REAL LIFE
(October 13th 2024)
Walker rummaged through his refrigerator, gathering supplies for the picnic he was planning. He grabbed a few bottles of water, soda, and some fruit. He glanced at the clock on the wall, realizing he had one hour to gather all the essentials before Zia arrived. He grabbed a backpack and started packing the supplies, determined to make this picnic a special date, well I mean if you could even call it one.
He made a mental checklist of everything he needed to pack - a blanket, some cheese, crackers, strawberries, and other small snacks. He also made sure to get a few items he knew Zia liked, like a few of her favorite snacks and a small bouquet of her favorite flowers. He picked up a small bluetooth speaker and packed that as well, knowing that music would add a nice touch to the picnic.
As he packed, he thought of a few fun games he could bring, like a small frisbee or uno. He imagined the two of them playing games and laughing, enjoying the beautiful weather and each other's company. He smiled to himself, excited for the date and hoping that Zia would appreciate all his preparations.
He took one last glance around the kitchen, triple checking that he hadn't forgotten anything. The picnic basket was packed full, and the backpack was ready to go. He checked the time again and saw he had just about 20 minutes to pick up Zia and head to the park.
He headed downstairs and took one more look in the mirror, fixing his dumbass hair and straightening out any wrinkles on his shirt. He wanted to look presentable but casual, not too formal but not too sloppy. He was excited to spend time with Zia and show her all the effort he'd put into planning this date.
He grabbed the picnic basket and the backpack and headed out to his car. He placed the items in the trunk and partially jumped into the driver's seat. He buckled his seat belt and started the car, heading towards Zia's house to pick her up. (He can drive in this)
As he drove, he mentally went over the plans for the picnic one more time, making sure he hadn't forgotten anything. He felt butterflies in his stomach, a mix of excitement and nerves, hoping everything would go as planned and Zia would appreciate the thoughtfulness of the date.
⁂
After a while, he arrived at Zia's house. He took a deep breath and grabbed the picnic basket and the backpack from the trunk before heading up the walkway. He reached the front door and knocked, waiting for Zia to answer with a hopeful smile on his face.
As Zia opened the door, Walker's heart skipped a beat. She looked so beautiful, and her small smile made his stomach do a backflip (that's just digestive issues hun). He could feel the nerves building up, but he pushed them down, determined to make this a day she would never forget.
"Hey, are you ready to go?" He asked, trying to maintain a casual demeanor despite the knots forming in his stomach. Zia nodded, a hint of curiosity on her face, and grabbed her bag before stepping out the door.
They walked to his car, Walker carrying the picnic basket and backpack. He opened the passenger door for Zia, gesturing for her to sit down. He then placed the picnic supplies in the trunk before getting into the driver's seat, glancing over at Zia with a mixture of excitement and anticipation.
He started the car, buckled his seat belt, and pulled out of her driveway, heading towards the park where he had planned the picnic. He glanced over at Zia, who was looking out the window, her expression unreadable. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of nervousness, hoping she'd love the picnic setup he had planned.
As they drove, Walker tried to make small talk, commenting on the weather and asking about her day. Zia responded politely, but he couldn't help but notice that she seemed a bit distant. He wondered if she could sense the nerves he was trying so hard to hide or from everything going on with her mother.
⁂
They arrived at the park, and Walker found a secluded spot under a large tree. He helped Zia out of the car and grabbed the backpack and picnic basket from the trunk. They walked to the spot, and Walker spread out the blanket, creating a cozy little area for them.
He took out the contents of the picnic basket, arranging them on the blanket in an artful display. There were sandwiches, chips, fruit, and other snacks. He also pulled out the bluetooth speaker and set it up, playing some soft music to set the mood.
He gestured for Zia to sit down on the blanket, and she obliged, taking a seat across from him. He sat down next to her, his heart still racing. He looked over at her, trying to gauge her reaction. She looked impressed, her eyes darting around, taking in the picnic setup.
He smiled, his nerves slowly fading away. "I'm glad you like it. I wanted to do something special for you ," he admitted. Zia's smile widened, and she reached over and ruffled his hair playfully.
They began eating, finger painting, chatting, laughing as they enjoyed the picnic. The atmosphere was relaxed and easy, all of Walker's nervousness fading away. They shared stories, making each other laugh and feel at ease. The bluetooth speaker continued to play soft music in the background, adding a romantic touch to the date.

REAL LIFE
As the afternoon wore on, they finished the food and leaned back against the tree, enjoying the peacefulness of the park. Walker looked over at Zia, who was watching a butterfly fluttering around a nearby flower. Her hair was slightly messy from the breeze, and her face was tinged with a faint blush.
He couldn't help but think how beautiful she looked in that moment. He wanted to reach out and hold her hand, but he held back, not wanting to cross any boundaries. Instead, he settled for sitting close to her, enjoying her presence and the quiet contentment of the moment.
The sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting a warm, golden glow over the park. Walker glanced at his watch and realized they had spent hours there, lost in conversation and laughter. Time seemed to have flown by in the best way possible.
"Zia, there's something I want to tell you," he said, his heart suddenly pounding again. Zia looked at him, her eyes curious and expectant. "Yea what is it?" She asked
"I don't know how to say this, so I'm just gonna be straightforward," he began, his voice steady but nervous. "I really like you, Zia. I have for a while now. I love spending time with you, talking to you, and just being around you. know we've been friends for a while, but I want to be more than friends with you. I want to be your boyfriend," he confessed, his heart racing as the words left his mouth.
Zia was silent for a moment, her eyes meeting his. Walker could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he waited for her reaction. Finally, she spoke, her voice quiet but filled with a hint of emotion.
"I like you too, Walker," she said, her cheeks flushing slightly. Walker felt his heart skip a beat, his eyes widening in surprise. He wanted to reach out and take her hand, hug her, do something to express the wave of emotions rushing through him, but he held back, not sure if it was the right thing to do.
Instead, he simply smiled, his relief and joy evident in his expression. "Really?" He asked, his eyes searching hers for confirmation. Zia nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Yeah, really dummy"
"So does this mean we're dating?" Walker asked softly although it sounded like a suggestion.
Zia rolled her eyes but smiled none of the less "I guess so walk"
They both laughed, the tension breaking as they sat there grinning like a couple of lovesick teenagers. Walker couldn't believe his luck, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world.
