MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th 1977
I walk through the halls of the castle with a little skip in my step as I make my way towards the Gryffindor Tower, somewhere I wouldn't usually be happy at all to go near but the circumstances of tonight have me grinning happily. My curly blonde hair brushes against my white long sleeved shirt clad back and my hiked up grey pleated skirt sways gently where it ends at my upper thighs, my black heeled boots clicking against the cement floor. As I reach the painting of the fat lady, I lean against the railing and she looks down her nose at me as I loosen the green tie around my neck, the Slytherin emblem proudly displayed on the material.
"What is a snake like you doing here?" She questions me suspiciously.
"Bugger off" I snap at her and she glares at me.
"You are a foul young lady" She declares.
"So I've been told" I shrug nonchalantly.
The portrait swings open and Remus exits the opening with a frustrated look on his face, the other three marauders right behind him.
"I'm not being funny, but you lot are really getting on my nerves" Remus huffs at his friends, none of them noticing my presence.
"We're just looking out for you" Peter assures him.
"I tell ya, Moony. Those Malfoys are bloody nutcases" Sirius adds.
"Ouch" I announce my presence and they all freeze, looking at me in surprise "That almost hurt, Rius"
"I'm not sorry" Sirius tells me.
"Padfoot" Remus mutters, elbowing his grey eyed friend.
"You're not wrong either" I shrug nonchalantly.
"Look at you" Sirius hums with a smirk "A self aware sociopath"
"You're just jealous that your family like me more than they like you" I declare with no sympathy and his amused expression dissolves into anger.
"How is your family doing, Evangeline?" He asks with a malicious smirk "During summer I heard that you stumbled through the Black fireplace barely conscious after your father hexed you so bad that you forgot your own name"
"Shut up" I demand, feeling physically sick at the memory "You sad daft little wanker"
"Seems I've hit a nerve" He grins triumphantly, glancing at his friends who instead of smiling at him proudly like he thought they'd be, are looking at him with frowns.
"That was too far, Pads" James tells him.
"Oh, sod off. She deserves it" Sirius scoffs.
"No one deserves that" Remus declares, shaking his head at the boy.
"Don't be mad at him on my account" I tell the boys, crossing my arms across my chest "It's not as if I haven't said a lot worse"
"Exactly" Sirius mutters with a glare.
"Come on, Remus. It's eleven" I state, turning my back to them and holding my head up high as I walk away from them.
I hear the sound of the tall boy running after me and I turn the corner before slowing down a little to let him catch up. He falls in step with me and I glance at him, a sympathetic smile on his face.
"I'm sorry about him" Remus tells me.
"Don't apologise for someone who isn't at all apologetic, Remus" I reply simply.
We are enveloped in a blanket of silence, the only sound being our shoes on the ground and our breaths.
"If you don't mind me asking, why do you and Sirius hate each other so much?" Remus questions.
"He's a knob head" I shrug.
Instead of prying, Remus just smiles in amusement and nods, letting me be. I admire that he doesn't press on the issue to make me give him answers and so, I decide to actually answer his question.
"We were friends as children, but I was always closer with Regulus and Sirius felt left out. When we got to Hogwarts he was sorted into Gryffindor and I was sorted into Slytherin. That was the last straw, I guess. He made new friends that he is happier with now and we are all doing just fine without him" I explain to the lanky brunette.
"Don't you miss him?" Remus frowns.
"That dramatic tosser? Not at all" I lie with disgusted scoff.
"It's okay if you do, you know. It doesn't make you any less of a person" The Lupin boy assures me.
"I miss Sirius Black like I miss dog shite on my shoe" I declare confidently.
"Okay, I'm convinced" Remus hums, his tone contradicting his statement.
"Remus" I say in a warning tone.
"I'm just saying, I don't think there would be as much aggression between you two as there is if you truly didn't care about the other at all" He replies.
"Wanna play a game?" I ask him, changing the subject.
"Sure" He shrugs.
"Two truths and a lie?" I suggest and he nods "Okay, you go first"
Remus ponders his statements for a couple minutes before looking at me with a bright smile.
"One, I tried out for the quidditch team but didn't make the cut. Two, the prank to switch all the students robe colours last year was my idea. And three, I have more books than friends" He lists out.
"Number two has to be the lie. There's no way it was your idea to cause that madness" I reply and he smirks causing me to gasp "It was you?"
"Yes. I told James who told Sirius and Peter, so it was my idea originally" He nods in amusement.
"You sneaky little lion" I tease him, nudging his arm with my shoulder.
"Number one was the lie. I'd never try out for quidditch because I'd rather do something worth while with my time" Remus explains to me, his smile never wavering "Your turn"
"Okay" I chirp "One, deep down I don't believe in blood purity. Two, I lost my virginity to my best friend. And three, I only trust one person other than myself"
"Two is the lie" He answers after a second or two.
"What makes you say that?" I hum.
"Well, if you really believed in the whole blood purity nonsense then you wouldn't be talking to me. Also it doesn't take a genius to figure out that all the people you surround yourself with are merely acquaintances apart from the odd few, who you still can't fully trust because of their loyalties to their pureblood families. Regulus is the only person you know who would choose you over his family" Remus wisely elaborates and I stare at him in awe as he talks.
"Are you stalking me or something?" I joke and he blushes brightly in embarrassment.
"No, of course not. I'm just very observant" He explains.
"Well, you're also very correct" I tell him.
"Yeah?" He smiles weakly and I nod.
"I've never slept with Regulus, contrary to popular belief" I reply.
"We're just friends" I add.
