au Revoir

I glanced at the bird, attempting to pet him. To my surprise, he allowed it. After a moment or so, he melted into my touch.

Gently moving away, I strolled inside, the bird following after me, awaiting a note. He made himself comfortable on my desk, as I pulled out a pen and paper. I began writing names on a paper,

"What if we named you... Nevermore!" I exclaimed

He shook his head, no.

"Blackwing, Nightwing?"

The same shake of the head,

"Raven?"

Shake of the head,

My face lit up,

"Birdbrain"

He looked at me in shock and quickly shook his head no.

I thought for a moment,

"Shadow?"

The bird hesitated but soon nodded his head yes.

I smiled,

"Finally something for me to call you!"

I then whipped out another piece of paper and wrote,

His new name is shadow, came close to titling him birdbrain though.

Thanks

After writing the small note, I tied it to the bird's leg. Petting it softly before it had to depart.
