1971, FIRST YEAR

I skip along side my older brother and his girlfriend Narcissa with an excited grin on my face, his hand holding mine tightly so I don't get lost in the busy crowd of the station platform.

"Is Hogwarts fun?" I ask the older girl curiously, looking up at her.

"Of course. Especially in first year" She assures me as we stop.

"Lucius, what if I don't get sorted into Slytherin like you and Cissy?" I question worriedly before my smile drops completely "What if I'm a Hufflepuff? Or worse, a Gryffindor?"

He chuckles in amusement and crouches down in front of me, fixing my neat braids of blonde.

"You're a Malfoy, Evangeline. We're born Slytherins" He tells me, pinching my cheek "You don't have to be worried about being sorted into another house"

"Angel, look who it is" Narcissa coos, pointing behind me.

I turn from them to see Regulus and Sirius Black with their parents, both brothers looking bored and tired.

"Reggie! Siri!" I squeal, bounding over to them happily.

They both perk up, smiling at me as I approach them with Lucius and Narcissa in tow. I wrap my little arms around both of them and they hug me back.

"Are you excited, Siri?" I ask the dark haired boy cheerily.

"Meh" He shrugs.

I open my mouth to reply but the train whistle pierces through the air and Lucius wraps an arm around Narcissa.

"Come on, you two" Narcissa chirps, glancing at Sirius and I.

"Eva, wait!" Regulus pipes up and I turn to the younger boy in confusion.

He holds up a pretty white flower and I tilt my head in confusion.

"What is this for?" I ask in confusion, taking it from him.

"Told you she wouldn't like it" Sirius mutters and Regulus' cheeks burn pink.

"I do like it" I argue, thumping the older brother on the arm.

"I'll see you at christmas, Eva" Regulus mumbles shyly.

"See you, Reggie" I grin widely, leaning forward and pressing a kiss to his hot cheek.

He smiles happily as Sirius drags me onto the train behind my brother and Narcissa. Sirius falls a little bit behind the older two of our group and I wander behind him, smiling down at the flower in my hands.

Due to the fact I'm not looking where I'm going, I bump into someone and I drop the flower, looking at the person in front of me in surprise. The fluffy haired boy in front of me immediately blushes in embarrassment and drops down to pick up the flower I dropped.

"I'm really sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going and I should have been. I got distracted and now your flower is missing a petal" He rambles out nervously, holding up the flower in one hand and the fallen petal in the other.

I stare at the brunette in awe, my mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water as he frowns in confusion. He stands a little taller than myself, his honey brown eyes stare at me quizzically and he tilts his head a little, his fluffy brown hair falling to one side. My gaze follows the jagged scars across his face and he seems to notice this, looking down at his feet shyly.

"I like your scars" I blurt out and he looks at me in surprise.

"You do?" He smiles and I nod enthusiastically.

"They're well cool" I assure him and he grins happily.

"I like your hair" He tells me, gesturing to my hair.

"You don't think it's boring?" I ask curiously.

"No. It's well cool" He repeats my words and I giggle in amusement.

"I'm Evangeline" I inform the boy.

"My name is Remus" He replies.

Before I can say another word, my arm is grabbed and I turn my head to see my big brother but his eyes are narrowed on Remus.

"What did mother and father warn you about, little sister?" He snaps.

"Um...I forgot" I frown and he rolls his eyes at me.

"No fraternising with halfbloods, mudbloods or blood traitors" He states sternly, throwing a disgusted glance at Remus "He's clearly not a bloody pureblood, Evangeline"

I frown deeper and turn to the boy who is sadly looking down at his shoes. I want to apologise to him for my brother upsetting him or hug him to make him smile again, but my brother drags me away before I can do either.

"Where is Sirius?" I ask my brother.

"I have no idea. He's not exactly my main priority" The boy answers with a shrug.

We reach the carriage that is full of older students who are very clearly Slytherins and I am sat down next to the only girl my age who is playing nervously with her sleeves.

"Hi, I'm Evangeline" I smile warmly to the raven haired girl.

"Are you a pureblood?" She asks me, looking anxious.

"Yeah, are you?" I answer and she sighs in relief.

"Yes" She smiles "My name is Mallory"

"I think we're gonna be good friends, Mallory" I hum and she grins happily.

"I'd like that very much, Evangeline" She chirps.

The both of us change into our school robes and chat the whole way to Hogwarts, getting to know each other better.

The train soon arrives at our destination where we meet a large hairy man named Hagrid who takes us first years to the boats and after a boat trip to the huge castle like school, we are met by a woman wearing black robes. She introduces herself as Professor McGonagall and escorts us into the great hall for the sorting ceremony. I am bumped into and I turn my head to see Sirius with a curly haired boy with glasses.

"Siri, there you are" I grin happily "Cute friend"

"Right back at you" Sirius grins, looking at Mallory next to me.

"Belovna, Mallory" Professor McGonagall calls out.

Mallory happily sits down on the seat and the hat is placed on her head.

"Hmm, this one is easy" The hat chuckles "SLYTHERIN!"

Mallory grins and skips over to the Slytherin table, sitting down in an empty spot. An older Slytherin girl pats her back and a boy from across the table reaches over to ruffle her hair.

"Black, Sirius" Professor McGonagall then shouts and Sirius shuffles towards the stool, sitting down as she places the sorting hat on his head.

"Ah, another Black" The hat mutters "The head of this one is alike the others. Resourceful. Determined...But the heart is completely different. I sense courage and chivalry"

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat decides and Sirius smiles widely while I frown deeply.

My friend rushes over to the Gryffindor table who welcome him with open arms and I turn to the Slytherins, sending a frown to Lucius and Narcissa who is worriedly glancing at her younger cousin.

"Lupin, Remus"

My eyes are pulled from my family to the shy boy from the train and he sits down on the stool, the hat being placed onto his head.

"I sense an extreme amount of kindness and compassion, dependability and patience too. Hufflepuff could be the house for you" The hat says unsurely "But I sense a stronger presence of bravery, honesty and passion"

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat finishes and Remus smiles softly, heading over to the table next to Sirius.

My frown deepens and I realise that Walburga and Orion Black won't be happy with the house Sirius has been placed in.

"Malfoy, Evangeline" My name is called and I grin widely, bounding up to the front.

I plop down onto the seat and the hat is placed on my head.

"Oh, this one is clever and cunning. What a charming little thing. Very bold and ambitious. The leadership qualities are strong with this one" The hat speaks and I gently kick my knee high sock clad legs "SLYTHERIN!"

I perk up in happiness, practically leaping off of the stool as McGonagall grabs the hat from my head before I run away with it and I strut over to the Slytherin table proudly with my head held high. I plop down in between Lucius and Narcissa who are grinning at me in pride.

"That's my girl" Narcissa says, wrapping an arm around me.

"I told you not to worry" Lucius grins.
