TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th 1977
At the young age of twelve, my little third year self found an open book in the library that caught my eye due to the diagrams and fancy writing on the coloured page. I read about animagi for a month or two before deciding to follow the spell, curious about what my animagus form would be.
After a month of holding a mandrake leaf in my mouth among many other things and Regulus talking for me with the excuse of a sore throat, it finally came time for the big reveal.
That full moon, I snuck out into the woods with Regulus and he sat with me all night. I transfigured into a sleek white lynx, leaping around frantically in joy as Regulus watched in awe with a chuckle before telling me how proud he was of me. To this day, the raven haired boy has a scar on his cheek bone where I accidentally caught him with my claws after tackling him to the floor in excitement.
I sit at the fireplace in the common room in my white satin nightgown, staring at the fire with the anxious tick of my leg bouncing up and down.
"Why don't you go for a run?" Regulus suggests.
"It's been a while" I admit.
"All the more reason to go" He adds.
"What if I can't transfigure anymore?" I stress.
"You can do it. It's like learning to use your wand. You can't really forget how to" My best friend assures me.
"What if someone notices I'm not in bed?" I question.
"Enough with the what ifs, princess. I'll cover for you" Regulus declares.
"Thank you" I breathe out gratefully.
"Go on" He chuckles, pushing me gently "Have fun"
"See you later" I grin, pecking his cheek.
"Later" He confirms.
I grab my long black cloak from my room and wrap it around myself, sneaking out of the dungeons as slyly as I possibly can. Fortunately for me, I manage to make it all the way to the edge of the forbidden forest before I hear any sign of another living being.
"Shit! You stood on my foot, Wormy" I hear the voice of James Potter snap.
"I'm sorry, Prongs!" Peter apologises.
"Will you two shut up?" Sirius scolds them.
"Remind me again why I'm friends with you lot?" Remus sighs to himself.
"Because we're the best friends you're ever gonna find" James declares cockily.
"Big headed, twit" I murmur.
"Did you hear that?" Remus suddenly stops.
"Hear what, mate?" Sirius questions.
"I heard someone whispering, it sounded like-" Remus cuts himself off.
"Like who?" Peter presses.
"Nothing. I'm probably just imagining it" Remus replies and I hear them walking again.
I wait until they're completely out of hearing range before darting into the forest with a smile on my face as the wind blows through my blonde curls and the moon beams down on me. Finding a nice clearing in the woods, I hang up my cloak on a tree branch and kick off my black gogo boots. I stand in the middle of the clearing and stare up at the moon with a deep breath before starting to transfigure into my animagus.
It takes merely minutes after the years of practice before hand and I'm soon standing on all four fluffy white paws. I drag a branch over my boots to hide them before taking off in a sprint through the woods. I dodge trees and leap over stumps, adrenaline filling my veins as I run as fast as I possibly can in hopes of wearing myself out so that I can sleep.
A while into my running, I hear the snap of a branch and instead of freezing in my place or running away, I instinctively chase the animal which happens to be a deer. I hunt the stag as if I haven't eaten in months and this is the first sight of food, which wouldn't be all that dramatic since all I've eaten this week is a bowl of strawberries.
Finally, after around an hour, I viciously pounce at the stag and pin it down to the grass, growling as it struggles to get away. The loud squeak of a rodent causes me to look up and I'm completely in shock at the trio of strange animals that are stood in front of me. Another stag stands tall with a small rat upon it's head and a dog at it's side, all three animals staring at me almost worriedly.
I let go of the stag under me and it immediately darts into the woods, but I'm too focused on the sight before me. Before either animal can make any sudden moves, a large brown wolf comes barrelling out of the trees and playfully tackles the black dog onto the grass. I notice that it's not just any old wolf by the sheer size of the animal, it must be a werewolf. My heart beats a little faster in concern until I remember that animals are no threat to lycanthrope and so they won't attack unprovoked.
I take a step forward but freeze when my paw snaps a twig and the wolf looks at me sharply. The rat squeaks loudly and the dog gently steps in front of the wolf as if to warn it away from me, but I have other ideas.
I slowly and carefully pad my way across the grass, towards the strange animals. As I stand in front of them, my eyes lock onto the pair belonging to the wolf and my heart skips a beat at the sight of the honey brown eyes that stare back at me. The familiar scent of chocolate and parchment fills my nose, causing me to let out a content purr slip past my lips.
The dog and the stag back away slightly as the wolf steps forward and softly touches my nose with his own, whining impatiently. With a satisfied meow, I pounce forward and tackle Remus to the grass like he had done to the dog merely minutes ago. He wrestles with me until I pin him down and he reacts by nipping my neck, causing me to yelp. I roll off of him and scamper off, into the trees.
The sound of all four animals chasing after me makes me fasten my pace joyfully, happy for the challenge of not letting them catch me. I make it to the clearing I changed in and I hide in the shadows, crouched down in a bush. The stag, the rat and the dog stop in the middle of the clearing, looking around cluelessly which makes me internally laugh. I get too distracted by watching the animals in front of me trip over themselves in confusion that I forget there was four animals chasing me, not three.
I am tackled into the clearing by Remus and he pins me on my back, his large fluffy paw on my throat. He looks proudly at his friends and I use his distraction to kick him with my back legs, jumping up as he tumbles backwards. Before I can recover, the dog jumps at me with an excited tail wag and I am all too happy to play.

As the sun rises and we are all exhausted from running around all night, the animals turn to Remus as he growls in pain. I watch in worry as he claws at the grass, his bones cracking violently and his fur disappearing. Within the next five minutes, instead of a furry brown wolf sitting on the grass there is a tired looking Remus Lupin dressed in red plaid pyjama bottoms and a white t shirt.
The stag transfigures back into it's human state and I wish I could say that I'm surprised to see James Potter's curly head of hair and infectious smile. The rat is next, Peter Pettigrew stretching out with a yawn and laying his head on James' shoulder. Lastly, the dog is revealed to be Sirius who helps Remus up to his feet and pats him on the back with a proud grin.
The four boys turn to me almost simultaneously and by the looks of confusion on the other three boys faces, I can tell they have no clue who I really am. Remus on the other hand, smiles warmly as he carefully approaches me and crouches down in front of me, hesitantly reaching out to brush back the fur on my head. I worriedly glance at the other three boys, afraid that they'll tattle on me to the teachers or our classmates. My parents can't find out.
"Don't be afraid, cub. We won't tell" Remus assures me, stroking my fur.
I purr happily, leaning into his touch and butterflies erupt in my stomach at the sound of the newly given pet name. Much to my dislike, Remus stands up and takes a step back to give me space as I transfigure back to my human form. The trio of boys to gasp in surprise and I awkwardly wave at them.
"No way!" James shrieks.
"Are you having a laugh?" Sirius groans dramatically.
"Angel!" Peter cheers happily, making me smile from my place on the grass in my nightdress.
"Hi, Pete" I grin.
"I didn't know you were an animagus" Remus comments with an amused smile.
"There's a lot you don't know about me, Lupin" I reply smugly.
"How long?" Sirius demands.
"Since third year" I answer with a shrug "You guys?"
"Fifth year" James answers.
When no one speaks, my gaze moves to Remus once more and I cross my arms over my chest.
"So, you're a werewolf?" I question and all trace of happiness is wiped clean off his face.
"Evangeline" Sirius snaps in a warning tone and I frown in guilt.
"I'm sorry, Remus. I didn't know that it's a sore subject for you" I say sincerely.
"Aren't you scared?" He questions me, his eyes shining with sadness "Disgusted even?"
"Not at all" I respond immediately.
"Why not?" He asks.
"I happen to like wolves" I tell him before leaning in and whispering "Especially the pretty ones"
The Lupin boy flushes a tint of pink and I triumphantly smirk, walking over to the tree where my things are. I ignore the four gazes that are burning into my scantily clad body, pulling my cloak around my neck and slipping my boots on.
"I'll see you around, boys" I salute them.
