WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th 1977

I wake up to the sunlight streaming in through a gap in the curtains around my bed and I turn my head with a sigh, only to find another human being laying next to me. Lily Evans' red hair is splayed across my pillow like a dark halo around her innocent head and a content smile is on her lips as she dreams peacefully next to me. I almost regret treating the angelic girl badly until my father's voice in my head reminds me why I do it.

"Mudbloods and halfbloods are inferior beings. Hardly worth a glance, so never waste your time with them. The Malfoy name will not be tarnished by you associating with filth"

Although I treat them like the filth I was raised believing they were, I don't necessarily agree with my father nor brother's beliefs. I like to think that fooling around with the people I'm warned to stay away from is my way of rebelling without being shunned like Sirius was. If my father could see me in this moment in bed with a mudblood, a female at that, he would surely have a heart attack.

I'm pulled out of my thoughts when Lily's eyes flutter open, revealing her pretty green eyes and I turn my gaze to the gap in the curtains.

"Good morning, Lilypad" I hum.

"Good morning" She mumbles sleepily.

There's a short silence in which I can feel the girl's gaze on me but I say nothing, letting her tell me what she so obviously wants to.

"So, how does this thing work?" She asks.

"What do you mean?" I reply, turning my head on the pillow to face her.

"I've never really had a one time thing before" She admits.

"Oh, I see. Well, I'll tell you how this goes" I explain simply, sitting up "We both get dressed and head up for breakfast. I'll sit down with my friends and you'll sit down with yours. Then we go back to how everything was before. You can keep hooking up with James Potter on the down low. I can hook up with other pretty people. And we pretend this never happened"

"That easy?" Lily questions.

"That easy" I confirm.

Lily and I then do exactly as I said, the both of us climbing out of bed and changing into our uniforms, ignoring the prying eyes of my nosey amused dorm mates. We then head to the great hall, Lily's head down as I make conversation with Pandora and Mallory. As we reach the doors, I feel many pairs of eyes trained on me and I can bet the redhead does too.

"It was a pleasure spending the night with you, Evans" I coo teasingly and she blushes a light pink.

"You too" She replies quietly before hurrying off to the gaping trio of Marlene McKinnon, Dorcas Meadowes and Mary Macdonald.

I smirk widely at the Gryffindor girls, sending a flirty grin to Dorcas who I've had the pleasure of spending the night with on a few occasions.

"Come on, Casanova" Mallory chuckles, tugging me towards the Slytherin table.

My smirk melts into a smile when I spot Evan choking on a mouthful of pastry and Regulus scolding him for eating too fast.

"There's my boys" I chirp, plopping down in between them.

"There you are!" Evan says as he swallows the pastry in his mouth "So, how was the ginger?"

"She's not ginger, she's a redhead" I correct matter of factly "Alecto and Amycus are ginger"

"What did you say?" Amycus says, turning from his conversation with his sister.

"I pointed out that you're both ginger" I tell him.

"Please tell me that you didn't actually sleep with that mudblood" Alecto buts in.

"She wasn't the first and she probably won't be the last" I shrug nonchalantly.

"You're gonna end up just like Siri-" Before the girl can finish her sentence I groan loudly over her voice.

"I am sick and tired of hearing the same thing over and over again, Carrow. No one cares" I retort, knowing fine well that I do care and that I am constantly in fear of ending up like the eldest Black brother.

"I'm just warning you" The ginger girl grumbles in annoyance.

"Well, consider me warned" I state.

For the second time this week I am walking towards the Gryffindor Tower for my prefect rounds with Remus, although this time I bump into the golden boys before I reach that section of the school.

"Oh, look. It's the snake" Sirius chirps.

"Oh, look. It's the prick" I counter.

"You know, I'd like to know what spell you put on my sweet Lily flower" James speaks up.

"It's all charm, Potter. Something I see that you severely lack" I retort.

"How have you not physically ripped your hair out after being around her?" Sirius asks Remus seriously.

"Lay off, will ya?" Remus huffs, pushing James into Sirius.

"How about you lay off?" Sirius argues, pushing James into Remus.

"Why don't you both lay off?!" James shrieks, pushing them both away from him.

The other two boys take that as an act of war and begin wrestling each other like children.

"Hi" Peter smiles at me sheepishly.

"I'm Evangeline, but you can call me Angel" I smile at the blonde boy, holding out my hand.

"I'm Peter" He replies, shaking my hand.

"Are they always like this?" I ask curiously, pointing at the fighting trio of boys.

"Most of the time, yeah" Peter chuckles.

"Boys?" I call out but they can't seem to hear me so I speak louder "Boys?!"

"Hey, wankers!" Peter hollers.

"What?!" Sirius, Remus and James shout in unison.

"Remus, we should probably get going" I answer and the tallest boy perks up.

"Oh, yeah" He realises, pushing James into Sirius one last time before walking over to me.

"Later, losers!" I yell as I walk away before adding on "See you around, Peter!"

"See ya, Angel!" Peter replies cheerily.

"Pete seems to like you, which is unusual" Remus says before his eyes widen and he looks at me "Not that I think it's unusual for people to like you. It's just unusual for Peter to make conversation with people who aren't us"

I laugh at his rambling explanation and he relaxes, realising that I'm not upset by his words.

"Peter's cute" I comment.

"Oh. You think?" Remus says with furrowed brows and I nod.

"He doesn't annoy me half as much as James and Sirius" I add.

"What about me?" The Lupin boy asks curiously.

"Hmm?" I hum.

"What do you think about me?" He elaborates.

"What do you think about me?" I counter and he smiles.

"I asked you first" He replies.

I let the question hang in the air for a few moments before I turn around and start walking backwards, looking up at the brunette.

"I think you're sweet, and smart, and funny" I tell the boy who blushes a little at the compliments "I also think you're the best looking person at Hogwarts"

"I-I, thank you" He mumbles bashfully.

"You're very welcome, Lupin" I chirp with a grin "Now tell me what you think of me"

He hesitates for a second before shoving his hands into his pockets and smiling warmly.

"I think that you are misunderstood. That you are actually a really caring and kind person but you try to hide it. You're really funny in an insulting kinda way. And I think you're exceptionally beautiful" Remus answers and I feel a heat rise to my cheeks as I turn to walk straight, falling into step with him.

"You're making me blush" I joke, to avoid looking weak and he chuckles.

"I brought you something" He admits.

"What'd you bring me?" I smile up at him.

He pulls out a book from his robes and I raise a brow, staring at it in awe. It's a navy blue hardcover book with silver cursive writing on the front and side.

"A book?" I question.

"I just thought you'd want to borrow it since I promised that-" I cut him off with a laugh.

"I love it, Remus" I grin happily, taking the book from him to examine the pages briefly.

"You do?" He asks in a surprised tone.

"I do" I assure him.
