02 ~ Sludge 2.0
This was something Miku had never trained for. A mass of pure liquid was surrounding her as if trying to make a mould of her body, and she couldn't do a single thing about it. None of her punches, kicks, or attempts to activate her Quirk were effective at all--they just amused the villain.
As Miku opened her mouth to scream for help--though she doubted it'd come, as there were still no pro heroes in the area--the monster filled it with disgusting sludge that made her eyes water and her nose burn.
"Oh, you're very strong. Your Quirk is even more useful than that boy's," the villain chuckled. "You are a very good skin suit, you know. I might just keep you."
Choking on the smell of sewer, Miku struggled to free herself. The wind swirled around them uselessly, no longer under her control. The sludge villain's Quirk must've had something to do with that.
What do I do? Miku had been trained to escape all sorts of people with heteromorphic Quirks, but none who were just a viscous pile of liquid. I can barely even breathe, can't see a single thing, and Windsweep is no longer under my control.
The reality of the situation was starting to sink in. She was fully trapped, and backup was an indefinite distance away. For all Miku knew, her mom hadn't even gotten her message yet.
"LET US GO, YOU BITCH!" the boy screamed, managing to free his mouth from its gag for a second. His hands started to glow, though Miku didn't think it was his doing, as he glanced down in surprise for a moment. "I'LL KILL YOU!"
BOOM!
An explosion sounded from directly behind him, blowing up the very grocery store Miku had set out to find in the first place. It took her a moment to realize that was the boy's Quirk: Explosions.
These villains must feel like the luckiest people in the world, she thought ruefully. Commandeering two extremely powerful Quirks. Mom, please hurry. They can probably destroy the entire city with just an out-of-control Windsweep alone, not to mention his Quirk seems to be all about destruction.
In a sudden, desperate attempt to stay conscious, Miku jerked her head back, escaping the goo for enough time to breathe before the monster's hand went back over her face. This time it covered her eyes, too. She violently coughed as a mix of smoke and slime entered her lungs.
The faint sound of screaming could be heard as the villain ahead of them blasted through the grocery store and entered it, Miku's captor not far behind. They were obviously testing out their new Quirks, though the wind wasn't obeying the villain holding Miku very well. She could hear it growling to itself about "stupid wasted potential".
A wave of relief washed over Miku. So he can't use my Quirk properly. Makes sense, since Windsweep is very fond of me. Now he can't fully destroy the city.
Then again, the boy's Quirk seemed to be perfectly capable of blowing up the entirety of Musutafu, as well.
Miku didn't know how she was acting so calm--maybe because the stress of her Quirk was temporarily off her shoulders--but she was pretty sure that she was about three seconds away from a complete mental breakdown. It didn't help that she wasn't able to breathe, either. That damned villain's hand was no longer inside of her mouth, thank goodness, but it was still covering it.
Just then, the wind picked up. But it wasn't regular wind. It had a different, strong scent to it. A familiar scent: cloves and fresh-cut grass.
"STEP AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" Elle screeched, the distinct sound of broken glass accompanying her entrance. "THE BOY, TOO!"
"They're just children, for crying out loud!" another hero added.
The cavalry has arrived. Miku grinned as her mom's wind made its way to her and pushed the sludge villain's hand away a small amount, allowing her to inhale for a moment before being gagged again.
"What the hell is this?" Miku could recognize the voice of Death Arms, a local pro-hero, as he spoke. "Some kinda goo."
"Stay back or I'll snap her neck!" the supervillain holding Miku ordered, grabbing her neck with both of his hands and preparing to twist.
Now this is a hold I know how to escape.
She twisted her body to a quarter turn, momentarily freeing her arm and punching the sludge villain in his disgusting yellow eye. While it wasn't as effective as it was supposed to be, she managed to get out of his grip for a second. At the same time, the boy across from her started to struggle to get free again, yelling about killing the villains.
"LET ME GO!" he screeched.
Miku could recognize the note of panic in his tone, making her more desperate to escape her captor's grip. She wriggled out of his hold once again, almost slipping free until he snatched her wrist with a third hand she hadn't noticed earlier. Meanwhile, the other villain was using the boy's power to blow the whole store up, sparking fires and causing general mayhem.
"Kamui Woods, rescue the civilians," Elle ordered, throwing an arm out to point at a few children cowering under a cash register. "Backdraft, keep the fire this kid's Quirk is causing to a minimum! The rest of you heroes, damage control! I'll focus on taking the villains down."
"Yes, Cyclone!" everyone shouted, reminding Miku that, while her mom wasn't known very well in the world of regulars, all the heroes respected her authority.
"Miku, can you hear me?" Elle turned to face her daughter.
This was the first time Miku had seen her mom in her hero costume in quite a while. While the light gray bodysuit was fairly plain, with only a few more white designs around the sleeves, she knew the section of the back that was cut out did wonders for fluidity while flying, and the white half cape with a black tornado symbol on the back was iconic.
Miku blinked a few times, taking a while to realize her mother had talked to her via the wind. She nodded.
"I know this situation isn't ideal, especially because all of these heroes' Quirks aren't even helpful against those villains, but, in ten seconds, I need you to attempt to jump, okay? My wind will help you go higher. Once you escape the monster, your Quirk should return, and you can work on freeing the boy."
Miku nodded once again, clenching her jaw tightly. This wasn't her first time fighting a villain with her mom by her side, but it was the first time All Might or Keigo or her dad weren't there to help, too. She'd have to be extra careful this time.
"Five... four..." Elle started counting, "three... two... one..."
Miku bent her legs, angled them to point away from the villain, and tensed her muscles, preparing to leap up as high as possible.
"NOW!"
As Miku lifted off the ground, her mom's wind attached to her feet and sent her an extra four or so metres up in the air, getting her far enough away from the monster that her Quirk returned. A whoosh of cool air met her and caught her as she started to fall, alerting her that the wind was hers to control. Though she'd expected to feel heavier as the responsibilities of having Windsweep again set in, Miku felt quite the opposite. More adrenaline began to pump and her entire body was light and agile.
Miku turned to the boy and made her Quirk circle around her, turning into a mini-tornado. Her hair rose up and her eyes dried out at the amount of focus it took to keep that much wind contained in such a small area, but it was worth it once she released it. The jet of air hit the monster directly in the face, forcing it to let go of the teenager.
The crowd that had gathered at the sight of the battle gasped as they saw the amount of power she had. Some of them whispered to each other, pointing from Cyclone to her, but she paid no attention to them, choosing to instead rush toward the boy and help him off the ground. Once Miku reached him, she used the wind as a shield so neither of the villains could get them.
"Let go of me!" the boy shouted, yanking his wrists out of her grip.
Though he could've phrased it in a nicer way, Miku understood. The entire situation must've been very traumatizing, so the sudden contact had probably overwhelmed him, but it was necessary to get him out of the way. She twisted her hands to a 45-degree angle, making the air-shield completely surround them before carrying them both a few metres away and out of range of the raging winds surrounding her mother.
As she did so, a sense of lightheadedness started to take over. Miku's breath got caught in her throat as she realized what was happening. Her vision blurred as her consciousness appeared to retreat within itself, the winds growing stronger with every passing second. She felt as if her limbs were attached to puppet strings, but the puppet strings were made out of the wind. A cloud entered her mind, making everything around her fuzzier than before.
What? Already? But I didn't even use that much of it!
"Oi, what are you doing?" the boy beside her asked as he noticed the wind picking up. "It doesn't need to be that strong! Stop it!"
Miku couldn't respond. Her legs buckled underneath her, but she didn't fall to the floor. Her Quirk caught her and began to raise her and the boy above the forcefield. No, no, no, not here. There are so many innocent citizens nearby! Where's Dad? Her hair was standing almost completely up, and her eyes were so dry, she thought they were on fire.
"What's wrong with you?" he scowled. "What the fuck are you doing?"
"Eraser!" she faintly heard Elle call. "Get her!"
Miku sighed in relief as her hair lowered and the winds died down, gently dropping her and the boy onto the ground. Her vision began to return and her consciousness found its way back to the front of her mind. She looked around for her saviour, smiling momentarily when her eyes met the glowing red ones of her father. His black cloak, ugly white scarf, and weird goggles had never looked better in that moment.
Shota blinked, and Miku could feel the wind rush back around her, though not crazy, like it was before. Unfortunately, with the distraction of almost losing her sanity, neither Miku nor her companion/fellow abductee noticed a slimy hand until it grabbed them both and wrapped itself around their necks like rope.
Glancing around for her mom, Miku saw her being restrained by the other villain out of the corner of her eye. How fun.
Before Miku could even begin to plan an escape, a flash of green caught her eye. She had to stop herself from dropping her jaw by reminding herself that doing so would likely result in getting sewer goop in her mouth as she watched a boy with green hair launch himself toward her and the kid beside her. He ignored all the heroes, police officers, and bystanders yelling at him to stay back as he charged headfirst at the villain, his eyes wide with pure terror. The boy didn't once hesitate, though, despite his fear.
Does every boy my age have no sense of self-preservation? Miku tensed as he neared, trying her best to warn him to stay away by shaking her head violently.
"Deku?" the boy beside Miku muttered, freeing his mouth for a moment.
"You know him?" Miku asked, but he ignored her.
"YOU'RE TOAST, KID!" the villain bellowed.
The green-haired boy merely ripped his backpack off and threw it into its eye, further proving that he was also an idiot who didn't know the meaning of the word 'survival'.
As the monster recoiled from the impact, Miku clawed at its slime, attempting to get enough of it off her to damage it and hopefully get both of the teenage boys out of there.
"Kacchan!" Deku (?) yelled, running straight at the monster and clawing at the goo surrounding the other boy.
"What the hell?" Kacchan (?) asked, glaring at his acquaintance/friend. "What are you doing here?"
"I don't know!" Deku exclaimed, still clawing at the villain. Miku noted how his legs were still running despite him staying still. "My legs just started moving on their own!"
Just like how mine did when I went to go rescue him, Miku realized.
"Kacchan!" Deku had tears in his eyes as he tried to scrape the slime off his friend. "I couldn't just stand there and watch you die!"
The sludge villain's grip tightened on Kacchan and Miku, forcing them close together. His head was buried into her shoulder and their arms were clumsily tangled around each other. Much to her dismay, her body seized up at the pressure, unable to move.
The blonde boy reacted similarly, though he still managed to pull away from Miku's shoulder enough to yell, "GET THE HELL OFF ME, YOU DAMN SLIME BALL!"
Even in their dire situation, Miku couldn't help but admire his bravery. Kacchan was yelling at a villain who could snap his neck within a millisecond if he felt like it. He didn't even seem scared--merely angry.
She managed to get enough room to turn her head and watch as the villain's hand came crashing down, ready to crush their attempted saviour's frail body into the ground.
"GET AWAY FROM THEM!" a voice Miku could easily recognize yelled, getting closer by the second.
The figure neared them, a hulking mass of pure muscle with a golden blonde head.
Miku's eyes lit up at the sight of her uncle holding back the monster with his fist. "You're here!"
"You know him?" Kacchan asked, but it was Miku's turn to ignore him.
"I really am pathetic," Toshinori murmured, confusing her. "I told you the traits that make a great champion, but I see now I wasn't living up to my own ideal." He ripped the slime off Miku and Kacchan, causing them to tumble onto the ground, with Miku accidentally landing on the poor boy. "Pros are always risking their lives! That's the true test of a hero!"
Miku noted the blood spraying out of his mouth. He's about to transform into his skeleton body, she thought, pursing her lips and standing up. He's gotta hurry. She staggered toward where her mom was still struggling with the other villain, ignoring the scene behind her and the dual cries of confusion from the flabbergasted boys.
The wind swirled around Miku's right arm as she drew it back, aiming directly beside her mom, where the villain was still fighting. She made sure to take bits of Elle's wind along with the normal wind, to alert her to what she was doing. Then she thrust her fist forward, allowing the wind to go ahead of her and hit the monster in the back while her mom did the same thing on the other side of it.
Behind her, she could hear All Might use his Detroit Smash punch on the other villain. The three bursts of air pressure from their attacks collided and spread outward, pushing everything but buildings further away from them. A small whirlwind swirled around them, calling Miku to join it in the chaos.
Thankfully, her father was smart enough to realize the effect the strong wind would have on her, and he immediately used his Quirk, erasing her power long enough that she wouldn't be tempted to join. She sent him a nod of thanks before watching the wind clear up, only for dark rain clouds to appear. They almost instantly began pouring heavy amounts of rain.
The three were left panting heavily, attempting to catch their breath from the amount of power they had to put into their attacks. Miku caught her father using his Quirk on Elle for a moment, too, so she wouldn't also go insane from the amount of power she used.
"Holy crap," Death Arms murmured. "They changed the weather."
Miku fell to her knees, blinking rapidly and allowing her extremely dry eyes to absorb some of the moisture in the air as her mom and uncle captured the unconscious villains. She used the wind to blow the slime and dirt off her, since they made her feel kinda gross.
The crowd cheered loudly for them, though they sounded like mere background noise to the sound of Miku's pumping heart. Of course, All Might was given most of the credit, as usual, but Miku really couldn't care less. It was all a part of the plan to get him the most attention, anyway. He had to be in the spotlight so no one would lose hope in their Symbol of Peace.
Windsweep gently nudged Miku, helping her into a standing position. The other heroes began to clean up the sludge, but she knew they'd be fine if she didn't help. She was just barely a hero-in-training, after all. Technically, she hadn't even gone to a hero school yet; she'd just been trained by her family. And the HPSC. They probably didn't expect her to have the energy to clean up after being in such a draining battle. Instead, she walked over to the two boys behind Toshinori.
She took the opportunity to fully look over them, checking for any obvious injuries while also taking the time to memorize their appearances. They were both shorter than her, with Deku being almost a full head shorter and Kacchan only an inch or two. Deku's hair was wild and the same shade of green as his eyes, while Kacchan's hair was a spiky blonde and his irises were an intense red. Both of them were looking down and facing any direction but each other, though Deku appeared to be doing it out of fear and Kacchan out of anger.
"Hi!" Miku's gray eyes lit up and she waved, regaining some of her energy as more wind gathered around her and fixed up her hair, which had previously been covered in sweat and slime. "Are you two doing alright?"
"Y-yeah," Deku murmured.
"Why do you care?" Kacchan scowled.
"What are your names?" Miku decided to ignore his comment. "Are they actually Deku and Kacchan, or are those--"
"Bakugou Katsuki," the spiky-haired blonde interrupted.
"And I'm Midoriya Izuku," the other boy added.
"Ooh, those names are so cool!" Miku exclaimed. She ordered the wind to die down, as it was making her a bit too energetic. "I'm Kazen Miku. Nice to meet you two."
"You're the daughter of Cyclone, right?" Midoriya's green eyes brightened as he recognized her. "That hero over there! Is it true you were the youngest to ever get her provisional license? How does your Quirk work and what's the name of it? It seems super versatile! Is it the same as your mom's? Is your family close to All Might? Cyclone really isn't his sidekick, right? Who's your dad? The information isn't put anywhere, but some people theorize--"
"Miku!" Elle yelled, charging at her daughter and wrapping her arms around her tightly. "I TOLD YOU TO BE CAREFUL! Oh my God, are you alright? What happened? DO YOU KNOW HOW SCARED I WAS? Oh, who are these?" Her facial expression changed from relieved to angry to surprised very quickly, as per usual.
"This is Bakugou, and this is Midoriya." Miku pointed to her new acquaintances as she introduced them. "They--"
"Oh, that's great, honey!" Elle interrupted. She turned away and all but sprinted away, yelling, "See you later!" as she darted into a nearby alley.
"Nori is transforming," her voice carried through the wind straight to Miku. "I gotta help him. Will you take those boys to their houses and then fly home? Yes, I mean fly, since walking obviously gets you hurt, danger magnet."
Miku's reply was instantaneous, quietly sending a message to her mom that reassured her that she was fine and she'd ensure the boys--and herself--would get home safely.
"That was strange," Midoriya said, eyeing where Elle had disappeared. "Hey, is it true that Cyclone's Quirk can--"
"Kid," a tired voice murmured from behind Miku. If she were any other person, she probably would've been startled, but her senses had picked up on the man a few seconds earlier.
She whirled around to face the tall yet exhausted frame of Shota Aizawa, aka Eraser Head, aka her father. He was slumped over more than usual--making him look even more stoned than he normally appeared to be--and he managed to glare at Midoriya even while he was putting eye drops into his eyes.
"D--Eraser!" Miku quickly corrected herself. "These two need to get home soon, though the routine checks should be performed first. I can--"
"Go with him." Shota nodded to Bakugou. "I'll take this kid here."
Without acknowledging his daughter's presence any longer, he grabbed Midoriya by the shoulder and began to lead him away, muttering undoubtedly harsh things under his breath. Miku could've sworn the poor teenager's green hair wilted like leaves as they walked away. If she hadn't known he deserved the lecture he was receiving, she would've felt bad for him. In all honesty, she did feel bad for him, despite the fact that he totally deserved the scolding because of his stupidly brave actions.
Miku turned back to Bakugou. "So, I gotta check to make sure you're not harmed enough to be taken to the hospital or anything."
"How would you know how to do that?" Bakugou scoffed. "And how the hell are you on friendly terms with all these heroes?"
"Probably because they're at my house every other week." Miku rolled her eyes. "And I've fought beside a lot of them. When I do fight villains, it's usually when on patrols with top heroes that villains know to stay away from, anyways, so only the stupidest ones are left. Or the strongest, but I can handle that. That or I do behind-the-scenes work, like damage control, so I'm not recognized often--" she paused, realizing she was getting off-track. "What I mean to say is--this wasn't my first fight."
Can't believe that I messed up so badly, though. I get that the combat I've trained for wasn't quite suited for people with their body type, but still. With the amount of heteromorphic Quirks out there, I need to be prepared for anything.
"Hey, mind if we ask you two some questions?" A man with a brown buzz cut shoved a microphone in Miku's face.
Reporters. Miku had to force her lips not to purse. Like her dad, she didn't enjoy the attention the press always gave to heroes. It made her a bit uncomfortable. She was just doing what she could to help those who weren't as fortunate as her. She didn't need all the fame--or hate, depending on the situation--that came with it.
"Of course." She smiled with her teeth at the man and his camerawoman. "Could you two just maybe wait a few minutes? We just need to go through the routine health checks."
"Oh, of course!" the reporter nodded. "Actually, I'd love to see the process! Maybe--"
Miku held a hand up to silence him. "Sorry, it's supposed to be private. We'll come back to talk later, though, okay?" Without waiting for his response, she took Bakugou's wrist and led him to a familiar blue car.
"Bitch, are you kidnapping me?" Bakugou's eyebrows furrowed. He yanked his hand away from hers the second she closed the door. "And stealing a car?"
"Nah, this is Eraser Head's car, and we're on great terms. He won't mind if we're in it," Miku explained while turning around and rummaging in the trunk for a First Aid kit. "Are you bleeding anywhere?"
"No."
"Is your vision worse than usual? Like, can you feel it fading?"
"No."
"Are you short of breath?"
"No."
"Are you panicking at all? Situations like these can seriously affect the mental health of--"
"This is dumb," Bakugou scoffed. "I'm fine."
And with that, he opened the door and got out of the car.
Hello! How are you all?
Word count: 4k
I apologize for anything in here that's worded weirdly. I really dislike writing fighting scenes because I'm not that good at it :/
Another question for y'all--who's your favourite character in MHA?
Mine is either Shoto or Hawks. They both have interesting backstories (hehe daddy issues) and get believable character development. I also simp for both of them so that probably affects my decision.
Anyways, I hope you all have a good day :)
