a/n: lyla howlett, you will always have my entire heart.
long chapter ahead along with some surprises and basically the X-Men being one big family for an entire chapter.
"JEAN! WHERE ARE YOU!?"
"Aren't you suppose to be having breakfast? It's your wedding day and-" I interrupted Jean by dragging her to our old room and locked the door. "Oh, no! You're not bailing!"
"Shh! Dad's in the kitchen. He might hear you and take it seriously." I hissed and clasped a hand over her mouth. "I'm late... extremely late."
"Lyla, I have no clue what you're... wait..." Jean gasped and I nodded frantically. "How late?"
"Almost a full cycle. I thought it was due to the stress of everything, but I'm getting more overstimulated and... And I almost vomited Gambit's test gumbo the other day." I admitted and her eyes widened.
"But you love his gumbo! He perfected the recipe for today!"
"Stop screaming, for the love of Gambit's gumbo. This is serious!"
"Okay, okay... Storm is ironing your dress so I can't bother her. I can't leave because you're about to have a breakdown, so that leaves..."
"ROGUE, GET IN HERE!" We both yelled in unison and unlocked the door.
"What in the world is going on here?" Rogue asked as I pulled her inside and locked the door again.
"I need a pregnancy test. Someone please tell me the teenagers here are irresponsible and there's an unused test lying around here somewhere." I begged and her eyes widened.
"Give me ten minutes. In the meantime, drink some water."

"What's it say?"
"Positive... all ten of them." Ororo said and turned to me. "You and Scott are going to be parents, Lyla."
"Double-whammy." Rogue gasped and I nodded shakily. "Scott's gonna faint once you tell him!"
"Scott... What is he gonna say!?" I exclaimed and they all raised an eyebrow. "You know he likes to plan things! This wasn't planned!"
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" Jean rolled her eyes. "Lyla, he's loved you since the first time he touched your hand. I should know because he thought way too loud and it annoyed the hell outta me... Let him pass out first and then he'll be over the moon! I think first we have to worry about Logan freaking out."
"Oh, God..." I mumbled and turned to the toilet, immediately vomiting. "I completely forgot about my dad!"
"Logan's a big softie under all that bluster." Rogue tried to assure. "He'll grumble for a bit, but then he's gonna be hanging baby mobiles and carving toys. Mark my words."
"He's gonna kill my husband..."
"Scott's faced down Sentinels, Magneto, me as the Phoenix and Apocalypse. He can handle a grumpy father in law." Jean shrugged and I shook my head.
"Jean, this is the Wolverine we're talking about. He's been over-protective since the day I was born. It took him a while to come to terms that I'm getting married, imagine me telling him he's gonna be a grandpa!"
"His bark is worse than his bite. He'll go from overprotective dad to overprotective grandpa faster than we can blink."
"He might huff and puff but won't do anything serious." Ororo waved it off and helped me stand. "He'll melt once he hears the heartbeat, I just know it."
"He'll adjust, probably faster than any of us think."
"Just promise me the three of you are gonna be there when I break the news. Either as witnesses or a shield." I chuckled and they all hugged me.
"Oh, trust me, sugar. This will be the most united the team has ever been!" Rogue laughed. "We've all faced worse than a cranky Wolverine."
"So... I believe I have a wedding to get to?"
"Atta girl!"
。✯ \ | /✯ 。
"Oh, Claws! You look so pretty!"
"Scott's gonna pass out, wake up to the other news and then pass out again." Rogue laughed and adjusted my veil.
"What other news?" Dad asked and we all tensed. "You look beautiful, moonlight."
"We'll leave the two of you alone." Jean whispered and gave my arm a squeeze. "It'll be fine, Claws... He loves you."
"He might kill me."
"He won't." Ororo assured and lightly kissed my cheek. "We'll check on the groom and see if Kurt's here already."
"Alright, sugar. You're gonna be fine." Rogue smiled and they left, leaving me alone with Dad.
"What's going on, Lyla? Your heartbeat's through the roof." Dad raised an eyebrow and I sat on the bed, patting the spot next to me. "You're not nervous, are you? You've been planning this wedding ever since you were a kid and wore those plastic heels."
"It's not the wedding. Scott micromanaged everything last night while I was out with the girls... It's something else completely."
"What's going on, bub?"
"Daddy, I'm... I'm pregnant."
There was a long and heavy silence. Dad's eyes widened and his jaw clenched as I moved away slightly.
"You're what?" He asked, voice just above a whisper.
"Pregnant." I repeated. "Scott and I are gonna have a baby."
"Oh..." He mumbled and I nodded. "I guess that explains why I smelled something different these past few days... A baby?"
"Yeah, Dad. A baby."
"This wasn't planned?"
"Nope... I mean, we definitely want kids, but this wasn't planned at all."
"That's... a lot to process, Lyla." Dad said and scooted closer to me. "A baby and a wedding on the same day? You trying to kill your old man?"
"I swear this isn't how I planned it. It just happened and I found out about three hours ago." I defended and he sighed. "It's overwhelming, isn't it?"
"Very."
"Are you mad at me?"
"Why would I be mad, Lyla? I'm just... scared, I guess. For you, for the baby. You've grown up so fast and you're gonna start a family now. It's a lot for any dad to take in." He smiled and pulled me close to him. "But it's gonna be okay, moonlight. Everything's gonna be okay."
"I don't feel ready yet... I want it, but I don't feel ready."
"You're never ready, kid. But you're gonna do great... You've got Scott who, and I hate to admit it, is gonna be a decent dad, and you've got all of us... You especially have me. You're not alone in this."
"I don't know how to tell him, Dad. He's been so focused on everything that's been going on with the Avengers, and now this..."
"If he's half the man I think he is, he's gonna be thrilled. He worships the ground you walk on, y'know that?"
"You know he likes to plan everything and we didn't plan this." I sighed and Dad scoffed.
"Let him panic for a moment and possibly pass out first. Once he gets his head on straight, he'll be ecstatic... He's gonna do everything he can to be the best father he can be."
"But I have no idea what I'm doing."
"And you think I had it all figured out when you came along? And what about when it was just the two of us? You were so little, so fragile and innocent and pure. I went to bed terrified that something was gonna happen and you were gonna be taken from me... But every time you smiled, it all went away."
"Dad..."
"Point is, if I managed to raise you despite who I am and all the baggage I carry... You're gonna be just fine, kiddo."
"Alright everyone, showtime! I've got a paranoid groom about to grab a clipboard!" Jean called out and I laughed. "Scott, step away from Rogue's list before I make you act like a duck for the next ten years!"
"You really wanna marry that?" Dad asked with a smile and I nudged his side.
"He's the father of your grandchild. Get used to it."
"God help us all."
"Can you do me a favor before I head out?" I asked. "Can you bring Gambit and Kurt if he's here already? I want to tell them."
"You sure?"
"I am."
"Then I'll drag them upstairs."
。✯ \ | /✯ 。
"Ma petit, you look ravishing!"
"How's Scott?"
"Pacin' like a caged tiger down there!" Gambit smirked and hugged me tight. "Mumbling to himself about emergency vows and fixing his collar for the tenth time. Before we came up, Storm and chere were dragging him away from a mirror."
"But he is ready." Kurt assured and gave my hand a squeeze. "You know how he is, Lyla... He'll calm down once he sees you."
"Thank you, boys." I smiled and stepped back. "Before we head down there, I want you both to know something..."
"Cold feet, petit?"
"I'm pregnant... I found out this morning."
Both Gambit and Kurt froze, their expressions quickly changing from surprise to pure joy.
"That's incredible, Ravager!" Gambit exclaimed and picked me up before spinning me. "A double celebration today, huh? Scott's gonna be over the moon... once we pick him up from the floor, that is."
"My sweet Lyla, this is such a blessing!" Kurt joined in on the hug and I smiled big. "You will both make such wonderful parents!"
"Does the Wolverine know?"
"Yeah... and he's surprisingly happy. Well, as happy as he could be after dropping this bomb while he's still trying to process that I'm getting married." I chuckled. "But I know he's excited. He's just gotta process it first and maybe make Scott pee his pants."
"That poor soul is in for the ride of his life!" Gambit laughed. "You're gonna rock his world, aren't you? First the wedding and now this? He won't know what hit him!"
"All I ask is that if he does faint, don't let him hit his head. One brain injury and threats of a lobotomy is more than enough."
"Hey, that lobotomy worked wonders for me!"
"This is Scott we're talking about, Remy."
"Good point... We'll watch his head."
"Thanks, Gambito."
。✯ \ | /✯ 。
"Okay, we have an anxious groom on the altar with Kurt dressed as a priest, bridesmaid, maid of honor and best man are lined up, Logan is processing that he's gonna be a grandpa in nine months... And someone please stop me before I turn into Scott!"
"Jean, it's fine!" I laughed and stopped her from pacing around. "You're turning into Scott and one of him is bad enough."
"He's a bad influence." Jean sighed and linked arms with Gambit. "If I see him mumbling his vows, so help me God!"
"Oh, just calm down before you pop a blood vessel." Rogue scolded before walking down, followed by Ororo and finally Jean and Gambit.
"Last chance to bail." Dad smirked and I elbowed his side. "I'm kidding... partially."
"You're absolutely impossible." I rolled my eyes and linked arms with him. "Think I'm gonna be a decent wife?"
"Forget about you, he better be a decent husband and father if he values breathing."
"Funny."
"I wasn't joking, moonlight."
"Alright, alright, before I lose my nerves and my claws come out." I said and took a deep breath. "Let's go before Scott calls a rescue mission because I'm not down there."
"He didn't plan this shit. How is he still micromanaging everything!?"
"Wouldn't be Scott Summers without it." I chuckled and started to walk down.
"Oh, he looks like he's about to pass out."
"Don't be insensitive, Daddy." I hissed once we reached the end and Scott outstretched his hand for me.
"Take good care of her, Summers. You're holding my entire world right there." Dad warned but there was a small smile on his face as he took his seat next to Charles who was smiling wide.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Lyla Howlett and Scott Summers, two souls who have found their way through trials, triumphs and unexpected surprises." Kurt started and glanced at us with pride. "Today not only marks a new chapter, but the start of a new adventure... My two dearest friends, it truly is a blessing to see just how far the two of you have gotten together."
"I love you." Scott mouthed.
"I love you too."
"In the spirit of surprises, they both have decided to write their own vows for each other. Scott, you may begin whenever you are ready."
"Lyla, from the moment I first touched your hand, I had no idea that my life would change forever. It wasn't just your hands or the sweet and kind voice that followed, it was as if something in me knew that you were the one I was waiting for. At first I didn't want to come here, thought that everyone would see me as a freak until Alex convinced me. He said that coming here was going to change my life... little did he know just how right he was." Scott chuckled and gave my hand a squeeze. "You are my every dream come true, and I can't wait for the reality we get to build together. I vow to always protect you from harm, to stand with you against your troubles, and to look to you when I need protection."
"Oh, damn him." Jean whispered and sniffled as Scott continued.
"With you, Lyla, I've found a partner, a confidante like no other. With every moment, I realize I'm luckier than I could ever deserve... You're not just my love, you're my anchor, my home... I vow to be your partner in all things, to laugh with you in joy, to hold you when you cry, and to fight alongside you whatever comes our way. I vow to build a life that's as fearless and full as the love we share... I love you more than I can ever express, and I am so proud to be yours. So here, in front of our family, I pledge that no matter what the future holds, you won't ever face it alone. Because from this day forward, I am yours, and you, my love, are mine."
"Lyla... whenever you are ready." Kurt smiled and wiped his tears.
"Scott, from the moment I met you, you've seen me in ways no one else ever has... You were the only one who was never scared of me and could really see me, not just my claws. You loved me not in spite of all my flaws, but because of them. With you I found something I never knew could exist for me... A person who allowed me to fully be myself, a home where I feel safe. You've loved me fiercely, fought for me when I couldn't fight for myself, and because of you, I learned what it means to be unconditionally loved."
"Damn her too." Rogue sniffled and I chuckled.
"I promise to give you the same fierce love in return. I vow to stand by you through every storm, to laugh in moments of joy and hold you when the world seems heavy... You've shown me that love is raw, real and unbreakable. You make me feel seen, and understood me in ways that I thought impossible. Because of you, Scott, I have become the person I always dreamed I could be... From this day forward, my heart belongs to you, and only you. I promise to honor and cherish you, to stand beside you in every battle, and celebrate every joy. Scott, you are my love, my anchor, my home and I am so incredibly lucky to be yours... Today isn't just the beginning of our life together as husband and wife... it's also the beginning of another incredible journey."
"Wait, wait, wait!" Jean exclaimed as Gambit removed Scott's glasses and I turned to see her holding her temple. "My wedding gift to you both. You're welcome."
"Thank you." Scott whispered and I smiled, placing a hand over his eyes.
"Scott... You're going to be a father." I said, removing my hand to see his eyes widening. "I found out this morning."
"A father?" He asked and I nodded frantically. "This is..."
"Not planned?"
"Amazing." He smiled and hugged me tight. "Everything I dreamed of and more."
"Well..." Kurt cleared his throat and moved to the side with a big smile and wiped his tears. "It seems your vows have doubled in meaning today-"
"Kurt, say the thing so I can kiss my wife while I can still see her!"
"It is time for both of you to seal your vows. Scott, Lyla, with the promises you've made and the bond you share... I now pronounce you husband and wife."
Scott almost immediately pulled me into a kiss, dipping me in the process making everyone cheer, Gambit and Jean being the loudest of them all.
"Frankly, I thought you were gonna pass out." I laughed and Scott rolled his eyes.
"I think I still might." He smirked and kissed me again.
"Not on our wedding day, Mr. Summers." I teased as he pulled me back up.
"Wouldn't dream of it, Mrs. Summers."

~Logan's POV~
"What's with the frown, sugar?"
"Didn't think I'd be giving her away so soon. Didn't think I'd be a grandfather so soon either."
"Didn't peg you as the sentimental type, Logan." Rogue smirked and handed me a drink as we both watched Scott and Lyla talking in a corner with huge smiles on their faces. "Scott's a good man and he'll be a great dad."
"He better be the man I never could be for her." I hummed and she raised an eyebrow. "I always thought that hiding her from the world was gonna keep her safe... As long as no one knew she was a mutant until she could defend herself properly. But she got dragged down with me."
"Logan-"
"I did everything I could and it wasn't enough, Rogue."
"You did everything you knew how to do given the circumstances. No one's perfect, Logan." Jean added and stood next to me. "Lyla always talks about the happy memories she had with you, from the ballet recitals to the toys you used to make from the spare wood you always found... She thrived because of you, Logan. You're actually a better father than you make yourself out to be."
"She still deserved better than what I gave her."
"You gave her a chance."
"That wasn't what she needed. I wanted to protect her from the world, and it came after her anyways." I defended and Scott glanced at us just as Gambit dragged Lyla for a dance and walked towards us.
"Logan... Mind if I have a word with you for a sec?" He asked and I raised an eyebrow just as Jean and Rogue practically ran in different directions.
"Floor's all yours, Summers."
"I know you absolutely hate my guts and it might not be the right time but I wanted to say... thank you."
"Thank you? For dragging your ass for almost a year?"
"For trusting me with her." He corrected and adjusted his glasses. "I'll probably never be able to protect her as well as you have, but I'll try my best."
"You'll try your best?" I repeated. "That all you've got to offer?"
"I'll never match everything you've done for her, but I love her... Way more than I can put into words. All I've got to offer is that I'll do everything in my power to give her the life she deserves, safe and happy."
"You better. Because if you screw this up even just a little bit, there's nowhere in the universe you can hide from me... She's all I got and it's my job as her dad to make sure she's safe."
"Understood." Scott nodded with a small frown and turned to walk away but I grabbed his arm.
"You think you know what love is now? Just wait until that kid shows up. It'll wreck you in the best way possible and scare the hell outta you. It's gonna be your job as the man of the house to hold it together for her... For both of them."
"I'm ready for that responsibility, Logan... It's all I've ever wanted."
"Alright, Summers." I sighed, crossing my arms. "You've got my blessing. Not that you need it, but you've got it... Just don't screw this up and don't make me regret it."
"Thank you, Logan." Scott grinned and I nodded, reaching out to shake his hand.
"If Gambit spins me one more time, I'm gonna vomit!" Lyla exclaimed, making her way towards us. Scott immediately wrapped an arm around her and placed a hand on her stomach. "You weren't threatening him again, right? Because you promise you wouldn't!"
"Gotta keep him on his toes, moonlight." I smirked and she rolled her eyes. "But we found common ground... for now."
"That's never good." She laughed before grabbing my arm and dragged me to the dance floor. "And you owe me a dance, Daddy."
"I don't dance anymore, moonlight."
"Mm, you do now." Lyla hummed, taking off her shoes to step on my own. "Like old times, right?"
"You've grown up too fast, y'know that?" I chuckled as she rested her head on my chest. "Still feels like it was yesterday that you were holding onto my pinky to even cross the street."
"I'm still your little girl, Dad. Always will be."
"Even when you're about to be a mom?"
"Even then." She looked up at me with a huge grin.
From behind those glowing eyes, and just for a moment, I could see the little girl she used to be.
My moonlight.
"You're gonna be just fine, kid." I muttered, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "And I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."
"You better not. Believe it or not, I still need you."
"You've got me, Lyla. You always will."

~Lyla's POV~
"You're awfully quiet over there."
"Just admiring." Scott hummed, sitting on the bed and I rolled my eyes. "Can't a man admire his wife?"
"That's gonna take some time to get used to." I smiled, turning around and glanced at his ring. "Though I do feel like I have to apologize that I can't wear a ring."
"Then it's a good thing I thought ahead and got you a charm for your necklace."
"And with my favorite stone too, extra points for that."
"Well, I figured that if you can't wear rings, I'd give you something you'd always carry." He smiled and pulled me to sit in his lap. "Your dad finally gave his approval."
"Big bad Wolverine finally caved? You're kidding!?"
"Y'know, I think I wish I was because it felt weird not having him threaten me every ten minutes."
"Without grunting?"
"There was pain in his eyes, but that was it."
"He's excited about everything. He just has a hard time showing it." I waved it off and loosened his tie. "If he gave you his blessing, it's because he cares and he trusts you with me... and now our baby."
"Our baby." Scott repeated and placed a hand on my stomach with a smile. "It still feels like a dream, y'know? This whole day feels like a dream."
"I'm telling you, it's been a huge relief for me to see you this excited." I chuckled and he tilted his head. "Oh, don't give me that look. You're always planning everything and this was the most unplanned thing we've ever done!"
"Just because it wasn't planned, doesn't mean I would be mad or upset, Lyla." He said and I nodded. "It was a shock and it freaked me out a bit. But not in the way you think... I just don't want to let you down, especially with something as big as this."
"You haven't let me down seven and a half years ago and you're certainly not going to start now... I honestly think we're doing pretty good for two people who never saw this coming."
"I just don't know how we're going to balance being X-Men with a baby on the way."
"We'll figure it out, we always do." I assured and kissed him. "Now can I please spend some time with my husband who I love dearly? A moment where it's just us?"
"I like the sound of that, Mrs. Summers."
"So do I, Mr. Summers."
