Mallory and I enter the potions classroom late due to Alecto turning our alarms off out of spite and Professor Slughorn smiles brightly at us.

"Wonderful to see you, Miss Malfoy" He greets me before turning to Mallory "You too, Miss Belovna"

"The pleasures all mine, sir" I reply politely with a grin "Is that a new suit? You look dashing"

"This old thing?" He scoffs, trying to act nonchalant but the grin on his face gives away his happiness at my comment.

I walk towards the rest of the class and I pause when I realise that the Gryffindors and Slytherins in the class aren't divided, they've been mixed together with a seating plan.

"You've got to be kidding me" Mallory mutters.

I notice that the only empty spaces are next to Sirius Black and Remus Lupin in the middle row.

"Oh, no" I groan and Mallory snorts.

Without hesitation, my friend takes proud strides forward and stands next to Sirius, smirking at me. I glare at her in annoyance and drag myself over to the desk on the opposite side of the aisle, dropping my books onto the table. Professor Slughorn starts the lesson and I watch the instructions that he writes on the chalkboard.

"I don't bite" A soft voice speaks once the Professer announces that we should start.

I turn to Remus in shock and he's looking at me with an amused smile.

"I didn't say you did" I blurt out.

"You're sure acting like I do" He replies, glancing down at the table where I'm standing.

I look down and realise I'm stood at the very edge of the table, furthest away from the boy next to me.

"Sorry" I mumble, moving to stand where I should be.

"It's fine. I get it" He shrugs, grabbing a chopping board and a knife.

"You do?" I ask curiously, pouring a neon green liquid into our cauldron.

"Yes, I'm a halfblooded Gryffindor and you're a pureblooded Slytherin. I know what you must think about people like me" He explains as he chops up a strange looking vegetable and I frown.

"You think I hate you?" I question him.

"Don't you?" He responds, looking at me "You couldn't get out of the hall faster after the headmaster paired us together and you clearly weren't happy to be stuck with me in this class either"

"You got me there" I admit, toying with a pair of scissors "Maybe you just make me nervous"

"I make you nervous?" He repeats in disbelief, looking at me as if I have grown three heads.

"I said maybe" I counter with a teasing grin.

The boy moves his gaze back down as he adds the chopped up vegetable to the cauldron and I frown, my gaze dropping to my finger as it gently slides across the blade of the scissors.

"Stop playing with sharp objects" Remus orders, taking the scissors from me and placing them on the table.

I turn my head to my friend at the other table with wide eyes and Mallory is grinning at me widely, covering her mouth to stop herself from laughing. Sirius elbows the raven haired girl and innocently whistles, looking at the ceiling. Mallory face morphs into pure annoyance and she turns to him, slapping his head. The Black pouts at her and rubs the back of his head while she scolds him, pointing her finger in his face. I snort in amusement and turn back to my own table, deciding to start stirring the potion like Slughorn had said to.

"Hypothetically, why do I make you nervous?" Remus asks without looking up from where he's mixing two different coloured liquids.

"Just hypothetically?" I reply and he nods "Well, you're not scared of me like most people are"

"Sirius and James aren't scared of you" Remus counters.

"Yeah, but they're twats. I can argue with them and they'll match my anger" I explain "You're too nice to yell at me. That makes me uneasy"

"Would you rather I yelled at you?" He frowns in confusion.

"No. You're okay" I answer with an amused grin and he nods, the ghost of a smile on his lips.

I sit at dinner in boredom, pushing my food around my plate with no intention of eating it and I glance up to see Remus laughing at James who is balancing a spoon on his nose.

"Is that a Gryffindor half blood you're gazing at, Malfoy?" Barty teases me.

"I'm not gazing at anyone" I lie with a glare.

"Don't lie, Angel. We've all seen you staring" Barty retorts.

"It's disgusting" Amycus scoffs.

"There's nothing worth staring at" Alecto adds.

"Shut up" I snap in annoyance.

"Do you want the nice boy to like you?" Barty coos.

"Leave her alone" Regulus demands.

"I hate to break it to you, but nice boys don't like girls like you" Barty tells me.

"Girls like me?" I question.

"You're not a nice girl, Angel. You're a bitch to everyone and, frankly, I think you're a whore. You're a Slytherin from a pureblood supremacist family and no nice halfblood boy from the Gryffindor table is going to be interested in you" Barty rants.

"Piss off, Barty" I growl at him in anger to mask my hurt.

"We don't mix with halfbreeds, Malfoy. You should know this" Alecto says matter of factly.

"It's not as if she's shagging him, you twats. She's just looking at him" Mallory spits.

"She wants him though" Amycus grins maliciously "Don't you, Malfoy?"

"Will you stop picking on her?" Evan huffs in annoyance.

"We're just having a laugh" Barty chuckles "It's not as if she could get him to like her back anyways"

"Says who?" I retort.

"Angel, no" Mallory warns her.

"Says me" Barty smirks.

"Getting him to like me is a piece of bloody cake. I could make him fall for me if I wanted to" I state confidently.

"You wanna bet on that?" Barty asks.

"No, she doesn't" Regulus says sternly.

"Bet" I declare, holding out my hand.

Barty laughs in amusement and the Carrow siblings snigger as he shakes my hand.
