Papers flew around, his subordinates bumping heads as they scrambled for the file, frantically searching for it. The office turned upside down in a panic at the shocking revelation. Papers littered the floors, and soldiers tripped on their feet, slipping from scattered files.
The group observed as the marines scurried with their tails between their legs, running like scared mice. Rue sighed, after all that it still wasn't enough. The truth about her identity wasn't enough; the captain ordered them to find her record somewhere in the file, though no one in the room doubted it due to the authenticity of her ID. Yet, of course, the captain ordered a grand search of a record book that recorded every marine known, whether active in this day and age, to confirm it. She guessed his big ego couldn't handle the fact that a delicate flower was above a big, strong man like him.
Typical.
Finally, one of his subordinates found it, and then Alex snatched it and hurriedly searched for a photograph of the woman. His eyes skimmed every inch, nook and cranny of the pictures displayed of every marine. Hoping, praying that it was nothing more than a lie, a farce to throw him off guard. After a few minutes, he smirked, shutting the book with a hand, his eyes back on the woman who waited patiently.
"You're not in here."
Taking the book from his clutches, the pages churned as Rue flipped through it before stopping at a particular page. She turned the book to him for a better view as she pointed to a photo. Alex squinted his vision, his eyes falling on the location where her finger pointed as his subordinate peeked behind him. The photograph was hazy, with colours mixed, creating numerous lines and patterns. They all squinted, trying to make out something of the woman's features. Though they could pinpoint silver hair and bright hues of blue, it was still difficult to even make out any distinct features.
Alex narrowed his eyes in suspension, shifting his gaze to Rue, "How do we know that's you."
Rue shut the book with a hand, saying, "Tell me where they are."
One of his subordinates stepped forward nervously, "Y-yes, they're-"
"Don't give her anything."
Many eyes widened at his declaration as if their captain grew another head. Zoro narrowed his eyes at the smirking captain.
"B-but sir-"
"You really think I would believe that this," Alex pointed the finger at Rue, as he scoffed in mockery, "is the Sengoku's assistant. There's no way!"
Sengoku, the Buddha, was a powerful man during his generation and still is. A man held with high regard and was respected amongst marines. This man was held in high regard by legendary pirates such as Whitebeard and the man who started the pirate era, Gold Rogers.
A man of the rank of a fleet admiral, who, however, stepped down for unknown reasons, but soon took back his position. No one knew why, but it was said he took a long vacation that lasted a year.
There was no way, no way, no way. Absolutely no way! That this woman was serving under that man. If it were true, that means...
"Sir, you saw the picture and her ID!" One marine pointed out, "There's no way its-"
"Who cares who she is!" Alex gritted his teeth; he turned back to Rue.ย He still had the advantage; she couldn't go anywhere without the children."I still have have the kids, so you-"
"I what, captain," Rue shut her eyes momentarily before opening them again, gazing at the captain with exhaustion at the man's antics. "What exactly do you want from me?"
Zoro raised a brow at her words, thinking the reason they had ended up here might have been a bit obvious. Nonetheless, precious time was wasted on this idiot.
"What I want," Alex smirked as he took hold of Rue's wrist, lifting it close to his lips. The curve of his lips widened under the haze of Zoro's glare, "is you."
Rue remained calm, her face blank as her specks of blue kept her attention on him. The fact that he was still on her tail despite the many rejections amazed her, not in a good way. "What could I possibly offer you? You barely know me."
"What's there to know," Rue whipped her head to the side from how close his face was to hers. "A woman as perfect as you belongs with someone like me."
Rue was caught off guard as Alex wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him, their noses practically touching. She almost shivered as she felt his breath on her neck.
"If you do as I say, I might think of letting them go."
Files flew from the rush of unsheathing his blade. Zoro pointed the tip at the captain's throat, and Alex chuckled at his outburst. From a brush of heat, Zoro's eyes landed on Rue's extending hand. She wrapped her delicate fingers around them as she shook her head, signalling for him not to interfere.
However, this provoked him further as he inched the blade closer to the captain's throat. "We wasted enough time with this idiot." Zoro furrowed his brow, his glare burning on the captain, "I'm not as patient as you think I am."
Creating some distance between herself and the captain, Rue shook her head at him as she gave his hand a small squeeze. Zoro shifted his gaze to her pleading specks of blue. He got involved with her too deeply; if he were to fight now, things wouldn't go well for him in the long run, and she would rather avoid as much trouble, well for his sake at least.
"I know we haven't known each other for long," Rue whispered to him for his ears only, "but just trust me for now."
Both stood gazing into each other's eyes; Zoro noticed the determined gleam within them. Though he may not like how she goes about it, he knew she wanted to find them just as much as he did.
For some reason, something within him swelled as the beauty was willing to trust him.
No, at this moment, she wanted to trust him.
He, too, had to do the sameโof course, for the sake of the children.
Yeah, for the children.
With a slight huff, his sword went back into its sheath. He may not have known what she had in mind, but her plan better be quick if they wanted to get to the children. Alex chuckled as he knew she had her under his thumbs.
"Poor little Rue," Rue slightly shivered in discomfort as he rubbed circles on her lower back, "Can't leave her daughter all alone on this island."
Johnny and Yosaku began to sweat. The captain didn't seem so fazed by the woman's rank. Nothing seemed to get through him one bit, no matter how much the woman tried to get through to him.
"You know what? Let's skip the dating stage," Alex told her, hands on his hips. "Let's get married."
The room fell into like a wave that crashed on the shore. Everyone except Rue's jaws dropped to the floor while their eyes widened and were as white as the scattered sheets of paper at his words.
"Get what?!" The office trembled at their boisterous shouts at the captain's stupidity.
"Is he for real?!" Johnny and Yosaku pointed at him with incredulous looks.
Ignoring the commotion, the captain continued, "Every woman in town would be jealous of you," Alex took slow-paced steps toward her, encircling her. "All your dreams would come true."
"Read the room!" Everyone else shouted at him.
Zoro rose a brow at the woman's frozen form, but said nothing and waited just like she wanted him to. Meanwhile, everyone else anticipated the woman's next move.
Rue grew rigid at his last words, which reminded her of someone she once knew. A shadow hid her eyes as the words rang through her mind like bells, except they were nothing soothing like one.
I'll make your dreams come true.
Her heart slightly panged; Rue placed a hand on her chest, the fabric of her dress clutched within her hands as she tried to soothe it at the thought.
Of the thought of a voice she once loved. She switched to clutching her necklace, her fingers tracing the crystal.
At the thought of his voice.
And the deception that came with it.
She won't fall for it again.
She shook her head. She needed to focus on getting the children back, especially her daughter. That was all that mattered.
It was time to think and not to feel.
"What could you possibly know about my dreams?" Zoro noted her voice, reaction, and usual smile, yet her eyes told a different story. However, like the summer breeze, it disappeared the moment it came. He watched her take another breather before responding, "What about me makes you so interested? I'm a woman with a child from another."
Again, Zoro raised a brow at her question. Why in the world would that even matter? Yet, in a way, he waited for the man's answer. She had a point; usually, not many would be interested in a woman who had a child, not like he minded. He shook his head at the thought; he was only thinking hypothetically, nothing more.
Rue knew the answer; the answer was so obvious. No, the answer was nothing but a fact, nothing new under the sun that would go through her ears and leave the other. Nonetheless, like a person who has been wronged, sometimes the desired answer must be heard.
No, the answer that she already knew to her question.
"You're the most beautiful woman on this island," Alex said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "What other reason is there?"
The office fell in silence once again, so quiet the squeals of mice would echo through the walls. His subordinates had tears streaming down their faces, wondering how in the world they got paired up with this man, while others oddly still had some respect for the man left.
"That's it!?" Johnny and Yosaku exclaimed with their jaws dropped.
Zoro narrowed his eyes at the man, clearly agitated by him. He sucked his teeth at the marine's antics; he crossed his arms as he leaned on the walls behind him, his eyes fixed on the silver-haired woman.
All eyes were on Rue as they watched her expression change to her usual smile, as if the captain's words did not affect her. Though to many in the room, her smile seemed as sweet and delicate as a rose, however, Zoro noticed the subtle coldness to it.
"Give me the children, or I will take measures into my own hands," her sweet voice warned.
A subordinate stepped up; Rue settled her gaze on a small plaque on his shirt, ensign LeFou. "Um, sir..." He fidgeted under his captain's glare. "She technically outranks you..." His words dimmed as his superior's glare intensified.
"Who's your captain here?" Alex shouted authoritatively as the room went quiet. Rue yelped as he yanked on her wrist, almost tripping over the scattered papers. "What do you think a frail woman like her can do?!"
From the corner of her eyes, she noticedย Zoro grip his katana tightly.
The captain returned his sight to the woman, squeezing her wrist, "If you didn't know men are stronger than women." Though her eyes revealed nothing, Alex couldn't seem tired of looking into her specks of blue.
He had authority; he had power and noble lineage. He was the envy of every man on the island and a man any woman would be happy to have as their man. He had everything he ever wanted at his feet, except the woman he had fallen for at first sight. He may not believe her rank was above his, and even if she were, that would get him closer to the higher-ups.
He was tired of chasing; it was time to snag the object of his desire.
Oh, he wanted her and would have her by any means necessary. With her under his arms, his life would be perfect.
And he deserved a perfect life.
"You're right," Rue said, her lips curved into her usual smile. Reaching for the hand that held her captive,"Men are typically stronger than an ordinary woman."
A cocky smile plastered into Alex's face until he grunted at the pressure in his wrist. His widened gaze lifted to Rue's calm features. His grunts became small groans of pain, and she applied more force to his wrist.
Though the weight wasn't hard enough to break, it would leave a bruise.
"However, captain," Alex continued, groaning in pain as Rue applied more pressure, bending his arm in a strange angle. His subordinates flinched at the crunching at the arch from his arm, forcing him on his knees. "I'm not an ordinary woman."
Her smile was the opposite of her tone, her features as docile as a dove, but her voice brought a tremble to the captain's temple. No matter how much he attempted to struggle against her firm grip, she would tighten her hold on him. All this with one hand. He wondered where she had gathered all this strength despite seeming so docile.
Astonishment washed over the marine in the office like the sun hidden in the clouds. They had never thought that they would see the day that their captain, on his knees, by a woman no less. They watched as the captain's face became red out of anger and, most likely, embarrassment.
Zoro's lips lifted into a proud smirk, and he crossed his arms as he observed the man struggling within her grasp. She finally took matters into her own hands; he hadn't expected it to be like this.
Anything she did was unexpected, after all.
"Way to go, Big Sis!" Johnny and Yosaku shouted, stars in their eyes and a pink hue dusting their cheeks.
The marines jumped as the silver-haired woman set her sights on them. A smile dropped from her features. "Don't make me repeat myself." The Authority etched within her voice froze them in place. "Bring the children to me now."
"Yes, mam!" The marines stood rigid in a salute as she gave more orders on documents of the captain's dirty work on the island. The groups split into groups, one finding all the files necessary while the other would get the children.
As his subordinates began to scurry around to complete their task, their steps echoing down the halls, Alex's glare hardened, "Who do you-" A yelp escaped his lips as Rue applied more force by bringing his arm to the side behind his back. If she kept going in this motion, his shoulder would break. Sweat began to build at his brow from the sensation of the pressure. Papers crunched beneath him as his knees pressed on them.
"Johnny, Yosaku," She jerked toward the marines that exited the office. Though she gave them an order, she wasn't too trusting of them since their captain had pulled the strings earlier, "Follow them."
The duo nodded, running after them to ensure the children's safety.
"You're under arrest for embezzlement of funds, intimidation and extortion." Rue listed off, simply ignoring his moans of pain as tears brimmed in the corner of his eyes while grinding his teeth to hold back his groans of agony. "And kidnapping along with child endangerment."
Rue knew she shouldn't think this way, but seeing the captain this way satisfied all the trouble he had caused her. "I'll make sure the report goes straight to Sengoku himself."
Unexpectedly, Alex's shoulders shook, seeming fearful, yet his chuckles echoed throughout the room. Soon, they turned into laughter as if someone was pulling his leg.
"There's nothing they could do to me!" he smirked with a smug aura. "I'm a noble, remember?"
Alex was expecting her to apologize for treating him like a criminal. For treating someone, she was supposed to serve, to beg for forgiveness with tears in her eyes.
Instead, he received a sweet smile from her. "You mean your very low status that isn't even considered nobility anymore?"
The captain's pupils dilated while the rest of the marines searching for files froze at the information. Various whispers whistled in the air at the startling news.
"He isn't a noble!?"
"But the family has been in charge of this island for generations!"
"I paid all the debt for nothing!"
Zoro watched the ex-noble's body shook like a leaf rustling in the trees. He kept quiet, watching the scene unfold, face seeming uninterested, but the gleam in his eyes told a different story.
"What did you think I was doing these past few days on this island?" Rue tilted her head to the side, "I was able to gather a lot of intel thanks to the townspeople."
Rue knew that part wasn't particularly true, but it wasn't a lie either. No one needed to be aware of this, though.
Certain things didn't need to be revealed, and she intended to keep it that way.
"Of course, you were the biggest help in this operation." Rue's voice became slightly cherry, yet at an undertone of mockery, "Thanks to you, I got my hands on all of your misdeeds."
Zoro's ears perked up, his mind enlightened as everything made sense. No wonder she accepted his date proposal. This whole time, she was undercover for the sake of her job.
Meanwhile, Alex was fuming, lips bleeding from his teeth grinding on them. His mind blanked at the revelation of her plans. She had used him from the moment they encountered; that date was only for her to reel him into her clutches, and he fell for it.
He told her a lot about himself, everything he did, all the things he committed, and every last morsel of information, and he revealed it to her without a second thought.
A red hue covered his face to his neck as a slow bubble of rage twisted his stomach while a vein pulsed on his stomach as humiliation began to fester within him. He couldn't believe this harmless woman got to him; a docile sheep like her outsmarted a wolf like him.
And the wolf was sharpening its claws.
A cold metal was placed on his wrists, holding him in place while he became motionless. She watched as some of his men dragged him to his front desk without much resistance; the papers crunched beneath him as his body flowed on it like a calm river. Rue noted his sudden quietness, but didn't press on it further as his subordinates graciously handed her the files needed, which were longer than her arms on a task by her side. Her heart swelled as everything went as planned; well, sorta did. Now, she had to wait for Johnny and Yosaku to arrive with the children. The silver-haired woman turned to the green swordsman, who pushed himself off the walls and went to her side. With a closed-eyed smile on her features, as she gazed up at him, waving the one file in her hands with glee, Rue couldn't stop the excitement in her heart of seeing her daughter again. What felt like only hours, Rue didn't want to spend another second away from her daughter.
Deep in thought, the swordsman's mind wondered at her work. Observing from the sidelines made him question her methods. Rue was smart, that was for sure, but her ways were not what he had thought; earlier events have proven that much. Another thing he picked up was this woman's willingness to let whoever and whoever treat her with any disrespect or discomfort obtain her goals. This made him question the amount of times she had to go through that.
His eye twitched at the thought of it, a sudden frustration pulsing in his veins. Zoro may not know everything about her, yet he didn't like the fact that she went that route.
His silence resulted in the silver-haired woman casting her eyes to the ground; her toes created circles. To his surprise, she bowed, her eyes on her toes that tucked and squeezed the discarded papers the captain's subordinates had yet to clean. Zoro noticed the slight regret in her eyes, he met her specks of blue his brown pools as he couldn't help, but gaze into them, getting lost in them for a moment. With a tender and steady touch, he extended his hand, the tips of his fingers brushing her cheeks. However, Rue jolted from the touch on her face. He quickly retracted his hand as if nothing had happened; he observed a puzzled look on her features.
"There was something there," he told her as he folded his arms, his gaze focused elsewhere to distract the burning sensation of his cheeks to the tip of his ears and simmer the embarrassment of what had transpired. Rue noticed this and slightly giggled while hiding behind her hand, making his ears brighter.
"I see," Rue replied, his heart thumping faster at her sweet voice. "I just wanted to thank you for putting up with me for a while. I know I put you and your friends through a lot."
He turned away from coughing away and attempting to calm his heated cheeks, a hand on the hilt of his sword, "You owe me for this."
Rue gave him a soft smile; Zoro's heart began to ram in his chest, the light of the skies illuminating her glistening lips, "Yes, I will repay you for this favour."
The green swordsman felt piercing eyes on his back from a few paces away. Unfazed, he shifted his view to the fuming raven-haired captain; Zoro responded with an eye roll.
Alex's features flushed once more as anger consumed him. How dare he touch what was his! He gritted his teeth at their interaction, glaring holes into the green swordsman's head as if wanting him to disappear. He began shifting around, attempting to escape his bounded wrist.
"Big Sis!" Johnny yelled out, along with Yosaku and Ayame, right behind him as they ran towards them. Rue frowned, her brows creasing for a moment, but raised once she noticed her sleeping child carried by Johnny on his back.
Ayame's eyes cast downward, and Rue's eyes were etched with worry at the sight of her child. "I'm sorry!" She whispered as tears brimmed at the corner of her eyes. Rue lifted the brunette's gaze and wiped away the child's tears. "There was a scary mask man and-"
"It wasn't your fault. There's nothing to apologize for." Thanking Johnny and Yosaku, Rue took her child into her arms. The rising of her chest simmered her concerns as the child was simply sound asleep. Her nose caught a familiar aroma on the child, making her eyes widen slightly.
She turned back to Ayame, "Do you remember what his mask looked like?"
Nodding, Ayame pulled out a small crumpled piece of paper to unravel a symbol of a large blue wing for everyone to see. Many eyes bulged out of their sockets as they stared at it.
"T-that's," Johnny mustered with a shaky breath.
"The Winged Demon!" The rest of the marines shouted, almost falling over their feet. Their outburst stirred the child in her arms from her slumber.
"Mummy?" Aisha rubbed her tired eyes, peeking at her mother as she raised her head while Rue caressed her daughter's cheeks.
"Winged Demon?" Zoro asked with a raised brow as he crossed his arms. He had never heard of someone like that, though he did wonder if this person could use swords.
"The Winged Demon's identity is unknown," Johnny uttered a voice, the air pulling everyone's interest especially the children. "No one knows who is under that mask, but rumours are going around on who it might be based on the blue wings."
Zoro listened intently to his friend's words. Aisha's eyes sparked at the story being told. Meanwhile, as she placed Aisha down, Rue had ordered the men to clean up the mess in the office, as her fingers traced the wings on the paper.
Many suspected the masked man to be the wandering soul of a dead soldier, a man who was once a revered marine. Originating from the South Blue, this marine highly skilled, pirates feared him at the mention of his name, not because of potential capture, but to encounter a man who enjoyed the thrill of a fight. A monster in martial arts, his technique as deadly as any beast of the field or any poison, a loose cannon on a leash with tattooed wings on his chest. A symbol of the man's and his subordinate's pride, no matter how far one attempted to escape, his wings spread far and wide to catch his prey.
Unfortunately, a soul gone too soon after committing a heinous crime and was executed for his acts. Though many protested his death, bounties were placed on the heads of those who remained loyal to him. Some say it might have been one of his subordinates under the mask impersonating him; others opinions stemmed from him coming back from the grave and wreaking havoc for the fun of it. Despite the many speculations, the masked man never spoke, and no one knew what he sounded like. Always decked with a dark cloak and body concealed, no one knows of his true identity. It did not matter whether it was day or night; he would strike at marines and pirates alike, with no friend in sight; everyone and anyone was an enemy regardless of belief or creed. His destruction didn't stop there; the masked individual was bold enough to go after nobles, even the untouchable Celestial Dragon.
This showed the world he was completely against the government, a stain, a disgrace to the military.
Many thought the masked individual worked with the Revolutionary Army, though it became clear that their goals and ways differed. They say he leaves his mark on those he finds worthy to join him in his cause, a card embodied with the aqua wings. Thus, it created a small yet ruthless organization willing to take the heads of powerful people or government secrets for a hefty price. Regardless of the world's views or his true identity, his head was set at a high price of 450 million berries.
Many of the marines frowned, disapproving of the man they called the Winged Demon. The fact that he was once one of them brought disgust in their stomachs at the thought.
Rue kept her gaze on the symbol. Slowly, her hand squeezed it, crumpling the paper in her hands. Their reaction didn't surprise her; in fact, it was what she wanted. Their opinions were expected; every last one of them was nothing positive.
And each of those opinions was further from the truth.
Again, Alex kept trying to free himself, reaching for the lock. His ears picked up a clank, and his gaze shifted toward a gun one of his subordinates had carelessly dropped. Mischief clouded his mind as he picked up the weapon without a struggle, whistling away as if nothing had happened.
Suddenly, Rue's senses became vigilant; her nose perked up at the same familiar scent through the air that blew into the office.
He was approaching.
Soon, an explosion went off, again throwing the room into chaos. Everyone ducked for cover. Rue quickly covered her daughter from the explosion while the duo did the same for Ayame, shielding her from the attack. Rue gasped as Zoro's arm wrapped around her waist, shielding her from the hot flames. The air was smoky, with dark clouds surrounding them, as small debris from the destroyed parts of the building fell around them. Their visions momentarily blurred from the hot set of flames.
Though his ears rang for a moment, Zoro gazed upward to the roof as did everyone else. He ensured to place himself in front of the silver-haired woman and her child, shielding them away from any incoming danger. Many quivered while others grew rigid at the dark cloak that came into view. However, it wasn't for the cooling breeze that flew by, nor was it winter. The sun hid itself as if a dark gloom covered it, its shadow enveloping them. All eyes widened as Zoro's narrowed at the masked figure, the blue-winged symbol in all its glory for everyone to see.
However, no one knew the silver-haired woman wasn't surprised at these events. Her gaze was empty at the figure above them, tilting its head in curiosity as he looked at them like insects. She had wondered if he would ever arrive, but she didn't think he would come so soon.
She almost sucked her teeth at the predicament. The building was half destroyed, burning into flames, and the documents that had been cleaned up previously were scattered again, some burnt, some crumpled, and others in ashes. Rue sighed, knowing that she might have to pull an all-nighter re-documenting everything.
Why did this fool have to make a flashy entrance? He always seemed to do what he wanted.
"I-it him!" Yosaku whispered to Johnny, whose jaw dropped to the floor. Rue slightly frowned, yet her composure said otherwise.
"The Winged Demon!" Many of the marines shouted, weapons drawn out, ready to attack. Before they could pull the trigger, the masked individual sprinted away and quickly disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Slowly, shifting his eyes to Rue, he watched as she calmly looked away. Not much of a reaction to the individual's appearance, he raised a brow at her strange behaviour. Wondering what she could be thinking at the moment.
Rue kept her eyes on her daughter, whose chocolate hues lit up at the masked man's appearance. The silver-haired woman almost sweated at her child's reactions yet smiled a little, knowing that her daughter was safe and had no injuries.
With Rue's approval, the marines made haste and chased after the individual, taking as many men as possible to apprehend the criminal while others stayed assessing the damages. The green swordsman'gaze softened as he witnessed Rue's smile at her daughter, realizing that they weren't hurt from the explosion. Feeling his gaze on her, Rue lifted her eyes and met brown specks that gazed at her with such tenderness that she whipped her head away bashfully.
"You guys alright!?" Johnny asked while brushing debris of rubble off his blue hoodie. Ayant coughed out, grey ash on her cheeks as Yosaku helped her.
In the corner of his eye, Zoro observed a dark-haired captain clumsily holding the weapon within his grasp. Though his head was bounded, he gripped the weapon tight in his hands; his eyes widened as a dark grin spread on the man's face as it was aimed right at her.
His heart began to race a mile a minute.
Everything went in slow motion; a thunder went off as Alex pulled the trigger, the bullet travelling at the speed of light. Zoro blocked some of the impact from the trajectory of the bullet. ย
Bodies collided amid the chaos, some falling over, others jolting at the sudden gunshot. There was a scream of horror in the atmosphere as the bullet struck an unexpected target, and blood slowly spread through the clothing, tainting it in crimson and filling the air with a metallic aroma. This left Ayame and the duo swordsmen in shock, their bodies frozen in their spot. Desperately holding her child in her arms, tears welled up in Rue's eyes, yelling her daughter's name. A mysterious blue hue lit on her necklace and her palm on Aisha's chest, whose eyes were shut, a splash of crimson on her cheeks.
Her baby! Her child was hurt, and there was nothing anyone could do!
Alex laughed manically, cut down by Zoro's blade as the swordsman's glare could make the captain disappear from the earth's surface. The bastard had been getting on his nerves long enough; it was time to put him in his place, once and for all, but what could that possibly accomplish when the damage had already been done?
ย All Alex had left was humiliation at being tricked by the moment of his desires, and he would be damned if he went down without getting paid back. He lost his pride, and she would lose something in exchange, too.
As if her world had ended at the sight in front of her.
It was all fair; if he couldn't have her, then no one could. The witty sheep dared to go against the big bad wolf; therefore, the wolf bit back, ensuring the sheep would never defy him again.
Rue's eyes began to glow blue, almost eating away at her pupils.
It hadn't occurred to Alex that he had enlightened this beauty's wrath.
In fact, he awakened the wrath of a beast.
