SEVENTH YEAR
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st 1977
I walk down platform 9¾ in boredom as my parents saunter proudly behind me, their heads held up high as they look down their nose at everyone else in sight, and my family's house elf is dragging my trunk along beside me.
A body slams into me and I stumble back, turning to see a guilty looking redheaded girl that I know as Lily Evans.
"Watch where you're going, you filthy little mudblood" I sneer, pushing her away from me.
Her blonde best friend looks as though she wants to pounce on me as she steps forward but Lily holds her back, pleading with her to let it go.
"Got something to say, McKinnon?" I snap at the blonde.
"Nothing for you" Marlene spits back in anger.
"Keep walking, Evangeline" My father demands and I freeze at the venom in his tone "Stop wasting your breath on filth"
Lily sends me a sympathetic smile but I glare at her in anger, turning and strutting away from the pair of Gryffindors.
As I'm heading towards the first carriage that I have sat in the past six years on the way to Hogwarts, the sight of a dark haired boy with a bored look on his face makes a grin tug at my lips.
"Reggie!" I holler, happiness flooding throughout me for the first time since before the summer.
His head snaps up at the call of his nickname and his lips curl up into a smile when he spots me in the crowd. He opens his arms out to me and I ignore the stares of people around me as I make a mad dash towards my best friend. I fling myself at the boy, wrapping my arms around him like a koala and he hugs me tightly, one hand on the small of my back and the other on the back of my head.
"That was a summer from hell without you" I mumble into his neck and he chuckles.
"Tell me about it" He agrees.
I hear the sound of my mother clearing her throat and I huff, peeling myself away from Regulus to face both of our parents.
Orion and Walburga Black have been close friends with Abraxas and Carina Malfoy since they themselves were wandering the Slytherin common room of Hogwarts.
While Regulus's parents have not been sly at all in the hints they've sent me about marrying their youngest son, my own parents would rather I married one of my cousins and kept the Malfoy name instead of taking Black as my last name.
"It's wonderful to see you, Evangeline" Walburga smiles at me widely, reaching out to fix my fringe for me "Although it seems you were happiest to see Regulus"
The woman winks at me and from the corner of my eye I can see my mother roll her eyes before looking at my father with an exasperated look but he gives her a warning glare.
"Of course. I'm ecstatic to see him" I declare, happy to piss off my parents as I take a hold of Regulus' hand and the boy smiles down at me in amusement.
The train whistles loudly in warning for us all to board and I perk up happily, turning to the Malfoy house elf holding my trunk up from falling. The elf smiles bashfully and pushes the trunk towards me as I crouch down in front of him.
"Dobby wishes that Mistress Evangeline has a great year at Hogwarts" He says to me in a hushed voice and I smile, taking the trunk from him.
"Thank you, Dobby" I whisper, pinching his cheek.
His smile widens at the affectionate pinch and I stand up straight, looking to my parents. My mother immediately starts fussing with the green pleated skirt I'm wearing before folding up the sleeves of my black sweater so they aren't covering my hands because according to her, if your sleeves cover your hands it is a sign of laziness.
"Remember the rules children" My father declares and Orion nods.
"No fraternising with halfbloods, mudbloods or blood traitors. If you're going to hurt, bully or maim a lesser student, don't get caught. Work hard in every class to get good grades. And don't disappoint us" Orion rants.
"Yes, sirs" Regulus and I reply in unison, nodding our heads.
The four adults look at us with stoney expressionless faces and I give my parents a curt nod before letting my hand slip into Regulus' once again.
"Come on, Reg" I hum, tugging him towards the train door "Don't want to get left behind"
Without so much as a goodbye, we haul our trunks onto train and enter the largest carriage that the Slytherin students have claimed as their own.
"Angel! Reg!" Two voices holler over the chatter.
A smile creeps onto my face when I spot our friends, Mallory Belovna and Evan Rosier, waving at us enthusiastically from their seats.
"Hello, ladies" I chirp, sitting on the opposite side of the table to them.
"Excuse me" Evan frowns as Regulus snorts, sitting down next to me.
"How was your summer, Angel?" Mallory asks me.
"Boring as ever" I groan in annoyance "My parents have spent the whole summer planning Lucius and Narcissa's wedding, so I've been under close watch to assure I don't cause any trouble before the big day. What about you?"
"Meh, it was fine" Mallory shrugs "Spent the summer with my grandparents"
"My summer was great, thanks for asking" Evan tells us.
"Real cute, Evan" Regulus hums and the dirty blonde haired boy grins.
Within the next couple hours we've changed into our school robes and arrived at Hogwarts. The first years are taken separately while we all enter the great hall and sit down at our respective house tables. I sit between Regulus and Mallory who is twirling curled strands from my right pony tail around her finger, Evan on the other side of Regulus.
The first years are sorted into the four houses and the feast starts, everyone tucking into the food that appears on the long tables.
My left ponytail on the other side of my head is tugged on and I turn to my boys with a glare, Evan pointing at Regulus with wide eyes. My best friend slyly nods his head over to the other tables and without making it too obvious, I turn my head to look. I catch a glimpse of honey brown eyes watching me and my lips curl up into a grin as Remus' head snaps down to look at his plate. My eyes are then met by a confused blue pair that are covered by round glasses and I wink at the Potter boy, his eyes widening as he turns to the blonde next to him to see if Pettigrew saw the same thing that he did.
"Are you still messing with those filthy marauders?" Amycus huffs and I look at the annoyed ginger haired boy sitting across from me.
"Why, are you jealous?" I coo.
The Carrow boy seethes in anger, practically growling at me and I giggle in response, loving that I can get under his skin so easily.
"Easy, Carrow" Regulus warns him, pulling me onto his lap to avoid a fight.
Mallory shuffles closer to sit in my spot, her hand subconsciously grabbing my ankle and I smile at the gentle show of her love language, knowing she doesn't even mean to do it.
I sit sideways on Regulus' lap, turning my head to look at my best friend and he senses my gaze, looking at me.
"What?" He questions.
"Remember when you had a crush on me?" I smirk and he groans.
"Must you mention this again, Eva? I was a child" He argues.
"Don't be embarrassed, Reggie" I tease him, ruffling his hair "You know you're my favourite Black"
"That's only because Bella and Cissy aren't Blacks anymore" He retorts, slapping my hand away.
"That is untrue, you little toad. You have always been my favourite" I counter, fixing his shirt collar "I am just their favourite"
He shoots me a sarcastic smile and tickles my sides, causing me to burst into a fit of giggles. I feel eyes on us like their is every year, but I completely ignore them until two familiar sets of icy blue and dark brown eyes on us catches my attention.
"Kiss me, Reg" I tell the boy and he furrows his brows in confusion.
"Now, why would I do that?" He mumbles lowly.
"I'm trying to get us both laid" I explain, placing my hand on his chest.
His icy greyish blue eyes dart in the direction of Barty Crouch Jr and Rabastan Lestrange who's eyes are still glued to us. I roll my eyes with a smile and gently grab his face, turning it to look back at me before leaning in. Our lips are pressed together and like every other time they have, I'm reminded by his hand placement on my knee that I'm not exactly his preferred gender to snog.
"Oh, Merlin" Mallory groans "Not again"
"I'm trying to eat" Evan complains.
The sound of our friends causes the both of us to laugh and I pull away from him, fixing his hair. I swing my legs behind Mallory and get up, turning to offer Regulus my hand with a mischievous grin. He returns the facial expression, grabbing my hand and standing up as I quickly plant a quick kiss on Mallory's cheek, making her grin at her plate. Ignoring the stares we get from the other houses, I run towards the door of the hall with my hand still firmly in Regulus' grip and he jogs behind me, the both of us laughing in amusement.
We reach the dimly lit halls and I roughly push my best friend against the stone wall, making him gasp.
"You dirty little snake" He teases me, yanking me towards him and I laugh, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"I take pride in being the only girl you've ever snogged" I admit and he grins, pressing a quick kiss to my lips.
"You're too pretty not to snog every once in a while" He shrugs.
"This is why you're my favourite Black" I hum.
I hear the sound of someone clearing their throat and we turn our heads to see Barty Crouch Jr stood there with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Every bloody time, Malfoy" He huffs at me.
"You're just mad that he was mine first" I reply cockily, not removing my arms from around Regulus who has a smug smirk on his face aimed at Barty.
"Paws off, mate" Another voice adds and Rabastan approaches us.
"These paws?" Regulus asks sarcastically, moving his hands painfully slow from my waist to my arse.
"Are you two not bored of this little act yet?" Barty asks in annoyance, his eyes narrowed on my hands in Regulus' hair.
"Are you bored?" I ask, turning my head to face the youngest Black.
"Not at all. You?" He replies.
"Nope" I chirp.
"Okay, that's more than enough" Rabastan declares, stepping forward and tugging me away.
I slip out of the Lestrange boy's hold for a second to press a kiss on Regulus' cheek and he grins at me in amusement as I let Rabastan usher me away.
"Treat my boy good, Crouch!" I holler.
"Right back at you, Malfoy!" Barty counters.
