"Hey, sweetheart," a voice spoke softly to me. "Time to wake up."

The sun's rays barely snuck through my window, but where it did, it happened to be right in my eyes. I squinted them open to see my mom, fully awake and ready for the day. "Why do I have to get up?" I whined. "It's only," I looked to my alarm clock. "Eleven a.m."

"Yeah exactly, Rosie," she chuckled. "And I need you to watch your brother. I have a job interview down at the hospital. They said they could fit my interview in if I could be there in twenty."

"Oh, I see," I looked down at my bed. "Yeah I'll watch him."

"Thank you sweetheart," she kissed my head.

As she was leaving my room she turned back to face me. "Why not you go and explore the town? Your bike and skates are in the garage. And I think it would be good for Luke to get out and adventure."

"Yeah it would," I turned to peer out the window.

The sun was high in the sky and there wasn't a cloud in sight. "Maybe I could invite Essie to come with me," I smiled.

"There's the spirit," she smiled and tucked a piece of my loose hair behind my ear.

I chuckled lightly. She looked down at her wrist. "Ooh! I gotta go, honey. I'll be back in a couple. Be safe."

"You too!" I shouted as she ran out of the house.

'Maybe biking around might be fun,' I thought to myself.

I got up and out of bed to start getting ready for the day. I took a much overdue shower and wrapped it in a towel afterwards to let it air dry. I glanced in my dresser for an outfit and came across a NASA shirt my grandpa bought after the first moon landing in '69. I got dressed into said shirt and then retrieved some jeans that I thought would suit the outfit. I took my hair down and scrunched it in the towel one final time before I let the cold mop lay on my shoulders.

I sat on the foot of my bed and slipped on a pair of socks and my Samoa's that I had gotten for Christmas last year. I always tried to keep shoes in their best condition, and these were no exception to my rule, especially since my mom paid a pretty penny for them.

I then collected a small bag to have with me to hold money or anything I bought while out. As I was collecting my wallet I heard footsteps trailing into my room. "Hey Rosalyn?" I heard the familiar voice of Lucas ring out.

"Yeah? What is it buddy?" I met his face with a soft grin.

"Uh, I know mom wanted you to hang out with me today, but you can go do your own thing 'cause Griffin invited me over today to read comics and play on his Atari if that's alright with you?"

"Oh," was all I could say.

I quickly hid my disappointment with a smile. "That's fine! You two go have fun. I can go around town by myself. No biggie."

His face stretched into a toothy grin. "Thank you, Lynn! I'll see you later, bye!" he hollered as he ran down the stairs, backpack in hand.

That left me alone. I sighed and grabbed my Walkman, inserting my favorite mixtape. I decided to not rewind on it since I knew what the next song was after the current one. It was my favorite of this album so I let it play on as I walked out the garage door to my bike.

I pulled open the garage and kicked the stand of my bike in. After getting on it, I slowly pedaled down the driveway, Fame by David Bowie could be heard radiating off my headphones. I remember my mom mentioned that there was a small park down the road if I maybe wanted to take Griffin and Luke there sometime, but I guess it's just me this time.

I passed some families who smiled and waved at me as I went. 'I'm so glad people here are friendly,' I thought to myself. I continued to bike down to the park uninterrupted.

As it came into view, I realized that the baseball fields were attached to it. I quickly went to check if anyone was there. No one was in sight. "Thank God," I thought out loud.

I got off my bike and put it in the bike rack. My steps fell into the beat of Rocket Man as it began playing. I walked the entire loop of the area once before I noticed that I wasn't alone.

I stood facing the baseball fields as I watched a makeshift rocket fly into the air. I was flabbergasted by it and decided to find its source.

I jogged over to the field's metal fence and looked over it, removing my headphones in the process. There, stood a boy, probably around my age, with light brown hair wearing a navy blur shirt and jeans. He was gazing up into the sky, smiling.

As the rocket was falling back to the ground, the wind pushed it away from him and it started diving in my direction. I was too busy staring at it to notice how fast it was coming at me. It came closer and closer, until, it nailed me in the side. I stumbled backwards from the force and caught myself on the ground.

The boy quickly ran to the gate at the front of the field and around to where I was. "Oh my God, I am so sorry," he apologized.

"It's fine," I affirmed.

Where the rocket had hit on my side slightly hurt but not too bad to bleed, just enough to leave a giant bruise. The boy outstretched his arm to hoist me up. I accepted his hand and he helped me up. "Thanks," I smiled, dusting myself off.

"I-I'm still sorry, just so you know, tha-that was not intended to happen at all," he stuttered on a couple words.

I laughed a bit. "No, yeah, I know. I'd hope you aren't trying to hurt strangers," I responded.

He chuckled. "Yeah," he scratched the back of his head.

We stood in an awkward silence for a couple seconds till he broke it. "Uh, I really like your shirt."

I looked down at it. "Thank you! My grandpa got it for me after Apollo Eleven. He works at NASA," I said.

"Really? Wow. That's so cool," he awed. "I've always wanted to go there. He's very lucky to be able to work there. He's living my dream."

"You like astronomy too?" I asked.

The boy and I had gone and retrieved our bikes. We decided to ride home together because it was almost lunchtime and he invited me over. Along the way, we talked about rockets and spaceships. I felt like a total nerd, but it was so natural.

As we approached his house, I realized that he was my neighbor on the opposite side of the Stanley's. "Hey, we're neighbors!" I grinned and pointed to my house.

"For real?" he looked over at my house. "Oh so you're the new girl?"

"Yep, that's me," I replied.

The two of us began to walk up the pathway to his house. "Uh, I never caught your name," he spoke up.

"Oh yeah, sorry. It's Rosalyn," I answered.

"That's a pretty name," he smiled at me.

I felt my face heat up. "Thanks. What's yours?"

"Finn, or as my sister calls me-"

"Finney! Where have you been?"

The door had flown open and a girl with two braids was standing in the opening with her arms crossed. "Uh, I was at the fields," he mumbled.

"Whatever," she rolled her eyes.

She turned her attention to me. "Hi! I'm Gwen Blake," she put out her hand for a greeting, grinning ear to ear.

"Nice to meet you, Gwen. I'm Rosalyn," I said, the corners of my mouth forming into a smile.

She released my hand and turned back to Finn, her expression dropping. "You can't just leave Finney without telling me! I was worried about you," she sternly said.

"Geez, Gwen, I'm fifteen. You don't have to babysit me," Finn's arms folded over each other. "And can we come in? I'm hungry and so is Rose."

"Yeah I guess," she moved out of the doorway so we could enter. "And I'm not babysitting. You just can't leave your twelve year old sister home alone while dad's out."

"I didn't know he left," Finn admitted as we all walked into the house.

Gwen shut the door behind us and led us to the kitchen. There, she had made chicken noodle soup. "God, I'm hungry!" Finn exclaimed

"Hey! Don't use that language," Gwen snapped. "The Lord is always around us."

Finn gave the most startled expression I've ever seen before. "And, I need him for my dreams."

My head cocked to the side in question. Finn noticed as he handed me a bowl of soup. "She has these... dreams, I guess, that can tell the future or something."

"They're prophetic," she corrected. "I've been able to use them before for many things. Like I've been able to see if I have passed tests or not or if a person will get hurt or not."

"Dang," I said, swallowing my bite of the soup.

"Yeah," she nodded.

We all soon finished eating and Gwen and Finn talked to me about the town and what it was like there. "Hey, Rose? There's something you should know about here," Finn began.

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

Gwen gave Finn a 'look' and the whole mood had just shifted in the living room. "There's been these... incidents," Finney commented. "Kids, have gone missing."

My stomach dropped. "Don't worry, though," Gwen rested her hand on my shoulder.

She hit Finn's arm. "They haven't been confirmed yet, because, last time it was just some kid who legitimately ran away," she comfortingly rubbed my shoulder.

"Oh," I breathed out.

"Way to ruin the mood, Finn," Gwen smacked the back of his head.

"Ow!" his hand made its way to the back of his head to cradle where she hit.

I chuckled. "There's nothing to worry about. Trust me," Gwen assured.
