Chapter One: Deeper Down

"Come on, you're so slow!"

It was creeping closer, the sounds of heavy metal hitting the floor at a rapid pace. With every step the floor shook, and so did she. They were coming, they always came for her at this time. When the sun was nowhere to be found, unable to light the sky up with its warm rays and thus leaving the world around her in darkness. When the sky was draped in a blanket of black, sometimes with holes that the light could shine through that gave off the illusion of twinkling balls of light. When the world would seem to go quiet, almost come to a standstill as everything became silent, peaceful even.

"Quickly, check that door!" She ran over to the right door, tiny feet softly hitting the blue carpeted floor as she pushed forward. There was no time for hesitation, if she hesitated for even a second then it would all be over. Outside, she could hear the rapid steps becoming louder and louder, the force shaking pictures that hung on the wall. If only she could make out those pictures, but there was no time to be wasted on trying to remember. She managed to glance down the dark hallway, only to see a single red eye illuminating within the darkness. She couldn't make out what exactly this giant creature was, there was no time to do so. She quickly slammed the door shut, her heart beating rapidly in her ears. She was trembling as she pressed her back against the door, hearing the beast breathing just outside.

five seconds….ten….thirty…..one minute

She finally released her breath, hearing the beast's steps becoming fainter as it began leaving, soon the house was once again filled with silence. She was almost caught, if she had only been a few seconds slower than….who knows what could've happened. She didn't know, and she certainly didn't want to find out either. All she knew was to keep them out, just keep the darkness out until the light was able to shine through. With tired and tearful eyes, she glanced over to the flashing clock that stood besides the bed. 5:59, that's good. She had beat the game, once again she had outsmarted her terrifying foes. The girl jumped to her feet, her nightgown dropping down to her ankles as she made her way back over to the bed, smiling as her friend sat before her. Even after a long battle with monsters, she always managed to smile at the end of it all. A bittersweet victory wasn't it. As the clock struck 6, a sudden wave of drowsiness washed over the girl. Her vision began to blur as a blinding light flooded the once darkened room. Her body felt weightless, as if she was ascending from the very earth itself.

"Congratulations." She heard the familiar voice speak out to her, its soft tone providing comfort to her. The voice was feminine, that of a lady that she had yet to meet. Yet, somehow she wasn't afraid of this voice, the voice of the mysterious stranger brought her nothing but comfort and a sense of protection. Her eyes began to shut as her head slowly dropped into the cushioned sheets, a sudden need to sleep consuming her soul in an instant.

"That's…..my brave….little….."

"Bunny!" Hearing her name being yelled, the girl's eyes had finally managed to pry themselves open. Of course, they were quickly closed again as a bright light hung that directly over her head blinded her. God she hated waking up, it's always that same damn light that assaulted her eyes every single time.

"D...d-dad..dy" She softly stuttered out, one hand covering her sensitive orbs as the other was held up, as if she were reaching for something. Her request was seemingly answered, as she was lifted off her resting spot and wrapped in a loving grasp, head tucked into her caretaker's chest in order to shield her from the unwanted intruder. The two stayed like this for a few minutes, as Bunny's eyes slowly began to comfortably adjust to the light. Finally, she was comfortable enough to lift her head and look around the room at last as she rubbed the last bit of sleep out her eyes. "T-thank…" She paused, as if she had to stop and think of how to finish her sentence. "...Thank y-you Daddy." She finished, smiling proudly as she looked up at her father. The girl's father could only smile, his heart full at her progressive speech improvement. He was always proud of Bunny, always making new progress with every passing week. Compared to how she was when she was first found, she was a completely transformed child.

Oh, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Bunny is…well, he couldn't really call what happened an adoption. Adoption is a whole legal situation, and unfortunately her father wouldn't be able to qualify as a legal guardian for the girl without potentially being shot at. The reason for this was simple, her father wasn't human. Her father was a mangled mess of metal, a connection of wires and circuits that once resembled something that was perhaps meant to be human, now reduced to a living pile of what remained of that former creation. With one functioning eye that was a bright blue, and a face concealed by a painted white mask, the creature went by one name, Ennard. Anyone with even the slightest bit of sense wouldn't dare leave a child in the presence of this mangled creature, and yet here he was with Bunny. Honestly, he has no clue about the child's origins. Bunny, who had seemingly named herself, just showed up one day. Ennard had been left abandoned for God knows how long within this hidden underground labyrinth. After his retirement, he was seen as nothing more than a useless pile of scrap metal, and thus was reduced to his mangled form by his former creator. He hadn't seen a child in years, with no hope that he'd ever be seen by anyone ever again. That's when Bunny had stumbled into his life….

literally.

He had been resting up within one of the separated rooms when suddenly, a weight had been placed on top of him. Alarmed and defensive, Ennard quickly shot up and was ready to attack whomever it was that touched him. To his surprise, his surprise attacker turned out to be his now adopted daughter. Bunny was tiny, he doubted she was any older than a year old. She was a child with pale, yet brown skin with equally curly hair to confirm her suspected background. Her eyes were two different colors, with one being a beautiful dark brown that reminded the shattered animatronic of chocolate cakes. The other was a bright, yet dull tone of blue that reminded him of someone, yet he couldn't exactly confirm who. Her skin was also covered in patches of a lightened shade, as if she was developing the skin condition known as vitiligo. The girl was a beautiful child, but her condition worried him. Her hair was hanging down to her shoulders, heavily matted with dried mud and a dark fluid that seemed to be blood. Her face was badly bruised, with one of her teeth being chipped and tongue swollen with a chunk missing. Her clothes consisted of nothing but an oversized t-shirt with the mascots for the famous Freddy Fazbears. The shirt was dirty and faded, clearly having had seen better days. She needed help, and somehow….had made her way into this hidden establishment. She had nothing to give any sense of identity, no bags or papers that gave parental information. All she carried with her was an old and tattered plush Fredbear, and even that had no contact information. She was all alone with no sense of identity, she was a nobody.

As much as he tried not to, Ennard immediately was overcome with a formerly silenced maternal instinct. This was a child that had obviously not been shown love in so long, she needed protection and she needed help. She didn't run away when he approached, she didn't struggle when he picked her up, she just stood still and accepted it, instantly relaxing within his hold. She was taken to the former medical station, which was luckily still packed with antiseptics and emergency first aid kits. It was while he was treating her that Ennard realized she hadn't been abandoned, or at least that wasn't all to the story. Underneath all the matting, her head had a large gash that caused all the dried blood in her hair, severe enough that she needed some stitches to close the wound. He was shocked it wasn't infected, giving him the impression that this was a recent injury. Her feet were all dirty and covered in small cuts and gashes, potentially from walking through dirty streets or the woods. He even discovered what appeared to be stab wounds on the girl's body, as if someone really wanted the child dead. She had one on her lower back, almost hovering directly over her spine. Another was present on her left hand, the wound completely penetrating her palm. Some had seemed to be healing, as if she had had these wounds for quite some time. Honestly, Ennard couldn't process how this child was still alive, nevertheless surviving long enough that she was able to stumble upon this place. He also couldn't understand how she was so calm about it, how she had the most painful injuries and yet was able to smile at him through it all.

That was almost three years ago, now she was thriving under his care. Obviously, things were far from perfect with the child due to the extent of her injuries. Bunny hardly spoke more than a few words at a time, even though she was perfectly capable of doing so. She constantly stuttered, and struggled to remember simple sentences without needing to be guided often. Of course, she was getting better with every passing day because of how much Ennard pushed her to speak. He wished that she could tell him what happened to hee, how she got here, and so many questions he needed answers to. Unfortunately, Bunny shared no memories of her past. She couldn't remember her name, her parents, her home, she remembered nothing it seemed. She only responded to the name Bunny, that was it. Someday, he hoped to know the full story of this mysterious child that ended up in his care, but that day definitely wasn't coming anytime soon. Oh well, not like he was in a rush to find out. He enjoyed his time with his daughter, and she enjoyed her time with him.

"Are you hungry?" She nodded eagerly, body craving food. Ennard just shook his head, with how she was acting you'd assume he was starving her. It wasn't like she had eaten an entire bag of apples last night because she wanted apple juice yet didn't want her apples to not be whole. God was she a weird child, did she get this from her parents? "Well come on, we'll make something together."

It was time for them to start their day!
