THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20th 1977
I walk through the corridors towards the astronomy tower as I reread the note in my hand for the fifth time with a small giddy smile on my face.
meet me in the astronomy classroom after dinner
remus x
As I reach the classroom I realise that no one is here yet so I sit down on the desk and place the note down, waiting for the Lupin boy to arrive. Within a matter of minutes, I hear someone entering the room and I turn around with a smile but it fades quickly when I see Sirius.
"You're not Remus" I declare.
"Clearly" He scoffs.
The door slams closed and we both race towards it, banging our fists on the wood.
"Let us out!" I scream.
"Boys, this isn't funny!" Sirius hollers.
"What are you two shouting for?" I hear my best friend's voice and I turn to see him with a confused look on his face.
Before either three of us can speak, a note is slid under the door and I pick it up, reading it aloud.
we have your wands and there is a silencing spell on the room so you have no way out until you both stop arguing and make up
- 3/4 of the marauders
Sirius and I immediately look to Regulus for his wand but he shakes his head.
"I left mine in my dorm. I didn't expect to be here much longer than a cigarette or two" He admits.
"Pass me one" I sigh, holding out my hand.
"Me too" Sirius copies my actions.
Regulus gives us both a cigarette each before I take the younger brother's hand and tug him over to the open window that he was clearly sat previous to our yelling. Sirius sits at a window on the opposite side of the room and we all sit in silence, our breathing being the only thing heard.
After a while of silence, the three of us begin to get agitated and annoyed at being stuck in here.
"Why are you so mad that I left? It's not as if we were even that close" Sirius snaps out of nowhere, looking directly at me.
"I'm not mad that you left me, Sirius. I couldn't care less about me. I'm mad that you turned your back on your brother!" I retort in anger "How could you be so cruel as to shun him like the rest of your family and replace him? You broke his heart!"
Sirius' gaze turns to Regulus and the younger boy looks down at his feet with a clenched jaw.
"Is that really how you feel?" Sirius asks his brother.
"I don't care" Regulus lies with a shrug.
"Reggie, stop trying to spare his feelings" I scoff "It's not as if he'd do the same for you"
"Eva, enough!" Regulus yells at me, grabbing my shoulders and sitting me down in a chair "You need to calm down"
"Ask him" I say, looking up at my best friend's sad eyes full of unshed tears "Ask him why, Reg"
Regulus lets go of me and slowly turns to his brother.
"Why did you leave me behind?" The young boy asks, his voice cracking.
"You're safe with Evangeline" Sirius shrugs, looking down at his feet.
"You promised that you'd never let them hurt me" Regulus croaks.
"And they don't, right? I was the problem and I left" Sirius rambles out, looking at his little brother through hopeful but guilty eyes.
"You aren't the problem, Sirius. They are" Regulus argues "And when you left, they only had one person to turn their anger and expectations on"
Just like that, Sirius' high built walls of steel crumble into dust and he realises exactly what he's done as tears roll down his cheeks.
"I never meant to hurt you. I just needed out, okay? I couldn't stay there any longer" Sirius defends himself.
"I know that and I completely understood where you were coming from until you shut me out. You wouldn't talk to me at school because I'm a Slytherin, you ran away so I couldn't talk to you at home and then you just stopped talking to me at all" Regulus explains, starting to get angry.
"We're in two completely different places, physically and mentally, I just didn't think you'd want to see me after I was disowned" Sirius tells him.
"You were always so pissed off at the fact Evangeline and I were closer, but fail to realise that she means everything to me because she never left me like you did and she never will. That girl right there is only person in the world that loves me unconditionally. The only person that will always stay by my side" Regulus speaks clearly, tears streaming down his face "The family may have disowned you, Sirius, but I never did. You disowned me"
I reach out and let the boy grab onto my hand which he squeezes tightly in gratitude.
"I'm sorry, little brother. I never realised how badly I hurt you" Sirius apologises and Regulus looks down at his hand in mine, trying to stop his tears "You may never forgive me, but words will never begin to explain how truly sorry I am"
Regulus walks off without another word and I shoot Sirius a glare before following my best friend. Regulus sits down on a chair in the corner of the room and I stand in front of him as he stares up at me.
"Code H?" I mumble and he nods, dropping his head against my stomach.
The boy wraps his arms around me and I run my fingers through his curls with one hand while the other is gently placed on the back of his neck.
"I can hex him if you'd like?" I offer and Regulus chuckles, shaking his head softly "Really? Not even a simple stinging hex?"
"No hexes, Eva" He warns me.
"Talk to me, handsome" I sigh.
He looks up at me with a calm and content look, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"I don't want to fight anymore. We do enough fighting for sixteen year olds" He admits.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I question.
"I mean, look at him" Regulus replies, nodding over to his brother "The nervous wreck clearly does feel guilty, and if he's willing to put effort into fixing this, then so am I"
"Are you sure you're ready for that?" I ask in concern, staring at Sirius who is biting his nails and staring at the table in front of him with tear stained cheeks.
"Readier than ever" Regulus answers.
